:00:50. > :00:52.But they can prove dangerous and that's why North Wales Police
:00:53. > :00:55.are out again, as part of a Wales-wide operation
:00:56. > :01:01.Operation Darwen is about road safety for everybody.
:01:02. > :01:04.What we do see, sadly, though, is that motorcyclists,
:01:05. > :01:07.some motorcyclists do come to our attention more
:01:08. > :01:12.Motorbikes make up just 0.2% of traffic in Wales
:01:13. > :01:15.but they account for 41% of deaths and serious injuries.
:01:16. > :01:18.But for the first time in five years, the number of motorcyclists
:01:19. > :01:21.killed or injured in road accidents here has dropped.
:01:22. > :01:25.Figures show there were 693 incidents in 2015, that's compared
:01:26. > :01:30.to a seven-year high in 2014, of 749.
:01:31. > :01:33.A step in the right direction but for some,
:01:34. > :01:40.Not only has the amount of traffic escalated,
:01:41. > :01:44.that is a mix of cars, motorbikes and cyclists.
:01:45. > :01:47.That's a concern because you've got people who go slowly and people
:01:48. > :01:52.who go moderately and some people who go very fast.
:01:53. > :01:56.And on bends round the Horseshoe Pass, that can be dangerous.
:01:57. > :02:00.Operation Darwen runs from spring through to the autumn when officers
:02:01. > :02:04.will regularly patrol the roads favoured by bikers.
:02:05. > :02:08.They say it's all about raising awareness and ensuring motorists
:02:09. > :02:14.enjoy some of Wales' most scenic routes safely.
:02:15. > :02:18.Three local authorities are to avoid fines of more than ?600,000,
:02:19. > :02:23.for missing a recycling target last year.
:02:24. > :02:25.Newport, Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen should've recycled
:02:26. > :02:33.But the Welsh Government has decided not to penalise them -
:02:34. > :02:36.saying it expects their performance to improve.
:02:37. > :02:40.The National Library of Wales is part of a new sound archive network.
:02:41. > :02:43.It'll become one of ten "sound preservations centres", that'll work
:02:44. > :02:46.with the British Library to protect rare and unique recordings.
