:00:16. > :00:20.Atlantic and there is a strong link. It has been a very cold start to the
:00:21. > :00:26.winter in Canada and northern parts of the USA. That has created a very
:00:27. > :00:30.strong temperature contrast. The atmosphere tries to even that out
:00:31. > :00:36.and that is what the weather is all about and it generates the
:00:37. > :00:40.Jetstream. It runs across from west to east across the Atlantic and the
:00:41. > :00:44.stronger the Jetstream, the bigger the storms that come our way. The
:00:45. > :00:52.most recent storm has been producing very strong winds through today as
:00:53. > :00:55.it ran across the north of Scotland. It's dropped the pressure which
:00:56. > :01:01.increased the threat from those very high tides. It has not been a great
:01:02. > :01:09.combination. We have got some severe flood warnings in force. But the
:01:10. > :01:14.weather will start to improve overnight. The winds begin to die
:01:15. > :01:19.down. That has been a key factor for today. It will be light enough by
:01:20. > :01:24.the end of the night for a touch of frost. Maybe some icy patches here
:01:25. > :01:30.and there to the start of the day on Saturday. Further south it is more
:01:31. > :01:35.rain that is coming back in. It will be a bit patchy. We are not quite
:01:36. > :01:44.sure where the heaviest rain will be. It will drop onto saturated
:01:45. > :01:47.ground and will cause a few problems, but that will be fairly
:01:48. > :01:53.localised. As we move north it turns to snow. Eastern parts of northern
:01:54. > :01:58.Ireland and even some snow on lower levels is possible. The northern
:01:59. > :02:04.half of Scotland stays dry and with lighter winds. Lighter winds across
:02:05. > :02:09.England and Wales. Dry in the afternoon, but some pretty big waves
:02:10. > :02:13.crashing on to the coast. This storm comes in on Sunday and it is
:02:14. > :02:18.battering the eastern side of the United States at the moment, so it
:02:19. > :02:23.will take some time to get to us. Again there will be gales in the
:02:24. > :02:29.western areas particularly. The amount of the rain and the extent of
:02:30. > :02:30.the gales will not cause as many problems as over the last few days.
