:00:00. > :00:09.A third bridge to Anglesey over the Menai Strait could begin by 2021

:00:10. > :00:24.When I go shopping there's always a lot of traffic over the Britannia

:00:25. > :00:24.Bridge so I think it would be a good idea.

:00:25. > :00:27.Not everyone's in favour - could the money be better spent

:00:28. > :00:30.elsewhere or will a new nuclear power station and its construction

:00:31. > :00:45.traffic demand better transport infrastructure?

:00:46. > :00:50.In tonight's sport, the first Welsh woman to win an Olympic rowing medal

:00:51. > :01:03.It's silver for Victoria Thornley from Wrexham.

:01:04. > :01:06.Amazing, we did everything we could in that race in difficult conditions

:01:07. > :01:15.but we did what we set out to do. for damage caused by potholes

:01:16. > :01:20.This is the third coach company to stop trading in as many months -

:01:21. > :01:26.And why tourism in Wales may be one of the sectors to benefit

:01:27. > :01:36.from the continuing fall in the pound post-Brexit.

:01:37. > :01:39.Building work on a third bridge connecting Anglesey

:01:40. > :01:41.with the mainland, could start by 2021

:01:42. > :01:46.if plans to ease traffic on the island get the go ahead.

:01:47. > :01:49.The Welsh Government says experts will start looking at routes

:01:50. > :01:54.It's hoped it'll end congestion on the existing bridges

:01:55. > :02:03.There are currently two ways to get onto and off Anglesey by car

:02:04. > :02:05.but within a few years there could be another.

:02:06. > :02:09.The A55, which was extended across the island has helped improve

:02:10. > :02:11.journey times but bottlenecks at the Menai and Britannia bridges

:02:12. > :02:17.Those who've spent years campaigning for a new one say it's long overdue.

:02:18. > :02:21.There are delays to the mainland in the mornings and from mainland

:02:22. > :02:31.If something seriously goes wrong then it does affect

:02:32. > :02:33.And at lunchtime the ferry traffic but it

:02:34. > :02:36.is the resilience that is the main issue, it's something seriously goes

:02:37. > :02:38.wrong then it does affect the economy of the whole area.

:02:39. > :02:41.Businesses like Halen Mon, a sea salt company think the whole

:02:42. > :02:43.island would benefit from a new bridge.

:02:44. > :02:44.Anything that makes Anglesey more accessible

:02:45. > :02:49.At the moment, some people don't think we have any bridges at all.

:02:50. > :02:51.They think we have boats that cross very infrequently,

:02:52. > :02:54.so, you know, if we have a third bridge it will raise

:02:55. > :02:58.There are those who argue that congestion is only at its worst

:02:59. > :03:02.Meanwhile, some others including businesses think road

:03:03. > :03:06.improvements are vastly overdue but with the Menai

:03:07. > :03:08.and Britannia Crossings already in place, would a third

:03:09. > :03:13.Although the island's MP welcomes the progress he wants

:03:14. > :03:18.We need to look properly at this, have proper traffic flows

:03:19. > :03:20.and reports, not just for those pinch points but for

:03:21. > :03:25.I've also suggested we look at a time as well.

:03:26. > :03:27.If we're going to have consultations, let's consult

:03:28. > :03:34.we need to improve rail links, other links as well.

:03:35. > :03:37.There were split opinions among motorists in the village here today.

:03:38. > :03:41.I think there is a lot of hoopla about

:03:42. > :03:47.when the Britannia Bridge is a bit crowded because I'm a Londoner and I

:03:48. > :03:52.left there years ago but that's traffic jams.

:03:53. > :03:55.When I'm going shopping there's always a lot of traffic going over

:03:56. > :03:59.the Britannia Bridge so I think it'd be a good idea.

:04:00. > :04:02.I don't think it's bad in comparison to other places.

:04:03. > :04:08.There are critical periods but it flows.

:04:09. > :04:10.The Welsh government says it will explore ways of funding

:04:11. > :04:13.the crossing and hire consultants to select the best

:04:14. > :04:22.Victoria Thornley from Wrexham has become the first ever Welsh woman

:04:23. > :04:25.to win a rowing medal at the Olympic Games.

