:00:00. > :00:09.This is Breakfast, with Naga Munchetty.

:00:10. > :00:11.The Queen will pay tribute to "ordinary people doing

:00:12. > :00:13.extraordinary things" when she delivers her annual

:00:14. > :00:21.Her Majesty will say that she draws strength from meeting those

:00:22. > :00:23.who inspire others, and will recognise the achievements

:00:24. > :00:37.of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

:00:38. > :00:39.Good morning, it's Christmas Day, Sunday, 25th December.

:00:40. > :00:50.A Russian military plane with more than 90 people onboard has

:00:51. > :00:52.disappeared just minutes after takeoff from the Black Sea resort

:00:53. > :00:54.off Sochi. The Archbishop of Westminster has

:00:55. > :00:56.spoken of the "anxiety and uncertainty" felt

:00:57. > :00:58.by many in the world as he gave his Christmas sermon

:00:59. > :01:02.during midnight mass. As a child in care the poet

:01:03. > :01:06.Lemn Sissay used to dread Christmas. We'll hear how he's now trying

:01:07. > :01:19.to make it a magical day for those For a lot of care leavers the memory

:01:20. > :01:20.is about one. We are creating memories.

:01:21. > :01:23.Matt Goss is among the guests on the Strictly Christmas Special

:01:24. > :01:26.I've been to take a sneak peek behind the scenes.

:01:27. > :01:38.Good morning. A very mild Christmas to you. It doesn't feel much like

:01:39. > :01:46.Christmas, but it will turn cold at today from the north. Windy, coming

:01:47. > :01:48.from Scotland. The full forecast coming up.

:01:49. > :01:51.The Queen has chosen 'inspiration' as the theme of her Christmas

:01:52. > :01:54.broadcast this year, and will speak of drawing strength

:01:55. > :01:58.from meeting ordinary people, who have done extraordinary things.

:01:59. > :02:01.She will spend today at her Sandringham estate in Norfolk

:02:02. > :02:03.with other members of the Royal Family.

:02:04. > :02:06.The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will spend Christmas Day

:02:07. > :02:08.with the Middleton family at their home in Berkshire.

:02:09. > :02:12.Here's our royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell.

:02:13. > :02:20.The queen recorded this year's broadcast a few days ago. Its theme

:02:21. > :02:24.this year is inspiration and in the broadcast will reflect on the

:02:25. > :02:28.achievements of Paralympic and Olympic athletes, any of whom she

:02:29. > :02:32.met at a palace reception in October and his achievements she will say a

:02:33. > :02:37.now inspiring others. And in this year when the queen has marked her

:02:38. > :02:40.90th birthday, she will refer to the inspirational work of the many

:02:41. > :02:43.charities with which she has been associated during her rain and we'll

:02:44. > :02:46.talk about the work of the many unsung heroes she meets around the

:02:47. > :02:51.country. Carers, community leaders and good neighbours. Ordinary

:02:52. > :02:56.people, as she puts it, doing extra ordinary things. The departure of

:02:57. > :03:00.the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh Cassandra to be delayed for 24 hours

:03:01. > :03:07.earlier in the week" were said to be from heavy colds. -- because both

:03:08. > :03:10.were said. But there's no reason to think they would be to any other

:03:11. > :03:17.members of the Royal family this morning the Christmas Day service.

:03:18. > :03:20.There will be sadness at the news that Zara Tyndall has lost the baby

:03:21. > :03:25.she was expecting with her husband. It would have been their second

:03:26. > :03:28.child. Absent from Sandrigham Beach he will be the Duke and Duchess of

:03:29. > :03:31.Cambridge and their two children. In a break with tradition they are

:03:32. > :03:34.having a family Christmas in Berkshire, at the home of the

:03:35. > :03:36.Duchess's parents. Let's speak now to our reporter

:03:37. > :03:39.Emilia Papadopoulos, who is at Sandringham

:03:40. > :03:47.for us this morning. Merry Christmas and good morning.

:03:48. > :03:55.What can we expect from the day ahead? A very Merry Christmas and

:03:56. > :03:59.good morning. I am in Santa -- Santa can. In a few hours the crowds will

:04:00. > :04:04.gather, all hoping to catch a glimpse of the queen and the royal

:04:05. > :04:08.family as they make their way to church for the traditional morning

:04:09. > :04:15.service. Before that the Queen will come to receive communion privately,

:04:16. > :04:20.that is if she is good -- in good health. They were here to arrive on

:04:21. > :04:24.Wednesday but came by helicopter on Thursday. The royal watchers will

:04:25. > :04:29.definitely be hoping to see Her Majesty on Christmas morning. Many

:04:30. > :04:33.of them were also hoping to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but I

:04:34. > :04:37.can tell you that they will be spending Christmas with the

:04:38. > :04:40.Middleton family in Berkshire, along with Prince George and Princess

:04:41. > :04:43.Charlotte. But they did have a festive lunch with the Queen at

:04:44. > :04:47.Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. At Prince Harry and other members of

:04:48. > :04:51.the family are expected to be here today. They all arrived yesterday

:04:52. > :04:55.for the traditional Christmas celebrations and many other families

:04:56. > :04:58.this is a chance for them to all get together and catch up after a very

:04:59. > :05:02.busy year, so they will head the church later after a full English

:05:03. > :05:07.breakfast and then go home for Christmas lunch and settle down to

:05:08. > :05:11.watch the Queen's speech. But we are expecting the Queen and the Duke of

:05:12. > :05:12.Edinburgh to leave the family to church on Christmas morning. Thanks

:05:13. > :05:22.very much. A Russian military plane has

:05:23. > :05:25.disappeared from radar just minutes after taking off from the Black Sea

:05:26. > :05:27.resort at Sochi. There were as many

:05:28. > :05:29.as 91 people onboard, 83 passengers and

:05:30. > :05:31.eight crew members. They say that the plane

:05:32. > :05:34.was travelling to Syria and that search and rescue teams have now

:05:35. > :05:37.been dispatched to try to find it. Britain's senior Anglican

:05:38. > :05:39.and Catholic archbishops are addressing uncertainty

:05:40. > :05:42.in their Christmas sermons. Later this morning, Archbishop

:05:43. > :05:45.of Canterbury Justin Welby will talk about fear and division in the world

:05:46. > :05:51.as 2016 draws to a close. Last night, the leader

:05:52. > :05:53.of Britain's Catholics spoke Here's our religious affairs

:05:54. > :06:05.correspondent Martin Bashir. A traditional start to Christmas and

:06:06. > :06:12.a solemn midnight mass at Westminster Cathedral. Cardinal

:06:13. > :06:17.Vincent Nichols began his sermon by quoting the poet WB Yeats, referring

:06:18. > :06:22.to a Toby Rowland year, with many fearing that things may fall apart

:06:23. > :06:27.at the centre can't hold. -- a turbulent year. The last six months

:06:28. > :06:32.in particular has seen widespread anxiety and uncertainty at many

:06:33. > :06:37.levels, in this country and in those major partnerships and neighbours

:06:38. > :06:43.that we have. With Europe, with America, with the Middle East,

:06:44. > :06:50.financially, economically. It is an unsettling time.

:06:51. > :06:56.The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who, like last year, will

:06:57. > :07:00.deliver his Christmas message later this morning, will also address the

:07:01. > :07:05.division and uncertainty that is marked global politics. Cardinal

:07:06. > :07:11.Nichols said the answer to our insecurity was neither materialism

:07:12. > :07:17.nor the pursuit of selfish interest, but rather a renewed focus on the

:07:18. > :07:22.life of Christ. Cardinal Nichols concreted his midnight sermon by

:07:23. > :07:26.emphasising the fact of Christ's birth, which he said was marked in

:07:27. > :07:31.time, recorded in the Gospels and celebrated today.

:07:32. > :07:35.The American president-elect Donald Trump says he intends

:07:36. > :07:38.to close his charitable foundation to avoid any conflict of interest

:07:39. > :07:42.The Trump Foundation is currently being investigated

:07:43. > :07:44.by New York's attorney general, to establish whether it supported

:07:45. > :07:48.a Republican political campaign in Florida in 2013.

:07:49. > :07:57.Lynn Sweet is a journalist for the Chicago Sun Times in Washington.

:07:58. > :08:03.At the bottom line here is that Donald Trump does not give any of

:08:04. > :08:10.his own money to the foundation. He has not given any of his own money

:08:11. > :08:14.between 2009 and 2014, sell at the heart of this is a foundation that

:08:15. > :08:19.goes to other people to ask for money. Then there is another set of

:08:20. > :08:23.controversies and this is what the attorney general and New York is

:08:24. > :08:27.looking at, is whether or not there is self dealing. You're not supposed

:08:28. > :08:32.to use a non-profit foundation in the United States to make local

:08:33. > :08:34.contributions, or to help your business. That's at the heart of it.

:08:35. > :08:37.Thousands of people are being urged to leave their homes

:08:38. > :08:39.in the Philippines as a super typhoon roars towards

:08:40. > :08:42.Typhoon Nok-Ten is expected to hit today,

:08:43. > :08:47.Dozens of ports have been closed, as officials warn of potentially

:08:48. > :08:53.Tributes have been paid to Status Quo's Rick Parfitt,

:08:54. > :08:58.who's died in hospital in Spain at the age of 68.

:08:59. > :09:00.The guitarist had suffered a series of health problems,

:09:01. > :09:06.The Queen guitarist Brian May said he had "truly joyfully

:09:07. > :09:10.rocked our world", while Midge Ure said the news was "dreadfully sad".

:09:11. > :09:12.The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has cut some

:09:13. > :09:16.of his country's funding to United Nations agencies.

:09:17. > :09:20.He's responding to Friday night's UN security council

:09:21. > :09:24.resolution demanding an end to settlement activities

:09:25. > :09:28.in the occupied Palestinian territory.

:09:29. > :09:31.He said the resolution was biased and shameful.

