:01:02. > :01:09.Alan is now off the streets and drink thanks to the

:01:10. > :01:11.support he's received from organisations like the Walloch

:01:12. > :01:13.charity, but the latest figures released by the Welsh

:01:14. > :01:15.government show the number of people sleeping rough

:01:16. > :01:19.Some of their results are based on a simple headcount carried

:01:20. > :01:26.The estimated total number of people sleeping rough on the Welsh streets

:01:27. > :01:36.That's an increase of 72% in 12 months.

:01:37. > :01:38.That snapshot count followed another piece of research

:01:39. > :01:50.During that fortnight an estimated 313 people

:01:51. > :01:53.were found to be sleeping rough in Wales, up from 240 in 2015.

:01:54. > :01:56.Tackling homelessness has been a priority for successive Welsh

:01:57. > :02:00.governments, and recent housing legislation aims to make sure more

:02:01. > :02:04.help is available for people at risk of losing their home.

:02:05. > :02:05.We're better at preventing homelessness than we

:02:06. > :02:08.used to be, but we're not so good at helping people

:02:09. > :02:15.into that hole and once they are living on the streets.

:02:16. > :02:19.The Welsh government said it recognises that there is

:02:20. > :02:22.more to do and has made money available to help homeless people

:02:23. > :02:27.regain their independence, like Alan has.
