:00:00. > :00:14.They want out of the EU now, but Labour and Plaid Cymru

:00:15. > :00:16.unveil their plan for Brexit, insisting Wales must stay

:00:17. > :00:29.This is a combo key to divorce and as with all divorces, the detail has

:00:30. > :00:32.to be worked through and got right. Tonight UKIP dismiss

:00:33. > :00:34.Labour and Plaid's plan as a white flag of surrender

:00:35. > :00:48.to EU negotiators. Killed by a gunman

:00:49. > :00:50.on a Tunisian beach. Trudy Jones from Blackwood died

:00:51. > :00:52.from a single gunshot wound ?36 million for our youngest

:00:53. > :01:00.pupils to cut class sizes. All aboard for Wales'

:01:01. > :01:10.first bus summit - the country's coach operators

:01:11. > :01:12.try to map out a better service. Their most

:01:13. > :01:16.important three points Is this the victory that kick-starts

:01:17. > :01:22.Swansea City's season? Out of the drop zone, after

:01:23. > :01:29.a thrilling win over Liverpool. The First Minister and the leader

:01:30. > :01:33.of Plaid Cymru have today Carwyn Jones and Leanne Wood want

:01:34. > :01:37.the UK to continue to participate And they say workers from other

:01:38. > :01:46.European countries should be free But Ukip say today's White Paper

:01:47. > :01:56.is a white flag to Brussels. Here's our political

:01:57. > :02:07.correspondent Daniel Davies. Calling time on the UK's

:02:08. > :02:11.membership of the EU. Campaigners in Westminster

:02:12. > :02:12.today demanding a sharp Also there, but treading more

:02:13. > :02:16.slowly, Carwyn Jones and Leanne After Brexit, the First Minister

:02:17. > :02:19.wants to stay in this single market, so Welsh businesses

:02:20. > :02:23.don't face new barriers to trade. Well, what we are trying to do is to

:02:24. > :02:26.try to produce something that we believe will command the support

:02:27. > :02:29.of the majority of people, including the majority of people

:02:30. > :02:31.who voted to leave. When we leave the EU,

:02:32. > :02:36.we will also make sure we do not This is a complicated

:02:37. > :02:40.divorce and as with all divorces, the detail has to be

:02:41. > :02:42.worked through and got right. Outside the EU,

:02:43. > :02:48.in the single market. It accepts the EU rules

:02:49. > :02:50.on the free movement of people and workers should continue

:02:51. > :02:54.to enjoy the right to come to the UK after Brexit, Mr Jones says,

:02:55. > :02:57.if there is a job for them. Labour promised to talk

:02:58. > :03:04.to Plaid Cymru after failing to win a majority in last

:03:05. > :03:08.year's Assembly election. I would, as the leader

:03:09. > :03:10.Plaid Cymru, reject the premise that immigration

:03:11. > :03:13.is the cause of all our ills. It has been presented

:03:14. > :03:17.as that by some, but it isn't actually when you look at the

:03:18. > :03:20.facts and the evidence, the numbers But Theresa May has

:03:21. > :03:26.a different agenda and in her big Brexit speech last week,

:03:27. > :03:29.she said she wanted to reclaim But I want to be clear,

:03:30. > :03:37.what I am proposing cannot mean membership

:03:38. > :03:41.of the single market. She and the First Minister disagree

:03:42. > :03:43.on other things, too. No more vast payments

:03:44. > :03:46.to the EU, says But the Welsh Government

:03:47. > :03:56.says it's worth paying Mrs May says the devolved

:03:57. > :03:59.assembly won't lose power after Brexit,

:04:00. > :04:01.but the Welsh Government has called for changes

:04:02. > :04:02.to And the UK Government says it wants

:04:03. > :04:07.to guarantee the rights of EU citizens living here,

:04:08. > :04:09.but the Welsh Government says that We believe that we can get access

:04:10. > :04:15.to the single market. We are optimistic,

:04:16. > :04:19.we are ambitious, but of course, holding onto

:04:20. > :04:20.bits of being member of the European Union can

:04:21. > :04:22.to be the case, because

:04:23. > :04:24.by being a member of the single market,

:04:25. > :04:25.we have to except free movement of people

:04:26. > :04:28.and it is frustration and anger sometimes about the free movement

