:00:08. > :00:10.for the retrial for rape of former Wales international
:00:11. > :00:12.And another day, another Welsh football coach fired.
:00:13. > :00:31.This time, Cardiff sack Paul Trollope.
:00:32. > :00:34.The retrial of former Wales international footballer,
:00:35. > :00:36.Ched Evans, has begun at Cardiff Crown Court.
:00:37. > :00:40.Evans is accused of raping a woman after a night out in Rhyl in 2011.
:00:41. > :00:43.He denies the offence and was in court today having won
:00:44. > :00:53.an appeal against his original conviction back in 2012.
:00:54. > :00:55.The jury was told the alleged victim remembered "practically
:00:56. > :00:57.nothing" of the night and was too drunk to consent.
:00:58. > :01:12.Supported once again by his partner, Ched Evans is back in court to try
:01:13. > :01:17.to clear his name once and for all. He started his professional career
:01:18. > :01:23.at Manchester City in 2002. 13 Wales caps followed. In 2009, he signed
:01:24. > :01:28.for Sheffield United for ?3 million. But in 2012, that Korea paused. He
:01:29. > :01:33.and fellow footballer Clayton MacDonald were charged and stood
:01:34. > :01:37.trial for rape. The jury at Caernarfon Crown Court acquitted
:01:38. > :01:43.MacDonald, but found Mr Heaven is guilty. He served half of a
:01:44. > :01:48.five-year sentence. But new evidence emerged, his conviction was quashed,
:01:49. > :01:51.and a retrial was ordered. Ched Evans is extremely grateful
:01:52. > :01:55.that because of appeal has ruled that his conviction for rape was
:01:56. > :01:58.unsafe and should be quashed. For the first time in four years,
:01:59. > :02:03.Ched Evans is playing professional football once again. For the league
:02:04. > :02:07.one side Chesterfield. There is no prospect of Ched Evans going back to
:02:08. > :02:11.jail. He has already served a custodial sentence as part of that
:02:12. > :02:15.first trial, but he has always maintained he is innocent in all of
:02:16. > :02:20.this, and that this retrial over the next two weeks, he will hope the
:02:21. > :02:25.jury will agree. It is the prosecution case that after a night
:02:26. > :02:28.out in real inmate 2011, Ched Evans' friend Clayton MacDonald took a
:02:29. > :02:31.woman back to a hotel to have sex. But the court was told today that
:02:32. > :02:37.Ched Evans also had sex with the woman in that hotel room. It is
:02:38. > :02:44.alleged she was too drunk to be able to consent to sex with Mr Evans.
:02:45. > :02:47.Prosecuting, the QC said, we submit she was so intoxicated, for whatever
:02:48. > :02:55.reason, that she did not know what was happening. Sex without consent
:02:56. > :03:00.the prosecution also told the jury that although Ched Evans was and
:03:01. > :03:05.still is a well-known footballer, they should put aside any media
:03:06. > :03:08.commentary or the views of anyone else during this retrial.
:03:09. > :03:11.The cord heard that some comments, especially those made online, were
:03:12. > :03:14.one-sided and often unhelpful. Councils here will be
:03:15. > :03:16.forced to work together, pooling their resources
:03:17. > :03:19.with neighbouring authorities to provide key services
:03:20. > :03:22.like social care and transport. It comes after the Welsh government
:03:23. > :03:27.dropped plans to cut 22 councils But there are concerns that regional
:03:28. > :03:32.committees would add another layer of bureaucracy
:03:33. > :03:45.and reduce accountability. Local authorities work together in
:03:46. > :03:50.all sorts of ways already. What we don't have is a systematic approach
:03:51. > :03:54.to it, and we don't have an approach where local authorities know that
:03:55. > :03:58.this is required of them. It is optional, and it is very mixed, but
:03:59. > :04:02.they do it, and there is no suggestion that this is somehow a
:04:03. > :04:03.new tier of local government, or that you can't have answer ability
:04:04. > :04:04.in it. Six members of staff have been
:04:05. > :04:07.suspended at a mental health unit The action was taken
:04:08. > :04:11.at Bryn Hesketh Unit after concerns were raised by another member
:04:12. > :04:13.of staff over some Betsi Cadwaladr University Health
:04:14. > :04:31.Board says an independent The cost is yet to settle on the
:04:32. > :04:33.scandal that rocked North Wales just last year, and here we are yet again
:04:34. > :04:39.with concerns being raised about aspects of care on another mental
:04:40. > :04:43.health unit in North Wales, so I am very concerned, particularly for the
:04:44. > :04:44.families and patients that might be involved.
:04:45. > :04:47.A 33-year-old man from Cardiff has been charged with six terrorism
:04:48. > :04:48.offences, including membership of so-called Islamic State.
:04:49. > :04:50.Samata Ullah was arrested last Tuesday by the Metropolitian Police
:04:51. > :04:52.Counter Terrorism Command supported by the Wales Extremism
:04:53. > :04:56.Two houses in the city were also searched as part
:04:57. > :05:06.Fire crews were called to Caerphilly railway station during this
:05:07. > :05:10.evening's rush-hour after a blaze which is thought to have broken out
:05:11. > :05:15.Emergency services were called at around 5.30 and the train
:05:16. > :05:19.was evacuated - it's also had an effect on services tonight,
:05:20. > :05:24.Another day, and another Welsh football club sacks its coach.
