:00:00. > 3:59:59hearings. We will be asking if it is just bad luck to lose three or we

:00:00. > :00:00.doing something wrong? Welcome to Wales Today.

:00:00. > :00:00.Our top stories: Cardiff hosts a key night for Labour

:00:07. > :00:09.- the first head to head debate between leader Jeremy Corbyn

:00:10. > :00:11.and contender, One of the country's top water

:00:12. > :00:19.companies denies claims that it's responsible for dried out

:00:20. > :00:22.springs and sinking land. And the nursery being investigated

:00:23. > :00:24.after a little boy was left unaccompanied on a minibus

:00:25. > :00:44.for two hours has reopened. In the first Labour

:00:45. > :00:47.leadership husting hosted in Cardiff, the party

:00:48. > :00:49.leader Jeremy Corbyn and his only contender,

:00:50. > :00:52.the Pontypridd MP, Owen Smith, debated how Wales should be funded

:00:53. > :00:57.and what Brexit means for us here. The two clashed over the unity

:00:58. > :01:00.of the Labour party. Our political reporter, Cemlyn

:01:01. > :01:05.Davies, watched the exchanges. There was a warm welcome

:01:06. > :01:08.for Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith as they took to the stage in Cardiff

:01:09. > :01:12.for their first leadership hustings. The initial exchanges centred

:01:13. > :01:16.on a lack of unity within Labour and the party's electoral

:01:17. > :01:19.performance under Mr It's a disgrace we've got UKIP

:01:20. > :01:31.in our national assembly here in Wales on your watch,

:01:32. > :01:35.on our watch. We did defeat the Tories

:01:36. > :01:39.in the May elections. I wish it had been by more,

:01:40. > :01:43.but we were ahead of them at the end of it and the party is growing

:01:44. > :01:45.massively in membership. The discussion then turned

:01:46. > :01:49.to the EU referendum result. Jeremy Corbyn's committment

:01:50. > :01:52.to the Remain campaign has been questioned by some,

:01:53. > :01:55.but tonight he saw an opportunity My constituency voted 73% to Remain,

:01:56. > :02:03.constituencies in the valleys and other places voted

:02:04. > :02:06.quite strongly to Leave. They did and the reason they did

:02:07. > :02:16.that was because there has been under investment

:02:17. > :02:17.in those communities. And then to finish, a discussion

:02:18. > :02:21.about Wales as both candidates were asked how they would re-engage

:02:22. > :02:26.with Welsh voters. Not punishing the people of Wales

:02:27. > :02:31.by underfunding the government the government of Wales,

:02:32. > :02:34.which is what this government is doing and also ensuring

:02:35. > :02:36.that the infrastructure investment that's been lost through

:02:37. > :02:38.the European Union or potentially lost is replaced by the UK

:02:39. > :02:41.government so that we do get the south-east Wales metro

:02:42. > :02:45.and I would also like to see By having a Labour government

:02:46. > :02:52.in Westminster to work with our brilliant Labour

:02:53. > :02:54.government here in Wales. Let's invest in the NHS in Wales

:02:55. > :02:59.through increasing the budget The secret to doing all that,

:03:00. > :03:05.my friends, is a Labour government in Westminster to work

:03:06. > :03:10.with our comrades here in Wales. This is a very fiery

:03:11. > :03:12.first debate between The audience here also

:03:13. > :03:19.played its part and it'll be down to Labour's members,

:03:20. > :03:22.including those here tonight, The winner will be announced

:03:23. > :03:35.on 24th September. The family of a four year-old boy

:03:36. > :03:38.who died in a house fire can begin planning his funeral,

:03:39. > :03:41.after a hearing into his death was opened and adjourned

:03:42. > :03:44.at Swansea Coroners Court. Jac Davies died following the blaze

:03:45. > :03:47.at his family's home A preinquest into his death

:03:48. > :03:54.will be held in January. The UK government has welcomed

:03:55. > :03:57.a move by the EU to impose tariffs on a steel product

:03:58. > :04:01.from China and Russia. Cold rolled steel - which is used

:04:02. > :04:05.in white goods and cars - is also produced at TATA's plant

:04:06. > :04:08.in Port Talbot. Many observers have blamed

:04:09. > :04:11.the dumping of cheaper imports for the difficulties the UK steel

:04:12. > :04:17.industry has been experiencing. The latest radio listening

:04:18. > :04:19.figures show that audiences for BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru

