0:00:13 > 0:00:14Good evening.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Welsh Labour politicians are calling for party unity

0:00:16 > 0:00:18after Jeremy Corbyn's re-election as Labour leader.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21His challenger, the Pontypridd MP Owen Smith, secured

0:00:21 > 0:00:2438.2% of the vote.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26From Liverpool, here's our parliamentary correspondent,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29David Cornock.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31I am therefore, conference, delighted to declare Jeremy Corbyn

0:00:31 > 0:00:36elected leader of the Labour Party.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Great news for these Corbyn supporters in Cardiff,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41less good news for Owen Smith.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45But the newly re-elected leader had warm words for the challenger.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48I want to say thank you to Owen Smith as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Owen, we've had an interesting summer of debate all over

0:00:50 > 0:00:53the country, thank you very much for all of that,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56for the good discussions and good-humoured debates we've had,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59which no doubt we'll continue, because we're part of the same

0:00:59 > 0:01:03Labour family, and that's how it's always going to be.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Jeremy Corbyn says he accepts he has a responsibility to unite Labour.

0:01:07 > 0:01:11But he says that's a responsibility shared by the party's MPs,

0:01:11 > 0:01:16many of whom have said they have no confidence in his leadership.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Owen Smith has said he wouldn't rejoin the Shadow Cabinet.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Although he'll reflect on his future role, he stands by his criticism

0:01:24 > 0:01:26of Mr Corbyn's leadership.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30Jeremy's great challenge now is having won the party,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32he needs to win the country.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35That's obviously a much bigger challenge, a much longer challenge,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and we will all need to figure out what our roles are in assisting him

0:01:38 > 0:01:41in taking Labour back to power.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Another Welsh former member of Jeremy Corbyn's top team

0:01:44 > 0:01:47could well return.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49I think what's very important is that we have a really good,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52representative cross-section of people at all levels.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55And it would be on that sort of basis that I would, myself,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57be prepared to serve.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59I certainly would not want to be part of something

0:01:59 > 0:02:01which is factional.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Even those loyal to the leader recognise that he needs to do

0:02:04 > 0:02:06more to unite Labour.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09We can't carry on as we have done for the last 12 months,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11because the polls show the public don't like divided parties.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15So there's a special personal responsibility on Jeremy,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19as the elected leader, in order to make those changes

0:02:19 > 0:02:22and those compromises to unite the party.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Back in Cardiff, Jeremy Corbyn supporters were jubilant.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27He's reaching sections of the population, I think.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31He's bringing them into politics, they're coming to the rallies,

0:02:31 > 0:02:35they're joining the party, they're listening to the debates.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39This is fresh, this is new, this is very positive.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Jeremy Corbyn has now won over his party twice.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46First Minister Carwyn Jones said that was a remarkable achievement,

0:02:46 > 0:02:51but winning over the country will be more of a challenge.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Cutting the higher rate of income tax in Wales would raise additional

0:02:54 > 0:02:56revenue for the country, according to research

0:02:56 > 0:02:58by Cardiff Business School.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02A new report says cutting the rate from 40 to 30% in Wales

0:03:02 > 0:03:03would encourage higher earners to move here,

0:03:03 > 0:03:09and could raise ?500 million a year after ten years.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12A 33-year-old man arrested in Cardiff on Thursday

0:03:12 > 0:03:15on suspicion of terror offences is still being questioned

0:03:15 > 0:03:17at a central London police station.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Police sources indicated yesterday the arrest relates to a possible

0:03:19 > 0:03:22attack within the UK.

0:03:22 > 0:03:27Two houses in Cardiff have been searched by police.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29A concert is being held tonight to celebrate

0:03:29 > 0:03:32the 90th anniversary of the Stiwt Theatre, near Wrexham.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35The theatre was built with money raised by local miners.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39They included the grandfather of the conductor Owain Arwel Hughes,

0:03:39 > 0:03:43who's the patron of tonight's concert.

0:03:43 > 0:03:44It was built in 1926.

0:03:44 > 0:03:51The local miners, despite being on strike, were giving 2p a week out

0:03:51 > 0:03:56of their wages towards the funding.

0:03:56 > 0:04:04And the place was eventually opened September the 26th, I believe, 1926.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Football, and in the Premier League, Swansea City lost 3-1 at home

0:04:07 > 0:04:11to Manchester City, who remain unbeaten so far this season.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Better news for Cardiff City though, they beat Rotherham 2-1

0:04:14 > 0:04:18with Rickie Lambert scoring twice within five minutes.

0:04:18 > 0:04:19And at the Racecourse, the derby between

0:04:19 > 0:04:25Wrexham and Chester ended in a 0-0 draw in the National League.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Rugby, and in the Guinness Pro 12,

0:04:28 > 0:04:33the Cardiff Blues are currently leading away to Zebre.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35The first half is just drawing to a close.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38The Scarlets, who are looking for their first win of the season,

0:04:38 > 0:04:43face Connacht later, the kick off's at 7:35.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46A look at the weather forecast now, and wind and rain will continue

0:04:46 > 0:04:48to sweep eastwards during the night, affecting the whole

0:04:48 > 0:04:50country by midnight.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53Tomorrow will be sunny but rather blustery with thundery showers.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58Feeling cooler than today with highs of 16 Celsius.

0:04:58 > 0:04:59That's Wales Today.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01We're back tomorrow evening at 6:50pm.

0:05:01 > 0:05:02Goodbye.
