:00:12. > :00:14.Her son's death at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was 'avoidable'.

:00:15. > :00:16.She speaks of her anger after an investigation is launched

:00:17. > :00:29.The hospital is not learning. You go into hospital to have a baby, you do

:00:30. > :00:30.not expect to come out without her baby.

:00:31. > :00:31.Tonight the Health Trust apologises unreservedly

:00:32. > :00:51.Lansbury Park in Caerphilly is the most deprived

:00:52. > :00:53.community in Wales - a report calls for a new approach

:00:54. > :01:04.All the children are just in trainers and tracksuit bottoms.

:01:05. > :01:06.Heading into the mountains over the Easter weekend -

:01:07. > :01:09.a plea from frustrated rescue teams - to make sure you are

:01:14. > :01:15.at Swansea University have teamed up with TATA to trial new technology.

:01:16. > :01:20.Newport County's caretaker manager says it would be a dream come true

:01:21. > :01:31.A couple from Powys whose baby son died at a hospital in Shrewsbury,

:01:32. > :01:34.have spoken of their anger that infants have continued to die

:01:35. > :01:40.at the same NHS Trust - which is now at the centre

:01:41. > :01:43.Jenson Barnett from Newtown died in 20-13 from brain injuries,

:01:44. > :01:49.two days after a failed attempt to deliver him with forceps.

:01:50. > :01:56.Tonight - the boss of the health trust has apologised unreservedly

:01:57. > :02:01.Little Jenson Barnett should have been nearly four years old now.

:02:02. > :02:03.But he died just two days after he was born

:02:04. > :02:07.Staff tried to deliver him with forceps but they slipped

:02:08. > :02:09.off his head causing injuries to his brain.

:02:10. > :02:12.He was later born by emergency caesarian section but it was too

:02:13. > :02:24.We spent that night with him but obviously he had tubes all over him.

:02:25. > :02:31.There were six or seven doctors around him, he was going for scans.

:02:32. > :02:36.His longest word in difficulty as well. We spent the night with him

:02:37. > :02:42.and then the next EU got mixed -- move to a different unit with lots

:02:43. > :02:42.more tubes again but yes, it was not nice.

:02:43. > :02:51.and Telford NHS Trust over the past eight years.

:02:52. > :02:53.Seven of those deaths, including Jensons, were said to be avoidable.

:02:54. > :02:56.Kate, who's since had a daughter Isla, says despite an apology

:02:57. > :02:58.and assurances that lessons would be learned she's angry that

:02:59. > :03:03.similar tragedies continued at the trust.

:03:04. > :03:10.At the time they said they were going to do stuff about it and

:03:11. > :03:14.things had changed, but obviously they have not. Seeing all this on

:03:15. > :03:18.the news has really made me quite angry rather than upset. They have

:03:19. > :03:27.in mid Wales delivers around 4,700 babies each year - around 224

:03:28. > :03:44.Tonight there chief executive has apologised unreservedly to the

:03:45. > :03:45.parents involved. It has learned lessons but it must strive to do

:03:46. > :03:48.more. The UK Health Secretary

:03:49. > :03:50.Jeremy Hunt has asked for a review into the deaths

:03:51. > :03:53.and other incidents at the trust. And for the families affected

:03:54. > :04:01.to be kept informed. There needs to be an investigation

:04:02. > :04:05.into what happens, there must be full transparency in order for

:04:06. > :04:08.lessons to be learned. There needs to be a full apology to all the

:04:09. > :04:10.families who had such tragedies. Kate Barnett

:04:11. > :04:12.and her husband say that Jenson will always be a big

:04:13. > :04:15.part of their family - and hope other families will be

:04:16. > :04:23.spared the pain they've experienced. You go into hospital to have a baby,

:04:24. > :04:31.you do not expect to come out without a baby. It is not the same.

:04:32. > :04:33.Nothing will bring him back but our family and friends, we are strong

:04:34. > :04:40.Many policies aimed at reducing poverty in Wales

:04:41. > :04:43.That's the damning finding of a major new study

:04:44. > :04:45.into the poorest place in the country -

:04:46. > :04:50.Experts spent six months analysing the estate.

