0:00:15 > 0:00:16Our top stories tonight.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18The group representing manufacturers here says there's been a significant

0:00:18 > 0:00:20drop in confidence since last months' Brexit vote.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Cardiff brothel owner, Diana Jones, is in prison after seven years

0:00:23 > 0:00:24on the run in Cyprus.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41Good evening.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44A month since the vote to leave the European Union -

0:00:44 > 0:00:50manufacturers here say they've seen a significant drop in confidence.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51EEF, the organisation which represents the sector,

0:00:51 > 0:00:54has told this programme it's concerned Brexit may

0:00:54 > 0:00:59affect growth in Wales.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02It comes as Ford, which employs hundreds of workers in Bridgend,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03has reported a fall in profits.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Here's our Business Correspondent, Brian Meechan.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09M make conveyor belts for businesses from food

0:01:09 > 0:01:12factories to airports.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15It employs 26 people at its Tredegar base.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Its boss was in favour of leaving the EU and he says far from Brexit

0:01:18 > 0:01:20reducing confidence, he is investing in his factory

0:01:20 > 0:01:23and taking on new staff.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26There is a world out there besides Europe and Europe

0:01:26 > 0:01:31still needs us as a customer.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35If they want us as a customer, they have got to be able to allow us

0:01:35 > 0:01:36to sell our goods to them.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39All this argument that we will lose out, that they will stop selling

0:01:39 > 0:01:44to us, put tariffs up, it is a two-way street.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46In my opinion, we have done the right thing.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49A lot of people will disagree.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53We have had the vote, my argument is to get on with it.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56But representatives of manufacturers in Wales say Brexit is making

0:01:56 > 0:01:58companies think twice about investing in property,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01machines and staff.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03I think they are concerned about all the uncertainty.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06We have seen the uncertainty around steel and the future of steel

0:02:06 > 0:02:08manufacturing in Wales and there is also uncertainty

0:02:08 > 0:02:10about our access to the single market, so there is

0:02:10 > 0:02:13a lot of uncertainty.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14Do I invest here?

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Do I move my facilities offshore?

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Do I reassure some of my supply chain?

0:02:20 > 0:02:22All of that is in the mix with regard to the uncertainty

0:02:22 > 0:02:23businesses are facing right now.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26The EEF's warning that investment in manufacturing is being put

0:02:26 > 0:02:30on hold is also being heard from other sectors of the economy.

0:02:30 > 0:02:37It's clear that the UK is leaving the European Union.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39What is unclear is what our trading relationships will be

0:02:39 > 0:02:44like with Europe and the rest of the world after Brexit.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Manufacturing is a significant part of the Welsh economy,

0:02:46 > 0:02:50accounting for 18% of the country's output.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53In terms of the UK, it makes up only 6% of output.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56It has also been a growing area.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58The number of jobs in the sector increased by 17%

0:02:58 > 0:03:03between 2010 and 2016.

0:03:03 > 0:03:12Ford is one of the biggest manufacturers in Wales.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14It has just invested ?180 million in its Bridgend plant,

0:03:14 > 0:03:15securing hundreds of jobs.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18There are concerns the new facility only allows it to make a third

0:03:18 > 0:03:21of the number of engines it currently produces and other work

0:03:21 > 0:03:23at the site is coming to an end.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Ford says it has to consider all its options following

0:03:25 > 0:03:28the decision to leave the EU.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31As we think about the magnitude of the impact, we are going to have

0:03:31 > 0:03:35to look at all parts of the business to make sure we stay on track

0:03:35 > 0:03:38with our 6% to 8% operating margins that we need to deliver.

0:03:38 > 0:03:43How manufacturing manages Brexit will have a major impact on how well

0:03:43 > 0:03:47the Welsh economy as a whole deals with it.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51The UK Government has been asked to give urgent clarification that

0:03:51 > 0:03:54a delay in the new Hinkley Point nuclear power station

0:03:54 > 0:03:56in Somerset won't impact the proposed Wylfa Newydd

0:03:56 > 0:03:58development on Anglesey.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01UK ministers say they'll decide in September whether or not to go

0:04:01 > 0:04:03ahead with Hinkley Point.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06The Welsh Government says its important the delay doesn't

0:04:06 > 0:04:11damage the confidence of investors here.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Research has shown that young people from poorer backgrounds in Wales

0:04:14 > 0:04:17are almost three times less likely to go to University than students

0:04:17 > 0:04:21from more affluent areas.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23It has prompted claims by the Sutton Trust educational

0:04:23 > 0:04:26charity that there's still a 'deep divide' in higher education

0:04:26 > 0:04:32which means Wales is missing out on a huge amount of talent.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Police say they still hope to reclaim nearly ?4 million owed

