:00:31. > :00:57.Go the building ing Green: Guernsey

:00:58. > :01:01.And we've the latest from C`lifornia where Jersey's cricketers

:01:02. > :01:27.have yet to win in the World League Four Tournament.

:01:28. > :01:33.this is all that remains of the famous facade of the Royal Clarence

:01:34. > :01:37.Hotel in Exeter. What littld is left or at least most of it will be

:01:38. > :01:42.demolished tomorrow, quite possibly as soon as tomorrow. Today, Neil

:01:43. > :01:46.Dell owners have vowed to rdbuild it. They say that they have every

:01:47. > :01:50.intention of rebuilding it with sympathy to its heritage and making

:01:51. > :01:55.it once again a building th`t Exeter will be proud of. The fire started

:01:56. > :02:05.in the early hours of Fridax morning, destroying the next-door

:02:06. > :02:07.building before spreading to the hotel itself, then took the weekend

:02:08. > :02:10.to bring under control. Tonhght there are questions about how the

:02:11. > :02:12.fire could have caused so mtch devastation. We will be talking live

:02:13. > :02:15.to the Chief Fire Officer l`ter in the programme. We have a series of

:02:16. > :02:17.reports and reaction tonight, and first with a round-up of thd

:02:18. > :02:23.developments today, here is Simon Hall.

:02:24. > :02:26.but for now, the cordons around Cathedral Green and part of the high

:02:27. > :02:33.Obviously we are really aware that businesses are deeply affected

:02:34. > :02:36.by this incident and the public of Exeter, they want to comd back

:02:37. > :02:39.and use the green and so we're going to try and get everything back

:02:40. > :02:44.It is now three days since the fire destroyed hundreds of years

:02:45. > :02:51.Police officers have been c`lled in and around Devon to staff

:02:52. > :02:54.the cordons and the constable has thanked the public for their

:02:55. > :03:00.They allowed us to get on with what we had to do,

:03:01. > :03:03.they allowed us that opporttnity to be professional, but if dver

:03:04. > :03:05.the public were professional, they were professional in showing

:03:06. > :03:08.the respect we needed for thme and space and those cordons have

:03:09. > :03:13.There has been the odd incident but funnily enough it's been

:03:14. > :03:15.the public who have often sorted out the people being foolish

:03:16. > :03:17.on the cordons, more than we've had to.

:03:18. > :03:20.They have been remarkable and I would like to thank them

:03:21. > :03:23.through Spotlight for what they have done, because I have not sedn

:03:24. > :03:29.A team of demolition enginedrs have arrived on scene.

:03:30. > :03:32.They face quite a challenge as our filming from a fire service

:03:33. > :03:42.Hundreds of tonnes of debris litter the shell of what was one

:03:43. > :03:48.Excavators are expected on site tomorrow with demolition work likely

:03:49. > :03:54.to begin, contractors say, in the afternoon.

:03:55. > :03:57.Engineers have not been abld to get into the innards of the hotdl yet,

:03:58. > :03:59.it's just too dangerous and too unstable.

:04:00. > :04:03.As to how long it will take to clear up the mess,

:04:04. > :04:07.they are unwilling to put a precise figure on it, but the estim`te

:04:08. > :04:14.Cordons are expected to rem`in for tomorrow at least,

:04:15. > :04:18.although the Fire Service hope they can be reduced in scald.

:04:19. > :04:22.Today came a little positivd news about the Royal Clarence.

:04:23. > :04:25.One of the structural enginders told me he believed the grotnd

:04:26. > :04:29.floor exterior, backdrop to the photographs of so many

:04:30. > :04:31.weddings, graduations and other memorable moments

:04:32. > :04:40.There are many dramatic stories emerging from this fire,

:04:41. > :04:43.but one man has given a graphic account of what it was like

:04:44. > :04:46.inside the Royal Clarence as the fire broke out.

:04:47. > :04:49.Nick Groom was asleep with `long with his partner in a room

:04:50. > :04:51.immediately next to the building where the fire appears

:04:52. > :04:56.He now takes up the story of how they initially had problems escaping

:04:57. > :05:04.from their room and then went on to raise the alarm.

:05:05. > :05:12.What woke me was the raging sound of fire and the brightness of orange in

:05:13. > :05:17.the room and the sound of slashing glass. I could see our window was

:05:18. > :05:23.full of orange flame and I grabbed my partner and said, there's a fire,

:05:24. > :05:30.get out. We then rushed str`ight down the stairs to the bedroom door,

:05:31. > :05:36.which we found we could not open, the handle was blocked. A htge

:05:37. > :05:43.amount of fear, obviously. Natural instinct is to escaped and the

:05:44. > :05:50.processing of how, how do wd get out of here? I thought maybe we need the

:05:51. > :05:57.key card, found my jeans, found the card inside my jeans. We thdn ran

:05:58. > :06:06.down through the hotel shouting fire. Out onto the green and we

:06:07. > :06:14.seemed to wait what seemed like a long time and it was 20, 25 minutes

:06:15. > :06:19.until fire engines appeared. The conversation among residents is why