:04:51. > :04:51.Our Economics Correspondent, Sarah Dickins, has

:04:52. > :04:59.Lansbury Park sits almost in the shadow of Caerphilly's famous

:05:00. > :05:02.castle but it is a world away from its grandeur.

:05:03. > :05:05.This is the most deprived community in Wales and although

:05:06. > :05:07.proud and tight knit, it has complex problems.

:05:08. > :05:13.It feels like one that is almost hemmed in, turning in on itself.

:05:14. > :05:17.As a nation we are creating economic policies which are dislocated

:05:18. > :05:21.from people who live in communities like Lansbury.

:05:22. > :05:26.We need to talk to them, engage them rather than leave them behind.

:05:27. > :05:29.With the children in school a group of mothers start their work-out.

:05:30. > :05:32.These women were brought up in Lansbury Park and are still

:05:33. > :05:40.It does not mean that is what is going wrong in the community.

:05:41. > :05:48.Although Lansbury Park is close to jobs in Cardiff and the M4,

:05:49. > :05:51.I'm told it is hard for young people to get jobs.

:05:52. > :05:58.I think there are jobs out there and it does not help

:05:59. > :06:03.when people would like to go for a job that they think, it is not

:06:04. > :06:05.worth me trying because I do not have the qualifications,

:06:06. > :06:12.Two thirds of lone parents are not employed, that's 50% higher

:06:13. > :06:18.Men living in Lansbury Park are more than twice as likely to be

:06:19. > :06:24.You can see the challenges, more than half of the adults

:06:25. > :06:29.on the estate have no qualifications and half of no car.

:06:30. > :06:33.Caerphilly council owns the social housing, not a housing association.

:06:34. > :06:36.It is making houses warmer and drier as part of a ?10 million

:06:37. > :06:42.It is also trying to setup work experience for residents

:06:43. > :06:47.It knows it needs to do things very differently and argues that does

:06:48. > :06:52.It is about giving those people the confidence and the self belief

:06:53. > :07:01.It means working with them to make them believe

:07:02. > :07:11.People say you are not good enough, you believe you are not good enough,

:07:12. > :07:18.There is a real mix of problems here.

:07:19. > :07:22.I have been talking to people at community events,

:07:23. > :07:24.and to community workers as well and what they tell

:07:25. > :07:27.me is that the group of people who are hardest

:07:28. > :07:30.One solution in the report is that there should be more

:07:31. > :07:40.day-to-day or even mundane jobs here on the estate,

:07:41. > :07:42.Caring for people and providing food.

:07:43. > :07:45.That way there could be jobs here that people would not need

:07:46. > :07:47.too many qualifications for and they would not

:07:48. > :07:50.As the Welsh Government determines its future

:07:51. > :07:52.anti-poverty policies, the message from Lansbury Park will

:07:53. > :07:58.The sister of a woman unlawfully killed at a hostel in Argoed has

:07:59. > :08:01.spoken about how she discovered she'd been murdered -

:08:02. > :08:08.Cerys Yemm was attacked by Matthew Williams in November 2014.

:08:09. > :08:11.Police officers stunned him with a Taser, but he later died.

:08:12. > :08:13.Cerys Yemm's sister, Shannon was speaking on the BBC's

:08:14. > :08:21.I had seen a post obviously that there had been a murder.

:08:22. > :08:27.please don't tell me it's true, it's not your sister.

:08:28. > :08:35.I had to drive home from Cardiff then,

:08:36. > :08:38.People couldn't tell me, were crying, couldn't

:08:39. > :08:41.Gwent Police say there was a delay in telling Cerys Yemm's

:08:42. > :08:44.family about her death, because they wanted her mother to be

:08:45. > :08:50.told by an officer who'd dealt with her previously.

:08:51. > :08:52.The former head of a Swansea homeless charity has admitted

:08:53. > :08:54.forging invoices for ?1.3 million into his own bank account -

:08:55. > :08:57.Robert Davies was working for Cyrenians Cymru

:08:58. > :08:59.when he was arrested in December 20-14.

