:00:00. > :00:00.Welcome to Wales Today - our headlines tonight:

:00:00. > :00:00.The house near Carmarthen searched after the London Terror attacks

:00:00. > :00:12.belongs to the mother of the man responsible.

:00:13. > :00:14.To have the Metropolitan Police here is something unheard

:00:15. > :00:17.of and something we hopefully won't have too see again

:00:18. > :00:19.but sympathy is the main word and the main feeling

:00:20. > :00:39.Carwyn Jones warns Labour may not deliver the results hoped

:00:40. > :00:46.for in the party's big test - May's council elections.

:00:47. > :00:48.The businesses who work along the M4 make their case

:00:49. > :00:54.Ukele lessons for year six and more money for councils

:00:55. > :01:06.Will it make up for all the cuts to music services?

:01:07. > :01:10.It's a sell-out stadium for a crucial World Cup qualifier.

:01:11. > :01:13.Can Wales beat the Republic of Ireland and close the gap

:01:14. > :01:21.It's emerged that a house near Carmarthen searched

:01:22. > :01:23.after the London terror attacks belongs to the mother

:01:24. > :01:28.Police say the search in Trelech is now over and the mother and step

:01:29. > :01:30.father of Khalid Masood, are not being treated as suspects.

:01:31. > :01:34.Tonight a candlelight vigil is being held outside the Senedd

:01:35. > :01:48.Officers have been guarding the property of Janet

:01:49. > :01:50.and Philip Ajoa in Trelech since the search by the Wales

:01:51. > :01:51.counterterrorism unit, alongside Dyfed-Powys Police.

:01:52. > :01:54.It is understood specialist officers went to the rural

:01:55. > :01:56.farmhouse in the early hours of yesterday morning.

:01:57. > :02:06.There were also raids in London and Birmingham.

:02:07. > :02:08.I would like to appeal specifically to the public, we remain keen

:02:09. > :02:13.Anybody who understands all his associates were,

:02:14. > :02:15.anyone who can provide information about the places he has

:02:16. > :02:27.It is believed that Janet Ajao is the mother of Khaled Masood,

:02:28. > :02:30.born as Adrian Russell Elms, later Adrian Russell Ajoa, the man

:02:31. > :02:32.responsible for the terrorist attack in Westminster on Wednesday

:02:33. > :02:34.afternoon, which killed five people and 50 people injured.

:02:35. > :02:37.Janet and Philip Ajoa have lived at this property on the outskirts

:02:38. > :02:45.We have been told that they moved to the area from Tunbridge Wells

:02:46. > :02:48.and were private people who lived a quiet life here.

:02:49. > :02:51.It is understood Janet kept a rare breed of sheep and sold meat

:02:52. > :02:57.We have been told that Philip Ajoa is being treated for cancer.

:02:58. > :02:59.Local people have told us they weren't in contact

:03:00. > :03:02.with their son and he had not been seen in the area.

:03:03. > :03:04.Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police have been at this isolated

:03:05. > :03:08.They say that the search has now been completed and the occupants

:03:09. > :03:17.They also say they are receiving the appropriate support.

:03:18. > :03:19.We were initially made aware of the situation late

:03:20. > :03:21.yesterday afternoon, that the Metropolitan Police

:03:22. > :03:33.were investigating some wearing Carmarthenshire.

:03:34. > :03:37.However, little did we know then that it was right on our doorsteps.

:03:38. > :03:39.We found out late last night that it was just actually outside

:03:40. > :03:41.the village of Trelech where the investigation

:03:42. > :03:46.At first it was a great shock, but as the day has gone on today,

:03:47. > :03:48.I think there is a great feeling of sympathy amongst the

:03:49. > :03:51.neighbourhood and the surrounding area towards Mr and Mrs Ajoa.

:03:52. > :03:54.Dyfed-Powys Police have emphasised that there is no threat to the local

:03:55. > :04:01.area and nobody has been arrested following the search.

:04:02. > :04:06.Tonight, a candlelit vigil was held outside the Senedd to remember those

:04:07. > :04:09.who died in the attack, the effects of which have been felt

:04:10. > :04:12.First Minister Carwyn Jones has admitted that Labour will find it

:04:13. > :04:14.tough to avoid losses in May's local elections.

