:00:00. > 3:59:59Gove and Labour's Brexit Secretary Kier Starmer as well. Join me now on

:00:00. > :00:07.BBC Two. Tonight, the professor

:00:08. > :00:17.who says it is possible for parents to spot groomers -

:00:18. > :00:20.if they know what to look for. And Rob Howley on the eve

:00:21. > :00:24.of naming his Six Nations squad. Is it time for him to

:00:25. > :00:40.pick the young guns? The online sex abuse of children

:00:41. > :00:44.is an ever-increasing crime, and targeting youngsters

:00:45. > :00:45.while they play games or use social media

:00:46. > :00:49.is reaching an alarming high. That's according to an expert

:00:50. > :00:52.at Swansea University who's studied the behaviour

:00:53. > :00:55.of online predators, and now plans to publish

:00:56. > :01:00.new advice for parents. The professor says it is

:01:01. > :01:05.possible for parents to spot groomers if they

:01:06. > :01:07.know what to look for. Caroline Evans has

:01:08. > :01:11.this special report. REPORTER: A judge has warned a man

:01:12. > :01:14.from Merthyr Tydfil who groomed children on the online computer

:01:15. > :01:17.game Minecraft that he is facing He was caught by police as

:01:18. > :01:24.he booked into a Bridgend hotel Two shocking examples where children

:01:25. > :01:29.in Wales have been groomed online. This paedophile was given

:01:30. > :01:31.a ten-year sentence, Lessons like this now take place

:01:32. > :01:39.in schools up and down Wales. But in this ever-changing

:01:40. > :01:43.world, we must all learn. So how do parents tell

:01:44. > :01:47.if their child's online The clues are there,

:01:48. > :01:52.says this professor in Swansea - The academics here studied the

:01:53. > :01:58.chat logs of 200 online groomers. What they found was,

:01:59. > :02:02.she says, unexpected. Groomers don't lie about their age,

:02:03. > :02:07.and the speed at which they In one case it took less

:02:08. > :02:15.than 20 minutes to persuade Paying compliments

:02:16. > :02:20.was one warning sign. Then there's isolation,

:02:21. > :02:22.seeking to drive a wedge They're seeking to create

:02:23. > :02:30.a sense of exclusivity, so their relationship,

:02:31. > :02:32.that they're seeking to develop with their victims

:02:33. > :02:34.is special, is unique. It's not, therefore,

:02:35. > :02:36.any other relationship with parents, You know, it's not as important,

:02:37. > :02:39.it's not as unique. And they try to create

:02:40. > :02:41.that isolation. The latest figures show 155 people

:02:42. > :02:45.have been reported to the police in Wales for meeting a child

:02:46. > :02:49.following sexual grooming over Hunting down the criminals has

:02:50. > :02:56.led police to develop This police footage

:02:57. > :03:01.is a demonstration of how officers no longer need to remove computers

:03:02. > :03:05.for forensic examination, Day in, day out, dedicated teams

:03:06. > :03:12.across Wales are doing search warrants on defenders' addresses,

:03:13. > :03:15.seizing computers, immediately analysing computers and other

:03:16. > :03:17.technology that they find there, looking for indecent

:03:18. > :03:20.images of children. Just last month, for instance,

:03:21. > :03:22.across this force, there was one dozen warrants

:03:23. > :03:29.executed against offenders. But ACC Drake believes this fight

:03:30. > :03:32.has to be a partnership TELEVISION: We chatted

:03:33. > :03:38.all the time... For this generation, adopting

:03:39. > :03:42.the latest technology is easy. Negotiating this online world

:03:43. > :03:52.safely is a hard lesson. Back in Swansea, this professor

:03:53. > :04:02.is keen to publish more findings. Spieth -- the professor is soon to

:04:03. > :04:07.publish more findings. But is also actively seeking funding

:04:08. > :04:10.to turn the research into public In the meantime, her advice -

:04:11. > :04:13.to keep a careful eye on the conversations your

:04:14. > :04:15.child is having online. Labour Assembly Members have tonight

:04:16. > :04:18.decided to back the next stage of devolution -

:04:19. > :04:20.on the eve of a crucial vote The Wales Bill will transfer powers

