0:00:00 > 0:00:00best day of the weekend I think is going to be Sunday, then Monday

0:00:00 > 0:00:01looking

0:00:01 > 0:00:04going to be Sunday, then Monday looking a bit milder. Now the

0:00:04 > 0:00:09National weather. Good evening. As we approach the

0:00:09 > 0:00:13weekend there are signs that mother nature may well release her win grip

0:00:13 > 0:00:17across the UK. But that said, look at the Highlands this afternoon,

0:00:17 > 0:00:22where temperatures barely got above freezing, and there is still 15

0:00:22 > 0:00:25centimetres of lying snow. In parts of Hertfordshire and the south-east

0:00:25 > 0:00:30we had some sunshine. The snow is melting quite nicely. The weekend

0:00:30 > 0:00:34snowman now a distant memory. It was a mess today, however you look at

0:00:34 > 0:00:38it. Yes, we had some sunshine to the east, but there were bands of

0:00:38 > 0:00:41showers and the showers had a wintry flavour, rain and sleet and snow

0:00:41 > 0:00:45mixed in, and they are moving their way south and east. They will

0:00:45 > 0:00:48continue to do so through the night to night, accompanied by blustery

0:00:48 > 0:00:56winds. Behind it, clear skies, some ice could form particularly through

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Northern England and Scotland. Temperatures close to freezing. A

0:00:58 > 0:01:02cold start, there will be showers around but let's look at a Taione in

0:01:02 > 0:01:06more detail. A slightly quieter day for Scotland. Showers hopefully few

0:01:06 > 0:01:10and far between. The winds swing around to a northerly direction,

0:01:10 > 0:01:14more showers coming in off the North Sea and similar in eastern England

0:01:14 > 0:01:18as well. Along with the showers across the North we'll see one or

0:01:18 > 0:01:21two down through Wales and in south-west England. Elsewhere,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24hopefully the cloud should break up quite nicely and will start to see

0:01:24 > 0:01:29some sunshine coming through. A cold morning for many of us first thing.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32As we go through the day the northerly wind will continue to

0:01:32 > 0:01:35drive in the showers across the East Coast and one or two to the

0:01:35 > 0:01:38south-west. Sandwiched in between the two, the cloud will break up and

0:01:38 > 0:01:44the sunshine will come through. Not looking particularly warm, 4-8d,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47with a few wintry showers particularly to the north-west of

0:01:47 > 0:01:51the great Glen. As we go through the night it looks likely we'll see a

0:01:51 > 0:01:54widespread frost. A cold night developing across the country, with

0:01:54 > 0:01:59the exception out towards the West and I'll come onto that in a moment.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03The cold air stays with us for the start of the weekend. Looking out of

0:02:03 > 0:02:06the south-west, the winds change direction yet again. It will drive

0:02:06 > 0:02:12in milder air across the country. A change into Sunday. Saturday starts

0:02:12 > 0:02:14off cold and frosty. Northern Ireland, Wales and south-west

0:02:14 > 0:02:19England a little more cloudy, more breeze and a few scattered showers,

0:02:19 > 0:02:236-8d here but despite the frost and the sunshine coming through,

0:02:23 > 0:02:28temperatures will struggle, 2-3 to the north and east. As we move into

0:02:28 > 0:02:28Sunday,