:09:00. > :09:03.The charity later went into administration.

:09:04. > :09:09.Davies was remanded in custody, to be sentenced later this month.

:09:10. > :09:11.The Easter getaway has begun tonight and with it,

:09:12. > :09:12.volunteer rescuers have expressed their frustration

:09:13. > :09:15.at the number of people who go into the mountains poorly equipped.

:09:16. > :09:18.Snowdonia is one of our most popular destinations and Roger Pinney

:09:19. > :09:28.Yes, near Llanberis and with views like this its no wonder visitors

:09:29. > :09:35.But this, believe me, pales into insignificance compared

:09:36. > :09:37.with the view from the top of Snowdon or the other

:09:38. > :09:40.peaks in North and South Wales for that matter.

:09:41. > :09:42.The problem is many people tackle them without properly

:09:43. > :09:57.The sign says it all, car park full and that is a day ahead of the bank

:09:58. > :10:03.holiday weekends. This is the start of two of the tracks up Snowdon.

:10:04. > :10:08.Among those getting ready I met two people and they seem to know what

:10:09. > :10:13.they were doing. You have to be ready for the cold, prepare for

:10:14. > :10:23.dehydration, basic essentials and know the conditions of the mountain.

:10:24. > :10:27.At we have been checking the difficulty and the road conditions

:10:28. > :10:32.every day in the week. Even though we have not been here before, we

:10:33. > :10:38.always know the route. Not everyone is that appeared, today the cloud

:10:39. > :10:42.was closing in and it was bitter on the summit, feeling like minus seven

:10:43. > :10:47.Celsius in the wind but still the those ill-equipped. You notice men

:10:48. > :10:52.with families, more the children that are just in trainers and jeans

:10:53. > :11:01.and tracksuit bottoms. It is quite rough up there. I took my gloves off

:11:02. > :11:07.for a minute and I could not feel my fingers. Some people just have

:11:08. > :11:10.jumpers on and they will freeze. It is called, definitely. No wonder

:11:11. > :11:17.volunteers like those in the mountain rescue team get frustrated.

:11:18. > :11:24.They call this beast. Today members were planning a simulated rescue,

:11:25. > :11:28.and one of the toughest peaks in Snowdonia. We have had 80 call-outs

:11:29. > :11:33.already this year. We're some of their busiest rescue teams in the

:11:34. > :11:39.country year. Certainly between Ogwen Valley and Llanberis. As

:11:40. > :11:43.volunteers, we are leaving our homes, work and families to carry

:11:44. > :11:50.out rescues and it is very frustrating when we find people who,

:11:51. > :11:54.it is almost a self-inflicted injury by going out ill-prepared. It is a

:11:55. > :11:59.similar story in South and mid Wales. This team has had 81 calls

:12:00. > :12:05.since New Year, they know Easter will be busy so that is a warning.

:12:06. > :12:09.We strive to provide a professional service but we are volunteers and

:12:10. > :12:16.potentially with the increasing trend in calls for help, there

:12:17. > :12:21.potential for a drain on resources and availability. Mountain rescuers

:12:22. > :12:24.love the terrain in which they work but warn that maintenance, although

:12:25. > :12:30.beautiful, they will come back and bite you. Every rescuer I have ever

:12:31. > :12:34.spoken to have told me they want people to come to the mountains, but

:12:35. > :12:40.they want them to come well-prepared. Plan ahead, we're the

:12:41. > :12:42.right clothing, consider that arena and the weather. Always be prepared

:12:43. > :12:47.to change plans if the weather changes. Thank you very much.

:12:48. > :12:51.As we saw in Roger's report - plenty of visitors have already

:12:52. > :12:55.But Professor Brian Garrod - a tourism expert from

:12:56. > :12:57.Aberystwyth University - says the industry here could miss

:12:58. > :13:00.out, despite the large increase in overseas visitors to the UK

:13:01. > :13:07.The Welsh Government says tourism here has been enjoying

:13:08. > :13:11.With the temperature only a touch above 10 degrees,

:13:12. > :13:14.that has not stopped holiday-makers heading to the beach in Aberystwyth.