:04:29. > :04:31.of people that has led to many people voting to leave

:04:32. > :04:33.the European Union. Neil Hamilton, Ukip's

:04:34. > :04:41.leader in the Assembly. Unimpressed by the proposals

:04:42. > :04:47.of these to Remain campaigners. It's not so much

:04:48. > :04:51.a white paper, but a white flag of surrender to the EU

:04:52. > :04:54.before the negotiations have If Theresa May were to

:04:55. > :05:01.take this blueprint to Brussels, then the EU would get

:05:02. > :05:04.everything that they wanted and it would mean that we weren't actually

:05:05. > :05:07.leaving the EU in any meaningful Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru

:05:08. > :05:19.say they respect the referendum vote to leave,

:05:20. > :05:24.but they have made clear their preferred Brexit would change

:05:25. > :05:30.things as little as possible. Our parliamentary correspondent

:05:31. > :05:32.David Cornock is in Westminser. David, what do you think Theresa May

:05:33. > :05:43.and those negotiating Britain's exit It was slightly unusual today to see

:05:44. > :05:47.to Welsh political opponents come to Westminster to launch this official

:05:48. > :05:53.Welsh Government document. Slightly unusual, too, as he saw there to

:05:54. > :05:57.have the leader of the UK in Wales heckling in the audience. You might

:05:58. > :06:01.think the timing is also a bit odd, because this comes less than six

:06:02. > :06:04.days, less than a week, after we had to have the leader of the UK in

:06:05. > :06:07.Wales heckling in the audience. You might think the timing is also a bit

:06:08. > :06:10.odd, because this comes less than six days, less than a week, after we

:06:11. > :06:12.heard Theresa May rule out membership of the single market. A

:06:13. > :06:14.clear difference there with the Welsh Government and if the Welsh

:06:15. > :06:17.Government is going to get its way, this is going to do anything other

:06:18. > :06:20.than gather dust, they will have to clearly convinced the Prime Minister

:06:21. > :06:25.to change her mind. The indications are that once Theresa May makes up

:06:26. > :06:31.her mind, she is not really one for changing it. This document will be

:06:32. > :06:34.discussed in a meeting with other devolved ministers and UK ministers

:06:35. > :06:39.earlier this month. Before then, tomorrow, we will get the result

:06:40. > :06:43.from the Supreme Court, which will decide whether MPs have to pass a

:06:44. > :06:47.new lobby for the Brexit talks can begin on the Welsh Government as

:06:48. > :06:50.part of that process. It thinks that assembly members should have a say

:06:51. > :06:54.An inquest into the death of a woman from Blackwood,

:06:55. > :06:56.who was killed by an islamist gunman on a Tunisian beach,

:06:57. > :07:00.has heard she died from a single gunshot wound to her neck and chest.

:07:01. > :07:02.Trudy Jones was one of 30 Britons killed at a resort

:07:03. > :07:06.The inquest into their deaths is taking place at the Royal Courts

:07:07. > :07:23.Judy Jones children arriving at a court in Cardiff today to watch the

:07:24. > :07:31.inquest via video link and to get answers about why their mother died

:07:32. > :07:39.on a beach in Tunisia. She was targeted by Islamist who began his

:07:40. > :07:44.murderous rampage on the beach. The inquest has been shown this map of

:07:45. > :07:48.his movements made by British police. On the day, there is a

:07:49. > :07:56.protein is the police response and persecuted. He prowled the grounds

:07:57. > :08:04.and carders of a nearby hotel. He killed 38 people, including 30

:08:05. > :08:09.Britons. Today, we learned that Mrs Jones died from a single gunshot

:08:10. > :08:13.wound to her neck and chest. The gunman was eventually killed. Her

:08:14. > :08:18.family through to BBC Wales last year after a service at Westminster

:08:19. > :08:22.Abbey. I can't believe this has happened in our lives. She was edgy

:08:23. > :08:29.treasure, always will be. I love her and miss her dearly every second of

:08:30. > :08:32.my life. She was wonderful. We go round and round, why did she do

