:00:40. > :00:45.With cases at a seasonal high they're urging patients to make

:00:46. > :00:49.appointments only if their symptoms become more serious.

:00:50. > :00:52.And all seven of Wales' healthboards have told us that

:00:53. > :00:54.with hospitals feeling the knock on effect,

:00:55. > :00:58.people need to make sure they access the right care.

:00:59. > :01:06.Like many GP practices this one in Swansea has seen its waiting room

:01:07. > :01:12.It's a similar picture across Wales as patients are reported to be

:01:13. > :01:16.turning up with common cold symptoms or a cough.

:01:17. > :01:19.Something GPs say they can do nothing about.

:01:20. > :01:22.Patients seem to think that antibiotics will clear

:01:23. > :01:29.They do nothing for viral infections, which most of these are.

:01:30. > :01:33.With the demand from patients it is more difficult to access

:01:34. > :01:36.It means they have more difficulty getting

:01:37. > :01:42.Busy surgeries mean busy hospitals with patients choosing to visit A

:01:43. > :01:48.All seven health boards in Wales are warning against this tonight due

:01:49. > :01:54.As is the Welsh Ambulance Service which says the number of 999 calls

:01:55. > :01:59.it receives for nonemergencies is also up as a result.

:02:00. > :02:03.Christmas and New Year and the winter pressures.

:02:04. > :02:06.What we are asking people is to choose wisely and only

:02:07. > :02:10.call the 999 system if it is a dire emergency.

:02:11. > :02:14.The NHS is advising patients to look beyond the hospital or local surgery

:02:15. > :02:17.and find an alternative in an effort to alleviate

:02:18. > :02:19.the growing pressure on the health service.

:02:20. > :02:26.Pharmacies like this one in Cardiff are very much at the front line.

:02:27. > :02:29.The pharmacist can assess patients and decide what help they need

:02:30. > :02:33.freeing up GPs to look after more complex cases.

:02:34. > :02:37.There is capacity for community pharmacies to take on new services

:02:38. > :02:43.We have the flu vaccination programme which pharmacies

:02:44. > :02:47.are providing which is well received by the public.

:02:48. > :02:49.Then we have the Choose Pharmacy scheme which has been

:02:50. > :02:58.In Swansea a new 111 phone line is being trialled

:02:59. > :03:00.where people can discuss symptoms from home with

:03:01. > :03:06.With winter pressures on the health service showing no signs of easing

:03:07. > :03:10.the message remains for everyone to consider their options before seeing

:03:11. > :03:16.North Wales Health Board has admitted breaching its duty of care

:03:17. > :03:20.to a patient with paranoid schizophrenia who was found dead

:03:21. > :03:26.36-year-old Iwan Lewis, from Penygroes, was being treated

:03:27. > :03:28.at the Hergest Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

:03:29. > :03:30.His mother, Elizabeth, accused Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board

:03:31. > :03:34.of not listening to her concerns about his condition.

:04:26. > :04:30.Paul Pugh spent two months in a coma after the attack

:04:31. > :04:36.Tonight he's been given an award by Dyfed-Powys Police for his work

:04:37. > :04:40.warning others of the dangers of alcohol fuelled violence.

:04:41. > :04:49.He's been speaking to our reporter David Grundy.

:04:50. > :04:54.The frantic 999 call made moments after the attack on Paul Pugh.

:04:55. > :04:57.The captain of Cwmaman United football club had been

:04:58. > :05:02.It's outside this pub exaclty ten years ago that

:05:03. > :05:05.Paul Pugh was the victim of a sustained and prolonged

:05:06. > :05:10.It's an attack left him in a coma for two months and in hospital

:05:11. > :05:14.Today for the first time in ten years Paul went back

:05:15. > :05:17.to the pub with his mum, Nesta.

:05:18. > :05:24.It feels, to be honest, it feels great.

:05:25. > :05:26.The attack has left Paul needing regular therapy.

:05:27. > :05:29.He still has difficulty using one side of his body

:05:30. > :05:34.Four men were jailed for carrying out the attack.

:05:35. > :05:37.Paul says he has forgiven them and he now visits

:05:38. > :05:40.schools and youth clubs to tell his story, urging

:05:41. > :05:42.others to think twice about excessive drinking.

:05:43. > :05:56.I mean, there are many things I can't do but this, I can do.

:05:57. > :05:59.More than half of adults in Wales have suffered some form of harm or

:06:00. > :06:03.negative experience as the result of someone else being under the

:06:04. > :06:07.Recent research also found almost one in five

:06:08. > :06:10.adults had felt physically threatened by somebody who had

:06:11. > :06:12.been drinking, one in ten had their property damaged

:06:13. > :06:16.by a drinker and one in 20 have suffered physical violence

:06:17. > :06:20.at the hands of someone under the influence of alcohol.

:06:21. > :06:23.Tonight, Paul was given a special commendation award from the Chief

:06:24. > :06:27.Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police for his campaign to prevent what

:06:28. > :06:30.happened to him from happening to others.

:06:31. > :06:32.You are pretty inspirational chap, Paul.

:06:55. > :07:01.A law which gives rights for people to access services in Welsh is too

:07:02. > :07:05.complicated and will be reviewed according to the Welsh Government.

:07:09. > :07:10.They place a duty on councils, National Parks and the Welsh

:07:11. > :07:15.Government to deliver some services bilingually.
