:00:30. > :00:34.support. the policy to refer all teenagers

:00:35. > :00:47.here isn't being followed. Also tonight, after Port Talbot's

:00:48. > :00:49.surprise loss against Rhyl, 11 people are arrested over

:00:50. > :00:56.allegations of match-fixing. The investigation into why an RAF

:00:57. > :01:03.helicopter burst into flames The new way of getting the food that

:01:04. > :01:15.supermarkets usually waste and Geraint Thomas' dreams

:01:16. > :01:18.of an Olympic medal are over after finishing

:01:19. > :01:26.ninth in the time trial. It's feared young cancer patients

:01:27. > :01:30.across the country could be missing out on the support available to them

:01:31. > :01:33.because the Welsh government policy The Teenage Cancer Trust support

:01:34. > :01:39.around 120 young people each year But the charity has told this

:01:40. > :01:45.programme they are concerned that hundreds of others aren't getting

:01:46. > :01:47.the services they need, and could be suffering alone,

:01:48. > :01:50.because they aren't being referred It's sometimes just a smile that'll

:01:51. > :01:59.do it, that'll make the day a little more normal,

:02:00. > :02:02.and less about the cancer. Anna organises activities for the

:02:03. > :02:06.patients on the Teenage Cancer Unit Crafts, cooking, a day out,

:02:07. > :02:22.or even just a battle I'm the professional friend. I'm not

:02:23. > :02:27.a medical at all. I talk about any issues they are having with

:02:28. > :02:33.university or school, revision. It can be anything. If they are anxious

:02:34. > :02:34.I can help them with coping. It's a lovely role to be in.

:02:35. > :02:38.This social space on the unit is a little more social

:02:39. > :02:41.than normal today - extra cash has been invested

:02:42. > :02:43.by the Teenage Cancer Trust and they've thrown a party.

:02:44. > :02:45.But they fear too many young people are missing out

:02:46. > :02:48.on the support available to them, simply because Welsh Government

:02:49. > :02:52.The policy states each patient be referred to a teenage cancer

:02:53. > :03:00.unit - of which this is the only one in Wales.

:03:01. > :03:08.We have 120 referred to us but there are another 120 or 130 out in the

:03:09. > :03:13.community who could be referred to us. At the moment they are

:03:14. > :03:16.suffering. They usually have more unusual cancers, they have no one

:03:17. > :03:24.else they can talk to a prior cancer. They will be suffering alone

:03:25. > :03:27.without peer support. The guidance says that patients should be

:03:28. > :03:32.referred, but in practice that doesn't happen? In practice that is

:03:33. > :03:32.not happening. We know that from experience.

:03:33. > :03:35.And the support is important - whether that's psychological,

:03:36. > :03:37.emotional, for patients and their family.

:03:38. > :03:42.Mary says without it, patients took longer

:03:43. > :03:44.to recover and would return, in need of counselling.

:03:45. > :03:45.Here, support is available alongside treatment,

:03:46. > :03:49.for patients like Hannah, from Pontypridd, who was diagnosed

:03:50. > :03:54.She finished her treatment yesterday - in time for her 22nd

:03:55. > :04:05.You don't feel like you are on a board. I've been put on wards with

:04:06. > :04:10.elderly people. We are all a similar age here with similar interests. I

:04:11. > :04:13.I couldn't have got through cancer without this unit.

:04:14. > :04:16.For every young person this unit treats, the concern is there's

:04:17. > :04:19.another out there who simply isn't getting the support available.

:04:20. > :04:21.So Jenny, concern that young cancer patients from right around

:04:22. > :04:23.the country are missing out on vital support?

:04:24. > :04:27.At the moment seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day,

:04:28. > :04:30.that's across the UK, the concern is that many of those

:04:31. > :04:34.in Wales who get that diagnosis, simply aren't getting

:04:35. > :04:40.Let's not forget, this is at a stage in their lives when they're

:04:41. > :04:43.going through so much change anyway, so add in a cancer diagnosis,

:04:44. > :04:48.and they can feel very alone - so the support of their peers,

:04:49. > :04:55.of specially trained staff, can be huge.

:04:56. > :04:58.Now Welsh Government say they expect health boards to meet national

:04:59. > :05:00.standards - which means they'd either be treated by clinicians

:05:01. > :05:04.who are part of a teenage and young adult cancer team, or an appropriate

:05:05. > :05:07.treatment plan should be developed in partnership with that team.

:05:08. > :05:11.In practice, as the unit in Cardiff is the only one in Wales,

:05:12. > :05:14.that means it's done with them - or patients in North Wales will be

:05:15. > :05:18.Now the Welsh Government say they've not had any reports

:05:19. > :05:21.from the health service indicating there's a problem -

:05:22. > :05:23.so they're now going to seek assurances that what they refer

:05:24. > :05:27.to as "rigorous standards are being met".