:08:33. > :08:38.that? What if she had done that? What if she was in the pool? None of

:08:39. > :08:43.us have dealt with it. We can't change it. The court was shown as

:08:44. > :08:50.3-D animation of the resort. Each person was shown where they were

:08:51. > :08:55.shot. The inquest heard there was chaos during the attack. Carol

:08:56. > :09:02.Powell who was on holiday with Judy Jones, was at the pool, Trudy was at

:09:03. > :09:07.the beach. She described a terrible explosion and gunfire. She began to

:09:08. > :09:13.run. She eventually played out in a car park to save her own life. She

:09:14. > :09:18.says she identified Trudy's body from her distinctive male varnish.

:09:19. > :09:22.Trudy Jones worked in this care home. The bench has been placed here

:09:23. > :09:30.as a memorial. She dedicated her life to helping others. Today the

:09:31. > :09:33.inquest heard she made a positive impact on everybody. Hundreds of

:09:34. > :09:36.people attended her funeral in Blackwood. Her family say her death

:09:37. > :09:37.was an act of senseless violence. Her family say her death was an act

:09:38. > :09:40.of senseless violence. A woman who plotted to let

:09:41. > :09:42.a paedophile rape her seven-year-old daughter has been

:09:43. > :09:44.jailed for nine years The woman, who can't be

:09:45. > :09:47.named for legal reasons, to protect her daughter's identity,

:09:48. > :09:50.made plans via text messages He was jailed for 13 years,

:09:51. > :09:54.after the pair were found guilty A man who released cats

:09:55. > :10:02.from an animal sanctuary so his dogs could hunt them down and kill them

:10:03. > :10:05.has been sentenced to 30 months Swansea Crown Court heard

:10:06. > :10:08.18-year-old Frank Lewis stole ten cats from Ty Nant sanctuary

:10:09. > :10:10.in the Afan Valley, Lewis admitted burglary and criminal

:10:11. > :10:20.damage at an earlier hearing. How many children should

:10:21. > :10:22.be taught in a class? It's a regular concern

:10:23. > :10:24.for teachers and parents. Now a ?36 million fund

:10:25. > :10:27.is being set up, with the aim of reducing class sizes for children

:10:28. > :10:29.who are seven and under. Starting with the largest classes,

:10:30. > :10:32.the new money will be targeted at schools where there are high

:10:33. > :10:35.levels of deprivation and low Our education correspondent

:10:36. > :10:38.Colette Hume has the story. Our education correspondent

:10:39. > :10:46.Colette Hume has the story. In this primary school in Swansea,

:10:47. > :10:48.these children are in the foundation It's one of many schools in Wales

:10:49. > :10:53.with large infant classes. Think it would be really beneficial

:10:54. > :10:56.to have smaller classes and I think you would be far more effective

:10:57. > :10:59.for children to learn if there were The new ?36 million fund

:11:00. > :11:03.aims to reduce class Education Secretary Kirsty Williams

:11:04. > :11:06.says parents and teachers have Listening to teachers and parents,

:11:07. > :11:10.we know that class sizes are a major concern for them and there

:11:11. > :11:13.is growing evidence to suggest by targeting money anyway

:11:14. > :11:15.that they are doing, it will make a difference

:11:16. > :11:16.to At the moment, just

:11:17. > :11:28.over 8,000 infants children are taught in classes

:11:29. > :11:31.of more than 30 here in Wales. The money will be

:11:32. > :11:33.targeted at the biggest classes first and then

:11:34. > :11:35.at schools with high levels of deprivation

:11:36. > :11:36.or schools which have a significant

:11:37. > :11:38.number of children with Children like Wills and Lexie,

:11:39. > :11:46.who both have cerebral palsy. Their parents have

:11:47. > :11:52.welcomed the decision. Smaller class sizes for him

:11:53. > :11:55.would mean he'd be able to get I think it would reduce

:11:56. > :11:58.behaviours in the class, so teachers would have more time

:11:59. > :12:01.to focus on teaching. I think the tutor would have

:12:02. > :12:04.more quality time with children, being able

:12:05. > :12:08.to support them better. I think it would ease the burden

:12:09. > :12:11.and the workload for that But today's announcement

:12:12. > :12:19.hasn't been met with The Welsh Conservatives

:12:20. > :12:23.say there isn't enough spent on recruiting new teachers

:12:24. > :12:28.and improving school leadership. The teaching union ITAC has urged

