0:00:04 > 0:00:06Welcome to the programme. Tonight's headlines:

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Constant complaints and old, cramped carriages -

0:00:09 > 0:00:12now MPs say trains on Arriva services need to be

0:00:12 > 0:00:14replaced urgently.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18And Adam Issac is jailed for sexually abusing boys he met

0:00:18 > 0:00:20through an online computer game.

0:00:36 > 0:00:37Good evening.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Some of our trains have up to 4.5 million miles on the clock

0:00:41 > 0:00:44and there's now an urgent need to replace old and

0:00:44 > 0:00:46cramped carriages.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49That's according to a group of MPs who also say there's been a huge

0:00:49 > 0:00:53failure to account for a significant rise in passenger numbers.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56We're taking more than twice as many journeys on trains

0:00:56 > 0:00:58as we did ten years ago, which MPs say has led

0:00:58 > 0:01:01to overcrowding and dissatisfied customers.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05Here's our Business Correspondent Brian Meechan.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08It's a service many have always relied on.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12But while travellers have changed, it seems the trains haven't.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Those operating today by Arriva Trains Wales are,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18on average, 27 years old.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22MPs argue that the increasing number of passengers who want to use

0:01:22 > 0:01:25the service have had enough of the conditions.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28There have been complaints about the standard of the carriages

0:01:28 > 0:01:32and the overcrowding that many believe happens too regularly.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35During peak times it's no good at all.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36It's really, really bad.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38I've seen people fainting and being sick.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41On the whole, because I travel on the valleys lines,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44it's really good, but come Saturdays they've only got three carriages on.

0:01:44 > 0:01:45There should be more.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48The Welsh Affairs Select Committee says the problem was that

0:01:48 > 0:01:51when the contract was agreed between the UK's Strategic Rail

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Authority and Arriva, it didn't factor in more

0:01:54 > 0:01:56people using trains.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Not enough account was taken of the possibility of a huge

0:01:59 > 0:02:01growth in numbers whichy we subsequently saw.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04It ended up costing a lot more money than it should have

0:02:04 > 0:02:06done to deal with this.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Having said that, we recognise that Arriva Trains Wales

0:02:08 > 0:02:11and the Welsh Assembly Government worked quite well to

0:02:11 > 0:02:12overcome those problems.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Passenger jurneys have increased by around 50%,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19with over 29 million in 2014-2015, around 10 million more

0:02:19 > 0:02:21than a decade before.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Arriva Trains Wales' profits have remained fairly consistent.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28It's made over ?88 million in the last five years.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32The vast bulk of that being paid as a dividend to its owners,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35the German transport company Deutsche Bahn.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Again, over a five-year period, the company has received

0:02:38 > 0:02:41roughly ?750 million from the Welsh Government

0:02:41 > 0:02:43in subsidies.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47Arriva Trains Wales says it welcomes the fact that the report recognises

0:02:47 > 0:02:51there have been improvements and investments in its services.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55However, it does say it will continue to try to solve

0:02:55 > 0:02:59the problems, but as the MPs made clear, there's no quick

0:02:59 > 0:03:02or easy solution.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Arriva's trains are generally running on time.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08While overcrowding on services arriving in Cardiff is worse

0:03:08 > 0:03:12than on trains arriving in Bristol and Liverpool, it's

0:03:12 > 0:03:15better than those pulling into Manchester and Leeds.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18But the Welsh Government says the current franchises

0:03:18 > 0:03:20isn't fit for purpose.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Major investment will be needed soon.

0:03:22 > 0:03:2670% of the Arriva fleet will not be able to be used

0:03:26 > 0:03:29after 2020 because of new disability regulations.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Those will have to be replaced.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35The impact is the degree of breakdown.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38If we had 40-year-old cars, we would have a problem

0:03:38 > 0:03:40keeping those going.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44Arriva is one of four bidders for the next franchise,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46which comes up in 2018.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50The Welsh Government will award that on a not-for-profit basis,

0:03:50 > 0:03:54signalling a major change in direction in the future of rail.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57South Wales Police have said tonight that a 26-year-old man

0:03:57 > 0:04:00from the Swansea area was arrested yesterday on suspicion

0:04:00 > 0:04:02of terrorism offences.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05It was part of a joint operation between Counter Terrorism units

0:04:05 > 0:04:07in Wales and the West Midlands.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Officers say the investigation does not concern any immediate

0:04:09 > 0:04:12threat to public safety.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16An amateur boxer from Port Talbot has been jailed for 12 and a half

0:04:16 > 0:04:19years after admitting killing his girlfriend.