:09:32. > :09:34.Staff in a hospital in the American city Albuquerque have been making

:09:35. > :09:38.the most of the special deliveries this Christmas.

:09:39. > :09:41.New born babies have been keeping warm inside stockings.

:09:42. > :09:47.It's become something of a tradition and volunteers say that some parents

:09:48. > :09:48.still have their stockings, even though their children

:09:49. > :09:54.Although it seems not everyone this year was equally impressed

:09:55. > :10:01.We'll get the weather with Nick in a few minutes' time.

:10:02. > :10:05.For many of us Christmas is a time to reflect on the events of the past

:10:06. > :10:09.12 months, and for Christians living in Syria that means reflecting

:10:10. > :10:14.on another year of devastating conflict and crisis.

:10:15. > :10:17.Before the war began, Christians made up around 10%

:10:18. > :10:21.It's estimated around half of them have now fled the country.

:10:22. > :10:27.Pastor Edward Awabdeh is the head of a church in Damascus.

:10:28. > :10:34.Thank you very much for joining us on BBC Breakfast this morning. Merry

:10:35. > :10:40.Christmas to you. Tell us what's happening where you are. Thank you

:10:41. > :10:44.very much, Merry Christmas to you and all of your audience. We are

:10:45. > :10:51.really celebrating Christmas this year, despite off the pain that goes

:10:52. > :10:59.on, but we thank God that we are enjoying this great event. We trust

:11:00. > :11:09.in Jesus Christ to change things and change hearts and bring the light

:11:10. > :11:14.back to country. I'm going to have to apologise to you, the connection

:11:15. > :11:18.we have to you is not very good and we are struggling to establish what

:11:19. > :11:23.you are saying very clearly. I assure you can hear me. I wish you

:11:24. > :11:28.glad tidings and safety today, for you and all of your congregation and

:11:29. > :11:34.wish you well in the church where you are in Damascus. Thank you.

:11:35. > :11:41.Christmas is a time for family, but if you don't have one it can be

:11:42. > :11:49.difficult. The poet was fostered as a baby and then he spent five years

:11:50. > :11:54.in and out of foster homes. So every Christmas he has special Christmas

:11:55. > :11:58.dinners for young people who have left the care system. We went to

:11:59. > :11:59.visit as he prepared for one of those dinners.

:12:00. > :12:07.Not everyone has someone at Christmas. You are better with

:12:08. > :12:18.words. I'd better with words. This man understands this. Also, Pollitt,

:12:19. > :12:24.broadcaster, orphan. -- author, poet. There was nobody there. I was

:12:25. > :12:28.on my own. If I visited a friend's house, I often felt I was the boy

:12:29. > :12:34.with no family who was going to visit families, you know? Jingle

:12:35. > :12:37.bells, jingle all the way. Here in Hackney he is getting ready for one

:12:38. > :12:42.of his care leaders Christmas dinners, a project that has grown

:12:43. > :12:47.from one city to five cities in four years. All of the gifts have been

:12:48. > :12:54.donated by strangers and the parties will all be run by volunteers. Do we

:12:55. > :12:58.not know the words to jingle Bells? The only reason we do the Christmas

:12:59. > :13:03.dinner is so that those young care leaders go away with a memory that

:13:04. > :13:08.they can look onto next year. That's all Christmas is, the making of a

:13:09. > :13:15.memory for you to look onto next year. So we all come around the

:13:16. > :13:19.Christmas dinner table. And we remember it was incredible. For a

:13:20. > :13:28.lot of care leavers, the memory was a bad one. We are creating memories.

:13:29. > :13:39.This is his passion and for the team that passion is infectious. Amanda

:13:40. > :13:46.is sorting everybody out. We have 20 volunteers, 60 young people on four

:13:47. > :13:50.hairstylists, artists, musicians, social workers coming down to do a

:13:51. > :14:00.really amazing Christmas Day for young people. Sabrina is the hair

:14:01. > :14:09.woman and stylist and she is pretty incredible! As a care leaver myself,

:14:10. > :14:12.I know how important it is to give self-esteem and to make people feel

:14:13. > :14:22.like we care. This incredible person is Ryan. He is going to be the chef

:14:23. > :14:26.for the evening. When I was 14 I went into temporary foster care for

:14:27. > :14:29.a weekend and it sort of turn into nearly five years. Christmas is

:14:30. > :14:35.about family and not everyone is lucky enough to have one. The best

:14:36. > :14:38.part of the day was sitting down and having a meal with everyone.

:14:39. > :14:43.Messages from previous dinners showed just how much they need to

:14:44. > :14:49.care leavers. Everyone looks happy. I would forget this day! Everything

:14:50. > :14:54.was spot on. Amazed by it, amazed by everything. I hope they have one

:14:55. > :15:16.next year as well! And that is totally the plan. Merry Christmas!

:15:17. > :15:22.Just minutes after takeoff from Sochi, a Russian plane has gone down

:15:23. > :15:42.with more than 90 people onboard. Merry Christmas to you as well. It

:15:43. > :15:46.does not feel like Christmas with the sort of temperatures we have at

:15:47. > :15:50.the moment. Well into double figures across many parts of the United

:15:51. > :16:03.Kingdom. In Edinburgh for example we begin Christmas Day at 13 degrees.

:16:04. > :16:07.The record is 15.6 degrees. We will keep on tracking that for you. We

:16:08. > :16:11.must say there is a great deal of cloud around to begin the day and

:16:12. > :16:17.that it delivers some outbreaks of rain across the north and western

:16:18. > :16:19.parts of the UK. We see this weather front developing taking rain

:16:20. > :16:23.southwards through Scotland and Northern Ireland on through the day.

:16:24. > :16:28.So, yes. 15 degrees possible across parts of and north-east Scotland

:16:29. > :16:33.that it will be a bit colder in the final later today and showers made

:16:34. > :16:37.turned wintry over the tops of the hills after a mild day. Some may

:16:38. > :16:40.still get a white Christmas. North-east England and Wales,

:16:41. > :16:46.temperature could reach towards 15 degrees. Cloud running into a large

:16:47. > :16:50.part of Wales in southern England with drizzly rain in time to time.

:16:51. > :16:52.Overnight this is the more persistent band of rain pushing

:16:53. > :16:55.southwards from Scotland and Northern Ireland across England and

:16:56. > :17:03.love into resisting bowler behind it. That leaves increasingly to snow

:17:04. > :17:08.across northern parts of Scotland on Boxing Day. Plus tree again today,

:17:09. > :17:12.as the east of the Pennines. Strong winds tomorrow for Boxing Day across

:17:13. > :17:19.north and Scotland Orkney and Shetland with the storm Konta. There

:17:20. > :17:26.is an amber warning in force and we could see some dust at 18 miles or

:17:27. > :17:29.possibly even more. Plenty of showers pushing through Scotland

:17:30. > :17:34.police hills it will be wintry but elsewhere across the UK will see a

:17:35. > :17:37.fair amount of dry sunny weather but notice that the temperatures have

:17:38. > :17:41.dropped considerably from where they are today. From double figures to

:17:42. > :17:46.single figure temperatures. I'm glad to say that once we get past Boxing

:17:47. > :17:49.Day and into Tuesday onwards we will see some quieter weather and the

:17:50. > :17:54.wind will begin to ease down as well. We will keep averages on the

:17:55. > :17:58.single figures in a letter is a good trade-off to lose the strong winds.

:17:59. > :18:01.A mild Christmas Day but hopefully we will have snow for some of the

:18:02. > :18:06.northern hills of Scotland later today to give technically that white

:18:07. > :18:10.Christmas for some of us. Technical is all we need. Absolutely. We will

:18:11. > :18:14.talk about your Christmas dinner a little later on because you have

:18:15. > :18:20.been busy this weekend but also you talked about mild weather. Would you

:18:21. > :18:24.fancy camping in this weather? I always enjoy camping. It doesn't

:18:25. > :18:28.even need to be mild. On Boxing Day as you start the day like this I

:18:29. > :18:32.know what will be chilly but plenty of sunshine and a day to be

:18:33. > :18:35.outdoors. I tell you what, someone else's going to completely agree

:18:36. > :18:37.with you. You will be interested in this.

:18:38. > :18:40.Our next guest has ditched the cosy and warm for a Christmas out

:18:41. > :18:48.Phoebe Smith, is a wild camper and has woken up on Christmas Day

:18:49. > :19:01.We can talk to her now. BV hello and Merry Christmas. You have even got

:19:02. > :19:10.on festive lights on your tent. Where are you? I am in the South

:19:11. > :19:17.Island, on top of a hill but I can attest to sudden gust of wind. How

:19:18. > :19:24.has your night being? Nice fun. Christmas Eve is often a stressful

:19:25. > :19:29.time for some getting last minute presence and suchlike but for me all

:19:30. > :19:32.I had to was pictured tent. I set up the Christmas lights and I have had

:19:33. > :19:40.a wonderful time. Will you be there all day today? Possibly not all day.

:19:41. > :19:47.I will wait until it gets light and then go for a walk and then by the

:19:48. > :19:54.time I'm ready to head indoors I will be ready for whatever food is

:19:55. > :20:11.there. What you into wild camping? Someone like me am timid and the

:20:12. > :20:14.sort of wild camping scares me. I was camping in the red Centre of

:20:15. > :20:19.Australia where literally everything could kill you. And I thought I had

:20:20. > :20:23.never done this in the UK. When I got back to the UK I was determined

:20:24. > :20:29.to be a little more adventurous and that was over ten years ago now and

:20:30. > :20:34.I have been a wild camp ever since. Coming quite an addict at sleeping

:20:35. > :20:44.at extreme points and eating by myself. It's a hobby but it is fun.

