0:00:00 > 0:00:01Friday looks nice, still fairly cool, mild into the

0:00:01 > 0:00:09cool, mild into the weekend. Now the National forecast with Phil Avery.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14With Storm Georgina not 1 million miles away, the day was always going

0:00:14 > 0:00:19to be wet and windy. The satellite picture tells the tale, close to the

0:00:19 > 0:00:22north of Scotland but many more of you will have seen this portion of

0:00:22 > 0:00:25the weather front which brought in its own rights and very wet and

0:00:25 > 0:00:29really quite windy weather. The rain has eventually cleared away

0:00:29 > 0:00:34from the very far south-east, sunny spells that I didn't showers. Some

0:00:34 > 0:00:40of the rain and snow melt contributed to the situation in York

0:00:40 > 0:00:43and in Dumfries the river was also an issue.

0:00:43 > 0:00:48The other half of the story was the strength of the winds. Nowhere worse

0:00:48 > 0:00:52perhaps than the far north of Scotland, but even as far south as

0:00:52 > 0:00:58Cromwell, 60 mph. The waste really crashed over the sea defences in the

0:00:58 > 0:01:03western side of Highland Scotland. Getting a bit quieter now, still

0:01:03 > 0:01:07quite breezy with some gusts in excess of 40 mph or so.

0:01:07 > 0:01:11Low pressure tracking in towards Northern Ireland, not with the same

0:01:11 > 0:01:14intensity as Georgina. Not a particularly cold night for

0:01:14 > 0:01:19many but there could be ice and frost across the northern Scotland,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21some winteriness there. Bright enough across the eastern

0:01:21 > 0:01:26side of the British Isles, near to the centre of the lull, Northern

0:01:26 > 0:01:31Ireland, plenty of showers. By the middle of the day, do not be

0:01:31 > 0:01:34surprised to see a little bit of winteriness about the showers, there

0:01:34 > 0:01:39are plenty of them in western areas. Central Scotland and eastern England

0:01:39 > 0:01:42and places could get away with essentially a dry look to your

0:01:42 > 0:01:44weather. Through the evening and overnight,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48that centre transfers to the North Sea which allows something of a

0:01:48 > 0:01:53north-westerly breeze to set up across the British Isles, a cool

0:01:53 > 0:01:57start, maybe frosty. Some breeze across the eastern shores, maybe a

0:01:57 > 0:02:07shower or two but you get the sense that it is a pretty decent day.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Plenty of sunshine to go around, I would have thought. It does not do

0:02:11 > 0:02:12an awful lot for temperatures, but with the absence of meaningful

0:02:12 > 0:02:14winter for many, 9 degrees feels very pleasant.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Just in time for the weekend we bring in the first weather spread

0:02:16 > 0:02:19from the Atlantic, some rain for many parts.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23As we get into Sunday the rain becomes confined to the

0:02:23 > 0:02:27north-western quarter of Scotland. What does that mean for the weekend?

0:02:27 > 0:02:29I suspect there will be
