0:00:11 > 0:00:12Good evening.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14It's been a bumper summer for the tourism industry here,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17that's according to the former chair of the Wales Tourism Alliance.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Tenby hotelier Chris Osborne, who's also a director

0:00:19 > 0:00:22of Pembrokeshire Tourism, says the number of overseas

0:00:22 > 0:00:25visitors has increased because of the weak pound.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29From Tenby, here's Teleri Glyn Jones.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32It may not have been the hottest start to the Bank Holiday but that

0:00:32 > 0:00:34didn't put off these Bank Holiday bathers in Tenby.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37But they're not just swimming, their spending and business

0:00:37 > 0:00:40in the town is brisk.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43According to this hotelier, whose a director of Pembrokeshire Tourism,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46it's been a bumper summer, even before the end of the season,

0:00:46 > 0:00:51they're are at least 10% up on income compared to last year.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52It's almost like going back to 2008, pre-recession.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55I think there's a combination of things involved here.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58I think it's Brexit and the exchange rate, so people from other countries

0:00:58 > 0:01:00are getting an awful lot more for their euros

0:01:00 > 0:01:03or whatever currency they have, and people in this country

0:01:03 > 0:01:06finding holidays abroad a lot more expensive.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08But also I think it's just the nature of the instability

0:01:08 > 0:01:12of the world and the fear factor.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Anglesey-based Menai Holiday Cottage business has 360 properties

0:01:14 > 0:01:17across North Wales.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20They too say the summer of 2016 has been busier than ever.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23They're so full, they're turning people away, but that success has

0:01:23 > 0:01:27been a long time in the making.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30A lot of people are saying it's Brexit and it's the pound,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but I think it's because all the businesses throughout Wales have

0:01:32 > 0:01:35really upped their game.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37It's taken a long, long time to get there, but hurray,

0:01:37 > 0:01:41we're there and we need to capitalise on it

0:01:41 > 0:01:44and do our very best.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47We've spoken to several tourism businesses right across Wales,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and it seems anecdotally at least, there's been an increase

0:01:50 > 0:01:53in the number of people visiting Wales from abroad.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56I have actually seen it with our cottage business,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59but I've also seen it driving round Wales.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Coming back from Harlech the other day, there were lots

0:02:03 > 0:02:07and lots of foreign numberplates.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10There's still another week until the kids go back to school

0:02:10 > 0:02:13and the deckchairs are put away for another year, so we'll have

0:02:13 > 0:02:16to wait until then to see the official figures.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20But if the picture here in Tenby is a link to go by, we are in for

0:02:20 > 0:02:23a record-breaking summer season.

0:02:23 > 0:02:2553 jobs are at risk after the company behind

0:02:25 > 0:02:27the Kingsmill and Allinson brands announced it's decision

0:02:27 > 0:02:30to close it's distribution depot in Flintshire.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31Following a consultation, Allied Bakeries has announced

0:02:31 > 0:02:34the site in Saltney will close in November and that every effort

0:02:34 > 0:02:41will be made to help staff secure alternative employment.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Thousands of people flocked to Rhyl's seafront today

0:02:43 > 0:02:45for the town's 8th annual Air Show.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46It's estimated 140,000 spectators will visit the Denbighshire

0:02:46 > 0:02:49town over the weekend.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53The event comes as new regulations are enforced following the Shoreham

0:02:53 > 0:02:58air-show disaster last year.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Safety has been paramount in planning for this particular event.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04As you probably know most of the events, the flying

0:03:04 > 0:03:06takes place over the sea.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09But we have worked very closely with the Civil Aviation Authority

0:03:09 > 0:03:11to make sure that the guidelines are fully adhered to and it should

0:03:11 > 0:03:14be a good weekend for everybody who wants to come to Rhyl

0:03:14 > 0:03:20to see the airshow.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23A Councillor from Aberdyfi has accused Gwynedd Council of taking

0:03:23 > 0:03:25advantage of tourists at the expense of local amenities.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Dewi Owen says it's unfair to expect the Comunity Council to contribute

0:03:28 > 0:03:30?6,000 to maintain the village's public toilets, when the local car

0:03:30 > 0:03:34park made a profit last year.

0:03:34 > 0:03:40If there's no agreement, the toilets are set to close.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43I have figures here of how much the car park over there made

0:03:43 > 0:03:46from tourism in seven months last year.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48And the figures I've got here is they made 144,000.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52That's how much they made from the car park last year.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55So I feel it's very irresponsible of them thinking

0:03:55 > 0:03:58that the toilets here cost them 15,000 and they want to close them.

0:03:58 > 0:04:06It's absolutely ridiculous.

0:04:06 > 0:04:07Gwynedd Council says because of budget cuts,

0:04:07 > 0:04:10it's looking to work in partnership with both Town

0:04:10 > 0:04:15and Community Councils to keep public toilets open.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18And some football results for you - in the Premier League Swansea lost

0:04:18 > 0:04:202-1 against current champions Leicester.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22In the Championship, Reading's late goal snatched a win

0:04:22 > 0:04:24against Cardiff City.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Hartlepool managed a 2-2 draw against Newport,

0:04:27 > 0:04:30that's despite playing most of the game with ten men.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33And Wrexham were defeated by a first-half hat-trick away

0:04:33 > 0:04:38against Dagenham and Redbridge.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41Let's take a quick look at the weather forecast:

0:04:41 > 0:04:44And showery rain will beomes widespread later this evening,

0:04:44 > 0:04:46especially in the north.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Lows overnight around 15 Celcius.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50Tomorrow morning then, scattered showers,

0:04:50 > 0:04:53some of them heavy - will push in from the South West,

0:04:53 > 0:04:54becoming a bit brighter in the afternoon.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56High's tomorrow of 22 Celcius.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58And that's all from us for now, we'll be back

0:04:58 > 0:04:59at 6:50pm tomorrow evening.

0:04:59 > 0:05:05I hope you can join us then, hwyl fawr, goodbye.