:20:45. > :20:50.How often do you do it? As often as I can. I try and do it as often as I

:20:51. > :20:54.can run my full-time job and I write books to encourage other people to

:20:55. > :20:58.fit in with their full-time job and just sort of have a little taste of

:20:59. > :21:04.adventure because the feeling I have when I got back indoors, like I

:21:05. > :21:11.said, after spending Christmas Eve outside, I will be so energetic. It

:21:12. > :21:15.is like a miracle, you can flip the switch and get the kettle on all the

:21:16. > :21:22.light on. On Christmas especially helps you realise that the best

:21:23. > :21:25.things in life cannot be bought. I am glad you had a nice night. Enjoy

:21:26. > :21:32.your walk later on. Merry Christmas. However you're celebrating today,

:21:33. > :21:35.we want to know what's going to make it a really special

:21:36. > :21:37.Christmas for you. We've been asking some people

:21:38. > :21:52.in Manchester what's going to make I just retired and this is my first

:21:53. > :22:00.Christmas enjoying everything at home. It is cold and in Australia it

:22:01. > :22:05.is hot. Yes. We came over to spend it with and friends from Australia.

:22:06. > :22:16.Our first Christmas with a new baby. It will be important to us. It will

:22:17. > :22:20.be fantastic. My granddaughter was born on the second of August this

:22:21. > :22:25.year. My son I helped to deliver her. It is the first Christmas with

:22:26. > :22:26.my first grandchild ever so it is really special and I have gone

:22:27. > :22:30.overboard. It is allowed, isn't it? So tell us why this Christmas

:22:31. > :22:34.is going to be a really special You can e-mail us at

:22:45. > :22:50.from the programme. Christmas is traditionally a time

:22:51. > :22:53.for family and relaxation So if you're worried about it

:22:54. > :22:58.all getting a bit too much, we've got a team of experts

:22:59. > :23:02.here to guide you through the day. Here with me is agony aunt

:23:03. > :23:11.Suzie Hayman and vet Cameron Muir. People will be wondering why we are

:23:12. > :23:19.talking to veterinarian this morning because many people will understand

:23:20. > :23:23.family stresses but how about pets? They can get distressed by all the

:23:24. > :23:28.noise and hubbub. Strangers in the house can upset dogs and cats a lot.

:23:29. > :23:31.People do not quite understand the psychology, particularly of cats,

:23:32. > :23:35.they are sensitive to strangers in the house. Your house is their whole

:23:36. > :23:42.universe and it can affect them quite a lot. Susie, how about the

:23:43. > :23:46.family? Recently what you are doing is you are putting a lot of people

:23:47. > :23:51.with strong opinions on strong personalities into one room and

:23:52. > :23:55.almost saying to be cheerful today. Exactly. And sometimes it is people

:23:56. > :23:58.you are not seems ages and there may be unfinished business there that

:23:59. > :24:04.had been pushed under the carpet for a bit and all of a sudden it comes

:24:05. > :24:07.as often you spend Christmas in that room, that one room altogether.

:24:08. > :24:13.There is a strong feeling sometimes of how that is how it should be. Do

:24:14. > :24:18.not let anybody go anywhere as. And that can bring conflict because

:24:19. > :24:23.people can have too much drink and food and get stressed. In some ways

:24:24. > :24:27.it is inevitable that you will spend a few days together, eat a lot,

:24:28. > :24:31.drink a fair bit maybe. Some families. So what should they be

:24:32. > :24:38.thinking about ahead of that? Or just right now. It is not too late

:24:39. > :24:45.to think about it now and it is not inevitable. You can think very much

:24:46. > :24:49.in terms of pacing. You don't have to eat and to recall that marches,

:24:50. > :24:54.as much as you think. You don't have to stay together all the time. But

:24:55. > :24:59.young people go to their own rooms, and be in contact on social media

:25:00. > :25:03.with their own friends. And you yourself every now and then. The

:25:04. > :25:07.bedroom and put your feet up. I think it is let people separating

:25:08. > :25:12.come together. This is why I am in favour none sure you are with your

:25:13. > :25:16.pets, getting up from walk no matter what the weather. We will go out on

:25:17. > :25:20.the self this. That fresh air gets you out and breaks the walls. It

:25:21. > :25:24.gets you outsider makes you feel better. And also, if you are with a

:25:25. > :25:28.group you start talking to different people in different ways because you

:25:29. > :25:32.are our walking. Cameron, people will be busy with Christmas Day so

:25:33. > :25:38.it is almost easy to say that the pets will look after themselves. If

:25:39. > :25:42.the idea of a walk or good one? It is good for both pets because they

:25:43. > :25:45.go out and get normality. They need exercise of their body and for

:25:46. > :25:48.physiology but it gives them bedtime. Taking a petrol walk is

:25:49. > :25:52.important to their happiness. They do not like being trapped inside all

:25:53. > :25:58.day. It is important that they get outside. And routines. It is

:25:59. > :26:04.important for children and as an pets to have a routine. And so on

:26:05. > :26:08.holidays, let the whole routine go because we will have fun. Actually,

:26:09. > :26:12.keeping to a routine is a more important thing. It makes me feel

:26:13. > :26:16.grounded and you know where you were and, actually, if Phil is quite safe

:26:17. > :26:20.for children to know that it is bedtime, even on Christmas Day. To

:26:21. > :26:26.treat? How much do you indulge? Susie, I am thinking that the

:26:27. > :26:30.problem was indulging his you feel guilty afterwards and what that does

:26:31. > :26:35.to your psyche. It is not good for you. And that is why we say it is

:26:36. > :26:37.not inevitable that you will eat and drink too much. Like everything,

:26:38. > :26:43.pasted throughout the day. Presents as well. I do like the idea of a big

:26:44. > :26:47.launch it with a globe in everything because again an anti-climax when it

:26:48. > :26:50.is all done. Most presents get lost. George and don't realise that

:26:51. > :26:54.they've gotten some link is the go straight onto the next thing. I'm a

:26:55. > :26:58.big fan stockings in the morning and then paste your presence through the

:26:59. > :27:01.day right up until just before bedtime when you have able, maybe,

:27:02. > :27:06.they didn't take it to bed. I think food and drink is the same. It is

:27:07. > :27:09.important. If you are awake at this time you are probably on the coffee

:27:10. > :27:13.to get his and doing all the things. Careful of the caffeine you have

:27:14. > :27:17.throughout the day otherwise you will be hyperactive and careful of

:27:18. > :27:21.the alcohol. Let us talk, Cameron, about how easy it is to indulge our

:27:22. > :27:25.pets on Christmas. Because we are indulging. Efforts were considered

:27:26. > :27:29.quite a lot of Christmas because there are many things that he should

:27:30. > :27:37.not have. They should not have mince pies. Cake. What is poisonous about

:27:38. > :27:40.an pies? Grapes and raisins. Quite poisonous to dogs. And it does not

:27:41. > :27:48.matter how much they have. Chocolate. Yes. The fatty leftovers

:27:49. > :27:53.that people are tempted to give to pets. That concerns us. It gives a

:27:54. > :27:59.lot of upset stomachs and we fully expect to see a lot of vomiting dogs

:28:00. > :28:03.on Wednesday because they have been given too many bones. No cooked

:28:04. > :28:07.bones. They splintered and is bleak intestines. You may get away with it

:28:08. > :28:13.once or twice but sooner or later you will be unlucky. You and I are

:28:14. > :28:17.the same after Christmas. I have postbag that is huge and you have

:28:18. > :28:23.the surgery that is full. Take it slowly and get through it. Thank you

:28:24. > :28:24.very, very much. We will see later in the programme still to come

:28:25. > :28:28.breakfast. If you've been missing the glitz

:28:29. > :28:30.of Strictly already, have no fear as it's back tonight

:28:31. > :28:33.for a Christmas special. Headlines are coming

:28:34. > :29:40.up in just a moment. watching breakfast on Christmas

:29:41. > :29:44.morning with me. The time is coming up to half past six. Let me bring

:29:45. > :29:47.you an update on the main news this morning. A Russian military plane

:29:48. > :29:51.has disappeared from radar just minutes after takeoff from the city

:29:52. > :29:55.of Sochi. That is according to the defence Ministry. Russian news

:29:56. > :30:03.agency says there were as many as 91 people on board, including eight

:30:04. > :30:07.crew. Reports suggest that wreckage from the plane has been found in the

:30:08. > :30:11.Black Sea. Inspiration is the theme of the Queen's Christmas broadcast

:30:12. > :30:14.this year. She will speak of drawing strength from meeting ordinary

:30:15. > :30:19.people who have done extraordinary things. The Queen is at her home in

:30:20. > :30:23.Norfolk with other members of the Royal family. The Duke and Duchess

:30:24. > :30:25.of Cambridge will spend the day with a Middleton family.

:30:38. > :30:40.The American president-elect Donald Trump says he intends

:30:41. > :30:43.to close his charitable foundation, to avoid any conflict of interest

:30:44. > :30:48.The Trump Foundation is currently being investigated

:30:49. > :30:50.by New York's attorney general, to establish whether it supported

:30:51. > :30:53.a Republican political campaign in Florida in 2013.

:30:54. > :31:01.Lynn Sweet is a journalist for the Chicago Sun Times.

:31:02. > :31:05.At the bottom line here is that Donald Trump does not give any

:31:06. > :31:14.He has not given any of his own money

:31:15. > :31:16.between 2009 and 2014, so at the heart of this

:31:17. > :31:20.is a foundation that goes to other people to ask for money.

:31:21. > :31:23.Then there is another set of controversies and this

:31:24. > :31:26.is what the attorney general in New York is looking at,

:31:27. > :31:31.is whether or not there is self dealing.