:04:20. > :04:23.have reached their lowest Radio Wales has lost 75

:04:24. > :04:33.thousand listeners compared to the same period last year -

:04:34. > :04:37.and Radio Cymru has The BBC says the results

:04:38. > :04:40.were "disappointing." A water bottling company has

:04:41. > :04:42.strongly denied claims that it could be causing environmental

:04:43. > :04:45.damage in the countryside Landowners and environmentalists

:04:46. > :04:50.have raised the alarm claiming land is sinking and the natural

:04:51. > :04:54.springs drying up close to Princes Gate Spring

:04:55. > :04:57.Water in Pembrokeshire. Natural Resources Wales say

:04:58. > :05:01.they are powerless to investigate until a new law comes

:05:02. > :05:04.into force later this year. This area used to be a prime spot

:05:05. > :05:11.for salmon and sea trout. The water level came

:05:12. > :05:15.to the bottom of the tree. The last four, five, six years,

:05:16. > :05:19.the water level's dropped so considerably that there's

:05:20. > :05:22.no access for the fish So, they can't get through here?

:05:23. > :05:29.They can't get through. We're in Prices Gate,

:05:30. > :05:32.not far from the spring water Last year, the factory announced

:05:33. > :05:38.a major expansion, sinking new boreholes to increase production

:05:39. > :05:42.to a potential equivalent But there are concerns it could be

:05:43. > :05:49.having an adverse effect. I think what's going

:05:50. > :05:56.on here is industrial scale All my friends and associates,

:05:57. > :06:03.farmers and anglers, They've got ground sinkage

:06:04. > :06:09.and loss of water. The natural spring water in this

:06:10. > :06:12.part of Pembrokeshire comes from an aquifer running along this

:06:13. > :06:16.ridgeway supplying a network of streams, which many landowners,

:06:17. > :06:20.a local quarry and farmers Seven have contacted

:06:21. > :06:25.Natural Resources Wales, complaining the water table

:06:26. > :06:28.has dropped in the last few years with springs,

:06:29. > :06:33.like this one, now run dry. We're not asking people to stop

:06:34. > :06:37.bottling and selling water or using water or extracting it

:06:38. > :06:41.in any way whatsoever. We're asking that a proper look

:06:42. > :06:44.is taken at the environment and that the limits are set so that

:06:45. > :06:48.the environment is not drying out. Because Princes Gate

:06:49. > :06:51.are not the only ones abstracting water in this area,

:06:52. > :06:53.they strongly deny that their operations are responsible,

:06:54. > :06:57.saying they brought in industry experts and can find no truth

:06:58. > :07:01.in the allegations. Adding, they monitor with extreme

:07:02. > :07:05.care all water they abstract, measuring the quality,

:07:06. > :07:09.table heights and flow to ensure they meet the highest standard

:07:10. > :07:13.of corporate, social They also say Natural

:07:14. > :07:19.Resources Wales has found no basis for these claims,

:07:20. > :07:24.but the NRW told us they've not investigated them because currently

:07:25. > :07:29.they have no powers to do so. In this part of the country,

:07:30. > :07:32.at the moment, you don't need a licence to extract

:07:33. > :07:34.water from the ground. But legally that position

:07:35. > :07:36.will change later this year with a new water act

:07:37. > :07:39.coming into force. Natural Resources Wales say,

:07:40. > :07:43.when it does, licenses will only be granted if it can be shown

:07:44. > :07:46.they don't have an adverse But operators will have a two year

:07:47. > :07:52.window to apply and there are fears The nursery in Aberystwyth involved

:07:53. > :08:01.with a child being left on a minibus for two hours

:08:02. > :08:04.on the hottest day of Camau Bach was closed

:08:05. > :08:07.for a fortnight An inquiry by the Care

:08:08. > :08:11.and Social Services After two weeks, parents

:08:12. > :08:19.were eventually allowed to bring their children back

:08:20. > :08:22.to Camau Bach Nursery this morning. An investigation is still ongoing

:08:23. > :08:26.into just how a three-year-old boy could be left alone

:08:27. > :08:29.on their minibus for two hours The member of staff responsible

:08:30. > :08:34.for the child was immediately However, there's still

:08:35. > :08:40.concern from many parents. For Rachel Harrison,

:08:41. > :08:41.it's her daughter's Working full-time, this

:08:42. > :08:46.is the most convenient nursery I have no other option,

:08:47. > :08:49.unfortunately. I have to work, I have to earn

:08:50. > :08:53.a living and this is my only option at the moment

:08:54. > :08:55.to send my daughter here. I've also spoken to some parents

:08:56. > :08:59.who want to remain anonymous. One parent told me she took her

:09:00. > :09:02.children straight out of the nursery the day after the incident

:09:03. > :09:06.as she was so concerned. Another parent told me

:09:07. > :09:09.she would take her child out of this nursery but has been unable