:04:21. > :04:25.over areas such as energy, transport, and some degree

:04:26. > :04:27.of income tax. But it's been criticised

:04:28. > :04:29.for being unclear. Ukip will vote against, with

:04:30. > :04:32.Plaid Cymru still yet to decide. But the motion is set to pass

:04:33. > :04:37.tomorrow with Conservative support. It wasn't a straight

:04:38. > :04:48.foward decision. But when we balanced up

:04:49. > :04:51.the arguments, we felt that at this constitutional time

:04:52. > :04:54.when we are in flux in terms of Brexit, we need to ensure

:04:55. > :04:57.that we the same position as Scotland and Northern Ireland

:04:58. > :04:59.in terms of negotiating our Restrictions on strikes by public

:05:00. > :05:10.service workers like teachers and nurses could be scrapped

:05:11. > :05:15.under plans published by In the public sector, two thirds

:05:16. > :05:19.of Welsh workers are union members. Ministers here insist the assembly

:05:20. > :05:22.has the power to change the law - despite the UK Government saying

:05:23. > :05:33.it's a matter for Westminster. Four men have been charged

:05:34. > :05:35.with murder following the death of a 41-year-old man found

:05:36. > :05:39.unconscious in Newport on Thursday. Yan Yendrayevski was taken

:05:40. > :05:42.to hospital after being discovered on Keene Street, but later died

:05:43. > :05:51.from his injuries. Around 500 children and young people

:05:52. > :05:55.from across the UK are diagnosed with brain tumours every year -

:05:56. > :05:59.but delays in that diagnosis can have dire and sometimes

:06:00. > :06:04.fatal consequences. Now a family from the Vale

:06:05. > :06:08.of Glamorgan is spearheading a campaign to raise awareness

:06:09. > :06:11.among parents and doctors Eight-year-old Leila May Cummings,

:06:12. > :06:21.from Barry, was diagnosed But that was after a whole

:06:22. > :06:25.year of health problems, She's since had surgery

:06:26. > :06:30.to remove the tumour, but the delay may have

:06:31. > :06:32.had lasting consequences. She's left with quite

:06:33. > :06:35.a memory deficit, so it You know, she's a very different

:06:36. > :06:41.person to how she was. I mean, the brain

:06:42. > :06:43.is a complex thing. You know, the longer something

:06:44. > :06:47.is there that shouldn't be, Brain tumours are the biggest

:06:48. > :06:52.cancer killer of children Every year, 500 youngsters

:06:53. > :06:56.are diagnosed, and a quarter die. The charity Head Smart have

:06:57. > :06:59.printed 2 million symptom cards and are trying to raise awareness

:07:00. > :07:02.in parents and doctors. Those symptoms could be

:07:03. > :07:05.anything from headaches and persistent vomiting,

:07:06. > :07:07.a wry neck in a child, or imbalance, a child not able to ride

:07:08. > :07:12.a bike or dance well. But, combined with other symptoms,

:07:13. > :07:15.they suggest that a parent ought to be talking to their GP

:07:16. > :07:23.and pushing for a scan. For a year, Leila May's

:07:24. > :07:25.condition worsened. She became weaker, aggressive,

:07:26. > :07:28.and suffered seizures. An MRI scan in Cardiff finally

:07:29. > :07:31.revealed the tumour. You're obviously very keen

:07:32. > :07:34.to highlight the symptoms of brain tumours so other families don't go

:07:35. > :07:38.through what you've been through? And, you know, avoiding those

:07:39. > :07:43.long-term disabilities. Re-occurring vomiting,

:07:44. > :07:48.headaches, seizures, In a statement from the Welsh

:07:49. > :08:03.government, they said it can be ... They added the Refresh Cancer

:08:04. > :08:20.Delivery Plan for Wales includes... Head Smart say their campaign has

:08:21. > :08:25.already halved the diagnosis time. That's something Leila May

:08:26. > :08:30.and her family know is vital. Wales' rugby Coach Rob Howley

:08:31. > :08:33.is finalising his Six Nations squad. Tomorrow he'll name around 35

:08:34. > :08:37.players before the squad is whittled down before the start

:08:38. > :08:42.of the campaign in Italy We should also get clarification

:08:43. > :08:47.on who will take-over On the eve of naming his Six Nations

:08:48. > :08:57.squad, plenty to ponder on. And after a frustrating autumn

:08:58. > :08:59.series, calls for the North Wales coach to be bold and not just pick

:09:00. > :09:02.players with test experience. Many Welsh fans feel

:09:03. > :09:05.Keelan Giles should have A certain try machine,

:09:06. > :09:10.the ospreys winger suffered He is being assessed by medics

:09:11. > :09:15.today, and Howley will be hoping Also tipped to be in the squad

:09:16. > :09:20.is Tom Young, son of Wasps' director of rugby and former Wales captain,

