:00:00. > :00:09.Ford Bridgend is to cut the level of investment and halve production

:00:10. > :00:16.of its new generation of petrol engines.

:00:17. > :00:24.Tonight, grave concerns from both unions and MPs. What the statement

:00:25. > :00:27.said is that it will go from 750 jobs to 550. That is our reduction.

:00:28. > :00:29.They said there will not be redundant. My concern is how that

:00:30. > :00:29.works. Inspecting damage to cars

:00:30. > :00:31.towed out of the mud Organisers defend their decision

:00:32. > :00:36.to park vehicles on a flood plain. They've pulled the

:00:37. > :00:44.bumper off his car. He got stuck in mud and the bumper

:00:45. > :00:47.is completely also we are just waiting for someone to pick us up

:00:48. > :00:48.and we will probably write the car off.

:00:49. > :00:53.after dominant industries like steel disappear - tonight the call

:00:54. > :01:06.The future of salmon fishing in some of our rivers could be in doubt.

:01:07. > :01:13.Experts warn the number of young salmon has reached an all-time low.

:01:14. > :01:15.And if you Fat today felt warm, tomorrow will be even one and humid.

:01:16. > :01:27.-- thought. -- warmer and units. They make the engines for some

:01:28. > :01:33.of our best known cars - but tonight unions say

:01:34. > :01:36.there are "grave concerns" about the future of the Ford factory

:01:37. > :01:39.in Bridgend after it emerged the car-maker is halving the number

:01:40. > :01:46.of engines it's to build there. The company had planned

:01:47. > :01:53.to make 250,000 of its new generation Dragon engines -

:01:54. > :01:55.but will now make just 125,000. Ford insists no jobs are to be lost

:01:56. > :01:59.- but unions say it raises serious questions about the company's long

:02:00. > :02:01.term commitment to Bridgend. Here's our Business

:02:02. > :02:09.Correspondent, Brian Meechan It's been operating in Bridgend

:02:10. > :02:14.since 1980, providing skilled well-paid jobs. But Unite the union

:02:15. > :02:21.said the plan is now in a very dangerous situation. Ford announced

:02:22. > :02:25.last year that it would invest ?181 million in the manufacturing of a

:02:26. > :02:29.new generation of petrol engines at Bridgend. The relatively provided

:02:30. > :02:34.?15 million to help bring the work to the plant. It has emerged that

:02:35. > :02:38.Ford have now told word of it all only be investing ?100 million. It

:02:39. > :02:45.is unclear what that means for the taxpayer money towards the deal.

:02:46. > :02:51.Ford have given an Ashour and that the jobs will be safeguarded that we

:02:52. > :02:54.recognise there are is anxiety. -- Shawlands. The Welsh job and

:02:55. > :03:00.continue to do everything it can and will do to secure jobs for the

:03:01. > :03:03.long-term. In the 1800 people who work there are amongst the most

:03:04. > :03:06.skilled and qualified in our economy, so it is essential that

:03:07. > :03:10.there is a pipeline of new development that can go to that

:03:11. > :03:15.plan. I don't think the signals to move out of the UK. This is a very

:03:16. > :03:20.sick Cecil plant. It has been in the Ford group in many years and they

:03:21. > :03:28.will not want to use that one. -- successful plant. -- lose that one.

:03:29. > :03:37.In the long term commonly Bridgend plant has two complete. Ford say no

:03:38. > :03:41.jobs will be lost. They say people will be redeployed at the site but

:03:42. > :03:44.it's an clear how this would be the case given that other manufacturing

:03:45. > :03:49.work there is coming to an end and has not yet been replaced. Ford told

:03:50. > :03:55.workers this move was an applicability. There's so much going

:03:56. > :03:59.on in automotive at the moment, smaller engines, hybrid engines,

:04:00. > :04:02.alternative fuel. I think this is the back just saying, hang on a

:04:03. > :04:06.second, we will give ourselves a little little space air. Yes, we are

:04:07. > :04:11.making me that as well, yes we will have the same level of jobs but at

:04:12. > :04:15.the moment, we are just dying to have that number that we got the

:04:16. > :04:19.might need. The news will concern people across the south Wales

:04:20. > :04:23.region. What the statement said is that all will go from 750 jobs in

:04:24. > :04:27.550. That is obviously a reduction. They say the word not be any

:04:28. > :04:32.redundancies. My concern is how that works. They say it is to do with

:04:33. > :04:36.distribution but we need confirmation as to how that works.