:31:32. > :31:35.You're not supposed to use a non-profit foundation

:31:36. > :31:37.in the United States to make political contributions,

:10:24. > :10:27.and when he turned 12 his foster He spent the next five years

:10:28. > :10:31.in and out of children's homes. That's why each year he organises

:10:32. > :10:35.special Christmas dinners for young Breakfast's Jayne McCubbin went

:10:36. > :10:39.to meet him as he prepared for one Not everyone has

:10:40. > :10:44.someone at Christmas. If I visited a friend's house,

:10:45. > :11:13.I often felt I was the boy with no family who was going to visit

:11:14. > :11:15.families, you know? Here in Hackney he is getting ready

:11:16. > :11:25.for one of his Care Leaver's Christmas dinners, a project that

:11:26. > :11:28.has grown from one city to five All of the gifts here have been

:11:29. > :11:33.donated by strangers and the parties Do we really not know

:11:34. > :11:37.the words to Jingle Bells? The only reason we do the Christmas

:11:38. > :11:43.dinner is so that those young care leavers go away with a memory

:11:44. > :11:47.that they can look onto next year. That's all Christmas is,

:11:48. > :11:50.it's the making of a memory So we all come around

:11:51. > :12:02.the Christmas dinner table and we all remembe, "We did this

:12:03. > :12:09.last year and it was incredible". For a lot of care leavers,

:12:10. > :12:13.the memory was a bad one This is his passion and for the team

:12:14. > :12:18.that passion is infectious. This is Amanda, who is

:12:19. > :12:20.sorting everybody out. We have 20 volunteers,

:12:21. > :12:24.60 young people on four -- four hairstylists, artists,

:12:25. > :12:31.musicians, social workers coming down to do a really

:12:32. > :12:32.amazing Christmas This is Sabrina, who is the hair

:12:33. > :12:45.woman and stylist and she is pretty As a care leaver myself,

:12:46. > :12:53.I know how important it is to give self-esteem and to feel

:12:54. > :12:56.like people care. Ryan is going to be

:12:57. > :13:04.the chef for the evening. When I was 14, I went into temporary

:13:05. > :13:08.foster care for a weekend and it Christmas is about family and not

:13:09. > :13:14.everyone is lucky enough The best part of the day

:13:15. > :13:20.was sitting down and having Messages from previous dinners show

:13:21. > :13:28.just how much they mean I hope they have one

:13:29. > :13:51.next year as well! A lovely way to spend Christmas Day.

:13:52. > :13:55.A lot of it is all about the food. I am sure many of you are thinking

:13:56. > :13:58.about putting the turkey in the oven and getting your Christmas dinner

:13:59. > :14:05.ready for your loved ones. Someone who has been very organised is Nick,

:14:06. > :14:14.our weather man. Take a look at what he has been cooking already. He has

:14:15. > :14:18.made a Christmas pie, a jule log, he has been telling us all about his

:14:19. > :14:24.great culinary exploits. That's not a good way to make anyone feel good!

:14:25. > :14:28.You are making me feel hungry again! I have to say there's not a huge

:14:29. > :14:34.amount of that left. I could have been bragging even more when I was

:14:35. > :14:39.tweeting that. I had the ice cream cake bomb as well, but that's

:14:40. > :14:44.basically gone already. I only like Christmas for the desert!

:14:45. > :14:47.Is there no end to your talents? And now you are going to spectacularly

:14:48. > :14:52.present the weather! It is very mild this year. It is. If

:14:53. > :14:56.you have made that ice cream desert, it might melt quicker than you

:14:57. > :15:00.expected it to, because it isn't feeling very festive at the moment.

:15:01. > :15:09.These are some of the latest temperatures. 13.3 I noticed in

:15:10. > :15:15.these areas. We will brace to get the highest temperature on Christmas

:15:16. > :15:18.Day on record, that's 15.6, and we might see that in north-east

:15:19. > :15:21.Scotland. We will monitor that through the day. It is all because

:15:22. > :15:25.we have this mild air between weather fronts at the moment.

:15:26. > :15:28.There's a cold front waiting to come through and later today you will

:15:29. > :15:33.notice it turning colder in Northern Ireland and Scotland. But until then

:15:34. > :15:38.it's a mild start. Plenty of cloud. It is a blustery day. That cloud is

:15:39. > :15:44.delivering Wayne the western Scotland. -- rain. The east of high

:15:45. > :15:48.ground we might have brightness. North-east England, Northey

:15:49. > :15:53.Scotland, north-east Wales. But behind the rain, this is the cold

:15:54. > :15:57.front moving south, some wet weather for you. Behind that it turns

:15:58. > :16:03.clearer and colder to end the day. It is windy. Gusty wind to the east

:16:04. > :16:11.the Pennines, up to 60 mph. But you will see sunshine. It could get

:16:12. > :16:14.close to the record in parts. Windy, patchy rain and drizzle in the

:16:15. > :16:19.south-west of England occasionally. Cloud elsewhere, in the Midlands,

:16:20. > :16:24.the south-east. Tonight the band of rain pushes south for England and

:16:25. > :16:27.Wales. Clearer air following on. Showers rattling through Scotland

:16:28. > :16:31.and Northern Ireland and they built on increasingly wintry in northern

:16:32. > :16:34.Scotland on the hills. I the end of Christmas Day you could see

:16:35. > :16:43.something wintry. Greater interest is the strengthening wind tonight

:16:44. > :16:46.and tomorrow, courtesy of Storm Connor. There is an amber warning

:16:47. > :16:52.enforced and we could get in excess of 80 mph. More showers in Scotland

:16:53. > :16:57.tomorrow, driven on by the strong wind. Elsewhere, a blustery picture,

:16:58. > :17:00.but away from Scotland a lot of dry weather. You get to see some

:17:01. > :17:05.sunshine. There will be a bite to the wind because it will be a cold

:17:06. > :17:09.day, but a fine day if you wrap up and head out for the Boxing Day

:17:10. > :17:48.warmth because some of us have to walk off a bit of cake!

:17:49. > :17:51.Now, if you're already missing the excitement this year's

:17:52. > :17:54.Strictly Come Dancing had to offer, I've got some good news for you.

:17:55. > :17:57.Later today, there'll be a Strictly Christmas special,

:17:58. > :18:00.where dancers past and present will tango, jive and cha-cha it out,

:18:01. > :18:03.to get another chance of winning that coveted Glitterball trophy.

:18:04. > :18:07.I went behind the scenes to take a look at what gives the Christmas

:18:08. > :18:08.episode that fabulous magic and sparkle.

:18:09. > :18:13.Will go to the studios that are home to strictly come dancing. This

:18:14. > :18:17.Jewish is where magic happens. It has been a number year of sparkles.

:18:18. > :18:23.And last year Ore became champion of the dance floor. It was an emotional

:18:24. > :18:26.end to the series as the grandfather of Strictly bid an emotional

:18:27. > :18:33.farewell after leading the judging panel since the programme started 12

:18:34. > :18:38.years ago. But he is back for one last time with six former contestant

:18:39. > :18:43.taking to the stage for a Christmas feast that will not disappoint. What

:18:44. > :18:48.does it take to put a festive bonanza of a show like this

:18:49. > :18:51.together? Behind-the-scenes at Strictly. All these fantastic

:18:52. > :18:55.costumes. Jinnah how much work goes into this? I could tell you but I am

:18:56. > :19:02.not the right person. This is where it all happens. Jane! How are you?

:19:03. > :19:12.The Christmas show is a Christmas themed. We have Love actually, home

:19:13. > :19:17.alone. We have Frozen. Is there more glitter or snow? A bit of both. We

:19:18. > :19:26.endeavour to make everything sparkle and Christmas like. Taking part in

:19:27. > :19:30.this year's series through me out of my comfort zone completely. It was

:19:31. > :19:35.totally different to anything I had ever done before. Hull I loved every

:19:36. > :19:39.minute of it. And coming back to the studio, well, it was like I had

:19:40. > :19:43.never been away. Bumping into familiar faces, catching up with old

:19:44. > :19:51.friends. And how wide this year's competitors finding it? You don't

:19:52. > :19:56.forget. This is Breakfast, isn't it? It is kind of like giving birth. You

:19:57. > :20:00.remember the good bits and not the scary bits. My friends and family

:20:01. > :20:06.come to me for Christmas and we always watch Strictly but my mother

:20:07. > :20:11.has been on social media and she has been away so she does not know I am

:20:12. > :20:19.doing this. What kind of dams will you do today? The Charleston. A song

:20:20. > :20:28.from the musical Elf. I am still working on my Shuffle. Oh, he has

:20:29. > :20:33.got it! My Charleston is not... I have yields on. Tell us about the

:20:34. > :20:40.outfit because your theme is Frozen. The ice Queen. You why else? And

:20:41. > :20:49.where is the handsome prince? I don't know. This man is so popular.

:20:50. > :20:58.They love him. A pink bow tie. This is what happens. It is a privilege,

:20:59. > :21:05.really. It is a privilege for me! I still had backstage privileges and

:21:06. > :21:10.managed to sneak into a change room ahead of his performance on the

:21:11. > :21:17.show. I will sing White Christmas. There is an excitement and a buzz.

:21:18. > :21:21.They go to town. It is still one of those television shows where they

:21:22. > :21:25.throw everything at it and I have been here a few times now and I am

:21:26. > :21:31.always amazed that the sets and the amount of detail that goes into the

:21:32. > :21:38.sets. In the meantime, Merry Christmas from everyone on the damp

:21:39. > :21:44.floor. Merry Christmas! Have a wonderful, brilliant Christmas Day.

:21:45. > :21:48.We hope you get all the wonderful joyful family fun and presence and

:21:49. > :21:48.Christmas cheer. Everything. All of it.

:21:49. > :21:53.You can catch the Strictly Christmas Special later today on BBC One,

:21:54. > :22:07.Many of us will be settling in for a day of presents,

:22:08. > :22:10.food and drink with family, but its thought that over 900,000

:22:11. > :22:14.Rob Harland is a zookeeper at London Zoo, where the animals

:22:15. > :22:16.don't stop needing looking after

:22:17. > :22:17.just because it's Christmas Day.