:09:21. > :09:22.Dai Young. The 24-year-old flanker has

:09:23. > :09:26.continued to impress for his English club and,

:09:27. > :09:29.having been courted by England last year, is tied to Wales,

:09:30. > :09:33.having played at under 20s. I'd like to see Rob

:09:34. > :09:35.being a bit bolder in his Given the calibre of the young guys,

:09:36. > :09:39.who have excelled throughout the season thus far,

:09:40. > :09:42.give them a chance to Whether you put them on the bench

:09:43. > :09:51.and then bring them on gradually as the game's starting to evolve

:09:52. > :09:53.a little bit... You know, it would be nice if Rob

:09:54. > :09:56.just went a little bit away from the status quo and pick players

:09:57. > :09:59.who are excelling and performing The players will go into training

:10:00. > :10:03.with the Wales camp following mixed The Ospreys trounced Lyon,

:10:04. > :10:06.scoring seven tries and guaranteeing After his side's victory,

:10:07. > :10:11.Alun Wyn Jones refused to be drawn on whether he is to take over

:10:12. > :10:14.the Wales captaincy. He is expected to get the nod,

:10:15. > :10:16.replacing Sam Warburton. The Blues could face

:10:17. > :10:20.the Ospreys in the last eight. Both them and the Dragons

:10:21. > :10:22.need to win their final The Blues host Bristol,

:10:23. > :10:26.and the Dragons need a win in Brive. And it's all over for the Scarlets,

:10:27. > :10:29.out of the Champions Cup. Heartbreak for them

:10:30. > :10:31.after a last-gasp converted try gave holders Saracens a 22-22 draw to end

:10:32. > :10:34.the Scarlets' hope of progression. Rob Howley will already have a good

:10:35. > :10:42.idea of the 15 he wants to run out against Italy,

:10:43. > :11:05.and we'll have a clearer idea Alex Thomson has smashed the

:11:06. > :11:10.greatest distance record for the -- has smashed the record for the

:11:11. > :11:14.greatest distance sailed solo in 24 hours. It feels like a long time

:11:15. > :11:19.coming. I'll should a broken in two months ago, but less than one mile.

:11:20. > :11:24.You need to break it by more than one mile by the sailor from Bango

:11:25. > :11:29.has been allowed on the ocean for 71 days competing in the round the

:11:30. > :11:30.world competition. He is now 74 nautical miles behind the leader

:11:31. > :11:33.with less than 840 miles to go. Let's see what the weather has

:11:34. > :11:36.in store - Derek's got the forecast. There's no sign of any more snow -

:11:37. > :11:40.at least in the near future. Yesterday Cardiff was

:11:41. > :11:43.the warmest place in the UK, The outlook for the next few days

:11:44. > :11:46.is mostly dry and settled. Lots of cloud about with

:11:47. > :11:49.high pressure in charge. A little light rain

:11:50. > :12:03.and drizzle in the south-east Temperatures staying

:12:04. > :12:07.above freezing at 4-8 Celsius. A grey, misty start for most of us

:12:08. > :12:10.tomorrow as well, with fog patches. A few spots of rain perhaps

:12:11. > :12:13.in the north and north-west. Across the rest of the UK, a weather

:12:14. > :12:17.front will bring a little rain, The best of the sunshine in London

:12:18. > :12:24.and south-east England, where it will be chilly -

:12:25. > :12:26.around 4-5 Celsius. Much milder in the north

:12:27. > :12:28.with 11 in Glasgow. Close to home, cloud

:12:29. > :12:30.will cover most of Wales. A little rain or drizzle for parts

:12:31. > :12:37.of mid and North Wales. The temperature up to

:12:38. > :12:42.ten Celsius is Rhyl. Slightly lower the

:12:43. > :12:45.further south you go. But dry for many of us

:12:46. > :12:54.and slightly colder in part of the south and south-east,

:12:55. > :12:56.down to 2-3 Celsius. On Wednesday, a misty

:12:57. > :12:57.morning in places. Otherwise, dry for many with the odd

:12:58. > :13:01.spot of rain perhaps on Anglesey. And it should brighten up

:13:02. > :13:03.in places with sunshine, hopefully, for parts

:13:04. > :13:10.of the south and south-east. The outlook for the rest of the

:13:11. > :13:13.week - not a great deal of change. High pressure keeping things

:13:14. > :13:15.mostly dry and settled. Plenty of cloud, but I wouldn't rule

:13:16. > :13:18.out some sunshine with the risk of some fog and frost later

:13:19. > :13:21.in the week. That's Wales Today,

:13:22. > :13:27.thank you for watching. From all of us on the

:13:28. > :13:32.programnme, goodnight.