:04:37. > :04:45.Unite the union have been clear that there are questions needing

:04:46. > :04:47.answered. Ford are leading a global marketplace and people are concerned

:04:48. > :04:53.as to what that means for the Bridgend usual. Did anyone see this

:04:54. > :04:56.coming? There has been concern for quite some time. I think it has to

:04:57. > :05:01.be said. They add a latter here sent from the company ultimately to the

:05:02. > :05:06.workers talking about Howden and has not been as great as they expected

:05:07. > :05:12.when a medicine as that the 180 LE pounds in the first place. That was

:05:13. > :05:15.only last year. -- ?180 million. A lot of people welcomed it because it

:05:16. > :05:21.did give comfort about the future of Ford in Bridgend. It only allowed

:05:22. > :05:24.for a third of the engines to be made that are currently made there.

:05:25. > :05:28.They still had to go out and get bomb is this and now we see they're

:05:29. > :05:36.only getting half the business they once thought. -- get more business.

:05:37. > :05:40.It has to compete against three other European Ford plans to get the

:05:41. > :05:43.business in the first place and now it has to do that again. That is why

:05:44. > :05:50.unions are so concerned about the long-term future. Eat as posted.

:05:51. > :05:52.Thank you. Now, the rest of the day's news.

:05:53. > :05:56.The organisers of Festival Number six in Portmeirion have finally

:05:57. > :05:58.broken their silence to defend their decision to site

:05:59. > :06:00.a park-and-ride facility on a known flood plain

:06:01. > :06:01.after hundreds of vehicles became stuck.

:06:02. > :06:04.Scores of music fans were stranded and had to spend the night

:06:05. > :06:19.And so it goes on, fewer than 100 cars left on the site now.

:06:20. > :06:28.Gwynedd Council say they have warned of

:06:29. > :06:31.flood risk over a number of years and this is what Natural Resources

:06:32. > :06:43.together makes this area somewhere that is risky when it comes to

:06:44. > :06:46.But today, the festival organisers said they have been

:06:47. > :06:48.victims of the weather, not bad planning.

:06:49. > :06:48.People build houses on

:06:49. > :06:52.That's not to say that we shouldn't use it.

:06:53. > :06:54.The use of this has been going on for four

:06:55. > :06:56.years and it's not a decision that we take lightly.

:06:57. > :07:00.It's done as part of a multi-agency decision.

:07:01. > :07:08.We attend safety advisory group meetings.

:07:09. > :07:22.Over the past few years Festival Number Six has built for

:07:23. > :07:28.itself a huge reputation but performing line-ups to match these

:07:29. > :07:43.I didn't think I need a canoe to get my car.

:07:44. > :07:44.The Festival organisers, well, what an

:07:45. > :07:46.absolute bunch of incompetent idiots.

:07:47. > :07:50.They get washed the car off and the driver will but I'm carrying

:07:51. > :08:02.so pulled in and I'm waiting on the AA now to take the home.

:08:03. > :08:05.The organisers say they are talking to

:08:06. > :08:08.Beth Hall has come from Manchester to collect her

:08:09. > :08:15.He was told it would be a two-day wait to get it out.

:08:16. > :08:16.We have come back from Manchester, driven

:08:17. > :08:19.back, and they will be done of his car this morning

:08:20. > :08:28.You can view much of the car park site has been

:08:29. > :08:31.I have the organisers will they had an alternative, a

:08:32. > :08:35.They said they had but it was problematic and had to be

:08:36. > :08:38.For now, there is more work for the tractors.

:08:39. > :08:40.The organisers say they will be back next year.