:04:26. > :04:28.She took Silver with her partner Katherine Grainger

:04:29. > :04:33.The pair missed out on gold by just half a length

:04:34. > :04:38.Let's speak to Rhodri Llywelyn in Rio.

:04:39. > :04:50.Rhodri, it was quite a race. Quite a race, quite a journey Jamie.

:04:51. > :04:53.Not so long ago Victoria Thornley was without a boat for these

:04:54. > :04:55.She's now an Olympic Silver medallist.

:04:56. > :04:57.After the race Thornley said that she'd dreamt of winning

:04:58. > :04:59.an Olympic medal ever since she'd started rowing.

:05:00. > :05:15.COMMENTATOR: They had come from nowhere this season... Exhausted but

:05:16. > :05:21.elated. Victoria Thornley becomes Wales's second medallist at this

:05:22. > :05:28.game is, as taste of success having finished fifth in London. Amazing.

:05:29. > :05:33.We did everything we could in difficult conditions. We did what we

:05:34. > :05:39.could could do. Her partner Katherine Grainger is a veteran. She

:05:40. > :05:43.is now Britain's most decorated female Olympian. Our experience

:05:44. > :05:50.something firmly but I've done. There are not many people who would

:05:51. > :05:56.expect us to lead the race was so long. We had belief in each other

:05:57. > :06:00.and our boat. We went out to try and win the race, we are out to win it.

:06:01. > :06:06.Disappointingly couldn't hold on in the end but immensely proud of that

:06:07. > :06:10.medal. There was a possibility that it wouldn't be at all. Following a

:06:11. > :06:14.disappointing European Championships in their partnership was abandoned

:06:15. > :06:18.but reformed to allow them to compete at these games. Today, it

:06:19. > :06:24.was a decision vindicated. They led for most of the race, taking in deep

:06:25. > :06:29.and only pipped to the post by opponent in the last few strokes.

:06:30. > :06:35.Really, really proud of them. We saw them on Saturday when they did the

:06:36. > :06:40.first race and we're just so pleased they have been able to come on and

:06:41. > :06:43.get a sober. I think they did really well. They were really close to

:06:44. > :06:48.winning the gold medal so I think they did extremely well. Another

:06:49. > :06:53.Welsh athlete is back on the podium here at these Olympic Games in the

:06:54. > :07:00.footsteps of Jeff Carlin in the pool earlier in the week. You know what?

:07:01. > :07:06.It not be the last time we see such celebratory scenes with judo, rugby

:07:07. > :07:11.and swimming medals up for grabs. -- jazz Carlin.

:07:12. > :07:13.So, Welsh athletes have now won two medals here in Rio.

:07:14. > :07:16.And there could be a few more before the night's over.

:07:17. > :07:18.I'll be back with the details later in the programme.

:07:19. > :07:21.A man has been jailed for eight years for killing an ex-girlfriend

:07:22. > :07:25.51-year-old Andrea Lewis was killed in what the court heard

:07:26. > :07:27.was a violent and protracted attack in January this year.

:07:28. > :07:30.Rhys Hobbs pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Swansea Crown

:07:31. > :07:43.A 19-year-old man from Llanelli has been charged in connection

:07:44. > :07:44.with international computer crimes, blackmail and money laundering.

:07:45. > :07:47.Daniel Mark Kelley has also been charged in connection with an attack

:07:48. > :07:49.on a college computer system, which affected coursework

:07:50. > :07:51.submissions and exam administration at Coleg Sir Gar.

:07:52. > :07:55.He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court next month.

:07:56. > :07:58.Police say just over 300 motorists failed drink-drive breath tests

:07:59. > :08:03.and 131 tested positive for drugs during a summer clamp-down.

:08:04. > :08:07.More than 9,500 breath tests and nearly 200 drug

:08:08. > :08:10.tests were carried out, across Wales in June and July.

:08:11. > :08:13.Officers say they're most concerned about the number of drivers

:08:14. > :08:23.on the road under the influence of drugs.

:08:24. > :08:30.Ultimately there are people here in Wales who have lost loved ones, who

:08:31. > :08:34.are injured as a result of people driving under the influence of

:08:35. > :08:39.drugs. This is unacceptable and we need people to realise this is

:08:40. > :08:41.socially unacceptable and that legislation and our productivity is

:08:42. > :08:44.changing to make sure we take enforcement action.

