:00:00. > :00:00.world record in the 100m breaststroke. That is all

:00:00. > :00:10.Tonight's headlines: It's more than 24 hours since two teenage boys

:00:11. > :00:12.from Birmingham were swept out to sea off Barmouth beach.

:00:13. > :00:18.Tonight their families and friends wait for news.

:00:19. > :00:21.The search resumed here just over an hour ago.

:00:22. > :00:44.The moment Jazz Carlin earned a place in Welsh history.

:00:45. > :00:47.The first woman from Wales to get a medal

:00:48. > :01:01.Four years ago I was watching on the sidelines wishing I was part of the

:01:02. > :01:07.Olympics and now I have won a silver medal. I am over the moon.

:01:08. > :01:10.He doesn't want to give up his job in Cardiff Bay or Brussels.

:01:11. > :01:12.Tonight UKIP's top brass are deciding if that means

:01:13. > :01:14.Nathan Gill is kicked out of the party.

:01:15. > :01:16.And nobody wants parliamentary punch ups in the Senedd but one

:01:17. > :01:19.new Assembly Member says it needs a shake-up as debates

:01:20. > :01:31.In the last hour, rescue teams have resumed their search for two teenage

:01:32. > :01:33.boys, who've now been missing off the Gwynedd coast for more

:01:34. > :01:38.The boys, aged 14 and 15, got into difficulty

:01:39. > :01:42.in the water at Barmouth beach early yesterday afternoon.

:01:43. > :01:44.That sparked a major search operation, involving

:01:45. > :01:48.a rescue helicopter, five coastguard teams

:01:49. > :01:52.Our reporter, Matthew Murray, has been following events

:01:53. > :02:03.in Barmouth all day and has the very latest for us now.

:02:04. > :02:10.The search has got under this evening in the past half an hour and

:02:11. > :02:17.I have been told by the coastguard it will not involve boats. It will

:02:18. > :02:26.be a search of the beach by foot and also on four by four vehicles. The

:02:27. > :02:31.searches for the first -- the two teenage boys who went missing nearly

:02:32. > :02:35.30 hours ago. Barmouth beach in August in the sunshine is usually

:02:36. > :02:39.packed. There were only a half -- a handful of people in the water today

:02:40. > :02:43.after two teenage boys went missing in the sea yesterday. They were part

:02:44. > :02:49.of a large group of several hundreds from the Somali community in

:02:50. > :02:58.learning here on it day trip. But he planned a fun day was short lived.

:02:59. > :03:04.We tried to look around to find them. We searched the toilets and

:03:05. > :03:11.searched everywhere to try and find them. It is windy here today but the

:03:12. > :03:14.winds yesterday were stronger. The two teenage boys were in the water

:03:15. > :03:20.just by here. One person did see one teenager going to the water and he

:03:21. > :03:23.did try to rescue him but there was little he could do to help. In

:03:24. > :03:29.Barmouth today there was shock and concern. They have not been in the

:03:30. > :03:42.water today. It is a concern when kids go in the water. It is quite

:03:43. > :03:45.scary. It is quite upsetting. Meanwhile further down the coast in

:03:46. > :03:49.Ceredigion search has been taking place for a man missing after being

:03:50. > :03:58.washed off a beach yesterday. He fell into the sea after being cut

:03:59. > :04:03.off by high tides. With the summer holidays well under way this is the

:04:04. > :04:10.busiest time for rescue crews. The RNLI in Barmouth has described this

:04:11. > :04:14.as a major operation. It was quite choppy yesterday and the wind rose

:04:15. > :04:17.steadily during the day. When the boys first went missing it was

:04:18. > :04:21.borderline but then it got quite rough. How difficult has it been the

:04:22. > :04:27.Eucharist in the power boats are very capable, the big boat in

:04:28. > :04:34.particular can handle that without any problem. After being stopped all

:04:35. > :04:41.day, now with the right tidal conditions the search has resumed.

:04:42. > :04:50.The boys have just been named locally by the Yemeni community.