:08:41. > :08:44.A 57-year-old man from Flint has been charged

:08:45. > :08:46.with the murder and rape of a

:08:47. > :09:00.More than 100 leased offices were involved in the investigation. --

:09:01. > :09:01.police officers. Stephen Anthony Huff

:09:02. > :09:03.is expected to appear North Wales Police say he wasn't

:09:04. > :09:07.arrested when the original investigation took

:09:08. > :09:08.place in the 1970s. A man accused of murdering his

:09:09. > :09:11.ex-girlfriend has told a jury at Swansea Crown Court

:09:12. > :09:14.it was she who attacked him. 27-year-old Natasha Bradbury died

:09:15. > :09:17.in her flat in Haverfordwest in The prosecution claim Luke Jones,

:09:18. > :09:21.who's 33, beat her to death in a jealous rage after finding out

:09:22. > :09:24.she had been with another man. But Mr Jones, from Milford Haven,

:09:25. > :09:32.said Natasha tried to headbutt him. Earlier this year, Cardiff signed

:09:33. > :09:34.a so-called City Deal to secure a billion pounds for big

:09:35. > :09:36.infrastructure projects and regeneration in

:09:37. > :09:38.and around the capital. Now, local authorities

:09:39. > :09:40.in North Wales want one too - A futuristic view of South Wales

:09:41. > :09:52.connected by a more integrated transport network of trains

:09:53. > :09:54.and trams could soon be a reality thanks to a billion

:09:55. > :09:57.pound investment as part A vision of 2035 has been drawn up

:09:58. > :10:08.in North Wales which shows that businesses and councils there can

:10:09. > :10:17.achieve more by joining forces. Businesses have confidence. They can

:10:18. > :10:26.succeed here. I think that is happening. Not just any enterprise

:10:27. > :10:30.in Flintshire, which is very successful, but elsewhere we have

:10:31. > :10:34.big business parks. Also bringing in businesses further west and across

:10:35. > :10:40.the whole of north Wales. This group of businesses has got together to

:10:41. > :10:44.compile a wish list, and ultimate shopping list of things in north

:10:45. > :10:47.Wales needs to put it on a level playing field with places like

:10:48. > :10:48.Cardiff. It could take many years to get what they want and it won't come

:10:49. > :10:48.cheap. The main demands are

:10:49. > :10:52.improving the road Promoting business

:10:53. > :10:55.growth and innovation - and supporting bigger

:10:56. > :10:57.firms like Airbus. And increasing the level

:10:58. > :10:59.of skill among the workforce All this could, the group says,

:11:00. > :11:01.improve economic output from 12.8 billion pounds to around

:11:02. > :11:04.20 billion by 2035 creating And there have been calls

:11:05. > :11:11.for the region to be given more powers to take control

:11:12. > :11:18.over its affairs. This is a partnership between

:11:19. > :11:24.Government and local authorities in north Wales because in other parts

:11:25. > :11:28.of England, they are a phenomenon. We want local authorities in Wales

:11:29. > :11:31.to work together to make proposals which we are receiving and have

:11:32. > :11:33.received today. Both will be assessed in the context of what it

:11:34. > :11:34.brings to the north Wales economy. But some believe the investment

:11:35. > :11:42.should be the priority. You have to set the agenda in terms

:11:43. > :11:45.of what you want to achieve and then work back from that in terms of

:11:46. > :11:48.value will achieve it. Hacking preparatory gulley is the wrong

:11:49. > :11:54.thing to do and we haven't done that. -- asking for power

:11:55. > :11:55.straightaway. You have to work out how to get there.

:11:56. > :11:57.The plan will be discussed by local authorities

:11:58. > :12:00.in north Wales over the coming weeks before it goes to the Welsh

:12:01. > :12:06.A company owned by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has been

:12:07. > :12:08.criticised by a union, for using what it describes as

:12:09. > :12:16.Amgen Cymru near Aberdare process waste for local authorities.

:12:17. > :12:19.The GMB Union says agency workers at the site

:12:20. > :12:22.are being sent home at short notice and are afraid of speaking out

:12:23. > :12:27.On strike in the 1960s but are some of those kind of working practices

:12:28. > :12:35.The GMB union is unhappy with the treatment of

:12:36. > :12:37.agency staff here at Amgen Cymru, near Aberdare, which processes

:12:38. > :12:46.I'm hearing of employees turn up to work in this organisation,

:12:47. > :12:49.working for an hour and are being tapped on the shoulder to be sent

:12:50. > :12:51.home with no pay because they filled their quota.