:05:28. > :05:29.This brings it back to something that was talked

:05:30. > :05:31.about today by the staff - the policy may be there,

:05:32. > :05:39.but their concern is there's no one to oversee that it's followed.

:05:40. > :05:46.Work is underway to remove the wreckage of an RAF helicopter,

:05:47. > :05:48.which burst into flames after an emergency landing

:05:49. > :05:52.The aircraft was involved in a training exercise

:05:53. > :05:54.yesterday afternoon, when a fault forced it to land.

:05:55. > :05:56.Six people were rescued from the mountainside.

:05:57. > :06:12.A railway station car park in Snowdonia has become a makeshift

:06:13. > :06:15.base of operations for the RAF. They are now overseeing the investigation

:06:16. > :06:15.into what happened to the Griffin helicopter.

:06:16. > :06:22.yesterday described plumes of thick black smoke and flames coming

:06:23. > :06:23.from the aircraft soon after it landed.

:06:24. > :06:26.All five crew and passengers and a sixth on the ground

:06:27. > :06:30.After a frenzy of activity with the police and coastguard

:06:31. > :06:32.helicopter working alongside the air ambulance and dozens of search

:06:33. > :06:35.and rescue teams the scene has been cordoned off to preserve

:06:36. > :06:47.What will happen now is we have a team on site at the moment, the

:06:48. > :06:51.hazardous material team. When the aircraft has been doubt on site they

:06:52. > :06:57.will check the aircraft and know everything that is hazardous on that

:06:58. > :06:59.frame. We have cordoned the aircraft at a safe distance to make sure it

:07:00. > :07:04.is perfectly safe as a crash site. The next stage will be

:07:05. > :07:06.a clear up operation. The helicopter crew members

:07:07. > :07:18.are being interviewed back Getting it town is likely to take

:07:19. > :07:22.several days and could involve a lifting the wreckage from the

:07:23. > :07:23.mountain. Crew members are being interviewed to give their version of

:07:24. > :07:25.events. A potential tragedy was averted

:07:26. > :07:28.by a rapid response from them and their rescuers -

:08:23. > :08:24.facilities, from South Wales Police have arrested 11

:08:25. > :08:34.people, as part of a probe into the alleged match-fixing

:08:35. > :08:36.of a Welsh Premier League game. Detectives began investigating,

:08:37. > :08:38.after receiving information about betting patterns

:08:39. > :08:41.on the football match between Port Talbot Town

:08:42. > :08:43.and Rhyl, earlier this year. The Police say those

:08:44. > :08:45.arrested included players, staff and associates

:08:46. > :09:02.of the Port Talbot club, The allegations of match fixing is

:09:03. > :09:08.around a game between Port Talbot and North Wales rivals, Rhyl back in

:09:09. > :09:12.April. A big win for Rhyl aroused suspicion of officials from the

:09:13. > :09:16.football Association of Wales. That five nil victory over the steel man

:09:17. > :09:22.was surprising because Rhyl had already been relegated and haven't

:09:23. > :09:25.won a game in 17 matches. The football Association of Wales

:09:26. > :09:28.contacted the gambling commission who subsequently passed information

:09:29. > :09:34.on to the police about betting patterns surrounding us came. Today

:09:35. > :09:40.police arrested ten people, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.

:09:41. > :09:44.And in the last few hours an 11th person was arrested. A spokesman for

:09:45. > :09:48.the police said the eight men and three women including players, staff

:09:49. > :09:53.and associates are being questioned by officers from the economic crime

:09:54. > :09:56.unit. Mark Jones, a former manager of the club says he is shocked by

:09:57. > :10:02.today's rests. There's a lot of things going on in

:10:03. > :10:06.the Wales of sport. Betting is a massive thing in sport. Hopefully

:10:07. > :10:10.the allegations are proved and substantial, I just hope it goes

:10:11. > :10:13.away quickly. They are a wonderful football club with a great set of

:10:14. > :10:19.fans. I'm sure they have to stick together now. You know, through

:10:20. > :10:24.adversity, and become stronger then. Research by BS a W shows that large

:10:25. > :10:31.sums of money bet on the outcome of Welsh Premier League games. -- by

:10:32. > :10:34.the Welsh football Association. Many bets are placed in China and

:10:35. > :10:40.Southeast Asia. They amount to ?75 million a year. The combination of

:10:41. > :10:44.big-money bets and modestly paid players creates the potential for

:10:45. > :10:52.match fixing. That's why two years ago the Welsh football decision --

:10:53. > :10:59.Association tried to educate clubs about betting integrity. The club

