:14:07. > :14:13.accounts. The Israelis were first off the mark saying one of their

:14:13. > :14:23.vehicles on the Golan Heights was hit by gunfire from inside Syria.

:14:23. > :14:24.

:14:25. > :14:29.Syrian - Israeli forces then responded. It said an Israeli

:14:29. > :14:35.vehicle crossed the ceasefire line into Syrian territory proper. Then

:14:35. > :14:40.tried to approach a village in which there were armed terrorist groups.

:14:40. > :14:44.This vehicle was then fired on by Syrian forces who destroyed it and

:14:44. > :14:49.its contents, they say. This provoking the Israelis to fire two

:14:49. > :14:53.rockets back at a Syrian army position in the nearby village.

:14:53. > :14:59.Quite different accounts, but showing that something did happen

:14:59. > :15:03.and showing the potential for things. The Syrian statement did

:15:03. > :15:06.warn that any further, what it called attempt to breach the

:15:06. > :15:16.country's sovereignty, would attract an immediate response.

:15:16. > :15:19.For now, thank you. Stay with us. Still to come: As

:15:19. > :15:27.Learjets celebrates its 50th anniversary, why the age of the

:15:27. > :15:33.private jet isn't over, even at a time of economic austerity.

:15:33. > :15:37.Here, plans to legalise gay marriage are just about on track after the

:15:37. > :15:40.Prime Minister was offered a lifeline by his political rivals in

:15:40. > :15:45.the Labour Party. Some of his own Conservative MPs had attempted to

:15:45. > :15:50.derail the measure by trying to extend civil partnerships to

:15:50. > :16:00.heterosexual couples. On Monday night, the amendment was defeated by

:16:00. > :16:02.

:16:02. > :16:08.375 votes to 70. THE SPEAKER: Order. Order. The ayes

:16:08. > :16:13.to the right 70, the noes to the left 375. The noes have it. The noes

:16:13. > :16:17.have it. This was the moment gay marriages in England and Wales came

:16:17. > :16:21.closer than they have ever been before. Attempts to water down the

:16:21. > :16:25.Government's plans, or delay them, had failed. Earlier, the Minister

:16:25. > :16:30.charged with turning this legislation into law set out why she

:16:30. > :16:34.thought it was so important. Marriage is the bedrock of society

:16:34. > :16:38.and providing a stable foundation for families and communities. We

:16:38. > :16:45.want to ensure that people aren't prevented from marrying because they

:16:46. > :16:49.love someone of the same sex. means there will be an immediate

:16:49. > :16:54.review into extending civil partnerships, first introduced for

:16:54. > :16:57.gay couples, to heterosexual couples, too. More than 100 Tory MPs

:16:57. > :17:02.registered their objections to different parts of the legislation.

:17:02. > :17:05.Some in very strong terms. I fear that the playing field is not being

:17:05. > :17:12.levelled. I believe that the pendulum is now swinging so far the

:17:12. > :17:16.other way and there are plenty in the aggressive homosexual community

:17:16. > :17:20.who see this as a stepping stone to something even further. There will

:17:20. > :17:24.be further debate on the subject in the Commons today and then, it will

:17:25. > :17:29.be discussed in the Lords. Last night's vote brings gay marriage

:17:29. > :17:36.ceremonies a step closer. The first could take place as soon as the

:17:36. > :17:40.summer of next year. The health of the Pakistani

:17:40. > :17:47.politician now. You will remember he injured his back after falling from

:17:47. > :17:52.a makeshift platform at an election rally. He has now managed to stand

:17:52. > :18:00.up and had a spinal brace fitted after a series of x-rays. They are

:18:00. > :18:06.hoping he could be released from hospital tomorrow.