:04:51. > :04:58.Today there has been a real says -- sense of sadness in Barmouth. A lot

:04:59. > :05:01.of people here have been scared to let their children into the water

:05:02. > :05:05.today because while they have been sunny spells it has also been quite

:05:06. > :05:09.windy and that has made for choppy conditions in the sea. That can

:05:10. > :05:16.sometimes look appealing to children with the large waves but the parents

:05:17. > :05:19.I have been speaking to today have been stopping their children from

:05:20. > :05:24.going into the water since his teenage boys have been missing.

:05:25. > :05:27.A little bit of Welsh sporting history was made last night,

:05:28. > :05:30.as Jazz Carlin became the first Welsh woman to win an Olympic

:05:31. > :05:32.medal in the pool for more than eighty years.

:05:33. > :05:35.The 25-year-old picked up a silver in the 400 metres.

:05:36. > :05:37.Our reporter, Rhodri Llewellyn, is in Rio for us and Rhodri it's

:05:38. > :05:42.fair to say Jazz Carlin was thrilled with her medal.

:05:43. > :05:45.We all knew she could do it, and late last night

:05:46. > :05:48.inside the Aquatics Centre behind me the former European champion

:05:49. > :05:50.and current Commonwealth champion swam the race of her life too claim

:05:51. > :05:53.an Olympic silver medal and the first podium finish

:05:54. > :06:03.Straight from the pool Jazz told us that she was over the moon!

:06:04. > :06:16.After the heartache of missing London 2012 due to illness she now

:06:17. > :06:22.has a silver Olympic medal to add to the ever expanding collection.

:06:23. > :06:32.Obviously four years ago I was watching on the sidelines

:06:33. > :06:36.wishing I was part of the Olympics and now I have got a silver medal

:06:37. > :06:40.And the Welsh wonder won her medal in style.

:06:41. > :06:43.After setting a Welsh record in the heats she broke it again

:06:44. > :06:46.in the final with a personal best and what a race to be

:06:47. > :06:50.involved in with winner American Katie Ledecky setting

:06:51. > :06:58.Watching from the stand, fighting back the tears,

:06:59. > :07:10.What I loved this morning when she touched the wall

:07:11. > :07:14.It was amazing to see her happy and enjoying herself

:07:15. > :07:19.Thank you so much for all your support.

:07:20. > :07:24.For everybody who has woken up and watched my swim, thank you.

:07:25. > :07:27.It's the culmination of years of work.

:07:28. > :07:30.A world away from the sunshine of Rio and Olympic glory,

:07:31. > :07:33.this is what it takes to compete with the best.

:07:34. > :07:37.Cold, dark mornings, training starts before most get up.

:07:38. > :07:42.13 hour days, six days a week at the National Training Centre

:07:43. > :07:46.in Bath where Jazz swims up to 80 kilometres week.

:07:47. > :07:52.There were high hopes for Chloe Tutton from Ystrad Rhondda

:07:53. > :07:55.in the hundred metres breaststroke but despite setting a new Welsh

:07:56. > :08:00.record in the heats she failed to make the final.

:08:01. > :08:05.Commonwealth medallist Georgia Davies couldn't get a place

:08:06. > :08:09.in the last eight of the 100 metres backstroke either.

:08:10. > :08:12.So Wales have won their first Olympic medal at these Games.

:08:13. > :08:14.It's their first in the pool since David Davies won a bronze

:08:15. > :08:21.On Thursday Jazz Carlin will be back in this pool

:08:22. > :08:28.It's an event where she won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games

:08:29. > :08:37.And Rhodri, another Jazz has a chance of

:08:38. > :08:40.winning a medal tonight - Pembrokeshire's Jasmine Joyce?

:08:41. > :08:48.Jasmine Joyce from St David's could make it two medals in two

:08:49. > :08:53.She's been an important member of the GB women's rugby sevens

:08:54. > :08:55.squad, featuring in every game and claiming a try against Brazil

:08:56. > :08:59.They've swept everyone aside, including Fiji, and face

:09:00. > :09:04.New Zealand in the semi-final at 7:00pm this evening.

:09:05. > :09:16.The winners will play Australia or Canada in the final.

:09:17. > :09:30.The losers, that is a chance of a bronze medal as well.

:09:31. > :09:35.Up to 32 jobs will be lost at a medical technology

:09:36. > :09:38.'Siemens Laboratory Diagnostics' employs more than 400 people

:09:39. > :09:41.at its site in Llanberis, where it makes equipment

:09:42. > :09:46.used on blood analysers in hospitals and clinics.