:22:18. > :22:27.You with that? I am hearing the panic here at the zoo and we are

:22:28. > :22:32.here with our pygmy goats and one of our sheep as well. Giving them some

:22:33. > :22:38.breakfast this morning. Did you getting? What time? Just before

:22:39. > :22:44.seven a.m. But I have been awake since five a.m. Because I had to

:22:45. > :22:48.drive in. It is not a bad job with such lovely creatures like that

:22:49. > :22:52.behind you is it? It is always fascinating, the work here. It is a

:22:53. > :22:59.pleasure, even coming in on Christmas Day. And today you have

:23:00. > :23:03.been, you do not live too far from the zoo and people still have to

:23:04. > :23:10.come in, the pet animals still need feeding. How many people will come

:23:11. > :23:14.in? A normal quota of keepers in. Probably about 30 of us, maybe a few

:23:15. > :23:18.more on Christmas Day. It is business as usual. We do our

:23:19. > :23:22.cleaning and feeding and then we have keepers coming in in the

:23:23. > :23:28.afternoon. The only difference is that there is no public in today. It

:23:29. > :23:47.is lovely to see you. Thank you for taking the time. Enjoy the animals

:23:48. > :23:51.and your Christmas day. Don't forget the people working in hospitals. We

:23:52. > :23:59.have had an e-mail from one woman who says her daughter is in labour

:24:00. > :24:04.at the moment. That baby is on its way. Keep us updated because it

:24:05. > :24:11.would be lovely to hear how that baby is doing. Who better to talk to

:24:12. > :24:12.now than a midwife. Dealing with women just like the daughter of

:24:13. > :24:13.Carol Smith. Justine Ladds is a midwife

:24:14. > :24:25.at West Suffolk Hospital. You have a new arrival! Tell us all

:24:26. > :24:32.about it. This is baby Cody. He was born at five a.m. . He was our

:24:33. > :24:45.second baby. The first was born one in the morning. A he weighs 811. And

:24:46. > :24:50.he is already in a Santa outfit. This is just another day in the

:24:51. > :24:58.office for you, isn't it? It is but everyone has been great. I work with

:24:59. > :25:05.a lovely team here and it has been a lovely festive atmosphere here. You

:25:06. > :25:10.mentioned another baby delivered just after midnight. To that mother

:25:11. > :25:14.wants a Christmas baby? I don't think either of them really did.

:25:15. > :25:18.They were happy when they did come, however, because it is a nice

:25:19. > :25:23.atmosphere and it is special to have a baby on Christmas Day. You have

:25:24. > :25:27.done the overnight shift and you are coming off your shift now. How are

:25:28. > :25:35.you going to be spending Christmas Day? I am going home. Spend the day

:25:36. > :25:38.with my husband and children and my parents. My husband will be

:25:39. > :25:44.preparing Christmas dinner now as we speak, I would imagine. I think you

:25:45. > :25:48.have the perfect excuse to snooze at any point you like today over

:25:49. > :25:51.Christmas dinner and be waited on hand and foot. Enjoy the family and

:25:52. > :25:55.thank you for taking the time to talk to us.

:25:56. > :25:59.Not only is it Christmas morning but it is also the first full day

:26:00. > :26:04.While both holidays are meant to be a time to see family and friends,

:26:05. > :26:07.sometimes these get-togethers can be a source of tension and stress.

:26:08. > :26:10.If you're worried about it all getting a bit too much,

:26:11. > :26:14.we've got a team of experts here to guide you through the day.

:26:15. > :26:19.Here with me are Reverend Sally Hitchiner and Rabbi Benjy Rickman.

:26:20. > :26:26.Good morning to you both. Merry Christmas. Happy about. It is

:26:27. > :26:30.unusual, quite rare, isn't it, for the first day of to fall on

:26:31. > :26:37.Christmas Day? Jewish festivals work on a lunar calendar. It is nice not

:26:38. > :26:44.having to juggle going to work and having a festival. A bonus this year

:26:45. > :26:47.to coincide. Or the holiday tie up together. How were you celebrate

:26:48. > :26:50.today? Last night was the first night of Hanukkah and we gathered

:26:51. > :26:55.together with the family. We later candle each night to the responding

:26:56. > :27:04.to the miracle of the Hanukkah story and Jewish tradition is quite

:27:05. > :27:06.creative. Food is a massive part of every festival. Despite lighting

:27:07. > :27:10.candles and synagogue services we have a lot of yummy food and ended

:27:11. > :27:16.as a festival that sell bread the miracle with oil. The oil they found

:27:17. > :27:21.could have burned for one day but it burned 48. So fried food. The most

:27:22. > :27:25.unhealthy of all of our festivals. Anything fried it reminds us of that

:27:26. > :27:30.particular part of the story. Family gatherings and celebrations. It is a

:27:31. > :27:35.time to not only focus on the gastronomic side of it to but to

:27:36. > :27:38.remember that the festival is about light and thinking about the light

:27:39. > :27:51.you can spread through the world. We like -- light a candle and place it

:27:52. > :27:55.in the window. It can be a source of tension, this time of year. Perhaps

:27:56. > :28:01.we should take moments today to pause and remember what we do have.

:28:02. > :28:05.Absolutely. Someone tweeted to me yesterday that we spend so much time

:28:06. > :28:10.preparing for Christmas but Christmas has been prepared for us.

:28:11. > :28:13.We just need to be quiet and so we can listen and hear the angels sing.

:28:14. > :28:21.Moments of spirituality where we have a minute to be calm and

:28:22. > :28:23.appreciate what we have. So often we spend our time running around and

:28:24. > :28:27.preparing everything and wrapping presents and running from pillar to

:28:28. > :28:30.post trying to make sure everyone is having the best time possible. Just

:28:31. > :28:34.take a step back from the pressure and that can make a real difference

:28:35. > :28:38.whether that be going to Churchill synagogue or doing something within

:28:39. > :28:43.the holiday that gives us a sense of perspective and a deeper meaning

:28:44. > :28:47.behind that, whatever that is. Benji mentioned what he would eat for

:28:48. > :28:53.Christmas, what is your day involved? I am going to be helping

:28:54. > :28:58.at the St Mary 's homily at 11 o'clock and many people throughout

:28:59. > :29:01.the country, actually, a going to Christmas services. Many people went

:29:02. > :29:14.last night that the midnight mass. That is more popular than ever. Many

:29:15. > :29:18.people I know love a Christmas Carol and I think it is something about

:29:19. > :29:23.the carols, summing about the candle at the Magic and the sense of

:29:24. > :29:27.perspective and maybe even the Christmas story, a new baby being

:29:28. > :29:31.born, the sense of hope that is in a Christmas story that even people who

:29:32. > :29:35.are not really buying into the whole of religion love that story and the

:29:36. > :29:41.nativity play with the little children doing Mary and Joseph and

:29:42. > :29:46.there is something I think about the Christmas story that cuts through

:29:47. > :29:49.all of the perfect family sort of John Lewis ad, those of the things

:29:50. > :29:53.that we put pressure on ourselves for this time of year. Mary and

:29:54. > :30:00.Joseph were harder. They had relation ship problems. They were in

:30:01. > :30:09.a stable. The first Christmas family had that. Your message to your

:30:10. > :30:13.community today? It is important today that the Jewish community does

:30:14. > :30:18.not get overwhelmed with Christmas. Have our own traditions and perhaps

:30:19. > :30:23.coming together this year reminds us that diversity down here speaks of

:30:24. > :30:28.unity in God. It is OK to be proud of our tradition. We do not need to

:30:29. > :30:33.copy other faith communities. We need to look inside as to what out

:30:34. > :30:39.these things in the beauty of our traditions. Be proud to be Jewish.

:30:40. > :30:43.Place candles in the window. Hanukkah candles in the home and be

:30:44. > :30:47.proud of who we are. Recognise the diversity and that makes us richer

:30:48. > :30:51.and gives us a more meaningful experience in this world. Merry

:30:52. > :30:55.Christmas and happy Hanukkah. Enjoy your day. Whatever you do today I

:30:56. > :30:58.hope you enjoy your day as well. I will be back with headlines in a few

:30:59. > :31:36.moments. Hello, this is Breakfast

:31:37. > :31:38.on Christmas morning with, Now, a summary of this

:31:39. > :31:43.morning's main news. A Russian military plane has crashed

:31:44. > :31:47.into the Black Sea just minutes Russian news agencies say

:31:48. > :31:51.there were as many as 91 people onboard, 83 passengers

:31:52. > :31:53.and eight crew members. Reports suggest that the plane

:31:54. > :31:56.was travelling to Syria and that debris has been found

:31:57. > :31:58.in the Black Sea. 'Inspiration' is to be the theme

:31:59. > :32:01.of the Queen's Christmas She will speak of drawing strength

:32:02. > :32:07.from meeting ordinary people The Queen is at her home

:32:08. > :32:11.in Sandringham in Norfolk with other members of the royal family,

:32:12. > :32:14.though not with the Duke They are spending the day

:32:15. > :32:18.with the Middleton family. Britain's senior Anglican

:32:19. > :32:19.and Catholic archbishops are addressing uncertainty

:32:20. > :32:25.in their Christmas sermons. Later this morning, Archbishop

:32:26. > :32:27.of Canterbury Justin Welby will talk about fear

:32:28. > :32:31.and division in the world as 2016 Last night, Catholic leader

:32:42. > :32:44.being investigated by New York's attorney general, to establish

:32:45. > :32:47.whether it supported a Republican political campaign

:33:03. > :33:08.as officials warn of potentially You might think that

:33:09. > :33:19.Father Christmas's preferred mode of a transport is a sleigh pulled

:33:20. > :33:22.by Dasher, Dancer and Prancer, but yesterday, in the American state

:33:23. > :33:25.of Virginia, he took some time out The man in red was

:33:26. > :33:30.accompanied by his trusty Some, though, weren't quite

:33:31. > :33:36.as successful as others, proving that four legs

:33:37. > :33:39.are perhaps better than two. The Grinch also got

:33:40. > :33:42.in on the action, on his jetski. Coming up later in the programme,

:33:43. > :33:45.we'll hear how the poet and broadcaster Lemn Sissay

:13:55. > :14:08.On a day that is, to wake up to this news, so many are in shock.