:13:15. > :13:16.It is part of a tourism boom Wales has been

:13:17. > :13:21.It is predicted this season will be even busier, especially

:13:22. > :13:29.Aled who runs Cambria Tours says he has seen overseas bookings treble

:13:30. > :13:33.We have seen a growth in the last year, huge

:13:34. > :13:41.growth from North America, Canada, Germany.

:13:42. > :13:44.It can be 15 or 20% cheaper overnight.

:13:45. > :13:50.So our main focus are our tour operators overseas.

:13:51. > :13:55.They were obviously being able to pass on their savings due

:13:56. > :14:04.A million legends lie, awake and reimagined...

:14:05. > :14:06.This year the campaign focuses on legends fronted

:14:07. > :14:11.The idea is to sell our landscape based on thousands

:14:12. > :14:24.One expert fears we fail to capitalise on the increased

:14:25. > :14:28.It is one thing getting them to arrive another thing to get them

:14:29. > :14:32.I think that the facilities we have in Wales, whilst excellent,

:14:33. > :14:35.We don't have the kind of things they were really after.

:14:36. > :14:38.We have really good hotels here but not the best.

:14:39. > :14:40.While we have good theme parks, we don't have the best.

:14:41. > :14:46.We are always competing against neighbours in England and Scotland.

:14:47. > :14:50.The Welsh Government said tourism is strong with more than 850,000

:14:51. > :14:53.people visiting Wales from overseas in the first nine months of 2016.

:14:54. > :14:59.That's up 12% on the year before with tourists spending more as well.

:15:00. > :15:04.It is a view backed by Richard Edwards who runs a B

:15:05. > :15:18.He says visitors are blown away by what Wales has to offer.

:15:19. > :15:23.We have the quality to attract a high spending

:15:24. > :15:28.There are few places in the UK or even the world which had such

:15:29. > :15:30.an amazing mix of man-made, historic, cultural and

:15:31. > :15:33.These American tourists from Oklahoma were planning

:15:34. > :15:36.a holiday in Hawaii but the exchange rate and the history of Wales

:15:37. > :15:43.has seen them book a holiday in Aberystwyth instead.

:15:44. > :15:47.We thought the weak pound made it more attractive

:15:48. > :15:51.a holiday that appealed to everybody in my family.

:15:52. > :15:53.My parents, especially my father, is more interested in history.

:15:54. > :15:56.So another bumper season is expected for the industry in Wales

:15:57. > :16:07.with the weak pound proving a strong draw for overseas tourists.

:16:08. > :16:15.Still to come. Can you port counties stay in the football league. And the

:16:16. > :16:18.Easter holiday, not a write-off by any means. I will have the latest

:16:19. > :16:24.for costs -- forecast. The Welsh Conservatives have

:16:25. > :16:25.launched their campaign for the local government elections

:16:26. > :16:28.promising strong councils to give Their leader Andrew RT Davies said

:16:29. > :16:32.the party is "very positive" going to the elections,

:16:33. > :16:34.despite the row over a Ukip AM joining the Tory

:16:35. > :16:36.group in the Assembly. From the launch in

:16:37. > :16:38.the Vale of Gmaorgan - here's our Political Reporter Bethan

:16:39. > :16:51.Lewis. All smiles at the launch of their

:16:52. > :16:57.plans for Welsh councils but it comes only days after Andrew RT

:16:58. > :17:01.Davies's decision to welcome a former Ukip AM into the Assembly

:17:02. > :17:05.group which prompted a backlash from senior figures in the party. Today

:17:06. > :17:12.they wanted to focus on the message for voters on May the force. We want

:17:13. > :17:16.to stop the centralisation of power in Cardiff and let councils give

:17:17. > :17:22.communities real control. The reality is that on the doorstep

:17:23. > :17:25.people are more interested in potholes and personalities. The

:17:26. > :17:29.selection is so much more important than one person. We are focused on

:17:30. > :17:35.doing the right thing, shouting for you if you have been ignored for

:17:36. > :17:40.Labour by so long, this is your chance to make a difference. Welsh

:17:41. > :17:46.Conservatives hold 104 seats in Wales, down from 170 49 years ago.