:08:45. > :08:47.Staying on the roads and councils should stop doing panic patch

:08:48. > :08:49.repairs to potholes and instead focus on keeping roads

:08:50. > :08:52.The RAC says sorting roads out before any problems,

:08:53. > :08:56.Councils across Wales have spent more than ?30 million pounds

:08:57. > :08:59.in the last five years paying compensation after accidents

:09:00. > :09:02.and filling potholes in after receiving complaints.

:09:03. > :09:18.It has been a busy time for BRAC. Our patrols are attending twice as

:09:19. > :09:22.many breakdowns resulting from the driver hitting a pothole as we did

:09:23. > :09:25.ten years ago which clearly underlines the fact we are seeing a

:09:26. > :09:30.deterioration in the road surface across England and Wales. According

:09:31. > :09:35.to the our ACE number of vehicles being damaged by potholes is up

:09:36. > :09:40.hundred and 25%, clustering motorists money and road users

:09:41. > :09:45.discomfort. My husband can't travel omnibuses because he had a problem

:09:46. > :09:53.with his spine and cause there is so much bumping it makes him feel ill

:09:54. > :09:54.and six. It costs us a lot of money to maintain our vehicles because of

:09:55. > :09:56.the repairs. Between 2010 to 2015 the figures

:09:57. > :09:59.from 18 out of 22 Welsh councils who responded to a Freedom

:10:00. > :10:01.of Information request showed over ?30 million was spent filling

:10:02. > :10:03.in potholes after complaints Swansea council and Ceredigion

:10:04. > :10:08.council said they had spent more One person in Ceredigion was given

:10:09. > :10:15.over ?83,000 after sustaining an injury from falling

:10:16. > :10:28.over a pothole. When it comes to repairing potholes

:10:29. > :10:32.what has been done in the past is the patch and- repair, which is fine

:10:33. > :10:36.short term but when the weather gets colder and wetter it can need the

:10:37. > :10:43.service breaks easily again. What they are doing here is paying's

:10:44. > :10:48.spending ?20 million to repair large sections of the roads, which they

:10:49. > :10:52.say is more cost-effective. We have closed the road today to resurface

:10:53. > :10:55.we have laid the tarmac and we are now lining them with the white and

:10:56. > :10:59.yellow lines and within the next hour we will be opening the road.

:11:00. > :11:04.Obviously that is much bigger and more expensive than filling in

:11:05. > :11:08.potholes here and there? Yes it is but we are being proactive and if we

:11:09. > :11:12.can tackle the issue on surfacing the road prior to it deteriorating

:11:13. > :11:17.that is much better and cheaper in the long term. The councils across

:11:18. > :11:20.the country are facing big holes in their transport budgets, getting to

:11:21. > :11:25.grips with this problem is likely to be a bumpy road ahead.

:11:26. > :11:28.A man from Blaenau Gwent has been jailed for ten months for taking

:11:29. > :11:33.The demonstrations relate to clashes between far right and left groups

:11:34. > :11:40.The police say the man travelled to Kent in January to take part in the

:11:41. > :11:43.protest and was caught on camera throwing objects at rival

:11:44. > :11:45.demonstrators. More than 20 people have been sentenced for taking part

:11:46. > :11:47.in violent acts. A defence technology company

:11:48. > :11:50.with two sites in Wales says Qintetiq, which has offices

:11:51. > :11:53.across the UK including in Aberporth and Pendine

:11:54. > :11:55.employs more than three The company says it will

:11:56. > :11:59.discuss the changes with A direct bus service running

:12:00. > :12:05.from Aberystwyth to Cardiff is to end after the company running

:12:06. > :12:11.it went into administration. Ceredigion-based Lewis Coaches,

:12:12. > :12:11.which has 30 vehicles, With no direct trains

:12:12. > :12:15.between Aberystwyth and Cardiff, Lewis Coaches is the third bus

:12:16. > :12:37.company in Wales to collapse This bus service runs twice a day

:12:38. > :12:42.and connect Aberystwyth with the Wales's capital. It is the only

:12:43. > :12:45.direct bus service and with no train links running between here and