:14:09. > :14:15.Absolutely, Russia is certainly shocked. This jet belonged to the

:14:16. > :14:20.Russian Defence Ministry. We know it took off from Sochi airport in

:14:21. > :14:25.southern Russia earlier today. It was bound for Syria, the Russian

:14:26. > :14:29.army base. A few minutes after take off it disappeared from radar

:14:30. > :14:34.screens. Later the Russian defence mystery confirmed the plane had

:14:35. > :14:41.crashed into the Black Sea. A search and salvage operation was launched.

:14:42. > :14:47.A short while ago, we had fragments have been located from the plane

:14:48. > :14:53.with one body recovered. There is no talk of survivors. This is pretty

:14:54. > :14:59.much a salvage operation. Who was on board, we believe there were 92

:15:15. > :15:19.More details are coming through. You mentioned some debris has been

:15:24. > :15:28.got underway as soon as that news came through.

:15:29. > :15:34.Absolutely. The Defence Ministry said the operation was launched very

:15:35. > :15:39.quickly and taking part in this operation a number of Russian ships

:15:40. > :15:44.and helicopters. As I say, little hope of finding anyone alive. Now,

:15:45. > :15:51.the focus will be on finding as much of the debris of the plane and the

:16:48. > :16:50.You are right, anybody stepping outside this Christmas Day morning

:17:06. > :17:12.Take a look at these temperatures. 14 Celsius in the Highlands of

:17:13. > :17:19.Scotland. It really is an incredible start to Christmas Day. It is near

:17:20. > :17:25.to a record, we are watching that closely. The number to beat for the

:17:26. > :17:31.warmest Christmas Day on record is 15.6, we reached that twice before,

:17:32. > :17:39.once in Devon, and Edinburgh. We will end up very close to it but we

:17:40. > :17:46.may not break that record. It is mild but also quite windy,

:17:47. > :17:50.taking the edge of things. Plenty of cloud, outbreaks of rain across

:17:51. > :17:55.western parts. You can see this area of rainfall moving through this

:17:56. > :18:00.afternoon. Behind that, temperatures will start to come down. Northern

:18:07. > :18:11.That wet weather through Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern

:18:24. > :18:31.blustery across-the-board. Gales or severe gales in northern Scotland.

:18:32. > :18:36.Wintry showers as it turns colder. Just before midnight, on higher

:18:46. > :18:49.Northern Scotland tomorrow, you are closest to storm, the centre of

:18:50. > :18:57.which is well to the north of the UK. Stormy conditions. An amber

:18:58. > :19:00.warning from the Met Office. Tomorrow could see gusts in excess

:19:01. > :19:06.of 80 miles an hour so some disruption. Wintry showers at low

:19:07. > :19:13.levels on Boxing Day in Scotland. Elsewhere, a quieter picture. It

:19:14. > :19:17.will feel colder tomorrow. If you're thinking of a Boxing Day walk away

:19:18. > :19:26.from those storms, it is looking pretty nice. If you have any of that

:19:27. > :19:28.food to walk off. We will take a look at your menu

:19:29. > :19:31.later on, it is impressive. However you're celebrating today,

:19:32. > :19:33.we want to know what's going to make it a really special

:19:34. > :19:36.Christmas for you. We've been asking some people

:19:37. > :19:50.in Manchester what's going to make I have just retired and it is my

:19:51. > :19:58.first Christmas having my home and enjoy everything!

:20:08. > :20:13.It is her first Christmas, so it is quite important to us really,

:20:14. > :20:17.fantastic. My granddaughter was born on the 2nd

:20:18. > :20:22.of August. Me and my son helped to deliver her. Her first Christmas, my

:20:23. > :20:25.first grandchild ever, it is really special. I have gone overboard. So

:20:26. > :20:33.what? It is allowed, isn't it? So, tell us why this Christmas

:20:34. > :20:45.is going to be a really Carol says her daughter is in labour

:20:46. > :20:46.at this very moment. Carol, tell us how it is going for your

:21:43. > :21:44.Christmas is traditionally a time for family and relaxation

:21:45. > :21:49.So if you're worried about it all getting a bit too much,

:21:50. > :21:51.we've got a team of experts here to guide you through the day.

:21:52. > :21:54.Here with me is agony aunt Suzie Hayman.

:21:55. > :22:05.good morning to you all. What is the biggest nickel that will bug us

:22:06. > :22:08.today? Probably setting the bar too high

:22:09. > :22:12.and going for perfection. Thinking back to your childhood and

:22:13. > :22:18.remembering wonderful Christmases and as a parent you have to deliver

:22:19. > :22:23.that. But you edit out the arguments and you don't see the strain your

:22:24. > :22:27.parents are under to provide it. Now you are a parent all you see is

:22:28. > :22:32.pressure. That and agree of perfect meal,

:22:33. > :22:36.perfect time. There is no such thing as perfection. Go for good enough

:22:37. > :22:41.and forgive yourself. They will love it much more a you

:22:42. > :22:45.are relaxed and enjoying yourself. You don't remember the meal, you

:22:46. > :22:53.remember the atmosphere. Tents, horrible, strained...

:22:54. > :22:58.You talk about expectations you put on yourself.

:22:59. > :23:04.The psychology of Christmas, the build up, the pressure people put on

:23:05. > :23:13.themselves. Often they hide this and don't ask for help. Any tips on how

:23:14. > :23:18.to take a moment or speak up? For some people this is a time of

:23:19. > :23:21.great happiness. For others, it can be nonetheless, remembering those

:23:22. > :23:26.who have passed away. People with mental health problems,

:23:27. > :23:31.take time for yourselves. It is located turn around and say, I

:23:32. > :23:38.am not feeling great, I need time out. Sit in your room, talk to

:23:39. > :23:42.people how you are feeling. If it is overwhelming, call the Samaritans,

:23:43. > :23:46.they are open over Christmas. They are a number is available. If things

:23:47. > :23:51.are worse and your thoughts are really negative, call the NHS and

:23:52. > :23:55.they can direct you to the correct service.

:23:56. > :24:00.I know you are AGP parts are in touch other colleagues, is it a

:24:01. > :24:06.busier time of year in terms of people asking for help?

:24:07. > :24:12.It is. Only use accident and emergency if it is just that, not

:24:13. > :24:17.for minor ailments. People panicked because GP surgeries are closed for

:24:18. > :24:26.an extra two days. Use the NHS choices website. Speak to family and

:24:27. > :24:31.friends if you have a concern. Often we forget we have the community to

:24:32. > :24:38.ask questions. Taking time out, but the reason we

:24:39. > :24:44.have a vet on the server is we can't remember other members of our

:24:45. > :24:48.family, our pets. You have lots of people descending on your home or

:24:49. > :24:52.you have left to go to somebody else, what should you be thinking

:24:53. > :24:59.about? You should be concerned about the

:25:00. > :25:03.personal and of your pets, they need to have their own space, to escape

:25:04. > :25:09.from the crowd and strangers and the noise. Conversely, if you are

:25:10. > :25:14.leaving them, make sure you let them out to go to the toilet, leave the

:25:15. > :25:19.radio on, make a fuss when you come home. They are emotionally dependent

:25:20. > :25:25.on us. And get out. If you have a dog, go

:25:26. > :25:31.for a walk. They expect their routine. They need

:25:32. > :25:37.their walk. Take the family out, let them enjoy themselves. They will

:25:38. > :25:43.love it if they have more people to go out for their walk.

:25:44. > :25:49.That word routine is important. Incredibly important for humans as

:25:50. > :25:59.well. You feel safe if you have a routine. Children need it. We often

:26:00. > :26:02.think, let routines go by the board. Actually, you start feeling quite

:26:03. > :26:08.tetchy and a bit scared when routines though. Keep the bedtime

:26:09. > :26:15.routine. Try and keep to normal eating times. People feel secure if

:26:16. > :26:23.that is happening. Can we talk about food and drink, it

:26:24. > :26:30.is the time to be merry. Talking to my husband last night, I

:26:31. > :26:37.can't say don't enjoy yourself. Everything is fine in moderation.

:26:38. > :26:40.The vast majority who turn up at accident and emergency have injuries

:26:41. > :26:46.which are alcohol related. Don't drink and drive. Keep children out

:26:47. > :26:53.of the kitchen. Enjoy yourselves. Sensibility must still rain. A quick

:26:54. > :27:01.word on food and titbits? The reality is we do give titbits,

:27:02. > :27:06.give them the meat, not the gravy or the fatty leftovers, or mince pies

:27:07. > :27:16.or Christmas cake which will harm your pets.

:27:17. > :27:18.Keep it to yourself, why not! We will hear from you later on your

:27:19. > :27:33.final thoughts. You have been sending in some lovely

:27:34. > :27:40.photos. Jack and George Wheeler, 24 years ago, a pair of duties, in

:27:41. > :27:47.1992. Still a pair of cuties, recreating that special moment.

:27:48. > :27:51.And here, you can see in the space of a year, Lucas went from bump to

:27:52. > :27:59.baby. And these families are having fun

:28:00. > :28:04.with this recreation, that was then. Hey! That is a good one. If you have

:28:05. > :28:08.pictures like this, keep sending your photos in to us.

:28:09. > :28:12.We will try to show a few more later.

:28:13. > :29:22.I will be back with the headlines shortly.