:18:06. > :18:10.This is BBC World News. The latest headlines: A giant tornado has cut a

:18:10. > :18:15.swathe of destruction through Oklahoma City killing at least 91

:18:16. > :18:18.people, including 20 children. A number of youngsters have been

:18:18. > :18:25.rescued from the rubble of their schools there. Many others are still

:18:25. > :18:29.missing. The emergency crews have been

:18:29. > :18:32.searching for survivors in the rubble in Oklahoma through the

:18:32. > :18:37.night. The two-mile-wide tornado flattened homes, businesses and

:18:37. > :18:42.schools. Search and rescue staff say that 24 children are believed to

:18:42. > :18:49.have been killed in one of the hard-hit elementary schools.

:18:49. > :18:53.What we were told by one of the leaders of the medical command post

:18:53. > :18:57.was that all of the children were in the Main Hall way, which is where

:18:57. > :19:05.they were supposed to be during their tornado drills and the roof

:19:05. > :19:08.collapsed on top of them. -- the main hallway. They suspected

:19:08. > :19:17.waterlines broke and they drowned. Do you believe that happened to all

:19:17. > :19:23.24? Yes, because they were all in that main hallway with debris on top

:19:23. > :19:27.of them. They were still looking for six people. They did not identify if

:19:27. > :19:30.those were children or adults, or all adults. They stated one child

:19:31. > :19:36.was still missing and they are looking for that person at this

:19:36. > :19:46.point. As far as 10.00, I hadn't heard the child had been recovered

:19:46. > :19:47.

:19:47. > :19:52.at that point. It is very solemn. Everyone is just doing their best to

:19:52. > :19:58.continue the recovery efforts, you know. A lot of it doesn't sink in

:19:58. > :20:03.until after the fact, you know, because we are in there trying to

:20:03. > :20:08.keep your game face on, so to speak. But, you know, once it's said and

:20:08. > :20:13.done, it hits you like a tonne of bricks! The firefighters were

:20:14. > :20:20.taking, they were going in in shifts and there was probably 400

:20:20. > :20:23.firefighters that were waiting to go in, as others were cutting so they

:20:23. > :20:27.were taking shifts. As one group is in, they will switch, then another

:20:27. > :20:34.group would go in. That way, they are not getting exhausted, or

:20:34. > :20:44.overworked, or hurt because they are being too exhausted with trying to

:20:44. > :20:45.

:20:45. > :20:49.get the children out. A lot of people are just very sad. I mean, as

:20:49. > :20:53.you can imagine, having to pull anybody, deceased, whether it be

:20:53. > :20:58.children or adults is going to be overwhelming for a person. At this

:20:58. > :21:08.point, when it went from a search and rescue to search and recovery,

:21:08. > :21:11.

:21:11. > :21:19.the mood over there has changed. Her Majesty the Queen here in London

:21:19. > :21:23.has sent a message of condolence to President Obama after that tornado.

:21:23. > :21:28.Her Majesty was sending "our deepest sympathies to all those whose lives

:21:28. > :21:30.have been affected". It is a sign of how far Burma has come since the

:21:31. > :21:35.release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi after many years of

:21:35. > :21:40.house arrest. The Burmese President has met President Obama for talks in

:21:40. > :21:45.the White House and the US President took the significant step of using

:21:45. > :21:50.the new name for Burma, Myanmar, which was adopted by the country's

:21:50. > :21:55.military rulers in 1989. The first visit by a Burmese leader

:21:55. > :21:59.in almost half a century. As President Thein Sein arrived at the

:21:59. > :22:04.White House, he must have spotted the protesters that lined his route.

:22:04. > :22:08.Eager to show their distaste and anger at this visit. That

:22:08. > :22:16.controversy would not have escaped President Obama. But he was keen to

:22:16. > :22:18.reflect on the positives that could be achieved from this meeting.

:22:18. > :22:22.indicated to President Sein, countries that are successful are

:22:22. > :22:32.countries that tap into the talents of all people and respect the rights

:22:32. > :22:33.