:09:47. > :09:48.The company says it's cutting the workforce due to a fall

:09:49. > :09:57.It says the decision is not linked to the Brexit vote.

:09:58. > :09:59.The number of people identified as victims of modern slavery has

:10:00. > :10:02.increased by nearly 400% in just three years, according

:10:03. > :10:05.to a report commissioned by the Welsh Government.

:10:06. > :10:07.The issue was thrown into the spotlight after

:10:08. > :10:11.David Daniel Doran was jailed in 2014 for forcing

:10:12. > :10:15.a vulnerable man to work unpaid at a farm near Newport.

:10:16. > :10:19.With 134 cases across Wales last year, it's believed the increase

:10:20. > :10:26.could be down to improvements in identifying victims.

:10:27. > :10:28.A mother accused of causing the death of her five-year-old son

:10:29. > :10:33.23-year-old Laura Bright's son, Joseph Smith, died

:10:34. > :10:34.in a three-vehicle crash on Cardiff's Western Avenue

:10:35. > :10:42.Her partner, 22-year-old Dean Collins, denies causing

:10:43. > :10:43.death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

:10:44. > :10:53.UKIP's leader in Wales could be expelled from the party tonight

:10:54. > :10:56.for failing to give up one of his two elected seats.

:10:57. > :10:59.Nathan Gill has been an MEP since 2014 and also won a seat

:11:00. > :11:04.A deadline for him to step down from one of those two

:11:05. > :11:14.Here's our political reporter James Williams.

:11:15. > :11:24.As political battlefields go Caerphilly has been one of Ukip's

:11:25. > :11:27.more successful areas. Here as in many of the areas in Wales the party

:11:28. > :11:32.has been fortifying its support which reached new heights in May as

:11:33. > :11:35.it stormed to the Welsh assembly. But despite recent victories

:11:36. > :11:42.including campaigning successfully for the UK to leave the EU Ukip has

:11:43. > :11:45.turned its weapons on itself and one of the most bloody battles in the

:11:46. > :11:51.party 's civil war is taking place here in Wales. It is a battle over

:11:52. > :11:56.this man's feature. Ukip Ozma gruelling committee is tonight

:11:57. > :11:59.siding whether to take Ukip's leader in Wales out of the party after he

:12:00. > :12:05.ignored the ultimatum for him to stand down from one of his two

:12:06. > :12:12.elected roles. Nathan Gill sits in both the assembly and the European

:12:13. > :12:15.Parliament. It is despicable they should hang that over a man who has

:12:16. > :12:21.led a successful Brexit campaign in Wales. He has done more debates than

:12:22. > :12:26.any other Ukip a semi-member. He has worked so hard for the party but

:12:27. > :12:33.also for the people of Wales and he will continue to do so. In the three

:12:34. > :12:38.weeks before we broke the recess he was there for half a day. We are

:12:39. > :12:44.having to do his work for him. His empty chair is a constant

:12:45. > :12:50.embarrassment. But what do the people of Caerphilly make of it? You

:12:51. > :12:56.need a sense of unity to succeed in politics. He wants to do two jobs

:12:57. > :13:01.and they won't let him. If they can handle two jobs why not? I don't

:13:02. > :13:09.think any party seems United right now. This aims to be confrontation

:13:10. > :13:13.in Ukip, the Tories and Labour. It is just the country in general right

:13:14. > :13:18.now doesn't know which direction it was to go in. Having won its first

:13:19. > :13:24.seats in May something the episode could split the Ukip group in the

:13:25. > :13:27.assembly. These should be they housing days. They had fantastic

:13:28. > :13:32.election results and they got the result they wanted in the EU

:13:33. > :13:39.referendum. But they are not enjoying their success. The party

:13:40. > :13:43.will go back into the assembly in September and it's difficult to see

:13:44. > :13:45.them within together. It is too early to tell whether such

:13:46. > :13:52.infighting were hard -- hamper party. Ukip has shown that it

:13:53. > :13:55.doesn't play by normal political rules.

:13:56. > :14:00.Any news from that marathon UKIP meeting yet?

