:01:08. > :01:09.long-term commitment to Bridgend. Here's our business

:02:15. > :02:17.that can go to that plant. I don't think the signals a move
:02:18. > :02:21.out of the UK as such. This is a very successful plant,
:02:22. > :02:24.it has been in the Ford Group in many years and I don't think
:02:25. > :02:27.they will be wanting to lose that plant or indeed some
:02:28. > :02:29.of the flexibility it offers being in the Sterling zone
:02:30. > :02:32.and outside the Eurozone. So I think they'll keep
:02:33. > :02:35.it for the time being, but in the longer term,
:02:36. > :02:37.the Bridgend plant has Ford say that no jobs will be lost
:02:38. > :02:42.as a result of this decision to It says people will be redeployed
:02:43. > :02:48.at the site but it's unclear how this would be the case given that
:02:49. > :02:51.other manufacturing work there is coming to an end and has
:02:52. > :02:56.not yet been replaced. Ford told workers this move
:02:57. > :03:01.was about flexibility. There's so much going
:03:02. > :03:04.on in automotive at the moment. Smaller engines, hybrid
:03:05. > :03:06.engines, alternative fuel. I think this is Ford just saying,
:03:07. > :03:10."Hang on a second. We'll give ourselves
:03:11. > :03:13.a little space here. Yes, we are making
:03:14. > :03:16.the investment for Wales, yes, we will have the same level of jobs
:03:17. > :03:21.but, at the moment, we are going to halve that number
:03:22. > :03:24.that we thought we might need." The news will concern people
:03:25. > :03:28.across the South Wales region. What the statement said is that
:03:29. > :03:31.we'll go from 750 jobs to 550. They say there will not
:03:32. > :03:36.be any redundancies. My concern is how
:03:37. > :03:39.that actually works. They are saying redistribution,
:03:40. > :03:41.but I'd like some confirmation And I think that Unite the union
:03:42. > :03:45.have been clear that there Ford is one of the biggest employers
:03:46. > :03:50.in Wales but it is operating Unions are increasingly concerned

:07:56. > :07:58.and are afraid of speaking out On strike in the 1960s,
:07:59. > :08:08.but are some of those kind of working practices
:08:09. > :08:11.still with us today? The GMB Union is unhappy
:08:12. > :08:14.with the treatment of agency staff here at Amgen Cymru,
:08:15. > :08:17.near Aberdare, which processes I'm hearing of employees turning up
:08:18. > :08:23.to work in this organisation, working for an hour and then
:08:24. > :08:27.being tapped on the shoulder to be sent home with no pay
:08:28. > :08:29.because they filled their quota. That's 1960s-type employment
:08:30. > :08:33.practices. It shouldn't happen
:08:34. > :08:40.in the 21st-century. Rhondda Cynon Taff Council set up
:08:41. > :08:43.Amgen Cymru back in the 1990s. The council pays Amgen
:08:44. > :08:45.for waste services. Amgen employs some of its workers
:08:46. > :08:47.through an agency - That agency also used another
:08:48. > :08:54.company to pay staff in the past. The union says this
:08:55. > :08:58.is confusing for workers. It says some were told to pay
:08:59. > :09:00.for replacement equipment, told to pay for copies of pay slips
:09:01. > :09:04.and lost out on national insurance payments because they were paid
:09:05. > :09:09.partly in expenses. The agency which supplies staff
:09:10. > :09:13.here says this is the first it has ever heard of any concerns
:09:14. > :09:17.about its practices at the site. It said it has never charged
:09:18. > :09:21.employees for a payslip and only charges for personal protection
:09:22. > :09:23.equipment if it's repeatedly The company says it always complies
:09:24. > :09:30.with all the relevant employment rules and there is no
:09:31. > :09:33.suggestion at all it has done But it also says it is now holding
:09:34. > :09:39.surgeries at the site with employees It's a move from the public sector
:09:40. > :09:44.to the private sector It is inevitable that we will see
:09:45. > :09:50.more creativity, perhaps, Some of those could be
:09:51. > :09:57.for the benefit of employees but, at the same time, human labour
:09:58. > :09:59.is one of the biggest Rhondda Cynon Taff Council said
:10:00. > :10:05.contracts are a matter for Amgen as it is a privately run company
:10:06. > :10:08.but the council also said it has received reassurances about
:10:09. > :10:15.the matters the union has raised. The future of salmon fishing
