:00:00. > :00:00.most part with a high of 21 or 22. Into the start of the new week,
:00:00. > :00:00.changeable weather Into the start of the new week,
:00:00. > :00:12.changeable weather to say the least. Good evening, mixed, unsettled,
:00:13. > :00:15.changeable, many words you could use to describe the weather we've had in
:00:16. > :00:19.the last week but heatwave would not be one of them. That is a far cry
:00:20. > :00:23.from the weather we have been seeing across southern Europe. Today was
:00:24. > :00:27.another day of dangerous heat in places from the Balkans westwards
:00:28. > :00:31.towards southern Spain, temperatures well up into the 40s, close to 45
:00:32. > :00:35.degrees in parts of southern Spain, a lot of this down to the jet
:00:36. > :00:39.stream, southern Europe is on the southern side of the jet stream and
:00:40. > :00:45.we are on the northern side of it, the cold side of the jet stream. It
:00:46. > :00:48.is the jet stream, the winds high in the atmosphere, that pushes the
:00:49. > :00:52.weather systems around the globe. And you can see we have a queue of
:00:53. > :00:56.them waiting in the wings to moving over the next few days. The weekend
:00:57. > :01:01.essentially stays pretty changeable with a mixture of sunshine and heavy
:01:02. > :01:05.showers and generally a rather cool feel to the weather. Back to the
:01:06. > :01:08.here and now, this evening and tonight, Central and eastern areas
:01:09. > :01:12.largely dry with a passing shower, more showers in Northern Ireland and
:01:13. > :01:16.Scotland, which will drift into Wales and the south-west and
:01:17. > :01:19.temperatures of 9-15. Tomorrow is a day of sunshine and showers but
:01:20. > :01:22.particularly in the morning across Wales at the south-west and then
:01:23. > :01:25.later through the Midlands, East Anglia and eventually the
:01:26. > :01:28.south-east, we will see some really heavy showers drifting through with
:01:29. > :01:32.hail and thunder. It could give a lot of rain in a short space of
:01:33. > :01:36.time. Further north, not as many showers but there could still be the
:01:37. > :01:40.odd hefty downpour later in the day, the showers should ease away to some
:01:41. > :01:45.extent for Northern Ireland and north-west Scotland but temperatures
:01:46. > :01:48.disappointing for August, 16-21. As the World Championship athletics
:01:49. > :01:51.continues in London, there could well be heavy, Bunbury showers in
:01:52. > :01:55.the afternoon but the risk of a shower decreases as we go into the
:01:56. > :02:00.evening. That is the story for just about all of us. Things become
:02:01. > :02:04.largely dry with clear spells and a ridge of high pressure building, and
:02:05. > :02:08.with light winds, and unusually cold night for August, surprisingly cold
:02:09. > :02:11.I suspect if you live in the countryside, look at the
:02:12. > :02:15.temperatures, maybe two degrees in the sheltered glens of Scotland,
:02:16. > :02:20.otherwise single digits and even a touch of grass frost in places.
:02:21. > :02:24.After a cool start, a dry day for many on Sunday, particularly central
:02:25. > :02:28.and eastern areas, more cloudy to the West with rain splashing
:02:29. > :02:30.sporadically in later in the day and temperatures 15-22.
