0:00:00 > 0:00:00going to be towards the weekend, on the cool side with cloud around and
0:00:00 > 0:00:01limited amounts of
0:00:01 > 0:00:03the cool side with cloud around and limited amounts of sunshine. Here is
0:00:03 > 0:00:09Matt Taylor with the national. Good evening. Over the last 24 hours
0:00:09 > 0:00:14we have seen snow in the Sahara, snow as deep as I am tall falling in
0:00:14 > 0:00:18the space of one day in alpine regions, that's led to an extreme
0:00:18 > 0:00:22avalanche risk and lots of travel problems in the area. For us, we
0:00:22 > 0:00:26have had a grey as far as the eyes can see. What is happening out
0:00:26 > 0:00:32there? We have had cold air across in the US and Canada, that's helped
0:00:32 > 0:00:37to fire up an active jet stream, close towards us it's been dipping
0:00:37 > 0:00:41south, taking the interesting weather with it, leaving us in a
0:00:41 > 0:00:45no-man's-land where nothing changes in any great hurry. Even tonight,
0:00:45 > 0:00:48this weather front which will bring some big changes for a few tomorrow,
0:00:48 > 0:00:52it's only slowly pushing eastwards, not much wind on it. Patchy rain or
0:00:52 > 0:00:55drizzle by the time it reaches Scotland. Clearing skies, Northern
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Ireland, Wales and the south-west, there could be frost into tomorrow
0:00:58 > 0:01:01morning. Dense patches of fog, particularly in Northern Ireland
0:01:01 > 0:01:06where it could be icy first thing. But at last a return to sunnier
0:01:06 > 0:01:09skies. Northern and central and eastern England and a good part of
0:01:09 > 0:01:17Scotland, you will start with grey again. Outbreaks of rain or drizzle.
0:01:17 > 0:01:21And that means more of you will see sunshine by this stage and with
0:01:21 > 0:01:24winds lighter and the sun out it's going to feel better than it has
0:01:24 > 0:01:27done the last few days. Maybe showers to the south-west to end the
0:01:27 > 0:01:31day. It will stay wet into tomorrow night across parts of north-east
0:01:31 > 0:01:34Scotland. For most with light winds it's going to be a different problem
0:01:34 > 0:01:38to take us through the night and into Thursday. A widespread frost
0:01:38 > 0:01:43will develop and we will see dense patches of fog. Thursday and Friday
0:01:43 > 0:01:52morning that could be the big commuting nightmare. On Thursday
0:01:52 > 0:01:55Northern Ireland, maybe parts of central and southern England could
0:01:55 > 0:02:02be murky and one or two under that fog all day. Away from the lingering
0:02:02 > 0:02:06fog it will remain chilly. Most will see sunny spells. After a colder
0:02:06 > 0:02:11night it will feel fairly chilly. As it will do on Friday. Frost and fog
0:02:11 > 0:02:14potentially, this time central and eastern parts. For some a brighter
0:02:14 > 0:02:19day so far this week. In the west the breeze picks up on Friday, rain
0:02:19 > 0:02:21spreads to Northern Ireland and that weather front dries to push
0:02:21 > 0:02:28eastwards through to the weekend but not much wind on it again, grey
0:02:28 > 0:02:29skies to the weekend.