:11:00. > :11:03.are already out of the league because they don't meet the

:11:04. > :11:05.criteria. These match fixing allegations are a further blow to

:11:06. > :11:14.the steel man's future. A rural welfare charity has

:11:15. > :11:17.told BBC Wales that, in its 150 year history,

:11:18. > :11:19.it's never had so many requests for help from working farmers,

:11:20. > :11:22.who're struggling to make ends meet. The Royal Agricultural

:11:23. > :11:23.Benevolent Institution Cymru, says the amount of welfare it's

:11:24. > :11:26.given in the first six months of this year,

:11:27. > :11:42.is 84% higher than the same Yes, this is the heart of the social

:11:43. > :11:47.calendar for these people who farm work on farms in the Vale of

:11:48. > :11:52.Glamorgan. It comes at a time when the farming industry is in the

:11:53. > :11:58.middle of the tremendous uncertainty about global prices and policies.

:11:59. > :12:03.It's a time when many farming families in Wales have seen their

:12:04. > :12:07.incomes fall, that means they are not the financial cushion they might

:12:08. > :12:14.have had in the past. Fiona Jones and her children are looking to the

:12:15. > :12:18.future. They've had a difficult few years. Fiona and her husband, Simon,

:12:19. > :12:26.had been farming a council owned farm in Powys. Early 2012 my husband

:12:27. > :12:30.was taken ill with ice off or cancer. Obviously, everything turned

:12:31. > :12:35.upside down. -- cancer of the oesophagus. Treatment took the best

:12:36. > :12:40.part of the year to get through. And that's when we contacted the

:12:41. > :12:43.charity. The charity paid for them to

:12:44. > :12:45.visiting him in hospital 60 miles away and gave practical help when he

:12:46. > :12:53.came home. They helped fund automatic bed with

:12:54. > :12:58.a specialist mattress on it. It made his last months much more

:12:59. > :13:01.comfortable. That, the main thing was, he was able to keep his

:13:02. > :13:07.dignity. He wanted more than anything. Life could go one as

:13:08. > :13:12.normal as possible. As long as possible.

:13:13. > :13:15.Rees gave up his job as a store manager to help keep the family farm

:13:16. > :13:20.going. If they hadn't been there to help as

:13:21. > :13:24.we properly would not be farming at the moment. The decision may have

:13:25. > :13:28.been made, and it may have been that the farm was not viable or we

:13:29. > :13:30.wouldn't have had the time to carry on.

:13:31. > :13:34.Do you feel you are continuing your dad's project? I think that I'm

:13:35. > :13:37.carrying on the good work he was doing and reaching for the goals he

:13:38. > :13:42.was reaching for. This charity has spent much more

:13:43. > :13:47.this year than last year. In fact, 30% when you look at all farming is

:13:48. > :13:51.they have. If you look at working farmers aren't working farm workers

:13:52. > :13:57.the of charity offered in the first six months of this year is more than

:13:58. > :14:01.80% more than last. Many are just one step away from

:14:02. > :14:05.quite difficult circumstances, for example, if there is bereavement in

:14:06. > :14:12.the family, if the farm member is taken ill, seriously ill, adverse

:14:13. > :14:16.weather conditions can affect the farmers, what he might be able to be

:14:17. > :14:21.dos that year. For each family helped there are

:14:22. > :14:26.many more farming families who are having to manage with much lower

:14:27. > :14:30.incomes. Dairy farmers are one example, this farmer farms with his

:14:31. > :14:35.father they produce more than 5000 litres of milk a day, and like most

:14:36. > :14:39.dairy farmers lose money on every litre. They get half the price they

:14:40. > :14:43.did two years ago. If prices stay the same, no, I don't

:14:44. > :14:50.think that most daily farmers would say that they would be willing to

:14:51. > :14:56.suffer the pain to survive. Why? There comes a point, doesn't there?

:14:57. > :15:00.When you say why are we bothering? For many low prices mean there is no

:15:01. > :15:04.cushion when things go wrong. The Jones family are just one family but

:15:05. > :15:05.it is significant that there is an increase in the number of families

:15:06. > :15:15.who are struggling. Is there a sign of the struggle

:15:16. > :15:18.changing's there isn't any sign that prices are rising in terms of the

:15:19. > :15:23.money that farmers are getting. There are some sectors that are

:15:24. > :15:26.better than others, dairy in particular has a problem.

:15:27. > :15:32.Particularly dairy farmers in Wales, more than in England. It also, of

:15:33. > :15:36.course, comes at a time when there is a real global change. The

:15:37. > :15:40.slowdown in the economy in China, believe it or not, is affecting

:15:41. > :15:45.farmers in Wales. The Chinese middle class are buying fewer of goods, few

:15:46. > :15:49.of our food and drinks, and as a result there is more in the market

:15:50. > :15:55.and prices are falling. That is before you even look at Brexit and

:15:56. > :15:58.what that will do. Subsidies is an interesting one. Some farmers say

:15:59. > :16:03.they can't continue without subsidies, they need them. While

:16:04. > :16:08.others including the dairy sector, many say that getting 14p a litre

:16:09. > :16:12.for their milk, the subsidy only accounts for 2p a litre. It does not

:16:13. > :16:15.affect them much. What we know is that the world population is growing

:16:16. > :16:19.and over the next decade in the decade after that the world, whether

:16:20. > :16:21.it is Wales or the part of the world, needs to produce more food.