:04:15. > :04:17.The party now leads 12 out of Wales' 22 councils.

:04:18. > :04:19.But speaking ahead of Welsh Labour's conference in Llandudno,

:04:20. > :04:22.he admitted it would not be sensible to pretend things are good

:04:23. > :04:29.Here's our political editor, Nick Servini.

:04:30. > :04:38.The foundations of the ancient fortress of Flint Castle dominates

:04:39. > :04:42.this corner of the DS Jimmy. Fast forward to modern-day politics and

:04:43. > :04:45.the foundations for so many parties is local government and that applies

:04:46. > :04:51.to Labour more than anyone else in Wales. The modern-day castles are

:04:52. > :04:55.the town halls up and down the country. Just down the road from

:04:56. > :04:58.here is the headquarters of Flintshire County Council. It is the

:04:59. > :05:04.only one currently controlled by Labour in North Wales. Nearby Flint

:05:05. > :05:09.is traditionally rock-solid Labour territory, so what do people here

:05:10. > :05:15.think of the state of the party as we approach the council elections?

:05:16. > :05:19.Yes, they get my vote every time, I am a trade unionist. But even you

:05:20. > :05:26.think it is not great as the mine. No, I don't think it is great at the

:05:27. > :05:31.moment. They have the wrong leader. Not happy with them at all. I just

:05:32. > :05:38.don't think... They are not like they used to be. Do you think they

:05:39. > :05:43.will get voted back in? I think they will around year because it has

:05:44. > :05:47.always been Labour around here. It has been a roller-coaster few years

:05:48. > :05:51.for Labour. Beginning with the outsider Jeremy Corbyn winning the

:05:52. > :05:56.leadership contest nearly two years ago. Then Welsh Labour did better

:05:57. > :06:01.than many expected in the assembly election last year. But failed to

:06:02. > :06:05.persuade many voters in traditional Labour areas to vote to remain in

:06:06. > :06:10.the European Union. And all that before Jeremy Corbyn won yet another

:06:11. > :06:14.leadership contest in the summer. All eyes now turn to the local

:06:15. > :06:18.authority elections were Labour dominates, particularly along the M4

:06:19. > :06:25.corridor and in the South Wales valleys, when it is still in control

:06:26. > :06:29.of every council. Ahead of the conference, the First Minister

:06:30. > :06:33.Carwyn Jones toured a sealed off pharmaceutical lab on the Deeside

:06:34. > :06:38.Industrial Park taken Flintshire. The question is whether Welsh Labour

:06:39. > :06:42.can seal itself from more -- so many of the deep divisions on show within

:06:43. > :06:46.the party elsewhere. I am not going to pretend things are good at

:06:47. > :06:50.Westminster. It would not be sensible for me to say that. But

:06:51. > :06:53.this is not an election at Westminster. This is Welsh Labour

:06:54. > :06:58.fighting local elections for the people of Wales, same way as we did

:06:59. > :07:02.last year. Look at what is being delivered on your doorstep, good

:07:03. > :07:07.delivery from Labour councils. It is important to vote in more Labour

:07:08. > :07:11.councillors. Last-minute checks are taken out -- carried out at the

:07:12. > :07:12.conference venue as labour affairs for another big test at the ballot

:07:13. > :07:13.box. Nick, how do party figures

:07:14. > :07:16.in Llandudno tonight think the council elections will go

:07:17. > :07:27.for them? Well, Jamie, there is clearly some

:07:28. > :07:34.expectation management going on. 2012 was a really good result. The

:07:35. > :07:36.Welsh football team is looking to continue with the success of the

:07:37. > :07:52.European Championships and Carwyn Jones likened Labour today... They

:07:53. > :07:56.are control in 12 out of the 22 councils. If they come away still in

:07:57. > :08:01.the driving seat in eight or nine, it will have been a good night for

:08:02. > :08:05.the party. Be that as it may, the strategy for the party here this

:08:06. > :08:09.weekend will be to signify the message. Fairness seems to be the

:08:10. > :08:14.one that is breaking through. The difficulty is that last year in the

:08:15. > :08:16.assembly campaign, they made it all about Carwyn Jones and the

:08:17. > :08:21.personality of the First Minister. They cannot do that when there are