:17:47. > :17:51.Monmouthshire is currently the only council run by the Welsh

:17:52. > :17:55.Conservatives. In order to make gains, they hope the promise of

:17:56. > :18:03.feeder council tax and revitalising high streets will appeal to voters.

:18:04. > :18:06.Last year's elections was disappointing for their

:18:07. > :18:09.Conservatives after an impressive performance in the UK general

:18:10. > :18:14.election. It will be looking for a gains in places like the Vale of

:18:15. > :18:20.Glamorgan. In view of tensions over the Ukip am, could there be more at

:18:21. > :18:25.stake this time? Do you feel the pressure as the leader in view of

:18:26. > :18:28.the disappointing performance in the Assembly elections last year and the

:18:29. > :18:34.tensions over what happened last week? We always look positively,

:18:35. > :18:38.from my point of view I am positive individual which is why we have an

:18:39. > :18:42.exciting manifesto and if you are in your local community want change and

:18:43. > :18:47.accountability and good quality local services, then you need to

:18:48. > :18:51.vote Welsh Conservative and made a fourth. That is omitted all of the

:18:52. > :18:58.party should be able to agree on, whatever the tensions behind the

:18:59. > :19:04.scenes. The challenge over the next three weeks is to the voters. -- is

:19:05. > :19:09.The challenges of the steel industry have been well documented over

:19:10. > :19:11.the past 18 months - but now scientists in Swansea

:19:12. > :19:13.say their research is helping it become more efficient.

:19:14. > :19:15.Two projects at the University have won Royal Society

:19:16. > :19:18.awards for innovation - which they say can make the UK steel

:19:19. > :19:28.These days there's less fanfare, but just as much innovation.

:19:29. > :19:34.They've scanned these large furnaces in Port Talbot

:19:35. > :19:36.to see exactly how the liquid steel moves -

:19:37. > :19:39.improving the design - so the lining lasts longer,

:19:40. > :19:42.and the pipes that blow the air in to mix are more efficient.

:19:43. > :19:53.the steelworks ?4 million a year.

:19:54. > :20:01.Production of steel in Port Talbot is important for the local community

:20:02. > :20:03.and also important to the economy of Wales so we are generating more

:20:04. > :20:06.value through innovation. This needle barely

:20:07. > :20:11.looks like its moving - but its checking the new coating

:20:12. > :20:14.on this piece of steel. They prevent rust

:20:15. > :20:18.and are not just used in the steel industry but for construction,

:20:19. > :20:19.cars and planes. as long as what's used now,

:20:20. > :20:24.because it only releases the chemical that's used

:20:25. > :20:39.to prevent corrosion - This is what they have currently and

:20:40. > :20:40.if we can offer something better, it is a market leader.

:20:41. > :20:44.The current industry coating is toxic and will be banned in 2019.

:20:45. > :20:48.The research to find a replacement has taken 20 years.

:20:49. > :20:58.You could put it down to luck as well, we tested it, five days a

:20:59. > :21:02.week, 24 hours. They have been churned out over time, a student

:21:03. > :21:07.could the test on and then we did it for a whole month because we could

:21:08. > :21:13.for the project is to start a business in south Wales -

:21:14. > :21:21.the market is estimated at around 30 million pounds.

:21:22. > :21:24.There'll also be a UK Steel Science Centre

:21:25. > :21:26.in Swansea Bay as part of the City Deal.

:21:27. > :21:30.It will aim to see even more innovations

:21:31. > :21:32.in the lab to keep Port Talbot steelworks at the front

:21:33. > :21:44.Claire is here with tonight's sport now - Claire.

:21:45. > :21:49.They looked down and out but Newport County could be

:21:50. > :21:51.on the verge of turning around their season and staying

:21:52. > :21:55.The Exiles are a side transformed under caretaker Coach Mike Flynn.

:21:56. > :21:58.He's been speaking about what it would mean to him if his side can

:21:59. > :22:11.Training with the spring on their step, their season was written off a

:22:12. > :22:17.few weeks ago but how things have changed. Many are putting their