:12:29. > :12:31.Welsh Government to go further and reduce the size of all

:12:32. > :12:36.classes in all age groups. I think with the statement

:12:37. > :12:38.we have had this morning, we would like to call

:12:39. > :12:41.on the Government to put 25 as a statutory limit for

:12:42. > :12:43.class sizes in Wales. Local authorities will now be able

:12:44. > :12:46.to bid for funding, which will be spread over the next four years

:12:47. > :12:49.and is limited to infant pupils. The question now is,

:12:50. > :12:51.will smaller class sizes make a real difference to how

:12:52. > :13:09.well our youngest children learn? Tomorrow we will bring you the

:13:10. > :13:13.annual report card on the state of our schools from the inspection

:13:14. > :13:16.We'll have more on that at 6:30pm tomorrow.

:13:17. > :13:19.A community regeneration project in Port Talbot has had its funding

:13:20. > :13:21.terminated by the Welsh Government, following an investigation that

:13:22. > :13:22.provided strong evidence of financial irregularities.

:13:23. > :13:25.NSA Afan had provided a variety of services for people

:13:26. > :13:27.in the most disadvantaged areas of Neath Port Talbot as part

:13:28. > :13:31.Our reporter Ben Price is there for us this evening.

:13:32. > :13:50.It is a charity based here in the sand feels area of Port Talbot and

:13:51. > :13:54.it had been funded by the Welsh Government to deliver communities

:13:55. > :13:58.first programmes. Before Christmas, the charity had its funding

:13:59. > :14:02.suspended amid allegations of a misuse of public money. Today the

:14:03. > :14:06.Cabinet Secretary for communities announced that that funding has been

:14:07. > :14:10.stopped following a Welsh Government investigation, which he said found

:14:11. > :14:13.strong evidence of financial irregularities and raise questions

:14:14. > :14:20.about the charity 's ability to manage public money. Now South Wales

:14:21. > :14:25.Police has also carried out its own separate investigation and as a

:14:26. > :14:28.result of that if you weeks ago, a 35-year-old woman was arrested and

:14:29. > :14:33.bailed on suspicion of theft. We do not know how whether that Welsh

:14:34. > :14:37.Government investigation and the decision today has anything to do

:14:38. > :14:40.with the police and their own separate investigation. What I can

:14:41. > :14:46.say is this is clearly a big load the community and having spoke

:14:47. > :14:49.earlier with two of the chief executives of the council, he told

:14:50. > :14:52.me they will be working closely with the Welsh Government to see whether

:14:53. > :14:55.or not some of these services can be provided in future. Keep us posted.

:14:56. > :15:01.There's not been much to cheer about for Swansea City fan,

:15:02. > :15:04.but could their stunning win over Liverpool be the start of a revival?

:15:05. > :15:07.And the lost film from childhood, which inspired the director who went

:15:08. > :15:20.on to work on The Italian Job, James Bond and Superman.

:15:21. > :15:23.Bus travel is big business in Wales, which is why the first

:15:24. > :15:28.Bus Summit has been held today to improve the service.

:15:29. > :15:34.At the moment, it's worth ?80 million a year to the economy,

:15:35. > :15:37.with around 4,000 people working in the sector.

:15:38. > :15:40.And there's 105 million passengers using buses every year.

:15:41. > :15:43.It's part of a five point plan to help the industry,

:15:44. > :15:46.which was shaken by the collapse of several firms last year.

:15:47. > :15:48.When Wrexham-based GHA coaches went out of business last

:15:49. > :15:51.July, 300 jobs were lost and services were disrupted.

:15:52. > :15:53.Other firms took over most, but some routes, like the 146

:15:54. > :15:56.between Richurch and Wrexham, saw a large drop in frequency.

:15:57. > :15:59.I've come to the Rainbow Centre in Penley, one of the stops

:16:00. > :16:01.along the 146 route, to find out how people

:16:02. > :16:04.in the surrounding communities have been affected by the reduction in

:16:05. > :16:08.bus services from 11 to just four a day.