:12:46. > :12:49.Cardiff this is an essential service for its passengers but it will stop

:12:50. > :12:54.tomorrow after the company that runs it went into administration. Annoyed

:12:55. > :12:59.but it is because we take this service regularly and it is much

:13:00. > :13:07.cheaper to get from here to Cardiff. Lowered away from home so we come

:13:08. > :13:11.up. I live in Sun the -- Swansea. People coming from Cardiff are going

:13:12. > :13:15.to have to travel either to Shrewsbury and across all they're

:13:16. > :13:20.going to have to travel to Carmarthen and hope there was a

:13:21. > :13:24.connecting bus service. Lewis Coaches has 30 vehicles and improved

:13:25. > :13:31.30 people battered services will stop tomorrow and put jobs at risk

:13:32. > :13:35.after going into administration. They didn't want to comment on

:13:36. > :13:38.camera because they say it is heartbreaking enough having to close

:13:39. > :13:43.the business that they have said it is with great sadness we are closing

:13:44. > :13:46.and we would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty over

:13:47. > :13:50.the years and we hope this does not cause any problems for them. Lewis

:13:51. > :13:55.Coaches is the third bus company in Wales to collapse in the last two

:13:56. > :13:59.months with 300 jobs lost when a Wrexham -based company went into

:14:00. > :14:07.administration in July and a Pembrokeshire -based company went

:14:08. > :14:12.out of business after 134 years in June. Companies have got into

:14:13. > :14:15.financial difficulties over a number of years. Companies have been under

:14:16. > :14:22.bidding for contracts or schools, they are been given control of their

:14:23. > :14:25.costs and as a result the cash reserves have run out and that is

:14:26. > :14:30.why they are going into administration now. This gentleman

:14:31. > :14:33.believes it is becoming more competitive and many companies are

:14:34. > :14:38.offering their services to cheaply without calculating long-term costs.

:14:39. > :14:46.Ideal a lot of operators will think they have to have tenders and they

:14:47. > :14:50.don't realise that it is five years ahead you have to look not just what

:14:51. > :14:55.the present prices are for diesel and vehicles themselves. Ceredigion

:14:56. > :15:03.council says it is working to carry on some services and plans are in

:15:04. > :15:05.place for other routes to be taken over by firms on Saturday. This bus

:15:06. > :15:07.link. We'll have more from Rio

:15:08. > :15:12.where Welsh athletes could win And he's a record-breaking batsman

:15:13. > :15:16.tipped for England - Aneurin Donald prepares

:15:17. > :15:19.for the biggest night And the Persied Meteor Shower can be

:15:20. > :15:25.seen at the moment. Plus, no heatwave but temperatures

:15:26. > :15:37.look set to rocket next week. Tourism in Wales may be one

:15:38. > :15:40.of the sectors to benefit from the continuing fall

:15:41. > :15:41.in the pound post-Brexit. On referendum day ?1 would have

:15:42. > :15:44.bought you 1.3 Euros, but today it's trading at 1.16

:15:45. > :15:47.Euros. Abigail Neal is in

:15:48. > :15:49.Brecon for us tonight. Why is this good news for some

:15:50. > :16:05.people then Abi? Well, there are always winners and

:16:06. > :16:09.losers but some people a fall in the pound may have an upside because on

:16:10. > :16:13.the one hand it persuades foreign visitors to come here because they

:16:14. > :16:16.get more for their money and on the other it persuades us from leaving

:16:17. > :16:22.because it makes more financial sense for us to stay put and spend

:16:23. > :16:27.our money on tourism here instead. It is not just that the pound buys

:16:28. > :16:31.you left this summer. Couple that with the recent terrorist attacks in

:16:32. > :16:37.Europe and the sun it is a deal change. It makes me think a little

:16:38. > :16:41.bit less about going abroad. What goes on in the world doesn't affect

:16:42. > :16:47.us all we don't let it. We are sorry it happened but we don't let it

:16:48. > :16:57.affect us. We choose to stay here. It is too early to stay yet -- say

:16:58. > :17:00.yet what effect Brexit and terrorism are having on our shores because it

:17:01. > :17:06.is difficult to get hold of figures but anecdotally we are being told

:17:07. > :17:08.that business is thriving. Occupancy rate for accommodation are

:17:09. > :17:12.oversubscribed although that is not a worry for those with their own

:17:13. > :17:18.pitch and get away whenever they can. I don't have to worry about

:17:19. > :17:21.passports or queueing. Look at what happened in Dover the other week.