:08:22. > :08:26.22 local battles going on across the country. A final thought, it is

:08:27. > :08:29.often said that the power base of Welsh Labour resides in town halls

:08:30. > :08:35.up and down the country. At such a divisive moment for the party, I

:08:36. > :08:38.think we will soon find out how strong that power base for the party

:08:39. > :08:40.really is. The man who killed Cerys Yemm

:08:41. > :08:43.at the Sirhowy Arms in Argoed in 2014 had, months earlier,

:08:44. > :08:46.allegedly sent letters from prison, threatening to kill people,

:08:47. > :08:48.an inquest has heard. A police officer told the court,

:08:49. > :08:51.the letters gave him serious concern for the mental wellbeing

:08:52. > :08:52.of Matthew Williams, and were sent to the crown

:08:53. > :08:54.prosecution service. But it was decided not to prosecute

:08:55. > :08:57.because there was not enough evidence to prove the letters

:08:58. > :09:06.were from him. An inquest has heard that north

:09:07. > :09:08.Wales businesswoman Stephanie Booth was crushed to death by a tractor

:09:09. > :09:12.she was using to cut grass at her The 70-year-old was well known

:09:13. > :09:16.for the TV series "Hotel Stephanie", as well as an unsuccessful bid

:09:17. > :09:19.to take over Wrexham Football Club. The coroner recorded a conclusion

:09:20. > :09:29.of accidental death. Businesses are giving evidence

:09:30. > :09:31.to the public inquiry into plans This week, supporters of the route

:09:32. > :09:35.favoured by the Welsh government, including the employers

:09:36. > :09:36.organisation, the CBI, said it was essential

:09:37. > :09:39.for the project to get the go ahead Next week, businesses

:09:40. > :09:42.against the plan will explain their objections

:09:43. > :09:44.to the billion pound scheme. Here's our business

:09:45. > :09:58.correspondent, Brian Meechan. Two different businesses operating

:09:59. > :10:03.around Newport, two very different views of what should happen with the

:10:04. > :10:09.M4. The Welsh Government prefers the Black route to relieve congestion

:10:10. > :10:23.around the Brynglas tunnels. It is a ?1.1 billion six lane motorway. This

:10:24. > :10:26.development will see 4000 new homes, office and factory space, shops and

:10:27. > :10:36.a school. It is evidence to the public enquiry that the black route

:10:37. > :10:39.is the preferred option. It causes congestion for all those vehicles

:10:40. > :10:46.going through there and around Cardiff. Any opportunity to allow

:10:47. > :10:50.movement I think will help business. The CBI favours the black route,

:10:51. > :11:00.saying the current problems on the M4 cost businesses, including hours

:11:01. > :11:04.lost in traffic jams. The port of Newport has raised objections to the

:11:05. > :11:14.black route cutting right across the docks.

:11:15. > :11:23.One company says it would damage its business. It handles 700,000 tonnes

:11:24. > :11:29.of steel every year and that means 200 trucks coming in and out of here

:11:30. > :11:33.every day. This imported steel lies in one of the warehouses at the

:11:34. > :11:41.docks before being transported to its final destination. If we are

:11:42. > :11:46.restricted the number of births we can operate, then our competitive

:11:47. > :11:52.methods could suffer, the board could suffer. A ship can go to any

:11:53. > :11:56.port. It doesn't have to come to Newport. It is a debate that has

:11:57. > :12:00.been going on for over 20 years. Whatever the outcome of the enquiry,

:12:01. > :12:02.it is sure to have an impact on businesses across South Wales.

:12:03. > :12:05.There's a call for the Welsh Government to give more money

:12:06. > :12:07.towards projects that integrate refugees and asylum seekers

:12:08. > :12:10.The Oasis charity in Cardiff has grown considerably

:12:11. > :12:12.since it opened in 2008 - and offers support and training

:12:13. > :12:15.for people from all over the world as they settle here.

:12:16. > :12:17.This year it's received money from Comic Relief.

:12:18. > :12:25.Eight and a half years ago, the Oasis Centre in Cardiff

:12:26. > :12:28.40 refugees and asylum seekers would visit each week.

:12:29. > :12:31.Now, it's a maze of rooms, based in a former church.

