:00:22. > :00:26.policies in relation to autism the "chance to bed in",

:00:27. > :00:29.but campaigners say an Autism Bill must be introduced.

:00:43. > :00:48.In the beginning, it was really hard.

:00:49. > :00:54.You literally get a diagnosis and you get handed a book -

:00:55. > :00:57.this is autism - and sent on your way with nothing.

:00:58. > :01:00.It's really isolating, and it's actually quite depressing.

:01:01. > :01:03.Mason and Logan are two of an estimated 34,000 children

:01:04. > :01:14.and adults in Wales with autism, a lifelong developmental disability

:01:15. > :01:19.that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

:01:20. > :01:21.There are varying degrees of autism that affects a wider

:01:22. > :01:23.community of around 136,000, including families and carers,

:01:24. > :01:28.That's why a few weeks ago in the Senate, opposition parties

:01:29. > :01:30.called on the Welsh Government to introduce a law that

:01:31. > :01:34.would guarantee the rights of autistic people.

:01:35. > :01:36.The motion was defeated because Labour AMs and Liberal

:01:37. > :01:39.Democrat Kirsty Williams - who's a member of the Welsh

:01:40. > :01:44.But campaigners maintain an Autism Act is needed.

:01:45. > :01:50.The Welsh Government has an autism strategy.

:01:51. > :01:53.It was the first of its kind in the United Kingdom and it has

:01:54. > :01:57.achieved a great deal in terms of raising awareness,

:01:58. > :02:00.but there's a real feeling now that more needs to be done

:02:01. > :02:05.The door is very much open and we're keeping everything

:02:06. > :02:11.However, as I say, the act and the integrated autism service -

:02:12. > :02:23.both major things in terms of delivering to people with autism

:02:24. > :02:27.- are only six months old, so we do need to give them a chance

:02:28. > :02:31.Ultimately, whether it's a new strategy or an act,

:02:32. > :02:33.it's about ensuring that Logan, Mason and others with autism