:17:22. > :17:29.God forbid, that would put anyone off their holidays. It is the ease

:17:30. > :17:36.of having a great break when we need it. This is one of our mid ranged

:17:37. > :17:42.units, it retails at a. It is like a luxury apartment. Caravans don't

:17:43. > :17:46.look like cost what they used to. This holiday park owner in

:17:47. > :17:50.Pembrokeshire is in no doubt that staying at home is on the rise

:17:51. > :17:55.because more of us are looking to invest money on these luxury items.

:17:56. > :17:59.Sales this year have been very strong. Enquiries are up and there

:18:00. > :18:04.seem to be a lot of serious people out there and people are prepared to

:18:05. > :18:08.invest in the lifestyle these days. People are prepared to invest in

:18:09. > :18:13.that and enjoy themselves. What we lack in the Mediterranean sunshine

:18:14. > :18:17.we make up in other areas. It seems regardless of the weather, with

:18:18. > :18:23.other factors at work, holiday at home is more popular than ever.

:18:24. > :18:29.If those figures do show that tourism has had a boost, then it is

:18:30. > :18:33.likely to have more of an impact here in Wales than the rest of the

:18:34. > :18:38.UK. Because tourism accounts for more of our workforce and more of

:18:39. > :18:38.our economy than it does in Scotland, England or Northern

:18:39. > :18:40.Ireland. With all of tonight's

:18:41. > :18:42.sport now, here's Tomos. Our latest silver medallist

:18:43. > :18:44.Victoria Thornley has said she was not sure it

:18:45. > :18:46.would ever happen. Well, tonight she can celebrate

:18:47. > :18:49.and there's plenty happening at the Olympics so let's head back

:18:50. > :18:53.to Rio and Rhodri Llywelyn. Two medals so far for welsh athletes

:18:54. > :19:09.hopefully more on the way tonight. We're crossing everything. Plenty of

:19:10. > :19:14.action still to come this evening. Another late evening for everyone

:19:15. > :19:18.watching back home. Natalie Powell is still in with a chance. She

:19:19. > :19:22.became the first Welsh and women to compete in judo at the Olympics and

:19:23. > :19:28.is two wins away from a possible bronze medal. She competes again at

:19:29. > :19:33.7:30pm. Swimming and after her silver medal in the 400 meter

:19:34. > :19:40.freestyle, jazz parliament is safely through to the 800 metre final in

:19:41. > :19:49.the early hours of the morning on Saturday -- jazz Carlo in. Chloe

:19:50. > :19:53.Tutton has made her way through to the first final in her first

:19:54. > :20:00.Olympics. That final during the early hours of tomorrow morning.

:20:01. > :20:03.Not sure about his dance moves, but Ieuan Lloyd seemed to enjoy

:20:04. > :20:06.He didn't make it through, though, finishing sixth.

:20:07. > :20:09.The swimmer from Penarth said it was special to compete

:20:10. > :20:11.against the American Michael Phelps, who's going for his 22nd

:20:12. > :20:23.Elinor Barker, Ciara Horne and Owain Doull will get underway in the

:20:24. > :20:28.cycling and the sailing continues with Hannah Mills and Chirs Grube on

:20:29. > :20:33.the busiest day yet for those athletes here in Rio.

:20:34. > :20:34.Cricket, and Glamorgan take on Yorkshire

:20:35. > :20:48.in the quarterfinal of cricket's T20 in Cardiff tonight -

:20:49. > :20:58.Our reporter Ben Price has been to meet one of Glamorgan's rising

:20:59. > :21:03.stars. At the age of 19 he is already making a name for himself.

:21:04. > :21:09.At Colwyn Bay a few weeks ago this was the moment Donald entered the

:21:10. > :21:17.record books by entering the fastest ever double century in Test cricket.

:21:18. > :21:20.Back in his home city last week to play Northamptonshire, he is

:21:21. > :21:25.familiar with the Saint Helen 's ground but not necessarily as a