:22:33. > :22:37.of all people. I'm confident that if Myanmar follows that recipe, that it

:22:37. > :22:45.will be not only a successful democracy, but a thriving economy,

:22:45. > :22:49.too. President Obama has reason to be cautious. Sectarian violence

:22:49. > :22:54.against ethnic minorities, like these Muslims, have caused deep

:22:54. > :23:00.concern. The burning, looting and killing has intensified in the

:23:00. > :23:03.country. It's prompted some human rights groups to accuse the Burmese

:23:03. > :23:08.government of "ethnic cleansing". President Thein Sein was keen to

:23:08. > :23:12.stress his commitment to reform. TRANSLATION: We have a lot of

:23:12. > :23:15.challenges ahead of us. We have to thank the US government and the

:23:15. > :23:18.people's support and the understanding we will be able to

:23:18. > :23:23.encounter these challenges as we undertake the reform process in our

:23:23. > :23:28.country. And that is the message the Obama administration is hanging on

:23:28. > :23:36.to. The question is if President Thein Sein can deliver on his

:23:36. > :23:39.promises. Now, the ultimate executive toy

:23:39. > :23:44.celebrates its 50th birthday today. We are talking about the Learjet.

:23:44. > :23:47.The aircraft which started the craze for private jets and remains the

:23:47. > :23:50.ultimate in luxury travel. But be warned, they cost several million

:23:50. > :23:54.dollars a piece. Our business presenter has been asking whether

:23:54. > :23:59.there is still a future for the private jet in an age of economic

:23:59. > :24:03.austerity. For more than 50 years, the Learjet

:24:03. > :24:08.has come to symbolise luxury aircraft, synonymous with the rich

:24:08. > :24:12.and famous, it's been the tool of the wealthy business traveller. From

:24:12. > :24:18.these early models, to ones that we see today, Learjets and private jets

:24:18. > :24:22.like these are seen as the ultimate status symbol. In these tough

:24:22. > :24:27.economic times, is this less than austere mode of transport able to

:24:27. > :24:35.survive? In many, many cases, a business doesn't need to use a

:24:35. > :24:38.private jet. A business can use a commercial flight. It's a case of

:24:38. > :24:42.scheduling and organising the travel in the way that can utilise a

:24:42. > :24:46.commercial flight. Companies that sell and charter jets just like this

:24:46. > :24:54.one, they are starting to look well beyond those traditional markets in

:24:54. > :24:58.the US and Europe. That is because the likes of Asia, the Middle East

:24:58. > :25:04.and Africa are regions that can't get enough of these type of aircraft

:25:04. > :25:09.and well, that is exactly where this industry sees its future. Shaking

:25:09. > :25:17.off the image of the past is not easy. A number of high-profile

:25:17. > :25:21.crashes sparked a series of questions over safety standards. The

:25:21. > :25:25.US golfer Payne Stewart died in this accident in 1999. There are concerns

:25:25. > :25:30.about the environmental impact. Private jets leave a sizeable carbon

:25:30. > :25:37.footprint. I caught up with the CEO who spoke of the benefits of

:25:37. > :25:42.business jets. I know people see it as there for the rich and famous.

:25:42. > :25:46.It's really a lot deeper than that. If it was - if we had to rely on

:25:46. > :25:50.that work, we wouldn't be in business. But like them or loathe

:25:50. > :25:55.them, people are still buying these planes. In fact, over the next

:25:55. > :26:04.decade, 10,000 new jets are expected to enter the market. So it does look

:26:04. > :26:08.as though the likes of the Learjet are in it for the long-haul.

:26:09. > :26:18.I want to show you some rare images of one of the world's most

:26:19. > :26:20.

:26:20. > :26:24.endangered animals. These pictures have been released of Java leopards.

:26:24. > :26:30.They are classified as critically endangered. Amazingly, these are

:26:30. > :26:35.living less than 100 kilometres from Jakarta.

:26:35. > :26:39.The top story: These are some of the images that capture the devastation

:26:39. > :26:43.after a massive tornado struck the small town of Moore in Oklahoma

:26:43. > :26:48.killing at least 91 people. Two schools were directly in the storm's

:26:48. > :26:51.path and 20 children are amongst the dead. Residents were given 16

:26:51. > :26:56.minutes warning as the tornado approached. The search for survivors