:12:32. > :12:34.But it's a different kind of faith the 140 people who visit here every

:12:35. > :12:44.Making them feel safe, part of the community,

:12:45. > :12:46.understanding the laws, understanding the cultural norms is

:12:47. > :12:57.Getting funding is very difficult and that's why I'm so grateful

:12:58. > :13:00.for Comic Relief for giving us core funding because it has taken

:13:01. > :13:04.But getting funding for what to me are core

:13:05. > :13:05.services is very difficult and very challenging.

:13:06. > :13:16.And I would hope that the Welsh Government will consider that.

:13:17. > :13:20.With long waiting lists for classes at nearby colleges,

:13:21. > :13:22.accredited lessons were introduced here six months ago.

:13:23. > :13:23.Marion came to Cardiff ten years ago.

:13:24. > :13:28.Now settled in the capital, she is giving back to the people

:13:29. > :13:30.who helped her and volunteers at Oasis' clothing store,

:13:31. > :13:32.where those who have just arrived choose clothes that

:13:33. > :13:47.I just came from Islam to Christianity and because I have

:13:48. > :13:49.difficulty in Iran and I couldn't live in Iran.

:13:50. > :13:51.When I came here, it was very, very hard time for me.

:13:52. > :13:54.They helped me a lot, learn the most important things,

:13:55. > :14:07.The Welsh Government doesn't fund Oasis but says it values the hard

:14:08. > :14:09.work of charities to support refugees and asylum seekers and says

:14:10. > :14:12.it is investing ?1 million in an advice and advocacy service

:14:13. > :14:16.For the next two years, ?40,000 from Comic Relief will help

:14:17. > :14:19.with the day to day running of a centre that's proved a place

:14:20. > :14:38.We are in Dublin, so too are thousands of fans for a crucial

:14:39. > :14:41.Wales haven't beaten the Republic of Ireland

:14:42. > :14:48.And the community in Pembrokeshire founded by Flemish invaders 900

:14:49. > :14:58.years ago charts its extraordinary tale in tapestry.

:14:59. > :15:01.?10,000 is being given to each local council across Wales to buy musical

:15:02. > :15:04.The money from the Welsh government will be targeted

:15:05. > :15:06.at areas where children are currently missing out.

:15:07. > :15:09.It comes after years of cuts to music budgets by local councils.

:15:10. > :15:28.Here's our arts and media correspondent, Huw Thomas.

:15:29. > :15:34.At Grangetown primary School in Cardiff, the UK -- the lesson is a

:15:35. > :15:38.fun and focused affair. It is the only chance many of these children

:15:39. > :15:43.get to hold an instrument and play along with their friends. Every time

:15:44. > :15:51.I am playing, I learned something different. Music is really fun to

:15:52. > :15:56.learn also and easy to play. I constantly like to use the ukelele

:15:57. > :16:02.but we don't constantly have them in class. I wish we would have more

:16:03. > :16:07.music lessons. The money available for music in schools had been cut

:16:08. > :16:10.right back in recent years with lessons and instruments forced lower

:16:11. > :16:13.down the list of priorities for cash-strapped councils and

:16:14. > :16:21.headteachers. This funding is meant to improve access to music and will

:16:22. > :16:23.be targeted areas where parents cannot always afford to buy

:16:24. > :16:29.instruments for children keen to play. This will ensure that they all

:16:30. > :16:34.have that opportunity to partake in and play an instrument. The ?10,000

:16:35. > :16:38.per council announced today will also help set up a database to

:16:39. > :16:43.assess the stock that is held in schools already and plug the gaps.

:16:44. > :16:47.We want children to have a broad-based experience in school so

:16:48. > :16:51.not just obviously focusing on core subjects like maths and English but

:16:52. > :16:55.we do know that developing children's creativity can have an

:16:56. > :17:00.important impact on how well they do in other subjects. One of those in

:17:01. > :17:04.charge of music services hopes the money will be a catalyst for further

:17:05. > :17:10.investment. We have always been a bit of a Cinderella outfit. Never

:17:11. > :17:14.invited to the ball. People have realised that without this

:17:15. > :17:16.investment, we will never find Wales' most talented musicians and

:17:17. > :17:22.we could miss somebody. There is more investment to come with a fund

