0:00:01 > 0:00:03double-figure temperatures all the way, enough of me, here is the

0:00:03 > 0:00:05national weather picture.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12Good evening. Strong winds, heavy rain and snow keep on coming thick

0:00:12 > 0:00:17and fast at the moment and a lot of that is down to the jet stream, the

0:00:17 > 0:00:21winds high above our heads way up in the atmosphere, which are blowing in

0:00:21 > 0:00:24a pretty brisk fashion at the moment across the Atlantic continuing to

0:00:24 > 0:00:29spin up areas of low pressure, just like this one, which is sliding in

0:00:29 > 0:00:34our direction at the moment. This frontal system will bring rain for

0:00:34 > 0:00:38some and snow for others and ahead of that the winds will strengthen,

0:00:38 > 0:00:42gales like Team Austin areas through the rest of the night, the winds

0:00:42 > 0:00:45touching 70 mph across western parts of Scotland. Rain and some snow

0:00:45 > 0:00:49sliding into the west but ahead of that under clear skies a cold night

0:00:49 > 0:00:55with a widespread frost and potential for some ice. A bright

0:00:55 > 0:00:59start for many central Andes din areas tomorrow, not so out west. We

0:00:59 > 0:01:04see the cloud, outbreaks of rain mostly in the south, but from North

0:01:04 > 0:01:09Wales, North Midlands, North Woods we will see some snow. For some time

0:01:09 > 0:01:11we could see the snowfall at low levels and become increasingly

0:01:11 > 0:01:17confined to high ground, north-west Scotland has seen 12 centimetres of

0:01:17 > 0:01:20snow, seven centimetres in the Southern uplands, strong and gusty

0:01:20 > 0:01:24winds blowing it around, snow in the Pennines, the Peak District, the

0:01:24 > 0:01:28hills of North Wales. Further south it will mainly be rain falling from

0:01:28 > 0:01:32the cloud, perhaps something like sleet over the high ground as it

0:01:32 > 0:01:36works through the afternoon. The snow further north increasingly

0:01:36 > 0:01:41confined to high ground, brisk winds, but noticed something milder

0:01:41 > 0:01:45out west, 10 degrees in Belfast, 11 in Plymouth through the afternoon.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48It will be a wet Wednesday evening across parts of eastern England as

0:01:48 > 0:01:52we push the frontal system away East. Agent mainly be gone by

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Thursday morning and then on Thursday it is a bright day, plenty

0:01:55 > 0:02:00of sunshine to be had, the further north and west you are, greater

0:02:00 > 0:02:03chance of wintry showers particularly Northern Ireland and

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Scotland, still on the cool side here. Further south, ten or 11

0:02:07 > 0:02:10degrees and with sunshine it will feel pleasant and that is a sign of

0:02:10 > 0:02:14things to come. Remember the active jet stream. As we head into the

0:02:14 > 0:02:17weekend it becomes a lot weaker, and instead of racing towards the

0:02:17 > 0:02:23British Isles it is deflecting a long way North, meaning it will turn

0:02:23 > 0:02:27quieter, more in the way of dry weather for the end of the week into

0:02:27 > 0:02:29the weekend, turning mild as well with double