:12:52. > :13:00.It shouldn't happen in a 21st-century.

:13:01. > :13:04.Rhondda Cynon Taff council set up Amgen Cymru back in

:13:05. > :13:07.the 1990s but the council pays Amgen for service.

:13:08. > :13:09.Amgen employ some of its workers through an agency, Smart

:13:10. > :13:13.That agency also used another company to pay staff in

:13:14. > :13:16.The union said this is confusing for workers.

:13:17. > :13:26.It says some were told to pay for replacement

:13:27. > :13:28.equipment, told to pay for copies of pay slips

:13:29. > :13:32.insurance payments because they were paid partly in expenses.

:13:33. > :13:34.The agency which supply staff here said this is

:13:35. > :13:36.the first it has ever heard of any concerns

:13:37. > :13:43.It says it has never charged employees for a payslip and only

:13:44. > :13:45.charges for personal protection equipment if it's repeatedly

:13:46. > :13:52.The company said it always complies with all the

:13:53. > :13:54.relevant employment rules and there is no suggestion that it has done

:13:55. > :13:59.They say they're holding surgeries with

:14:00. > :14:03.employees at the site to understand their concerns.

:14:04. > :14:05.They moved from the public sector to the private sector

:14:06. > :14:19.more creativity perhaps and changes to terms and conditions.

:14:20. > :14:22.Some of these could be for the benefit of employees

:14:23. > :14:25.but, at the same time, human labour is one of the biggest costs

:14:26. > :14:28.Rhondda Cynon Taff council said contracts are a matter for Amgen

:14:29. > :14:31.as it is a privately run company but the council also said it

:14:32. > :14:33.received reassurances about the matters the

:14:34. > :14:42.Newell watching Wales to day from the BBC.

:14:43. > :14:46.Why the future of salmon fishing in some of our

:14:47. > :14:59.And can our Paralympic and is smashed attitudes as well as records

:15:00. > :15:07.when the games begin to roll? -- tomorrow.

:15:08. > :15:22.Wales has seen its great deal of mines closing and industrial

:15:23. > :15:28.industries demise. Wales want to try and protect this. There is a

:15:29. > :15:31.long-term plan to protect poverty. Here is our political correspondence

:15:32. > :15:38.and Davies. Ronnie closure over coal mines to the loss of 400 jobs when

:15:39. > :15:41.this oil refinery close in Pembrokeshire. Wales has had its

:15:42. > :15:47.fair share of economic shocks. To Port Talbot the next with

:15:48. > :15:50.uncertainty hanging over the huge Tata Steelworks, the offers every

:15:51. > :15:55.report have this message for the Welsh and UK governments. Port

:15:56. > :15:59.Talbot is one of the places in the UK which has been knocked off its

:16:00. > :16:03.lead by globalisation and massive economics. We have got to organise

:16:04. > :16:10.and what a place like Port Talbot. We call on people in Wales and UK to

:16:11. > :16:14.work with industry and community to make sure this place does not suffer

:16:15. > :16:21.as badly as others have. Other places, like Ebbw Vale, it was

:16:22. > :16:27.sustained by your works until it closed 14 years ago. Mike was an

:16:28. > :16:32.elocution at the deal works but when work there finished, he started a

:16:33. > :16:35.career teaching the guitar. It has gone downhill since the work has

:16:36. > :16:42.gone but it's difficult to blame it all on the closure. The closure of a

:16:43. > :16:48.big lad like that has multiple knock on effects. Whether financial all

:16:49. > :16:51.what it is bring back injury means you. The old dear work site has been

:16:52. > :16:57.redeveloped and the Welsh Government has declared ever there will have an

:16:58. > :17:04.enterprise zone. Robinson says. The county comes out at the bottom --

:17:05. > :17:09.problems persist. There is a sense of frustration that, despite the

:17:10. > :17:16.money stand, it has not made up for the loss of Ebbw Vale's steelworks.

