0:00:13 > 0:00:14Good evening.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17New figures show HIV diagnosis has reached a 15-year high in Wales.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Health experts are warning that more needs to be done to halt

0:00:20 > 0:00:22the spread of the disease.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26189 people tested positive here in 2014,

0:00:26 > 0:00:27according to the latest figures.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Kate Scott-Williams reports.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31It was a hard-hitting message 30 years ago.

0:00:31 > 0:00:37There is now a danger that has been a threat to us all.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41It is a deadly disease and there is no known cure.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44AIDS is no longer the threat it was, thanks to new drugs,

0:00:44 > 0:00:47HIV patients are much less likely to develop AIDS.

0:00:47 > 0:00:54But campaigners say reducing HIV infection rate is still a priority.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58Testing for HIV in Wales increased by 48% in men and 34% in

0:00:58 > 0:01:02women between 2012 and 2014.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05The rate of new HIV diagnoses increased

0:01:05 > 0:01:10by 65% in men and 37% in women.

0:01:10 > 0:01:16The highest rate was among the young men.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19There's also been an increase in sexually transmitted diseases.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22The rise that we have seen over the last few years in Wales is not

0:01:22 > 0:01:24in men who have sex with men, but is

0:01:24 > 0:01:25also in the heterosexual population.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28It's kind of suggests that maybe something

0:01:28 > 0:01:30is happening in the, I would say, over 35

0:01:30 > 0:01:34heterosexual group.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37There are calls for the drug known as PrEP, which can prevent HHV

0:01:37 > 0:01:41to be introduced in Wales to tackle the problem.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43It has been the centre of a High Court battle with

0:01:43 > 0:01:46campaigners winning the fight for the drug to be available

0:01:46 > 0:01:47on the NHS in England.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50The Welsh Government has said it will review all the

0:01:50 > 0:01:54evidence available.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Scuba divers have used a giant balloon to raise a wagon

0:01:56 > 0:02:00that was formerly used to transport Welsh slate more than a century ago.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Members of Rhosneigr sub-aqua club, on Anglesey, were diving

0:02:02 > 0:02:05at Llyn Padarn, in Snowdonia, when the wagon was found.

0:02:05 > 0:02:12It'll now go on display at the Llanberis Lake Railway's Museum.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14The first day of competition is underway in the Olympics,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16with plenty of Welsh interest.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Cyclist Geraint Thomas has been battling the gruelling heat

0:02:19 > 0:02:22in the road race since lunchtime - with another two hours still to go.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26Rhodri Llywelyn reports from Rio.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Beside Rio's golden beaches comes the first opportunity of Welsh

0:02:29 > 0:02:32success at these Olympic Games.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Geraint Thomas is already a two-time Olympic champion.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38Both those gold medals came in track cycling.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Today, he goes in the road race, which has just begun.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44They were right for around six hours, before the finish

0:02:44 > 0:02:45here at Copacabana.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Alongside the Welshman in a team of five

0:02:47 > 0:02:52British cyclists is three times Tour de France winner Chris Froome.

0:02:52 > 0:03:00Who will be going for gold was a well-kept secret.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Geraint Thomas is going to be awesome on the climbs.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03I've been watching him.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04The team work well together.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07You saw how they worked in the Tour de France recently, so

0:03:07 > 0:03:10they're all set up for this and I think it will be awesome.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14My granny lives just outside Abergavenny near Brecon.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16And you've come to the Olympic games, presumably, to

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Exactly.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22The course has brutal climbs in scorching temperatures.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Survive those and there could soon be another Olympic medal,

0:03:25 > 0:03:30Cardiff-bound.