:17:23. > :17:26.to be launched soon by the Welsh Government aiming to give better

:17:27. > :17:29.access to musical activity. In the meantime, these children will keep

:17:30. > :17:30.practising the ukelele with the prospect of more instruments to

:17:31. > :17:32.come. Welsh football fans will be

:17:33. > :17:33.hoping there's plenty Yes, Dublin is the place to be,

:17:34. > :17:40.as Wales look to topple the Republic Manager Chris Coleman says his side

:17:41. > :17:44.go into the World Cup qualifier confident and has urged his players

:17:45. > :17:47.to seize the moment. We'll be live in Dublin

:17:48. > :17:49.in just a minute. First, Tomos Dafydd has been

:17:50. > :17:51.soaking up the atmosphere Dublin's cultural quarter,

:17:52. > :17:56.Temple Bar, taken over tonight. This maze of cobbled streets filled

:17:57. > :17:58.with travelling fans in red. European semifinalists last summer,

:17:59. > :18:01.but Wales have recorded just one So, are the players

:18:02. > :18:09.suffering a Euro hangover? We drew at home with Georgia,

:18:10. > :18:13.drew at home with Serbia. So I think it's really important

:18:14. > :18:16.to note that we pick I think Gareth Bale is going

:18:17. > :18:22.to score and Joe Ledley. Wales say they are desperate

:18:23. > :18:32.to succeed, desperate to repeat But hopes of getting

:18:33. > :18:36.to next year's World Cup They have had a better

:18:37. > :18:42.campaign than us so far. But we feel that if we play our best

:18:43. > :18:46.game, like we have done on many Wales' star players have been

:18:47. > :18:55.singled out for criticism here. The former Republic manager

:18:56. > :18:57.Johnny Giles said Aaron Ramsey And without Gareth Bale,

:18:58. > :19:00.Wales would be very average. Chris Coleman wasn't

:19:01. > :19:04.taking the bait. Well, I must be a hell

:19:05. > :19:07.of a manager then. I'm happy with Johnny

:19:08. > :19:08.Giles' comments. The last and only competitive away

:19:09. > :19:13.match between the sides happened Katherine Jenkins belted out

:19:14. > :19:21.the anthem, Wales lost 1-nil. And playing in defence that day,

:19:22. > :19:23.a 17-year-old Gareth Bale. He is now Wales' biggest

:19:24. > :19:33.asset in attack. To stop him, Ireland

:19:34. > :19:35.will have to hit him fairly. That is what Assistant Manager Roy

:19:36. > :19:37.Keane has suggested. He is a world-class player

:19:38. > :19:49.and we will have to be careful and get tight to him in certain

:19:50. > :19:52.areas, but we can't just fully Tonight's match is not only

:19:53. > :19:59.significant for Wales' hopes of reaching the World Cup,

:20:00. > :20:01.but for the manager's Chris Coleman has previously said

:20:02. > :20:05.he would consider his position if Wales were out of contention

:20:06. > :20:10.after five games. It is important as a team,

:20:11. > :20:13.we need to get the three points. If we don't get the three points,

:20:14. > :20:15.it will be very, very As for Chris Coleman, I mean,

:20:16. > :20:19.he could have to reconsider what he is going to be doing

:20:20. > :20:22.with Wales in the future because he did say after the five

:20:23. > :20:26.games, judge him on that. It has been a quarter of a century

:20:27. > :20:30.since Wales last celebrated a win over the Republic of Ireland

:20:31. > :20:32.and while their hosts have been plagued by injuries,

:20:33. > :20:34.Wales are at full strength and possibly won't have a better

:20:35. > :20:41.opportunity to beat their hosts. Tomos is outside the Aviva Stadium

:20:42. > :21:02.for us tonight, where Yes, Chris Coleman has just named

:21:03. > :21:06.his side to face the Republic of Ireland. Let me just run Bob Crow

:21:07. > :21:19.run through the site. The defences as you would expect.

:21:20. > :21:33.The central defence... And then Joe Ledley and Joe Allen. Aaron Ramsey

:21:34. > :21:39.is back. Gareth Bale is indeed team. Hal Robson-Kanu plays up front. This

:21:40. > :21:42.is the first time Chris Coleman has had the chance to play his strongest
