:00:15. > :00:36.so why are there so few places to recharge them?

:00:37. > :00:40.They've voted for less money in future to save their jobs.

:00:41. > :00:41.Tata steelworkers, including 6,000 in Wales,

:00:42. > :00:44.have overwhelmingly backed a deal that will end the company's final

:00:45. > :00:49.The company's offer included a ?1 billion investment

:00:50. > :00:52.commitment at Port Talbot and no compulsory job losses.

:00:53. > :00:59.Here's our Business Correspondent Brian Meechan.

:01:00. > :01:02.28-year-old Scott's been working at Port Talbot for ten years.

:01:03. > :01:04.He followed his dad into the Tata plant.

:01:05. > :01:08.Scott and his workmates have had a tough decision to make.

:01:09. > :01:11.Obviously pension is not at the front of our minds

:01:12. > :01:15.as the older workforce but obviously it gives us hope for the future,

:01:16. > :01:18.that's what we need, we need to save the steel industry

:01:19. > :01:21.for our future and the future of the next generation coming through.

:01:22. > :01:23.Workers are being offered a pension that will give them

:01:24. > :01:26.a lot less in retirement than their current one.

:01:27. > :01:28.The company will pay 10% into the pension pot

:01:29. > :01:33.Tata says it's essential to secure the long-term future of Port Talbot

:01:34. > :01:41.The pension deal is also tied to a 10-year ?1 billion investment

:01:42. > :01:45.plan to support steel-making at the site.

:01:46. > :01:49.A minimum five-year commitment to keeping two blast furnaces

:01:50. > :01:52.And a commitment to seek to avoid compulsory

:01:53. > :01:59.I think although the employees at Port Talbot and elsewhere have

:02:00. > :02:03.They didn't really have any choice in the matter.

:02:04. > :02:05.The traditional company pensions scheme is dead

:02:06. > :02:12.Companies are closing the pension schemes left, right and centre.

:02:13. > :02:15.We had Tesco, which was a very big one, about a year ago,

:02:16. > :02:20.When the pensions deal was announced in December,

:02:21. > :02:23.the workforce seemed split and there was a significant chance

:02:24. > :02:26.But in the end members of the Community Union voted 72%

:02:27. > :02:34.Unite reported 75% vote in favour on a 69% turnout.

:02:35. > :02:41.While GMB says it members voted yes by 74% in a 51% turnout.

:02:42. > :02:44.Local union leaders who also worked at Talbot initially said they'd let

:02:45. > :02:50.But last month they urged them to back the deal,

:02:51. > :02:53.arguing the alternative was almost unthinkable.

:02:54. > :02:57.I don't think anybody had any great pleasure in putting the X in the yes

:02:58. > :03:02.box and I think people have thought about future and, you know,

:03:03. > :03:07.it is the ultimate sacrifice, you know, absolutely immense to do

:03:08. > :03:13.Do you think that Tata can rebuilt trust and how does

:03:14. > :03:19.Everybody I think now has got to a stage where we are tired,

:03:20. > :03:23.frustrated, and we need to rebuild confidence in ourselves,

:03:24. > :03:27.in the company and put us back where we need to be.

:03:28. > :03:32.The future of Port Talbot and the rest of Tata's steel

:03:33. > :03:37.operations may be a little clearer tonight, but there are many more

:03:38. > :03:42.decisions to be made about what that future looks like.

:03:43. > :03:44.A 23-year-old man from South Wales will appear before

:03:45. > :03:47.Westminster Magistrates tomorrow charged with possessing information

:03:48. > :03:51.likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing

:03:52. > :03:57.Nathan Saunders, from Tredegar, was arrested earlier this month.

:03:58. > :04:00.Police investigating an armed robbery at a shop in Usk have

:04:35. > :04:39.That's the call from campaigners who say a lack of infrastructure

:04:40. > :04:43.in rural Wales is holding back the growth of low carbon vehicles.

:04:50. > :04:53.Making the switch from a diesel van to an electric model

:04:54. > :04:56.was all about cutting fuel costs and helping the environment

:04:57. > :05:01.Based in Newtown in Powys, he delivers plumbing

:05:02. > :05:14.He's installed his own charger, which tops up the van

:05:15. > :05:21.But far from helping his business, he's found that a lack of points

:05:22. > :05:23.to plug into whilst he's out and about means this new vehicle

:05:24. > :05:27.On a fully charged battery, you're basically, you get about 70 miles.

:05:28. > :05:30.I mean, people talk about this thing, range anxiety,

:05:31. > :05:37.Currently to operate an electric vehicle in mid Wales is quite

:05:38. > :05:45.Currently, so-called rapid charging points that can top up an electric

:05:46. > :05:49.car in around 20 to 30 minutes are only available in four

:05:50. > :05:53.locations along the A55, and eight stops along the M4.

:05:54. > :05:57.Without some serious forward planning, the rest of Wales is,

:05:58. > :06:03.Use of electric cars is growing in Wales.

:06:04. > :06:08.Latest figures show there are 1,725 licensed vehicles here,

:06:09. > :06:14.The Welsh government says it wants to see that continued.

:06:15. > :06:17.More of us choosing electric vehicles will help tackle carbon

:06:18. > :06:22.But campaigners say a lack of charging infrastructure means

:06:23. > :06:25.the switch isn't happening as quickly as it could.

:06:26. > :06:28.People want to travel and use electric vehicles, but they can't

:06:29. > :06:31.because infrastructure isn't there, and infrastructure isn't going to be

:06:32. > :06:35.What I would like to see is government recognising that it

:06:36. > :06:37.does need some grant and funding support.

:06:38. > :06:41.Back in 2015, a report by transport experts commissioned by the Welsh

:06:42. > :06:43.government made a string of recommendations to

:06:44. > :06:49.They included installing charge points on all government property

:06:50. > :06:51.and encouraging local authorities to do the same.

:06:52. > :06:54.All the places that people want to go need to have

:06:55. > :07:02.And so until we get to that level, I think we are still going

:07:03. > :07:06.to struggle a bit to really make a difference in terms of our carbon

:07:07. > :07:09.The Welsh government told us it was considering the recommendations

:07:10. > :07:12.that it received and was committed to helping the low carbon vehicle

:07:13. > :07:17.Back in Newtown, Richard is hoping it won't be too long before he has

:07:18. > :07:24.other faster points to plug into, apart from his own.

:07:25. > :07:28.Able and talented pupils are not getting enough attention

:07:29. > :07:31.in Welsh schools according to the education watchdog Estyn.

:07:32. > :07:34.It says schools focus on helping pupils on the borderline

:07:35. > :07:39.The Welsh government agrees it needs to help able pupils

:07:40. > :07:48.Snooker now and Lee Walker, Dominic Dale and Michael White

:07:49. > :07:51.are all through to the last 32 of the Welsh open in Cardiff.