:17:17. > :17:23.Your mac there was a buzz at one time. Different shops and now it is

:17:24. > :17:31.pound shops. It was like a community before but now it is gone. It is not

:17:32. > :17:35.the same. I really think that it will happen in Port Talbot as well.

:17:36. > :17:38.The Government said it was committed to building a country that works for

:17:39. > :17:42.everyone, no matter their background. The Welsh dominant sex

:17:43. > :17:52.education, creating jobs and creating skilled and top priorities

:17:53. > :17:55.-- -- the Welsh Government say education.

:17:56. > :17:57.The future of salmon fishing in some of our best loved

:17:58. > :18:01.Experts say the number of young fish in some rivers has reached

:18:02. > :18:05.Our reporter Colette Hume is on the banks of the River Usk

:18:06. > :18:19.Well, Janie, this river behind me, at any angle, they will tell you

:18:20. > :18:23.that it is one of the best places in salmon fishing. It is one of the

:18:24. > :18:28.Welsh rivers where the number of young salmon has reached a critical

:18:29. > :18:36.load. Experts are trying to find out right before it is too late. -- low.

:18:37. > :18:39.The salmon, the king of the river. But for how long? Now and critically

:18:40. > :18:46.low levels in what were some of the country but most abundant rivers.

:18:47. > :18:53.Experts say routine monitoring has suggested that the levels are at an

:18:54. > :18:59.all-time low. The reason for the decline any numbers is a complete

:19:00. > :19:02.mystery. There is now a real the decline good half the biodiversity

:19:03. > :19:06.of our rivers and have an impact on tourism. Wales is seen by many as

:19:07. > :19:11.one of the best places are salmon fishing in Britain. This is

:19:12. > :19:16.unprecedented. This reduction in abundance of fish. Of course, these

:19:17. > :19:20.are the fish which, in three or four years' time, will you be salmon

:19:21. > :19:23.returning to our rivers to repopulate them and other spot to

:19:24. > :19:27.some fishermen. We are urging a lot of restraint on anglers at the

:19:28. > :19:31.moment because the stocks are under pressure throughout. Experts are now

:19:32. > :19:36.trying to find out why the dogs of young fish have fallen. And stop the

:19:37. > :19:40.numbers from falling even further. If they can't, the future of salmon

:19:41. > :19:45.fishing in some of Wales' best loved rivers could be in doubt. Well, the

:19:46. > :19:50.pressure really is on the experts to find out what is going on. For the

:19:51. > :19:52.moment at least, it remained an environmental mystery. Thank you.

:19:53. > :19:54.Tonight's sport now - including all the reaction to Wales'

:19:55. > :20:00.Wales' football manager Chris Coleman has paid

:20:01. > :20:02.tribute to Gareth Bale, after the Real Madrid forward scored

:20:03. > :20:04.twice in last night's 4-0 victory over Moldova -

:20:05. > :20:16.Bale is now within four goals of Ian Rush's all-time record of 28.

:20:17. > :20:19.The journey to the World Cup in Russia started with a win

:20:20. > :20:22.Chris Coleman's men will encounter better sides than

:20:23. > :20:33.Sam Vokes made the most of his place and Gareth Bale

:20:34. > :20:35.will break the goal-scoring record held by Ian Rush.

:20:36. > :20:38.He may know that he's four goalsaway.

:20:39. > :20:40.He won't think that he has to beat him in this

:20:41. > :20:43.campaign, he'll just go on and do what he does.

:20:44. > :20:45.There is every chance that, in my opinion, he can do

:20:46. > :20:50.Having not scored a competitive international goals in

:20:51. > :20:54.eight years before his clincher against Belgium in the summer, Sam

:20:55. > :20:56.Vokes got his second in three games last night.

:20:57. > :21:00.and I think it helps that they view of the next ones

:21:01. > :21:04.important that we keep this run going.

:21:05. > :21:05.While the opposition was

:21:06. > :21:10.weak, scoring four times is an achievement.

:21:11. > :21:13.They hadn't managed more than two goals in a game in

:21:14. > :21:23.The ball blindly played backwards by Moldova.