:09:10. > :09:11.to because she can't find Because she works full-time,

:09:12. > :09:16.she has no other alternative but today she was scared

:09:17. > :09:21.to send her child back. Finding places at an alternative has

:09:22. > :09:24.proved difficult for many parents with the closure of Penglais nursery

:09:25. > :09:28.in the town just this week. While private Nursery Little Angels

:09:29. > :09:34.has taken on two children. Luke Veasey and Amanda Gwalchma

:09:35. > :09:37.were considering sending their three-month-old baby to Camau

:09:38. > :09:40.Bach. Obviously, with what happened,

:09:41. > :09:44.he's definitely not going to go there now but we probably

:09:45. > :09:50.would have sent him. Many parents are just relieved it's

:09:51. > :09:56.reopened and want to move on. Obviously want to see the full

:09:57. > :10:00.report of what happened and how everything is going

:10:01. > :10:04.to be going forward. I'm perfectly happy,

:10:05. > :10:07.she's always gone in with a smile on her face and she's always come

:10:08. > :10:10.out with a smile on her face. I've always found the

:10:11. > :10:15.staff here very good. This is a flagship nursery

:10:16. > :10:18.for the charity, Medead Maythrin and today they confirmed a member

:10:19. > :10:20.of staff still remains suspended. The council safeguarding board has

:10:21. > :10:22.now completed its enquiry and they say the nursery

:10:23. > :10:25.will continue to work closely with the care and social services

:10:26. > :10:27.inspectorate to ensure appropriate At the National Eisteddfod

:10:28. > :10:33.in Abergavenny, the Drama medal went

:10:34. > :10:37.to Hefin Robinson from Carmarthen. He came third in the competition two

:10:38. > :10:41.years ago and second last year. His drama Estron meaning 'foreigner

:10:42. > :10:44.or stranger' beat off competition from eleven

:10:45. > :10:49.other entrants this year. In Rio, 23 Welsh athletes

:10:50. > :10:53.are preparing to take centre stage ahead of the Olympics'

:10:54. > :10:56.opening ceremony tomorrow. Boxer Joe Cordina will face

:10:57. > :11:00.Charly Suarez from the Phillipines Sailor Hannah Mills,

:11:01. > :11:06.who won silver four years ago, has spoken out about the dirty

:11:07. > :11:11.sailing waters of Marina de Gloria. Obviously the water quality is a big

:11:12. > :11:15.deal because no-one wants a medal to be won or lost on someone getting

:11:16. > :11:18.ill or someone hitting a piece But you know, as sailors at some

:11:19. > :11:23.point, we have to just... Enough's enough and we're racing

:11:24. > :11:26.and we're racing here and just get Closer to home - let's see

:11:27. > :11:43.what the weather has We can look forward to a lot of

:11:44. > :11:48.sunshine tomorrow and it isn't mostly dry as well. Overnight, it

:11:49. > :11:53.should be dry with clear skies. Temperatures between 11 to 14

:11:54. > :11:58.Celsius. On the cool side, the winds are light from a south-westerly

:11:59. > :12:01.direction. High pressure from the south west tomorrow, this front will

:12:02. > :12:06.bring a bit of Clyde with that later on in the day. Tomorrow morning,

:12:07. > :12:11.some sunshine, it is drag and you can preview and Bell at home. During

:12:12. > :12:17.the day, some cloud coming through and the sunshine will be hazy. A

:12:18. > :12:22.small risk of an isolated shower, King yourself unlucky if you catch

:12:23. > :12:27.one. If they lay quiet day, plenty of dry and bright weather the few

:12:28. > :12:34.showers across Northern Ireland, western part of Scotland, the wind

:12:35. > :12:39.is picking up, by the end the day. Here in Wales, a lot of dry and

:12:40. > :12:43.bright weather to look forward to tomorrow afternoon. Plenty of dry

:12:44. > :12:47.and bright weather, temperatures getting up to 21 Celsius. The winds

:12:48. > :12:49.light to moderate from a south-westerly direction but they

:12:50. > :12:55.will pick up a little bit as we heading tomorrow night. Tomorrow

:12:56. > :13:01.night, largely dry story. Temperatures on the mild side.

:13:02. > :13:04.Saturday is looking good as well. More sunshine. Feeling a warm and

:13:05. > :13:10.humid but through the day, the cloud will increase, rain likely across

:13:11. > :13:15.Pembrokeshire but the bulk of the country will be dry with some brisk

:13:16. > :13:20.winds as we head into Saturday night. Sunday, a wet start, patchy

:13:21. > :13:22.rain, becoming drier and brighter by the afternoon.

:13:23. > :13:33.Thank you for watching. Goodnight.
