:00:50. > :00:56.Here's our Business Correspondent Brian Meechan.

:00:57. > :00:59.Darkness tonight in the Merthyr Tydfil plant which 2 Sisters

:01:00. > :01:05.It could be set to lose a third of its workforce at the factory that

:01:06. > :01:12.Around 700 will remain working on the cattle and lamb slaughter

:01:13. > :01:16.and cutting side of the business, which received ?1.2 million of Welsh

:01:17. > :01:19.government funding six years ago for new equipment.

:01:20. > :01:23.It's the packing operations, packing steaks and chops,

:01:24. > :01:25.that looks set to be moved to Cornwall.

:01:26. > :01:31.350 potential job losses will have a massive impact

:01:32. > :01:36.We suffer from, or have historically suffered from,

:01:37. > :01:39.poverty and disadvantage in that area.

:01:40. > :01:43.We are actually on the up now in terms of the regeneration that

:01:44. > :01:46.has gone on in the heads of the valley, along that

:01:47. > :01:49.area, the good transport links that we have got.

:01:50. > :01:53.So this is going to be a huge step backwards.

:01:54. > :01:56.Merthyr has had positive news recently with 400 jobs to be

:01:57. > :02:00.created at the new Trago Mills retail centre.

:02:01. > :02:04.And General Dynamics will employ 750 people in the town

:02:05. > :02:07.at its factory where it assembles and tests its new armoured vehicles

:02:08. > :02:12.The announcement from 2 Sisters, though, is a blow to

:02:13. > :02:15.the progress being made in Merthyr's regeneration.

:02:16. > :02:20.The company's previous restructuring also had an impact on Anglesey,

:02:21. > :02:22.where over 200 people lost their jobs at a

:02:23. > :02:28.Unions say the potential job losses at Merthyr are devastating

:02:29. > :02:32.for a loyal workforce but 2 Sisters argues that trading conditions make

:02:33. > :02:37.The Welsh government says it will work with the company,

:02:38. > :02:39.unions and employees to try to minimise the impact

:02:40. > :02:45.A man from Ystrad Mynach near Caerphilly has been jailed

:02:46. > :02:50.for life for murdering his 75-year-old mother with a chainsaw.

:02:51. > :02:54.Robert Owens, had traces of heroin and cocaine in his blood

:02:55. > :02:59.when he killed Iris Owens who was hangingout washing.

:03:00. > :03:02.He'll serve a minimum of 12 and a half years in prison.

:03:03. > :03:05.A murder investigation has begun into the fatal stabbing of a man

:03:06. > :03:09.from Caernarfon described as a "good brother and son".

:03:10. > :03:13.42-year-old Phillip Owen was stabbed in the neck and found dead on a road

:03:14. > :03:17.The police are calling for anyone with any

:03:18. > :03:25.What you experience in childhood will affect your long-term health

:03:26. > :03:28.resulting in greater dependence on the NHS.

:03:29. > :03:31.That's the finding of new Public Health Wales research.

:03:32. > :03:35.So children who are exposed to abuse, domestic violence or other

:03:36. > :03:38.stresses are far more likely to develop health problems.

:03:39. > :03:42.It's prompted calls for public bodies to work more closely.

:03:43. > :03:47.Our Health Correspondent Owain Clarke has this special report.

:04:18. > :04:19.Encouraging and teaching pupils to live healthily is a key priority

:04:20. > :04:26.But bad experiences in childhood, such as being exposed to abuse

:04:27. > :04:29.or domestic violence, or even seeing parents

:04:30. > :04:34.separate, can have serious and lifelong health consequences.

:04:35. > :04:37.New research suggests children who have had four or more

:04:38. > :04:40.adverse experiences - around 14% of the population -

:04:41. > :04:43.are three times more likely to develop lung or heart disease

:04:44. > :04:48.They are also four times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

:04:49. > :04:51.Those who have had difficult childhoods are more likely

:04:52. > :04:57.As your body develops, it is used to being ready to be

:04:58. > :05:04.What we have got to focus on is, instead of mending broken adults,

:05:05. > :05:07.we have got to build stronger children.

:05:08. > :05:11.But a child can experience adverse incidents even before birth.

:05:12. > :05:15.Things like domestic abuse, violence in the household, shouting,

:05:16. > :05:20.Of course, those things are going to cause stress to a baby,

:05:21. > :05:25.and will impact on that baby's development.

:05:26. > :05:27.Emerging research suggests the effects could also be passed

:05:28. > :05:32.through the genes from one generation to the next.

:05:33. > :05:34.This is not just a challenge for the NHS.

:05:35. > :05:38.A child who has had four or more adverse experiences is also 15 times

:05:39. > :05:41.more likely to be a perpetrator of violence, and 14 times more

:05:42. > :05:45.That's why the Police and Crime Commissioner

:05:46. > :05:50.If there is a domestic dispute and a child is seeing it,

:05:51. > :05:56.or a parent getting blind drunk, What effect does that have?

:05:57. > :06:03.All of those things are likely to have an impact.

:06:04. > :06:05.Back at this school, and the mealtime game

:06:06. > :06:09.In trying to prevent health problems later on,

:06:10. > :06:12.inspiring children to eat well and exercise is important,

:06:13. > :06:15.but also essential is trying to ensure in the first instance

:06:16. > :06:22.A man from Flintshire who was involved in a car crash

:06:23. > :06:26.while he was on holiday in Greece 13 years ago has won his fight

:06:27. > :06:29.against extradition to serve a prison sentence there.

:06:30. > :06:32.Paul Wright from Mold was convicted in his absence of criminal damage

:06:33. > :06:37.and sentenced to 15 months in a Greek jail.

:06:38. > :06:44.My children still don't know what has happened today.
