:00:12. > :00:17.Our Olympic golds are at least providing a welcome distraction

:00:18. > :00:22.that our weather falls well short of a medal position. Showers in

:00:22. > :00:25.Eastern England in the next few hours. Of note is this spiralling

:00:25. > :00:27.cloud. The telltale sign of low pressure to the west. A cluster of

:00:27. > :00:32.storms around that. The spiral itself an indication of longer

:00:32. > :00:34.spells of rain. As part of that gets closer to the south-west of

:00:34. > :00:37.Northern Ireland, through tonight with wetter conditions by dawn,

:00:37. > :00:41.still affecting the far north of Scotland as well, but in between,

:00:41. > :00:46.most of the showers will fade. A few heavy ones still possible in

:00:46. > :00:50.the west, but many of us go into Friday on a dry, reasonably mild

:00:50. > :00:53.note. It's not going to stay that way for all of us. If anything,

:00:53. > :00:57.more showers around Friday than there were today. That include at

:00:57. > :01:00.the events at Weymouth and Eton Dorney. Eton in particular, a cross

:01:00. > :01:03.wind here coming from the south- west. If we do see some showers get

:01:03. > :01:08.close by during the morning, the wind will be rather gusty. We will

:01:08. > :01:14.take the showers that develop across the south coast early on

:01:14. > :01:18.towards the south and East Anglia. Brighter conditions, then spirals

:01:18. > :01:21.of cloud bring in longer spells of rain through the day initially in

:01:21. > :01:23.Northern Ireland, but spreading into western England and Wales and

:01:23. > :01:28.south-west Scotland for the afternoon. Alternatively, we start

:01:28. > :01:33.to see things brighten up in the north-west of Scotland. A lot of

:01:33. > :01:37.dry and bright weather, and for Northern Ireland, I suspect it will

:01:37. > :01:44.be brighter than the morning. For England and Wales a similar day to

:01:44. > :01:47.today - some sunshine, but some heavy, potentially thundery showers.

:01:47. > :01:51.To the south-east, maybe fewer showers during the afternoon than

:01:51. > :02:01.you'll see in the morning. There is the potential we could stay dry for

:02:01. > :02:06.the first day of the athletics, the Olympic stadium. The risks ease off

:02:06. > :02:09.through the evening. In Coventry, team GB take on Canada.

:02:09. > :02:15.Showers won't be too far away. We'll see showers into the at ooh

:02:15. > :02:18.night into the weekend. That is because that same area of low

:02:18. > :02:21.pressure pushes home. The atmosphere is really loaded to