:16:22. > :16:31.A gutsy effort as ever. We would expect nothing less.

:16:32. > :16:38.The latest from Rio, where Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas

:16:39. > :16:42.failed to win a medal in the time trial.

:16:43. > :16:44.A huge amount of food is thrown away by supermarkets every day.

:16:45. > :16:48.Much of it goes to waste, but there are a number of projects

:16:49. > :16:50.which aim to give spare produce to the thousands of people

:16:51. > :16:57.With the growing popularity of so-called food sharing apps,

:16:58. > :17:00.the process is becoming easier, and many more charities are getting

:17:01. > :17:09.involved - as our reporter, Ben Price has been finding out.

:17:10. > :17:17.I've got some peppers. How many peppers have you got? Waste not,

:17:18. > :17:21.want not. Products that could have been thrown in the bin by this store

:17:22. > :17:25.in Swansea are handed over to a local charity who are always up for

:17:26. > :17:30.a culinary challenge. Nothing goes to waste. We have kids

:17:31. > :17:32.coming in through the school holidays especially. People

:17:33. > :17:37.struggling a lot in the school holidays with young children. But

:17:38. > :17:42.whatever we've got here, they can come in and access. Everybody is

:17:43. > :17:47.benefiting out of it. They are all having a hot meal. As

:17:48. > :17:52.tagging food waste continues to be a problem for supermarkets a new app

:17:53. > :17:55.is helping businesses to redistribute soon as products to

:17:56. > :17:59.those who need it most. The process could not be simpler.

:18:00. > :18:03.When the charity is connected with the store they will, Ahmad Knight,

:18:04. > :18:10.have a look around and see what food is available. They process that

:18:11. > :18:14.through their PDA. -- at night. They have an idea of what food is

:18:15. > :18:19.available. That is when the store take it off the shelves and put it

:18:20. > :18:22.in the back for the charity to collect.

:18:23. > :18:25.Since it launched earlier this year the food cloud app has helped to

:18:26. > :18:31.redistribute 36 tonnes of food across South Wales. That is

:18:32. > :18:34.equivalent to 80,000 meals. In Swansea University's Singleton

:18:35. > :18:39.campus as most students are away group of older people are benefiting

:18:40. > :18:43.from this sharing scheme. This is surplus food from local

:18:44. > :18:47.restaurants, cafes and the University. It could have ended up

:18:48. > :18:50.in the bin, but it has been cooked fresh here this evening and is being

:18:51. > :18:55.served to people from the community. Thank you.

:18:56. > :19:00.You can see the community benefit from this scheme. The students, the

:19:01. > :19:05.elderly within the community. But also it is the emphasis on working

:19:06. > :19:08.with homeless charities and refugee charity to make sure food is

:19:09. > :19:12.available so that they can use their limited resources on other essential

:19:13. > :19:17.items. From dinner in Swansea to breakfast

:19:18. > :19:21.in Cardiff, using perfectly good leftovers from Sainsbury is a mid

:19:22. > :19:23.week breakfast club is a recent addition to this community centre in

:19:24. > :19:27.Splott. We like to think it's a really

:19:28. > :19:33.positive part of the week. They come, whatever food we have, that we

:19:34. > :19:38.don't use for breakfast we hand out. They have something to take home

:19:39. > :19:42.with them. As Wales hopes to become a zero waste nation by 2050 food

:19:43. > :19:43.redistribution schemes are making a fruitful contribution.

:19:44. > :19:45.An Olympic medal isn't meant to be for cyclist

:19:46. > :19:50.After crashing out of the road race on Saturday he competed again today

:19:51. > :19:53.in the time trial but failed to get onto the medal table.

:19:54. > :20:02.Our reporter Catrin Heledd is in Rio.

:20:03. > :20:09.Yes, it wasn't meant to be for Geraint Thomas today. He was going

:20:10. > :20:14.for his third Olympic gold medal, a late addition to the trying Trail

:20:15. > :20:21.race. He did have the perfect Welsh weather for it but it wasn't to be.

:20:22. > :20:25.Lady luck was not on his side. Back in the saddle, with unfinished

:20:26. > :20:28.business, after crashing out of medal contention in the road race on

:20:29. > :20:33.Saturday Geraint Thomas delayed going on holiday this week in the