:05:25. > :05:30.Today, after five months in the job, Cardiff City sacked Paul Trollope.
:05:31. > :05:34.The Bluebirds are second from bottom in the Championship after only
:05:35. > :05:42.two wins in 11 matches. Ben Price reports.
:05:43. > :05:49.It has been three seasons since Cardiff City rubbed shoulders with
:05:50. > :05:53.English football's elite, but with just eight points from 11 games in
:05:54. > :05:56.the championship so far, a return to the Premier League is all but a
:05:57. > :05:59.distant dream. It was all change once again at Cardiff City at the
:06:00. > :06:04.start of the season. Enter Paul Trollope, once a coach at the club,
:06:05. > :06:10.he was soon handed the top job back in May. This is a club with big
:06:11. > :06:14.expectations, and so, an eighth place finish last year was not
:06:15. > :06:16.enough to satisfy the bosses. So the new head coach promised to deliver
:06:17. > :06:19.the goods. We are going to try and hit the
:06:20. > :06:25.ground running. We're going to try to give the fans a team they are
:06:26. > :06:28.proud of, and proud to support, and proud to watch.
:06:29. > :06:31.But that hasn't quite happened. They aren't shocking position,
:06:32. > :06:33.second from bottom in the championship.
:06:34. > :06:36.They have lost six of their last seven games, having scored in seven
:06:37. > :06:40.of the 11 championship games they have played in. It has not been good
:06:41. > :06:43.enough, and looking at Paul, he doesn't look like a man or a manager
:06:44. > :06:48.who can turn things around, so the club had to react.
:06:49. > :06:50.Despite very little activity in the summer transfer window, some may
:06:51. > :06:54.argue the current team has enough experience to get themselves back up
:06:55. > :06:58.the table. It has been a tumultuous few years for the Bluebirds
:06:59. > :07:02.faithful, both on and off the field. Since a change and a few years ago,
:07:03. > :07:06.there have been fallout and protests over changes to club colours under
:07:07. > :07:10.the big decisions. It has left many fans feeling fed up.
:07:11. > :07:16.We have got a lack of experience, within the football world, on the
:07:17. > :07:21.board. We have got people who have got good financial backgrounds, but
:07:22. > :07:23.no football experience, and that has proved, you know, the way we were
:07:24. > :07:27.rebranded. I think the coach has a lot to do
:07:28. > :07:29.with the results, so unfortunately, I think some blame has to be had by
:07:30. > :07:33.him. With an international break this
:07:34. > :07:36.weekend, Cardiff now have ten days to find a replacement. The question
:07:37. > :07:37.is, who will be ready for such a challenge?
:07:38. > :07:39.The equally uncertain world of the weather next -
:07:40. > :07:48.Thank you, Jamie. Well, October is normally the wettest month of the
:07:49. > :07:52.year here in Wales, but we're not expecting much of any rain this
:07:53. > :07:56.week, with the emphasis being on a lots of dry weather over the next
:07:57. > :08:02.few days. Breezy, and it will turn cooler over the next couple of days.
:08:03. > :08:05.For tonight, plenty of cloud around, which may be thick enough for the
:08:06. > :08:13.odd spot of drizzle, but no more than that. Dry for most of us. Eight
:08:14. > :08:16.breezy night, and those temperatures around 9-11. Tomorrow's chart shows
:08:17. > :08:20.a big area of high pressure over Sweden. This high is like a block of
:08:21. > :08:24.air stopping weather coming in from the Atlantic, and the wind is coming
:08:25. > :08:30.in from the east or Southeast, so tomorrow morning will be breezy,
:08:31. > :08:34.with gusty winds ups blowing, maybe the odd spot of drizzle thirsting
:08:35. > :08:37.and quite cloudy. During the morning, it will tend to brighten up
:08:38. > :08:43.with some sunshine and much of the country dry. Across the rest of the
:08:44. > :08:47.UK, it is a similar story, really. Many places dry, patchy cloud, and
:08:48. > :08:51.Sunny spells. The best of the sunshine in the south and north west
:08:52. > :08:55.of Scotland. Generally cooler than today, only 14 Celsius in
:08:56. > :08:59.Scarborough, 16 in Plymouth, with a keen wind blowing from the east or
:09:00. > :09:03.Southeast. Close to home, a fine afternoon tomorrow. We should see
:09:04. > :09:09.more sunshine than we have seen today. A few patches of cloud in
:09:10. > :09:14.Powys, and temperatures lower, 14-17dC, with that gusty winds from
:09:15. > :09:17.the East or Southeast. Morrow evening, fine and dry, cloud will
:09:18. > :09:22.spread from the East overnight, staying dry, clearing part of the
:09:23. > :09:27.South and West, and a cooler night. Thursday will be a cooler day. An
:09:28. > :09:30.easterly wind brings maybe one or two macro light showers to parts of
:09:31. > :09:34.mid and North Wales, and maybe the odd one in the South as well. Then
:09:35. > :09:38.on Friday, more dry weather. The best of the sunshine in the
:09:39. > :09:42.south-west, no more than the light shower. So, fairly benign weather
:09:43. > :09:44.over next few days. It macro thank you very much.
:09:45. > :09:46.Next tonight, as Wales continue their world cup campaign,
:09:47. > :09:48.former international Dean Saunders looks at how Welsh grassroots
:09:49. > :09:50.football can help keep the Euros dream alive.
:09:51. > :09:57.That's Wales Today. Goodnight.