:16:09. > :16:12.There's a bus every ten minutes from Wrexham to Chester.

:16:13. > :16:16.Who's going to be on all of those buses?

:16:17. > :16:26.One of the main arterial routes into Wrexham and

:16:27. > :16:30.there should be a decent bus service to reflect that.

:16:31. > :16:34.Some thought needs to go into it now about a timetable

:16:35. > :16:39.that is appropriate, really, for people's needs.

:16:40. > :16:43.The Bus Summit is one of five steps the Welsh Government reccommended

:16:44. > :16:46.to strengthen the industry and prevent disruption to routes

:16:47. > :16:49.It's also appointing bus co-ordinators in

:16:50. > :16:55.North and South Wales to develop good practice.

:16:56. > :16:57.73% of journeys on buses are carried out on a

:16:58. > :17:01.That still means that almost a quarter of passenger

:17:02. > :17:02.journeys are carried out on the concessionary basis.

:17:03. > :17:06.I want to make sure that we get more passengers on those

:17:07. > :17:10.buses to drive up the sustainability of them.

:17:11. > :17:13.But one of the Welsh Government schemes to give discounted bus

:17:14. > :17:16.travel to 16-18 year olds will come to an end in March.

:17:17. > :17:19.Back in Penley, one student feels like she's missing out.

:17:20. > :17:21.All my friends go to college and they obviously can get

:17:22. > :17:24.to Wrexham really easily from where they live and making go

:17:25. > :17:26.backwards and forwards whenever they want,

:17:27. > :17:29.which is something we can't have here at all.

:17:30. > :17:32.Industry leaders at the summit say they need support if they're to give

:17:33. > :17:39.Bus operators, to give certainty, need to understand that

:17:40. > :17:42.funding is going to be available, in the medium to long term.

:17:43. > :17:44.They need to understand what is going on on

:17:45. > :17:46.the highways, what the congestion will be like.

:17:47. > :17:49.And all these things need to come together if we are really

:17:50. > :17:51.going to deliver excellent bus services day in, day out.

:17:52. > :17:54.More financial help is being made available to councils and bus

:17:55. > :17:57.operators if they can come up with robust plans to provide a fair

:17:58. > :18:02.All roads lead to tonight's sport now with Claire.

:18:03. > :18:05.It's their most important win in their

:18:06. > :18:08.Premier League history, that's according to the former Wales

:18:09. > :18:09.striker Iwan Roberts, after Swansea City lifted themselves

:18:10. > :18:12.out of the Premier League drop zone following a thrilling

:18:13. > :18:16.Coach Paul Clement says he's now looking to strengthen his squad

:18:17. > :18:18.further before the transfer window shuts a week tomorrow.

:18:19. > :18:26.COMMENTATOR: Carroll is into the penalty area.

:18:27. > :18:38.COMMENTATOR: Paul Clement has led Swansea to their

:18:39. > :18:54.Not many sites coming, Swansea favourites to get relegated before

:18:55. > :18:58.the game, now there is renewed hope they can survive. Their most

:18:59. > :19:01.important three points in their Premier League history. I have seen

:19:02. > :19:06.them win at Old Trafford, on a couple of occasions at the Emirates,

:19:07. > :19:11.but to go to Liverpool, never won there in the week before and come

:19:12. > :19:18.away with three points, it was an outstanding defensive performance.

:19:19. > :19:24.Swansea had just three chances on target. They scored three times. His

:19:25. > :19:29.side, the first to be Liverpool at Anfield in the 18 league games. No

:19:30. > :19:34.doubt who are the most popular at the club shop having been linked

:19:35. > :19:40.with other clubs, both these players say they expect to stay. Cigarettes

:19:41. > :19:48.and is the glue that holds the team together. We need to add to the

:19:49. > :19:53.squad, not take away. We were really chuffed that they won and they came

:19:54. > :19:59.out now at the bottom so hopefully they can keep going up now. Swansea

:20:00. > :20:03.city don't play again until a week tomorrow. That's when Southampton

:20:04. > :20:07.will be the visitors here. The same night as transfer deadline day.
