0:00:00 > 0:00:00bit brighter but temperatures in double figures so it will stay on

0:00:00 > 0:00:00the mild side

0:00:01 > 0:00:04double figures so it will stay on the mild side up to Christmas. Ben

0:00:04 > 0:00:09Reeves has your national weather picture.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12Good evening, if you are already making travel plans for your

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Christmas break I think on the way they're the weather might not cause

0:00:15 > 0:00:18too many issues, but it might be that straightforward on the way home

0:00:18 > 0:00:22as I will show you in the moment. The jet stream for the time being,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25the winds high in the atmosphere driving the weather systems around

0:00:25 > 0:00:29the world, it is sitting to the north of the British Isles taking

0:00:29 > 0:00:32the active weather away to the north, leaving us with this area of

0:00:32 > 0:00:37high pressure. If you are thinking high pressure means clear skies and

0:00:37 > 0:00:41sunshine, well, not this time. Trapped underneath the high there is

0:00:41 > 0:00:44lots of cloud, mist and murk and some spots of drizzle and that's the

0:00:44 > 0:00:48sort of weather that will continue through to night, and along the line

0:00:48 > 0:00:52of this riding weather front we will continue to season outbreaks of rain

0:00:52 > 0:00:55at times. Some clear spells across north-east Scotland, where it will

0:00:55 > 0:00:58turn chilly but with the cloud and mist and fog further south and west

0:00:58 > 0:01:03it will be a mild night. Into tomorrow we can follow our weather

0:01:03 > 0:01:07front gradually northwards once again, taking in some rain through

0:01:07 > 0:01:11parts of northern England and Northern Ireland. To the south of

0:01:11 > 0:01:14that predominantly dry but predominantly crowd, cloudy, some

0:01:14 > 0:01:17mist and drizzle over the hills in the west, the best chance of

0:01:17 > 0:01:20brightness over the north and east of Scotland, the lowest temperatures

0:01:20 > 0:01:24are six in Aberdeen and up to 11 in Plymouth. And on Friday, essentially

0:01:24 > 0:01:28more of the same, most likely to seek patchy rain in the south first

0:01:28 > 0:01:32thing, and then there is a better chance, slightly more optimistic of

0:01:32 > 0:01:35some sunshine through eastern England, north-east England but

0:01:35 > 0:01:38still quite murky for the hills in the west, still miles for most of

0:01:38 > 0:01:43us. And then we get into the weekend, Saturday, some rain

0:01:43 > 0:01:45starting to show its hand in north-west Scotland, conversely if

0:01:45 > 0:01:50we get brightness in eastern Scotland, much milder day to come in

0:01:50 > 0:01:53for most it will be dry and cloudy. Similar story in the south on

0:01:53 > 0:01:57Christmas Eve, more of a breeze by this stage, noticed the rain still

0:01:57 > 0:02:00swarming up to the north-west, and then what about the big day itself?

0:02:00 > 0:02:05This frontal system as it wriggles its way around, will bring outbreaks

0:02:05 > 0:02:09of rain in north-western areas. To the north of that, some cold air not

0:02:09 > 0:02:14far away, but most of us look like staying in the mild air. Generally

0:02:14 > 0:02:18mild for Christmas day, some rain in the north, but what about after

0:02:18 > 0:02:22Christmas? Let's go back to the jet stream. Because, through next week

0:02:22 > 0:02:26it looks like the jet will become much drongo blowing straight across

0:02:26 > 0:02:30the Atlantic ringing areas of low pressure are
