:00:59. > :01:02.of Bridgend, Theresa May claimed every single vote would strengthen

:01:14. > :01:19.The Conservatives are trying to keep a lid on their excitement,

:01:20. > :01:22.but the noise and smiles for Theresa May in Bridgend

:01:23. > :01:30.I'm really pleased to be able to be here in Wales,

:01:31. > :01:33.and to say to Wales, how important Wales

:01:34. > :01:39.is to me, because Wales is important to our country.

:01:40. > :01:46.Wales could also become important for the Conservative Party if it

:01:47. > :01:48.sees a big improvement in its fortunes, as was suggested

:01:49. > :01:52.Theresa May's visits to Labour consistencies in Newport

:01:53. > :01:56.and Bridgend is a statement of intent that the party is looking

:01:57. > :02:05.In a speech to activists she insisted time and again that

:02:06. > :02:13.every single vote counted, as she looked on in her hand

:02:14. > :02:20.every single vote counted, as she looked to strengthen her hand

:02:21. > :02:22.in Brexit negotiations, which she claimed was under threat.

:02:23. > :02:25.What we see from other parties is that they want

:02:26. > :02:28.They've shown that they are willing to do anything to disrupt

:02:29. > :02:30.the Brexit negotiations and stop us from leading

:02:31. > :02:37.Remember the polls were wrong in 2015.

:02:38. > :02:39.They were wrong in the referendum last year.

:02:40. > :02:42.Jeremy Corbyn has said he was a 200 to one outsider

:02:43. > :02:52.for the leadership in 2015, look where that one went.

:02:53. > :02:54.This was a message to the Conservative party faithful.

:02:55. > :02:57.But there was a wider message as well for Labour voters to look

:02:58. > :02:59.again at their tribal loyalty to their party.

:03:00. > :03:02.But, you know, the Tories may think things are going reasonably well,

:03:03. > :03:05.but this is a huge job, in which many Tory party

:03:06. > :03:18.There hasn't been a Tory MP and Bridgend since the days

:03:19. > :03:20.There hasn't been a Tory MP in Bridgend since the days

:03:21. > :03:23.We still don't know who their candidate will be.

:03:24. > :03:35.Theresa May was just around the corner giving a speech,

:03:36. > :03:37.do you think the Conservatives can win Bridgend?

:03:38. > :03:40.People really don't want to be in Europe anymore.

:03:41. > :03:45.I think that will be the thing everything hinges on in the end.

:03:46. > :03:51.Can the Conservatives win in Bridgend?

:03:52. > :03:55.To me there is no Labour Party anymore.

:03:56. > :04:05.I think I've noticed a lot of people are turning Tory.

:04:06. > :04:10.She's a woman, she's a little bit like Margaret Thatcher.

:04:11. > :04:12.Bridgend is the Assembly seat of the Welsh Labour

:04:13. > :04:15.leader Carwyn Jones, who was asked about the Tories

:04:16. > :04:38.I am not going to turn up in Maidenhead any time soon!

:04:39. > :04:41.What's important is that people see the Tories for what they are.

:04:42. > :04:43.Their idea is to say nothing and do something.

:04:44. > :04:46.We want Labour MPs who will stand up from Wales and not

:04:47. > :04:50.Stunt or not, the Prime Minister went to a steel company in Newport.

:04:51. > :04:53.These are the early skirmishes of what would be a short

:04:54. > :04:57.But the heavy lifting for all the parties is still to come.

:05:27. > :05:33.And geography is important to Plaid Cymru at UK general

:05:34. > :05:35.elections they've never really managed to break out

:05:36. > :05:45.While the official opposition in Westminster is divided

:05:46. > :05:49.and riven with infighting, Plaid Cymru's message in this

:05:50. > :05:53.Brexit, and specifically what type of Brexit, is the backdrop

:05:54. > :06:03.Plaid Cymru's slogan is Defending Wales.

:06:04. > :06:05.Leanne Wood, the party's leader, insists the country

:06:06. > :06:11.It's vitally important now that Wales has strong voices

:06:12. > :06:13.in Westminster to defend our people and very nation from

:06:14. > :06:17.Why can't Labour do that, they would be better placed

:06:18. > :06:20.than you, at most you only have a handful of MPs, don't you?

:06:21. > :06:24.Well, since June we've heard more talk of Gibraltar

:06:25. > :06:26.than we've heard about Wales, Labour MPs have failed

:06:27. > :06:29.to stand up for Wales, failed to put forward the Welsh

:06:30. > :06:33.national interest in this crucial time in our history.