:14:01. > :14:08.No. As it stands the party's National executive committee is

:14:09. > :14:11.still meeting in London and of course that issue of expelling

:14:12. > :14:14.Nathan Gill from the party is very much under discussion. But I am told

:14:15. > :14:21.that there are members of that committee who are minded to put that

:14:22. > :14:26.issue to a vote of the membership in Wales and ask them whether he should

:14:27. > :14:29.be expelled from the party. If they decide tonight to kick him out of

:14:30. > :14:34.the party I'm told Nathan Gill is vertically willing to remain as an

:14:35. > :14:39.independent here in Cardiff Bay as in the European Parliament in

:14:40. > :14:45.Brussels and Strasbourg. Here is willing to play the long game in

:14:46. > :14:47.that situation, hoping one of his allies winds and can bring him back

:14:48. > :14:50.into the fold. Nobody wants to see our politicians

:14:51. > :14:55.resorting to a punch up but one new AM wants a little more

:14:56. > :14:57.excitement and spark And the weather's

:14:58. > :15:02.never boring in Wales. We can have all four seasons

:15:03. > :15:04.in one day. But what's in store

:15:05. > :15:06.for the rest of this week? A quarry pool in Cilcain near Mold

:15:07. > :15:17.has been dyed black with food colouring to try to deter people

:15:18. > :15:20.from swimming in it. It's part of a campaign

:15:21. > :15:22.by North Wales Police and the quarrying firm Hanson

:15:23. > :15:24.to highlight the dangers It follows a number of incidents

:15:25. > :15:30.where young people have drowned Known as the blue lagoon,

:15:31. > :15:38.this pool at a Carmarthenshire quarry lured a 14-year-old boy

:15:39. > :15:41.to his death four years ago. Luke Somerfield from Llandeilo had

:15:42. > :15:45.been swimming with friends when he got into difficulties

:15:46. > :15:49.in the deep water. His parents have set up a memorial

:15:50. > :15:52.trust in his name partly to educate other young people

:15:53. > :16:05.about the dangers of quarries. He was very safety conscious about

:16:06. > :16:10.water. We had a boat and we used to go out on the boat and we took care

:16:11. > :16:14.on the water. I would like to think Hadi had this training he would not

:16:15. > :16:17.have gone in in the first place. The gates, razor wire and signs

:16:18. > :16:20.at this Flintshire quarry are still not enough to keep

:16:21. > :16:22.some people out. So Hanson the owners have dyed

:16:23. > :16:34.the water from a previously This quarry pool is 40 metres deep

:16:35. > :16:37.in places and has temperatures of less than 10 degrees. Although it

:16:38. > :16:41.might look inviting to some those temperatures are cold enough to

:16:42. > :16:48.kill. If muscles don't work as well as they should do very quickly you

:16:49. > :16:52.can have none -- numb fingers and it's difficult to climb out. You can

:16:53. > :17:02.get cramp. Very quickly people get into trouble. There is no bottom to

:17:03. > :17:06.touch because it's deep. At least one person a year accidentally

:17:07. > :17:09.drowns in quarry pulls in Wales. Earlier campaigns have demonstrated

:17:10. > :17:11.the dangers of quarry pools and North Wales Police have

:17:12. > :17:13.begun their own appeal, urging people to listen

:17:14. > :17:22.to those who've had to deal Talking to the gentleman I met when

:17:23. > :17:26.I came to the site he has to live with it every single day and he says

:17:27. > :17:32.it's very traumatic. They do everything they can and people still

:17:33. > :17:35.ignore the facts. It is dangerous and it is cordoned off for a reason.

:17:36. > :17:37.Whether it's freezing temperatures, submerged machinery or plants,

:17:38. > :17:39.it's what you can't see which can prove fatal.

:17:40. > :17:42.The black water of Cilcain quarry is meant to open people's

:17:43. > :17:46.Whilst some parliaments around the world are famed

:17:47. > :17:48.for their punch ups, politics in Cardiff Bay tends to be

:17:49. > :17:51.rather more sedate or boring even, according to one new Assembly

:17:52. > :17:54.Plaid Cymru's Steffan Lewis says people find the debates

:17:55. > :17:57.in the Senedd too dull and the chamber looks more

:17:58. > :17:59.like an open-plan office, than the seat of Wales' democracy.