0:04:35 > 0:04:38by a former brothel-owner, who was jailed in May after being

0:04:38 > 0:04:42on the run for seven years.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45When Diana Jones fled to Cyprus in 2008 she became one

0:04:45 > 0:04:49of the biggest targets for officers looking to seize assets.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53Jenny Rees reports.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55The brothel boss in hiding.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59For the last seven years, Diana Jones has been

0:04:59 > 0:05:03living in northern Cyprus, on the run from police.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06The BBC's Week In Week Out programme filmed her in 2008

0:05:06 > 0:05:08as she was sentenced for running a multi-million pound vice ring.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11The following year she was ordered to pay ?2.6 million and given

0:05:11 > 0:05:15a 12-month suspended sentence.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17By then, she'd already fled the country.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20She's now in prison in Staffordshire, arrested

0:05:20 > 0:05:23when she arrived back in the UK, and serving a four-year sentence

0:05:23 > 0:05:27for failing to pay her confiscation order.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30The team charged with recovering that money say that, with interest,

0:05:30 > 0:05:35the total now stands at more than ?3.7 million.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38If the order is not met, it will stay with her for life.

0:05:38 > 0:05:43The confiscation enforcement team will monitor, review and carry out

0:05:43 > 0:05:49investigations on a fairly regular basis to ascertain whether she

0:05:49 > 0:05:52actually has any assets and at that point we'll seek permission

0:05:52 > 0:05:54from the court and get those assets removed from her.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56So you will never stop chasing her?

0:05:56 > 0:05:57No.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00She is one of our upper-end cases.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03She is one of the top four or five investigations we have

0:06:03 > 0:06:05currently ongoing.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07Police said Diana Jones' brothels turned over nearly

0:06:07 > 0:06:10?3 million in six years - a sum that funded her double life

0:06:10 > 0:06:14in the Carmarthenshire countryside.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16Investigators also believe it allowed her a lavish

0:06:16 > 0:06:19lifestyle in northern Cyprus, where there's no formal extradition

0:06:19 > 0:06:23agreement with the UK.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25They'll now visit her at her new home in prison to establish

0:06:25 > 0:06:30what, if anything, she can pay back.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33An 86-year-old man who was hit by a train in Cardiff yesterday

0:06:35 > 0:06:36murder of his wife.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40Angus Mayer was struck by a train at Cardiff Central station.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00Pontardawe in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11before returning to help her mother and three-year-old brother, Riley.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Her four-year-old brother, Jack, died at the scene in Alltwen.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16There's a week to go until the opening ceremony

0:07:32 > 0:07:36to have inspired more girls to take-up the sport.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39I've seen the difference just from London, how many girls have got

0:07:39 > 0:07:42into tae kwon do because they've watched it on TV.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45When I started tae kwon do, I think there was only about 4 or 5

0:07:45 > 0:07:50girls in the whole club, whereas now, it is similar,

0:07:50 > 0:07:55there is loads more girls and it is just amazing to see that.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03It has felt a bit muggy today but will turn pleasant

0:08:03 > 0:08:04everywhere over the weekend.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07That means some coolish nights for the time of year.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10Some sunshine and also one or two showers, but a lot of dry weather.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13For tonight, it is a dry story.

0:08:13 > 0:08:18Cloud broken, that means the cooler and fresh and night than recently.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Temperatures in some rural spots dropping as low as eight Celsius,

0:08:21 > 0:08:24maybe a little bit of mist in some places by dawn.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27Tomorrow morning, a dry start, some sunshine and quite pleasant.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Cloud will build as temperatures rise, maybe the odd shower

0:08:30 > 0:08:33in the west later in the morning.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36Across the rest of the UK, a mixture of cloud, sunny spells

0:08:36 > 0:08:38and scattered showers tomorrow.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40One or two heavy showers in places.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Having said that, parts of the Midlands, Southern

0:09:04 > 0:09:08Highs of 21 Celsius in Newport, 17 Celsius on the north

0:09:08 > 0:09:11and west coast with a light to moderate breeze.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13Most showers will clear away tomorrow evening,

0:09:13 > 0:09:15just the odd one overnight.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Otherwise, a dry night and a cool night, as well,

0:09:17 > 0:09:19especially in the countryside.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22More dry weather to come on Sunday, with some sunshine.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24Some cloud, as well, with just one or two

0:09:24 > 0:09:28showers, but again, a lot of places will remain dry.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31If you are heading to the National Eisteddfod in Abergavenny,

0:09:31 > 0:09:34most of the time it will be dry, although I wouldn't rule out

0:09:34 > 0:09:36a shower in the afternoon.

0:09:36 > 0:09:41Temperatures around 19-20dC, so pleasant for walking around.
