:01:14. > :01:17.disinfectant that will get rid of any of the virus.

:01:18. > :01:19.Elaine Franks is taking bio-security very seriously, usually

:01:20. > :01:23.her 100 prize chickens roam free here, but since the recent case of

:01:24. > :01:29.avian flu, she has kept them in makeshift pens

:01:30. > :01:33.in the greenhouse and they'll have to stay

:01:34. > :01:36.here until the end of February at least.

:01:37. > :01:39.For me as a lifetime poultry keeper, it is pretty devastating,

:01:40. > :01:42.really. It is on par with foot and mouth.

:01:43. > :01:44.I have lived through two foot and mouth outbreaks

:01:45. > :01:48.and for poultry it's the same.

:01:49. > :01:50.These birds are completely irreplaceable.

:01:51. > :01:53.They are, a lot of them, the result of two lifetimes

:01:54. > :01:59.I can't go out and buy another bunch of birds to replace

:02:00. > :02:05.The extension of restrictions on keeping poultry comes after a

:02:06. > :02:12.Yesterday a domestic flock of chickens and ducks

:02:13. > :02:16.A 3km protection zone has been set up around the area

:02:17. > :02:20.as well as a 10km surveillance zone which aims to stop

:02:21. > :02:25.The same strain of bird flu was also discovered just before

:02:26. > :02:29.Christmas, and on a turkey farm in Lincolnshire earlier in December.

:02:30. > :02:33.Infected birds have arrived in Great Britain, we know

:02:34. > :02:36.that from the findings in Wales England and

:02:37. > :02:40.Scotland now, and we can't control any of that.

:02:41. > :02:43.But what we can do is everything possible to protect

:02:44. > :02:46.our own domestic flock and bringing them indoors is the best way to

:02:47. > :02:54.Ian Williams is a poultry farmer and can have up to 200,000 chickens

:02:55. > :02:58.Cameras were not allowed onto the farm today but

:02:59. > :03:01.had to film from a distance as he is taking every

:03:02. > :03:05.precaution possible to stop avian flu reaching the site.

:03:06. > :03:07.We are only allowing essential visitors

:03:08. > :03:10.onto the site so we have to have a few deliveries

:03:11. > :03:14.for the chickens and so lorries that are doing essential

:03:15. > :03:19.deliveries like that are allowed on site but no other visitors.

:03:20. > :03:22.It is a massive risk to me that my livelihood will be affected

:03:23. > :03:28.hugely if I got avian flu on this farm.

:03:29. > :03:30.Those who keep more than 50 birds are required

:03:31. > :03:32.to sign up to a poultry register, but tonight

:03:33. > :03:35.the Welsh government is urging those with fewer

:03:36. > :03:39.It also said they should look out for any symptoms which

:03:40. > :03:42.includes birds not laying eggs or eating and any swelling

:03:43. > :03:47.on the birds, but there is no risk to human health.

:03:48. > :03:50.With news tonight that over a million ducks will be culled in

:03:51. > :03:52.France over the coming months Elaine fears a full-scale

:03:53. > :03:54.outbreak could cross the Channel.

:03:55. > :03:57.The advice is to avoid any contact with wild birds,

:03:58. > :04:02.to disinfect and keep movement to a minimum if you come

:04:03. > :04:05.Failure to do so could have serious consequences

:04:06. > :04:10.A former soldier from Carmarthenshire has been sentenced

:07:42. > :07:44.homes being refurbished across the country, the concerns

:07:45. > :07:52.here were not representative of the majority of its tenants.