:06:34. > :06:36.It's down to Plaid Cymru to be that voice for Wales.

:06:37. > :06:40.They are not able to form the opposition that is needed now.

:06:41. > :06:43.Plaid Cymru always find UK elections more difficult to fight

:06:44. > :06:48.Their leader, candidates and party members will spend the next

:06:49. > :06:53.six weeks telling us that they are relevant,

:06:54. > :07:00.they can make a difference, and they will stand up for Wales.

:07:01. > :07:03.To do that they are evoking the threat of Conservatives past

:07:04. > :07:07.as a way of attacking what they see as a weakening Labour vote now.

:07:08. > :07:10.This is what a Leanne Wood told the BBC's Daily Politics.

:07:11. > :07:12.People in Wales would do well to remember the Tory's record.

:07:13. > :07:15.I grew up in the valleys, in the 1980s, when Margaret Thatcher

:07:16. > :07:18.was Prime Minister and she decimated the coal industry.

:07:19. > :07:21.It's a direct pitch for disenchanted Labour voters, they've done that

:07:22. > :07:32.But this election is being fought in unique circumstances.

:07:33. > :07:37.Workers at the Ford factory in Bridgend will be balloted

:07:38. > :07:38.for industrial action, amid uncertainty over

:07:39. > :07:41.the plant's future that's according to the Unite Union.

:07:42. > :07:43.It was revealed earlier this year that the plant could be downsized

:07:44. > :07:49.Ford has called the ballot premature and said it remained committed

:07:50. > :07:53.to on-going constructive dialogue with unions.

:07:54. > :07:56.A former Powys primary school teacher has admitted a string

:07:57. > :08:00.of historical sex offences against young girls.

:08:01. > :08:05.Swansea Crown Court heard that Gordon Fleming from Oswestry,

:08:06. > :08:07.seen here at a previous court appearance, abused two dozen

:08:08. > :08:12.He pleaded guilty to 24 counts of indecently sexually assaulting

:08:13. > :08:21.A Rhyl drug dealer was murdered by a rival gang in revenge

:08:22. > :08:23.for an earlier attack a court has heard.

:08:24. > :08:25.Mark Mason was stabbed more than 20 times in a supermarket

:08:26. > :08:36.Three men from Liverpool deny his murder.

:08:37. > :08:44.It was early evening on October 27th when a black BMW followed

:08:45. > :08:47.Four men began attacking the van's occupants.

:08:48. > :08:49.48-year-old father of two Mark Mason was fatally stabbed

:08:50. > :08:52.over 20 times as he sat in the passenger seat.

:08:53. > :08:54.Two other men were stabbed in the leg whilst fleeing vehicle.

:08:55. > :08:57.The jury was told that a man named Jake Melia had already pleaded

:08:58. > :09:00.guilty to the murder and two counts of wounding.

:09:01. > :09:02.But that the three men in the dock were also responsible.

:09:03. > :09:05.31-year-old Anthony Baines, Mark Ennis, whose 30 and 20-year-old

:09:06. > :09:11.James Davies are alleged to be members of a Liverpool gang

:09:12. > :09:13.called the Pensarn Crew, supplying heroin and crack

:09:14. > :09:17.It's claimed they murdered Mark Mason in retaliation

:09:18. > :09:26.for confronting two of the gang earlier that day wearing a balaclava

:09:27. > :09:28.and wielding a machete near Marine Lake in Rhyl.

:09:29. > :09:30.It alleged Jake Melia and James Davies armed themselves

:09:31. > :09:32.with kitchen knives, and contacted Anthony Baines

:09:33. > :09:35.and Mark Ennis who travelled from Liverpool to Rhyl to look

:09:36. > :09:38.The prosecution say it matters not which defendants

:09:39. > :09:39.attacked which victims, each bears equal responsibility

:09:40. > :09:42.for the murder of Mark Mason and the unlawful wounding

:09:43. > :09:45.The men deny the charges on the case continues.

:12:08. > :12:09.and snow. Fewer showers in the West. The North West of Scotland clouds

:12:59. > :13:02.Friday with a milder day and a few showers around, otherwise a lot of

:13:03. > :13:07.dry weather and sunshine in places and temperatures back into double

:13:08. > :13:11.figures. Temperatures begin to rise later this week and on the bank

:13:12. > :13:15.holiday weekend, Saturday, it is likely to be dry and warm as well.