:18:00. > :18:08.Here's our political reporter, Carl Roberts.

:18:09. > :18:15.Who says politics is boring? Parliamentary punching in the

:18:16. > :18:19.Ukraine and Georgia. But it's not like this everywhere. Here in

:18:20. > :18:22.Cardiff Bay on recently elected politician says some of the debates

:18:23. > :18:29.are dealt and that people are telling him that the semi-politics

:18:30. > :18:34.is boring. I think we need to add something. I am not suggesting Elin

:18:35. > :18:39.Jones should wear a caper anything like that but if we had a greater

:18:40. > :18:43.sense of occasion and the assembly and less predictability in some of

:18:44. > :18:49.the questions, that might create a bit more interest. The highlights of

:18:50. > :18:52.the political week is First Minister's Questions. Carwyn Jones

:18:53. > :18:55.takes questions from the floor. It is packed in here for that session

:18:56. > :18:59.but for many debates there are lot of indie seats and Steffan Lewis

:19:00. > :19:06.says it has the feel of an office. They does not did -- need to be in

:19:07. > :19:09.fighting all the time. It turns people off politics quite often.

:19:10. > :19:15.What politicians and journalists need to do is communicate how

:19:16. > :19:19.politics affects people's day-to-day lives and introduce solutions and

:19:20. > :19:27.policies that will make a difference to people's lives. There was

:19:28. > :19:34.sympathy for his view today. Bell, that is being kind. Boring and dull.

:19:35. > :19:39.Do you think it's the fault of the assembly all most politics? Most

:19:40. > :19:46.politics to most people and fortunately. Some of the debates can

:19:47. > :19:54.be a bit dull. I am not going to lie. They are sometimes. My Nan

:19:55. > :19:59.watches it. They could do with a bit of spicing up. Would you like it

:20:00. > :20:04.more like Westminster? Is that any better. When the assembler was

:20:05. > :20:10.established politicians said it would mark the beginning of

:20:11. > :20:11.consensus politics in Wales. 17 years on the consensus seems to be

:20:12. > :20:15.that that kind of politics is Dell. The Welsh Government has repeated

:20:16. > :20:18.its opposition to fracking today, following reports the UK Government

:20:19. > :20:20.is planning to offer money to people living near proposed

:20:21. > :20:22.drilling sites in England. The controversial method

:20:23. > :20:24.of extracting gas from deep underground has split

:20:25. > :20:26.opinion for years. Here to explain all is our

:20:27. > :20:39.environment correspondent, This plan by the Prime Minister

:20:40. > :20:45.Theresa May emerged over the weekend. The idea is that in those

:20:46. > :20:49.areas where the drilling is going ahead a portion of the taxes is

:20:50. > :20:53.handed directly to households living nearby. The UK Government is keen

:20:54. > :20:59.for fracking to take off in the UK. They see it as an important part of

:21:00. > :21:02.our energy mix in the future. It's different in Wales. The Welsh

:21:03. > :21:05.Government wants to see fracking stopped completely because it was

:21:06. > :21:09.more evidence about its impact on the environment. You can envisage a

:21:10. > :21:14.situation the future where people in Wales look to communities in England

:21:15. > :21:23.having these hand-outs for allowing fracking to go ahead and asking why

:21:24. > :21:28.aren't they having that opportunity. Some Labour MPs today accused the UK

:21:29. > :21:34.Government of bribery today. Glyn Davies a conservative MP says it

:21:35. > :21:35.will make people look at the evidence for themselves and consider

:21:36. > :21:39.it more carefully. So after Jazz Carlin's silver,

:21:40. > :21:41.where might Wales' next With news on that and the rest

:21:42. > :21:47.of today's sport, here's Tomos. Give the Welsh Premier

:21:48. > :21:52.League a chance. That's message from those running

:21:53. > :21:54.the game here just days before Following the national side's

:21:55. > :21:59.success at the European Championships, organisers

:22:00. > :22:15.of the Welsh Premiership are hoping It was an unforgettable summer when

:22:16. > :22:23.Wales exceeded all expectations at Euro 2016. They made headlines
