:05:48. > :05:51.Ever since, this family business has bought and sold locally.
:05:52. > :05:54.We are using other local suppliers, buying local sausages and smoking
:05:55. > :05:57.them, we are going to the two villages away and having our
:05:58. > :06:05.preserves made, going to a town away and buying crackers.
:06:06. > :06:11.So, absolutely, we are genuinely interacting business
:06:12. > :06:18.Ryan is one of five local employees - the doubles
:06:19. > :06:26.Trimming the edges down, then I slice it into a D shape.
:06:27. > :06:30.The busy centre of Crickhowell looks like the perfect postcard,
:06:31. > :06:33.but many other Welsh market towns have died as big towns and cities
:06:34. > :06:36.have taken over as places to work and shop.
:06:37. > :06:40.Many here argue it is by working together that it has survived.
:06:41. > :06:44.The argument is that if every adult in this area spend ?5 in these shops
:06:45. > :06:48.every week rather than in chains and supermarkets, it
:06:49. > :06:53.would put ?1.4 million into this local economy.
:06:54. > :06:58.Here over the hill, it is not as easy as in Crickhowell.
:06:59. > :07:02.Here, a high proportion of people commute for work and they are
:07:03. > :07:05.more likely to spend money there than here.
:07:06. > :07:08.The suggestion from the Bevan Foundation of trying to grow local
:07:09. > :07:11.organisations and businesses is in sharp contrast to policies
:07:12. > :07:15.of building business parks and communities and trying to get
:07:16. > :07:20.Doctor Mark Lang has been studying ways of getting money into local
:07:21. > :07:27.communities where traditional industry has gone.
:07:28. > :07:29.Poor communities still have people living in them who have skills
:07:30. > :07:31.and passion for the future of their communities.
:07:32. > :07:34.It doesn't have to be in wealthy communities that this happens.
:07:35. > :07:37.The argument is that if people work in their own communities,
:07:38. > :07:40.they will spend more of their wages there,
:07:41. > :07:44.This proposal is an attempt to encourage more jobs