:29:23. > :29:23.Hello, this is Breakfast on Christmas morning

:29:24. > :29:30.Now, a summary of this morning's main news:

:29:31. > :29:33.A Russian military plane has crashed into the Black Sea just minutes

:30:43. > :30:44.Trump says he intends to close his charitable foundation

:30:45. > :30:47.to avoid any conflict of interest The Trump Foundation

:30:48. > :30:50.is currently being investigated by New York's attorney general,

:30:51. > :30:52.to establish whether it supported a Republican political

:30:53. > :30:54.campaign in Florida in 2013. The US journalist Lynn Sweet says

:30:55. > :31:04.it's a complicated situation. At the bottom line here is that

:31:05. > :31:07.Donald Trump does not give any He has not given any

:31:08. > :31:11.of his own money between 2009 and 2014, so at the heart of this

:31:12. > :31:15.is a foundation that goes to other Then there is another

:31:16. > :31:20.set of controversies, and this is what the attorney

:31:21. > :31:28.general in New York is looking at, is whether or not

:31:29. > :31:30.there is self dealing. You're not supposed to use

:31:31. > :31:32.a non-profit foundation in the United States to make

:31:33. > :31:34.political contributions, Let's speak now to our reporter

:31:35. > :31:47.Emilia Papadopoulos who is at Sandringham

:31:48. > :31:49.for us this morning. What can we expect

:31:50. > :32:02.from the day ahead? Merry Christmas. It's a beautiful

:32:03. > :32:06.morning here on the Sandringham estate and the crowds have actually

:32:07. > :32:09.been building since six o'clock this morning, everyone hoping to catch

:32:10. > :32:15.Eclipse of the Queen and the Royal Family as they make their way up the

:32:16. > :32:21.church -- catch a glimpse. We spoke to lady who had come only from

:32:22. > :32:26.Florida and let me introduce you to this lady from Arizona. I came to

:32:27. > :32:30.visit my kids and surprised them for Christmas and this is a treat I got

:32:31. > :32:38.for coming this far, I get to see the Queen. I'm looking forward to

:32:39. > :32:42.it. What is so special to you? Why have you come all this way? Had come

:32:43. > :32:52.to visit a few years and it's just amazing. The whole history and her

:32:53. > :32:55.reign and everything. Let's move a little bit further down the crowd to

:32:56. > :33:00.a family who have come from Lincolnshire today. You looking

:33:01. > :33:09.forward to seeing Her Majesty? Very much. You got some flowers for the

:33:10. > :33:16.Queen. What colour of course do you think she will be wearing? Green

:33:17. > :33:20.because it is Christmassy. She wore red last year so she would be

:33:21. > :33:26.wearing red again. Expecting 500 people to be lining up here when the

:33:27. > :33:29.gates around ten o'clock and people will see the Royal Family as they

:33:30. > :33:37.make their way from the house even the Sandringham estate, about 300

:33:38. > :33:42.yards. They are usually led by the Duke of Edinburgh. People will hope

:33:43. > :33:45.he and the Queen and in good health after they believe is trickier.

:33:46. > :34:16.We're expecting the Royal Family in a few hours.

:34:17. > :34:21.Merry Christmas. It is lovely to have you with us and it is so

:34:22. > :34:26.interesting, seeing what you're doing and why you're doing it. I

:34:27. > :34:31.mentioned that you were put into foster care shortly after you were

:34:32. > :34:37.born. Then what happened? Then I went into children's homes, about 45

:34:38. > :34:43.children's homes over the next five years and at 17 I left the care

:34:44. > :34:48.system, I was legally an adult. What did that mean to you? Because after

:34:49. > :34:55.being in care homes, whether it was pleasant or unpleasant, you always

:34:56. > :35:04.had people around you. What do people mean to you once you let the

:35:05. > :35:09.care system? When you leave the care system, you leave everything before

:35:10. > :35:14.you, there is no relativity, no longer staff or social workers to

:35:15. > :35:26.call you on Christmas Day. It became a time of isolation. A time of

:35:27. > :35:30.aloneness and a time of watching how other families act and react on that

:35:31. > :35:34.day. People come together at Christmas and look after each other

:35:35. > :35:39.at Christmas. They were aware, leaving care, that there was nobody

:35:40. > :35:44.coming together and looking after you, nobody to argue with about the

:35:45. > :35:53.fact you don't like Brussels sprouts! You didn't have the

:35:54. > :35:56.argument, he didn't have that -- you didn't have that beautiful thing

:35:57. > :36:01.that happens at Christmas which is people coming together. Even if they

:36:02. > :36:08.argue, even if they don't get along, they are together. It's the

:36:09. > :36:15.interaction and feeling, isn't it? So you have set up this Christmas

:36:16. > :36:21.dinner. It is a Christmas dinner for care leavers between 18 and 25. This

:36:22. > :36:27.unit is in Manchester, Leeds, London, Oxford and Liverpool and we

:36:28. > :36:36.get professional chefs, we get the top food, we get incredible presents

:36:37. > :36:42.and we provide a full day of love in action for those care leavers, which

:36:43. > :36:48.is basically making sure they have an incredible time and they're not

:36:49. > :36:51.alone. It's not a charity, it's run by the community and the people of

:36:52. > :37:06.Britain. That's the most exciting thing about it for me. The key lever

:37:07. > :37:12.is being cared for by us. -- cheer lever -- care leaver. How do you get

:37:13. > :37:18.people involved? In Oxford for example, the producer of Tracy

:37:19. > :37:24.beaker has been wrapping presents and has given his office over so

:37:25. > :37:29.that all the presents can be held in Liverpool, the arts school

:37:30. > :37:34.restaurant have done all the food and donated the Cherokees. In

:37:35. > :37:38.London, we've got a brilliant stylist called Sabrina who was the

:37:39. > :37:43.stylus for Jennifer Hudson, she is holding a salon at the Christmas

:37:44. > :37:47.dinner. The idea is that the light standards for the care leaver are

:37:48. > :37:53.high so they deserve to have the absolute best today. They're all in

:37:54. > :38:02.it for them for the following reasons. It's not like the person

:38:03. > :38:08.with no family is distant and we are throwing their coins at them, this

:38:09. > :38:11.care is just as much about the volunteers as the people in care.

:38:12. > :38:17.There is an equal exchange of love between the two. We are feeling the

:38:18. > :38:24.love your! Good luck and have a great Christmas Day. Well done for

:38:25. > :38:28.making so many people's lights in little bit better today. Merry

:38:29. > :38:35.Christmas. -- people's lives. Now, if you're already missing

:38:36. > :38:37.the excitement this year's Strictly Come Dancing had to offer,

:38:38. > :38:40.I've got some good news for you. Later today, there'll be

:38:41. > :38:42.a Strictly Christmas special, where dancers past and present

:38:43. > :38:45.will tango, jive and cha-cha it out, to get another chance of winning

:38:46. > :38:47.that coveted glitter-ball trophy. I went behind the scenes to take

:38:48. > :38:50.a look at what gives the Christmas episode,

:38:51. > :38:52.that fabulous magic and sparkle. It may not look like much

:38:53. > :38:55.from the outside but behind closed Welcome to Elstree Studios,

:38:56. > :39:09.the home of Strictly Come Dancing. It's been another year

:39:10. > :39:19.of sparkles and salsas and last Ore the champion wowed

:39:20. > :39:21.the audience and judges. It was an emotional end

:39:22. > :39:25.to the series as the grandfather of Strictly Len Goodman bid

:39:26. > :39:27.an emotional farewell panel since the programme

:39:28. > :39:34.started 12 years ago. But he's back for one last time

:39:35. > :39:39.with six former contestants taking to the stage for a Christmas feast

:39:40. > :39:41.that will not disappoint. So what does it take

:39:42. > :39:44.to put a festive bonanza Behind the scenes at Strictly,

:39:45. > :39:49.all these fantastic costumes. This department is

:39:50. > :39:57.where it all happens. The Christmas show

:39:58. > :40:07.is Christmas themes. We've got Love Actually,

:40:08. > :40:13.Home Alone, Frozen. We endeavour to make everything

:40:14. > :40:22.sparkly and Christmassy. Taking part in this year's

:40:23. > :40:25.series threw me out of my It was totally different to anything

:40:26. > :40:32.I'd ever done before, but I loved every minute of it,

:40:33. > :40:36.and coming back to the studios, well, it was like I

:40:37. > :40:38.had never been away. Bumping into familiar faces,

:40:39. > :40:43.catching up with old friends. And how are this year's

:40:44. > :40:49.competitors finding it? You remember the good bits,

:40:50. > :40:52.not how scary it is to get My family are coming

:40:53. > :40:56.to me for Christmas My mum has been away

:40:57. > :41:18.and doesn't know I'm doing What should we expect from you? I'm

:41:19. > :41:27.doing the Charleston. It's very quick but it's very fun. I'm working

:41:28. > :41:33.on my swivel. He's got it! My Charleston isn't... This is better.

:41:34. > :41:52.Tell us about the outfit. Your theme is Frozen, your Elsa. It's so

:41:53. > :42:00.popular. He's magnetic. The pink bowtie, it does it all. It's a

:42:01. > :42:09.privilege for me. I'm the luckiest. I still have my backstage privileges

:42:10. > :42:25.and managed to sneak into Bros starred Matt before the show. --

:42:26. > :42:35.Bros start Matt. I've been here a few times now and I'm always amazed

:42:36. > :42:39.that the sets. -- at the sets. In the meantime, Merry Christmas from

:42:40. > :42:48.everyone on the dance floor. Have a wonderful, brilliant Christmas Day.

:42:49. > :42:55.We hope you have a joyful day with great presence and Christmas cheer.

