:00:43. > :00:49.It has come from the independent im enquiry examining the extent

:00:50. > :00:51.to which organisations like Ccouncils and the NHS failed

:00:52. > :00:58.It is basing a team in Wales, and wants people to

:00:59. > :01:00.share their experiences, as India Pollock reports.

:01:01. > :01:02.Growing up in the 1970s, Tony's childhood was blighted

:01:03. > :01:06.So, he was thrilled when a teacher put his name forward

:01:07. > :01:16.I get a chance to go on holiday and I suppose some respite

:01:17. > :01:26.from the home life I had, which was not the best.

:01:27. > :01:29.But decades on, he remembers the trip for all the wrong reasons.

:01:30. > :01:32.Tony says he was abused by the man who was supposed to be looking

:01:33. > :01:35.after the boys - an event which had a lasting impact.

:01:36. > :01:47.And I became very scared of anyone in authority.

:01:48. > :01:54.My whole schooling after that basically deteriorated.

:01:55. > :01:56.In 2012, long-buried memories were jolted by the revelations

:01:57. > :01:59.about Jimmy Savile and a string of high-profile celebrity

:02:00. > :02:06.Tony finally reported the incident to South Wales Police.

:02:07. > :02:08.They investigated, but concluded that his alleged abuser,

:02:09. > :02:11.now in his eighties and suffering from dementia, was unfit to be

:02:12. > :02:18.interviewed, so the police enquiry stalled.

:02:19. > :02:21.He is now preparing to give evidence to the Truth Project.

:02:22. > :02:24.It is one strand of the independent enquiry, which aims to look

:02:25. > :02:27.at the extent to which both private and public bodies, like councils

:02:28. > :02:29.and the armed forces, failed to protect children

:02:30. > :02:35.The enquiry is basing a team in Wales and they want victims

:02:36. > :02:37.here to get in touch and make an appointment

:02:38. > :02:43.Around 100 people are here in Cardiff today for the launch

:02:44. > :02:47.It has had a bumpy start. Now on its fourth chairwoman

:02:48. > :02:50.and several senior lawyers have resigned in recent weeks.

:02:51. > :02:52.But the woman now leading the enquiry says she's

:02:53. > :02:58.focusing on the future and it is business as usual.

:02:59. > :03:01.Myself and my fellow panel members are absolutely clear and have always

:03:02. > :03:04.been clear about what needs to be done, but we do need the time

:03:05. > :03:09.and the space to get on with this critical work.

:03:10. > :03:12.The enquiry has never been in crisis in terms of the 160-odd

:03:13. > :03:16.They have been getting on with their work very purposively

:03:17. > :03:27.and because they are committed to it.

:03:28. > :03:30.Tony and two other men who claim they, too, were abused by the same

:03:31. > :03:33.youth worker are now pursuing a civil action

:03:34. > :03:35.against Cardiff Council, who they believe employed the man.

:03:36. > :03:38.The council says it takes such allegations very seriously

:03:39. > :03:39.but cannot comment as the case is ongoing.

:03:40. > :03:42.Meanwhile, Tony is putting his faith and trust in the enquiry

:03:43. > :04:00.I am hopeful, that is all I can be, really.

:04:01. > :04:03.The number of people over 50 admitted to hospital

:04:04. > :04:05.for alcohol-related treatment has risen in the last five years,

:04:06. > :04:09.But Public Health Wales says that, overall, there's been a drop of 32%

:04:10. > :04:11.in the number of people hospitalised for alcohol misuse,

:04:12. > :04:19.Steel unions say a decision by Tata to replace its chairman came as

:04:20. > :04:23.Tata Sons, which own Tata Steel, have replaced Cyrus Mistry

:04:24. > :04:28.It has emerged Mr Mistry warned the business will have to write off

:04:29. > :04:29.investments totalling nearly $20 billion.

:04:30. > :04:31.Unions now want clarity on what Ratan Tata's appointment

:04:32. > :04:54.He is an experienced person who knows the business. But what we need

:04:58. > :04:59.Police have described a shop worker who fended off a man wielding

:05:00. > :05:02.a knife as "brave" and her colleagues say she is a "hero".

:05:07. > :05:10.She refuses, raises the alarm and gets out a small baseball bat,

:05:20. > :05:23.I looked at the camera and I could see her then with a bat

:05:24. > :05:26.going for this guy, who obviously had a knife, so I thought, OK,

:05:27. > :05:29.I have to do something and as I was running around to aid

:05:30. > :05:33.So, I think I, kind of, made him aware that there

:05:34. > :05:35.was also someone else in the shop, as well.

:05:36. > :05:39.When you think about it afterwards and you realise the danger and it

:05:40. > :05:40.could have been a lot worse, as well.

:05:41. > :05:43.Like I said, she is the employee of the day, the month.

:05:44. > :05:49.I think rumours have started around that she's Wonder Woman!

:05:50. > :05:52.The RSPCA in Wales is bracing itself for thousands of calls

:05:53. > :05:54.reporting animal neglect over the next few months.

:05:55. > :05:56.Last winter, the charity received nearly 3,000 calls,

:05:57. > :05:58.more than half of them concerning dogs.

:05:59. > :06:04.It has launched a campaign, making people more aware of animals' needs.

:06:05. > :06:07.Two-year-old Mamich is one of many dogs nursed back to health

:06:08. > :06:12.by the RSPCA, who is now looking for a new home.

:06:13. > :06:15.He was brought to the RSPCA's animal centre here in Newport suffering

:06:16. > :06:17.from serious burns, but after treatment,

:06:18. > :06:23.As winter approaches, the charity is bracing itself

:06:24. > :06:31.for thousands more calls reporting animal neglect.

:06:32. > :06:33.In just four months to the end of January

:06:34. > :06:35.this year, the RSPCA in Wales received nearly 3,000 calls

:06:36. > :06:45.reporting animal neglect. Nearly 2,000 concerned dogs.

:06:46. > :06:48.RSPCA Cymru says the bad weather can make things worse for pets,

:06:49. > :06:53.Another annual problem is people giving pets

:06:54. > :06:59.The charity is calling its new campaign Love Animals,

:07:00. > :07:06.Hate Cruelty, to raise awareness of pets' needs.

:07:07. > :07:09.We urge people to do their homework before getting an animal, to make

:07:10. > :07:12.sure that they are equipped, they have the right environment

:07:13. > :07:17.and time and they can provide for that animal.

:07:18. > :07:20.If you are ready to get a pet, consider rehoming.

:07:21. > :07:24.There are animals at this RSPCA centre in Newport

:07:25. > :07:35.Last year the RSPCA rehomed more than 1,700 animals in Wales.

:07:36. > :07:38.But the number of neglected animals shows no sign of decreasing.

:07:39. > :07:40.Around 100 schoolgirls have been at an event in Deeside

:07:41. > :07:43.to encourage more of them to get into motorsport.

:07:44. > :07:45.It is part of the build-up to the Wales Rally GB,

:07:46. > :07:49.The campaign is called Dare To Be Different.

:07:50. > :07:52.We are focused on opening up the sport and inspiring young

:07:53. > :07:55.girls, to make them realise that this is not a world for boys.

:07:56. > :07:57.Sometimes, society's preconception says that only boys

:07:58. > :07:59.should be racing cars and in motorsport, but I

:08:00. > :08:01.actually had a fantastic career in motorsport and there are many

:08:02. > :08:07.successful woman working in the different areas of it.
