:00:45. > :00:46.by their local Health Boards than ever before.

:00:47. > :00:49.And according to figures seen by this programme

:00:50. > :00:52.gathered by the grassroots organisation GP Survival

:00:53. > :01:02.An empty waiting room at a doctor's surgery is normally a welcome sight

:01:03. > :01:07.GP, Dr Naoko Koto, has been running the Horeb

:01:08. > :01:09.surgery in Treorchy on her own for a year.

:01:10. > :01:15.She is handing back the surgery's contract to the Cwm Taf Local

:01:16. > :01:20.Health Board, her thousands of patients have to find a new GP.

:01:21. > :01:25.Looking after 3,200 patients on my own, I felt

:01:26. > :01:33.It was not sustainable as a long-term option.

:01:34. > :01:35.Difficulties around recruiting new GPs across Wales is

:01:36. > :01:42.Last year, locum GP, Sophie Quinney, sent Freedom of Information

:01:43. > :01:46.requests to all seven local health boards in Wales.

:01:47. > :01:50.She wanted to know how many GP surgeries have closed since 2010.

:01:51. > :01:55.She also asked how many had handed back their contracts and

:01:56. > :01:57.were now run directly by the health boards.

:01:58. > :02:00.12 months on, she has asked the same questions again and the

:02:01. > :02:03.figures suggest the situation is getting worse.

:02:04. > :02:07.In the past year, eight surgeries in North Wales have been taken over

:02:08. > :02:12.In Cwm Taf, five surgeries have given

:02:13. > :02:17.up their contracts or are closing. More than in any year since 2010.

:02:18. > :02:20.But in Cardiff and Vale, there was some better news.

:02:21. > :02:23.No surgeries have been taken over by the health board

:02:24. > :02:29.Across Wales, 20 GP surgeries had to close or be taken over

:02:30. > :02:32.in just one year compared to 33 in the previous five

:02:33. > :02:40.If we are not understood and supported now, I think the sad

:02:41. > :02:45.news is that for patients and communities it's going to spell

:02:46. > :02:48.the end of what we understand to be the family doctor.

:02:49. > :02:52.The GP appointed by the Welsh Goverment to solve the problem says

:02:53. > :02:55.recruiting more GPs is just part of the solution.

:02:56. > :03:01.In order to enable the GP to have enough time to see the patients

:03:02. > :03:04.who really need to see the GP, and the GP really wants to see

:03:05. > :03:08.a more proactive way then we need to use the range of other health

:03:09. > :03:12.professional services and the other services in general.

:03:13. > :03:16.Whatever happens to solve this problem it will come too

:03:17. > :03:22.She's leaving Horeb and Treorchy to work at another GP surgery.

:03:23. > :03:28.A trend health professionals say needs to change and fast.

:03:29. > :03:32.An organised crime gang has been jailed for a total of more than 43

:03:33. > :03:35.years following a spate of burglaries across north Wales

:03:36. > :03:43.The men from the traveller community stole items worth more than ?100,00.

:03:44. > :03:50.This was the moment one of the gang was arrested,

:03:51. > :03:53.part of a co-ordinated series of raids involving more than

:03:54. > :03:57.John James Purcell was detained at a travellers site in Wrexham.

:03:58. > :04:00.He and his colleagues carried out a series of burglaries in spring

:04:01. > :04:03.and summer last year in north Wales, the north west of England,

:04:04. > :04:06.and the Midlands targeting predominantly Asian families

:04:07. > :04:09.who were storing high value jewellery at their homes.

:04:10. > :04:12.Often the gold is purer than in Western jewellery.

:04:13. > :04:17.Burglary is a traumatic instance for anybody.

:04:18. > :04:20.The impact of these burglaries was potentially more

:04:21. > :04:22.because of the mess they created and the items

:04:23. > :04:27.That is why it is a priority, any offence of burglary is a priority

:04:28. > :04:30.It'll remain a priority to the police.

:04:31. > :04:33.Most of the victims were originally from the Indian subcontinent,

:04:34. > :04:38.Many follow the custom of passing valuable jewellery to their children

:04:39. > :04:41.but these burglaries have caused many to change their ways.

:04:42. > :04:45.Dr Farook Jishi from Wrexham knows some of those who were targeted.

:04:46. > :04:51.Many of these items are handed down generation after generation so they

:04:52. > :04:55.have got a lot of sentimental value in addition to the fact they are

:04:56. > :05:00.gold from the Asian subcontinent which is high carat and people have

:05:01. > :05:09.They hire safe deposit boxes or whatever.

:05:10. > :05:13.The members of three families made up the majority

:05:14. > :05:17.of the gang which was well coordinated and used stolen

:05:18. > :05:19.high performance cars to carry out their thefts.

:05:20. > :05:21.They tried to destroy evidence by using bleach

:05:22. > :05:25.And they wore clothes, hats and even Beatles style wigs

:05:26. > :05:26.from charity shops to disguise themselves.

:05:27. > :05:30.But thanks to information from witnesses and CCTV cameras

:05:31. > :05:34.the gang aged from 18 to 47 was identified and caught.

:05:35. > :05:37.Nine men were jailed for between two and six and a half years.

:05:38. > :05:40.The judge Niclas Parri told them this was professional criminal

:05:41. > :05:44.conduct which left homeowners terrified.

:05:45. > :05:47.A man accused of murdering a schoolgirl from Flintshire 40

:05:48. > :05:50.years ago has appeared at Mold Crown Court.

:05:51. > :05:52.Stephen Hough, who's 57 and from Flint, is charged

:05:53. > :05:56.with the rape, sexual assault and murder of 15-year-old

:05:57. > :06:01.He spoke only to confirm his name via video link.

:06:02. > :06:04.The case was adjourned until December.

:06:05. > :06:19.A head teacher has defended excluding 72 pupils from regular

:06:20. > :06:25.The driver and his passenger also known as Jodi died when the Ford

:06:26. > :06:29.Fiesta collided with a Peugeot in the Conwy Valley last October. 82

:07:09. > :07:16.To commemorate the first crossing of the Severn bridge I have great

:07:24. > :07:28.While the Queen became one of the first to cross,

:07:29. > :07:32.reporters spoke to very patient paying passengers.

:07:33. > :07:35.A man from Cardiff was first in the queue.

:09:10. > :09:13.millions of vehicles and employs a small army of engineers.

:09:25. > :09:30.What that bridge and bridges do is open up South Wales