0:04:19 > 0:04:2321-year-old James Tobin was caught after police bugged his home

0:04:23 > 0:04:27and heard him admit to his father that he'd killed Kellie Gillard.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Swansea Crown Court heard Tobin hit Miss Gillard with forceful blows

0:04:30 > 0:04:33during an argument two years ago, causing her to hit the wall

0:04:33 > 0:04:36and fall, rupturing an artery.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40A man from Merthyr Tydfil has been sentenced to two years and eight

0:04:40 > 0:04:44months in prison for sexually abusing teenage boys he met

0:04:44 > 0:04:47via the online game Minecraft.

0:04:47 > 0:04:5023-year-old Adam Isaac from Maesgwynne pleaded guilty

0:04:50 > 0:04:53to eight sexual offences between August 2015

0:04:53 > 0:04:55and January 2016.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57Rhiannon Wilkins reports.

0:04:57 > 0:05:02Adam Isaac, seen here leaving court after a previous hearing,

0:05:02 > 0:05:05is tonight behind bars.

0:05:05 > 0:05:10He sexually abused two boys aged 12 and 14 online.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13He asked them to send intimate photos of themselves to him,

0:05:13 > 0:05:18and he perform sexual acts on himself during video calls.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23Indecent images of a third boy were also found in his possession.

0:05:23 > 0:05:28The father of one of the victims says it's had a profound impact.

0:05:28 > 0:05:34He was quite calculatedly groomed on chat messages.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37He had no idea what was happening.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40I think the realisation, to him, of what's happened,

0:05:40 > 0:05:43was very hard for him to cope with.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46It was through the online world of Minecraft that

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Isaac targeted them.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52The game has more than 100 million registered users, players

0:05:52 > 0:05:55interact with each other, and build 3-D worlds

0:05:55 > 0:05:57using virtual building blocks.

0:05:57 > 0:06:01After grooming the boys using it, the prosecution said Isaac then sent

0:06:01 > 0:06:03them money on PayPal.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07But it wasn't until one victim's father found online Skype

0:06:07 > 0:06:12conversations asking about his son's sex life that the matter was brought

0:06:12 > 0:06:14forward to the police.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17A spokeswoman for Microsoft, who own Minecraft, said a safe

0:06:17 > 0:06:20online experience is a priority.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24And they offer resources to help parents keep their children safe.

0:06:24 > 0:06:29But online gaming is a concern for children's charity, NSPCC.

0:06:29 > 0:06:34Online grooming is a term that is vastly growing now

0:06:34 > 0:06:37and picking up pace.

0:06:37 > 0:06:41That, for me, really reinforces the concern that is out there.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44It's the biggest, near enough, the biggest child protection issue

0:06:44 > 0:06:47of the 21st century.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51Sentencing 23-year-old Adam Isaac to two years

0:06:51 > 0:06:55and eight months in prison, the judge, Mr Justice Twomlow,

0:06:55 > 0:06:58told him, "You knew you would find teenage boys.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01"This was clearly a grooming process."

0:07:01 > 0:07:05He went on to say, "People have to understand the seriousness

0:07:05 > 0:07:13"of behaviour like yours and it will result in prison."

0:07:13 > 0:07:16A union says 90 jobs are going at a Greggs

0:07:16 > 0:07:18factory in Treforest.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21The company says it intends increasing its production of bread

0:07:21 > 0:07:24there but production of doughnuts and other bakery products will be

0:07:24 > 0:07:28transferred to its other regional bakeries over the next two years.

0:07:28 > 0:07:33The union says the firm is looking for voluntary redundancies.

0:07:33 > 0:07:38Around 200 beech trees which were up to 200 years old have been illegally

0:07:38 > 0:07:40cut down in Blackwood.

0:07:40 > 0:07:44National Resources Wales says it's a devastating case

0:07:44 > 0:07:47which will have a terrible impact on the environment.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50It says no licence was granted and it will take the necessary

0:07:50 > 0:07:52action against those responsible.