:42:56. > :42:57.-- presents. You can catch the Strictly

:42:58. > :42:59.Christmas Special later today The big day is finally here,

:43:00. > :43:09.and we have a very special message We may have just saved

:43:10. > :43:24.the best till last. Happy Christmas to everybody

:43:25. > :43:26.watching BBC Breakfast from me, Robbie Williams. I hope you have a

:43:27. > :43:46.lovely day. Many of us will be settling

:43:47. > :43:49.in for a day of presents, But not everyone will be spending

:43:50. > :43:53.today in a traditional way, and hundreds of thousands of people

:43:54. > :43:55.will be working today. Dr Joel Lockwood is one of those,

:43:56. > :43:56.he's one of the people manning One slightly more unusual way

:43:57. > :43:59.of celebrating the big day is taking The 52nd annual charity swim

:44:00. > :44:03.will be taking place today It's organised by Gareth Owens,

:44:04. > :44:19.and he can tell me all about it now. Tell us about the history. Hello,

:44:20. > :44:26.Merry Christmas. This is 52nd swim. My father was one of the originators

:44:27. > :44:31.52 years ago. It is merely to get community spirit and get people out

:44:32. > :44:39.for a bit of fresh air before their big lunch. We decided to collect

:44:40. > :44:51.money and over the years, we've collected in

:44:52. > :44:57.excess of ?10,000. We raised ?8,000 last year and given to various

:44:58. > :45:05.charities so it is a great morning. We have over 1000 swimmers who will

:45:06. > :45:17.turn up about 11 o'clock. They are doing a few final elf and safety

:45:18. > :45:25.checks! There is a fancy dress theme as I can see. You going in like

:45:26. > :45:31.that? I've got a doctor's note, but I might have a paddle and just

:45:32. > :45:39.supervise the 1000 swimmers. Do more than welcome to come down! that such

:45:40. > :45:42.a kind invitation, I think I'm going to see no because I am a chicken

:45:43. > :45:48.when it comes to getting into the cold sea! What makes people do this

:45:49. > :45:58.on the most gluttonous day of the year? Christmas, Chanukah, Sunday,

:45:59. > :46:03.why would you jump into the cold sea? It's quite invigorating and

:46:04. > :46:18.gives you an appetite to eat turkey later in the day. How better to

:46:19. > :46:21.start the day with a nice cold swim? it sounds like lots of people are

:46:22. > :46:26.going to be taking part and will have funds we wish you a very

:46:27. > :46:35.Christmas. Merry Christmas to you, too. I'll give you a free round of

:46:36. > :46:42.golf as a present if you come down! That's my kind of Christmas present!

:46:43. > :46:48.Here's Nick with a look at this morning's weather.

:46:49. > :46:54.The team here are all excellent at their job but they're good at other

:46:55. > :47:00.things and Nick's secret talent is that he is a really impressive Cook.

:47:01. > :47:09.Look at this. This is a small sample of what she cooked up for his family

:47:10. > :47:24.for the Christmas weekend. -- what he cooked up. The pie is the

:47:25. > :47:27.Christmas cake, it is coated in an almond paste that is toasting in the

:47:28. > :47:36.oven and it has little Christmas shapes which I cut out. not only do

:47:37. > :47:42.you make me feel inadequate in the kitchen but I can't even tell the

:47:43. > :47:49.difference between a pie and a cake! It does look like a pie, it looks

:47:50. > :47:51.like pastry. It's nearly all gone already! I don't really do the main

:47:52. > :48:10.meal, I just want the dessert! Sea temperatures are around 12

:48:11. > :48:13.Celsius and the air temperature is the same on Christmas Day but we are

:48:14. > :48:22.in double figures across the board today will stop happy Christmas to

:48:23. > :48:30.our weather watchers. It is a Christmas Day record of 15.6

:48:31. > :48:40.Celsius. We've achieved that before in 1920 and 1896. Plenty of cloud

:48:41. > :48:45.across much of the UK, especially western parts where there is rain to

:48:46. > :48:49.content with. Sunshine is hard to come by and the wet weather and more

:48:50. > :48:52.persistent rain works its way through Scotland and Northern

:48:53. > :48:55.Ireland through the day. It will introduce colder air once again soon

:48:56. > :48:58.by the end of the day in Scotland that maybe Northern Ireland, it will

:48:59. > :49:08.be feeling colder and that temperature will come down. It may

:49:09. > :49:17.get a 15 Celsius or close to it. We got patchy rain through other parts

:49:18. > :49:22.of wheels and south-west England -- Wales. Through this evening tonight,

:49:23. > :49:31.we take this band of rain southwards, and we bring in this

:49:32. > :49:36.colder air. Stall showers in Scotland with a strengthening wind

:49:37. > :49:49.as the storm passes through the knot of the UK -- North. We could get

:49:50. > :49:56.gusts of 80 miles an hour. More disruption from the wind. Plenty of

:49:57. > :49:59.showers in Scotland. Elsewhere, the wind isn't as strong. Tomorrow,

:50:00. > :50:04.you're more likely to stay dry with some decent sunshine around so if

:50:05. > :50:21.you're walking off the Christmas food, it will feel colder.

:50:22. > :50:29.Lots of people have been saying to me, sorry that you're working this

:50:30. > :50:41.morning, but I love my job so I don't mind working on Christmas Day.

:50:42. > :50:52.I like to come in and help out, too. Merry Christmas.

:50:53. > :50:59.Alan has written in and said please wish you Merry Christmas to offshore

:51:00. > :51:03.workers who are away from their families. Kevin says happy Christmas

:51:04. > :51:14.to all the roadside breakdown people who work 24 hours a day in dangerous

:51:15. > :51:18.places. Alison says, you've been talking to people who are working

:51:19. > :51:21.over Christmas but you have forgotten yourselves, the camera

:51:22. > :51:26.crews, producers and presenters are all making a good show for us to

:51:27. > :51:29.watch this morning. Thank you, Alison, Merry Christmas. I'm not

:51:30. > :51:39.alone in the studio, I have a great team behind me who are all very

:51:40. > :51:50.happy and very festive. It's not only Christmas, it's the first full

:51:51. > :51:56.day of Chanukah. If you're worried about Christmas, cooking the turkey

:51:57. > :52:01.or whatever, I've got a team of experts to help us through the day.

:52:02. > :52:04.Here with me are Reverend Sally Hitchiner, Rabbi Benjy Rickman,

:52:05. > :52:05.agony aunt Suzie Hayman, vet, Cameron Muir

:52:06. > :52:44.Chanukah is tied in with Christmas this year which won't happen again

:52:45. > :52:49.for several years. Chanukah is a Jewish festival for the community

:52:50. > :52:58.and family to bring everybody together and when you haven't got

:52:59. > :53:09.the pressure of going to work and not had to juggle responsibilities

:53:10. > :53:15.with regular life. Reverend Sally, people build up to this with the

:53:16. > :53:22.food, arranging family, manic Christmas shopping. What are you

:53:23. > :53:25.thinking about today? Having a sense of spirituality, an opportunity to

:53:26. > :53:33.enjoy the moment of being surrounded by family. If you're religious, you

:53:34. > :53:43.can celebrate God being with us and you can go to a church service. Lots

:53:44. > :53:49.of churches have Carol services. Not even as a Christian, people just

:53:50. > :53:54.enjoy the magic. I think that is something more and more people are

:53:55. > :54:00.doing. Statistics are rising, almost half of Londoners go to some sort of

:54:01. > :54:05.Christmas service and is a great website run by the Church of England

:54:06. > :54:12.called Christmas Near You where you can find a local service. Going out

:54:13. > :54:19.for a walk on Christmas Day, having a break, doing a jigsaw puzzle,

:54:20. > :54:28.that's my favourite thing! We have been talking about just taking some

:54:29. > :54:32.time out. It's very important separating in the home, letting the

:54:33. > :54:40.kids do their thing. There is a pressure to be a picture postcard

:54:41. > :54:50.family. Go for a good enough, spread the load. So many mums think they're

:54:51. > :55:01.the ones that have to do it all and they become resentful and tired.

:55:02. > :55:04.Hand out jobs to everybody. Giving people responsibilities makes them

:55:05. > :55:13.feel much more part of it and it means you're not doing everything.

:55:14. > :55:16.Lets not forget the pets. They need time and attention but also space.

:55:17. > :55:21.You also need to make sure people don't give them things they

:55:22. > :55:31.shouldn't. We like giving her pet treats but be careful. Chocolate is

:55:32. > :55:41.dangerous for animals. Leftovers, mince pies, Christmas cakes, they

:55:42. > :55:51.are poisonous to dogs. And to the waistline! For dogs, my major

:55:52. > :55:57.concern are things with great sound reasons, fatty leftovers, bones and

:55:58. > :56:03.cats, watch out for tinsel, they like playing with it, they eat it

:56:04. > :56:10.and we have two extract it. I fight with my cat over the ribbons! The

:56:11. > :56:22.pets we need to be worried about are mindful about. There are two issues,

:56:23. > :56:30.not only the physical results of overindulging in food and alcohol,

:56:31. > :56:35.also being aware of mental health. It's a good time to look after each

:56:36. > :56:41.other. If you got elderly neighbours, elderly relatives, give

:56:42. > :56:54.them a ring, knock on their tour, check that the -- they are OK. Let

:56:55. > :57:01.them know they can talk to other people and things are getting bad,

:57:02. > :57:09.the Samaritans are available. If things are overwhelming, you can

:57:10. > :57:16.always fall on the NHS on 111 -- phone the NHS. Celebrate and have

:57:17. > :57:22.moments of spirituality but if you're not with family, Christmas is

:57:23. > :57:31.also for you. Make time to be festive yourself. Find the truth and

:57:32. > :57:40.inner beauty of whatever you're doing today. Companionship. Don't

:57:41. > :57:45.forget your pets. If you are cooking, you don't do the washing

:57:46. > :57:50.up, Doctor's orders! I wish you all a very Merry Sunday in general and

:57:51. > :57:56.thank you for joining us. Christmas is a time for keeping

:57:57. > :57:59.with traditions, and we've been asking for your photos

:58:00. > :58:03.from a Christmas past, John Burns and his cousin look

:58:04. > :58:09.excited to be getting And they look just as thrilled

:58:10. > :58:22.almost two decades later. And some pets have been getting

:58:23. > :58:27.in on the action too - this is Amy and Isla enjoying

:58:28. > :58:30.Christmas two years ago. And here they are two years on,

:58:31. > :58:32.and they've clearly enjoyed And decorating the tree

:58:33. > :58:42.is an annual event. Here's Jefferson John

:58:43. > :58:43.and Becky Welsby decorating And to be honest I'm not sure

:58:44. > :58:47.they've made a better That's all from

:58:48. > :58:53.Breakfast this morning. I'll be back tomorrow

:58:54. > :58:54.morning from six. From all the Breakfast team,

:58:55. > :58:57.have a very merry Christmas. It's like having

:58:58. > :59:14.the family here for Christmas. It's going to be great.

:59:15. > :59:17...the Bake Off cast.