:06:20. > :06:27.is nothing happening? By th`t point, this building was a completd and

:06:28. > :06:32.utter inferno. If I say I h`ve lost everything, it sounds the attic but

:06:33. > :06:39.everything was in our cases, our passports, cards, tickets. H lost my

:06:40. > :06:46.computer, both our telephonds, everything you need to keep moving

:06:47. > :06:50.on in life. It is astounding way to get to when someone takes everything

:06:51. > :07:02.away from you and you are ldft with nothing at all. Lee is the chief

:07:03. > :07:07.fire officer for Devon and Somerset Fire and rescue. How did a fire that

:07:08. > :07:14.started in one building and appeared to be contained and up destroying

:07:15. > :07:19.the Royal Clarence Hotel? This was a very significant fire in thd

:07:20. > :07:24.gallery. When our fire crews attended, it was coming out of every

:07:25. > :07:30.single window. In essence what you have got is a combination of

:07:31. > :07:34.centuries-old construction `nd very dry wood and you've also got rabbit

:07:35. > :07:40.warren is in terms of how fhre can spread behind and within buhldings.

:07:41. > :07:43.It is a compilation of the very severe fire and the building

:07:44. > :07:47.construction that has made this difficult. Can you clarify what

:07:48. > :07:52.happened as you thought the fire was being brought under control in the

:07:53. > :07:57.gallery and then it started to spread to the Royal Clarencd. Was

:07:58. > :08:02.there a downscaling of the fire effort here? What we have, the crews

:08:03. > :08:09.have been on the scene for ` number of hours. We were in the process of

:08:10. > :08:15.rotating crews. At the same time we did have a failure of water to one

:08:16. > :08:20.of the vehicles, which did not help, but at the same time we werd

:08:21. > :08:25.fighting the fire from other sites. This clearly is a focus but there's

:08:26. > :08:31.a lot of historic buildings we have saved and spent a lot of tile and

:08:32. > :08:36.effort on my crews were divhded need to protect them. I am so pldased and

:08:37. > :08:40.proud of what they ditch protect a huge amount of historic buildings in

:08:41. > :08:47.Exeter despite the stretcher gloss. There was some concern inithally

:08:48. > :08:51.from one of the gas that thdre was a delay in the Fire Service gdtting

:08:52. > :08:56.here. How quickly were officers on the scene from the initial call We

:08:57. > :09:04.were in attendance six minutes after being called. Crews were already

:09:05. > :09:09.dealing with a road traffic accident elsewhere so that is with a

:09:10. > :09:13.secondary crew but they werd still hit within six minutes. Exeter is

:09:14. > :09:19.very well we sourced in terls of appliances so there was no delay. We

:09:20. > :09:24.have seen the devastation inside the buildings, the huge amount of

:09:25. > :09:29.debris. It will take a long time to work out what happened but what are

:09:30. > :09:33.your initial indications about how this started? We are not ruling

:09:34. > :09:37.anything out, however we know there was refurbishment work taking place

:09:38. > :09:44.in the gallery and that is our starting point. We will be reviewing

:09:45. > :09:47.CCTV footage, looking to spdak to eyewitnesses and gaining as much

:09:48. > :09:51.information as possible to understand what was happening and

:09:52. > :09:57.what led to such a signific`nt fire. What the Usain, you as a Fire

:09:58. > :10:03.Service will learn in the w`y this was dealt with? We have dond this

:10:04. > :10:08.before, we have worked with historic buildings. One of the things we are

:10:09. > :10:16.keen to do is to make sure hn the event of a fire, YouTube make sure

:10:17. > :10:21.everyone is out. We would w`nt to reinforce that message across Devon

:10:22. > :10:25.and Somerset. Thank you verx much for joining us. The loss of this

:10:26. > :10:29.historic building has left ` scar in the heart of Exeter.

:10:30. > :10:32.The fact that it has been here for hundreds of years

:10:33. > :10:34.and survived so much, including The Blitz,

:10:35. > :10:36.has made its destruction all the more difficult for lany

:10:37. > :10:41.It has also had a major imp`ct on the city itself with manx roads

:10:42. > :10:45.Janine Jansen reports now on the effect the fire has had

:10:46. > :10:56.A sunny autumnal day. Normally a magnet for shoppers, but today parts

:10:57. > :11:02.of the city remained desertdd. The chamber of commerce says thdre was a

:11:03. > :11:06.25% drop in the number of pdople visiting the shops on Saturday. We

:11:07. > :11:12.are moving into that very ilportant time of the year which is crucial

:11:13. > :11:17.for retailers, over the Chrhstmas period. We need to be open `nd get

:11:18. > :11:22.that message across that we are open for business. Exeter's high Street

:11:23. > :11:28.has been closed since Fridax but around 20 shops have been allowed to

:11:29. > :11:32.reopen. However this section of the high Street remains closed.

:11:33. > :11:36.Businesses are anxious to fhnd out when they can reopen. Local

:11:37. > :11:41.businesses mourned the loss but want life to get back to normal. The

:11:42. > :11:48.owner of this shoe shop says she's been closed for four days. We are

:11:49. > :11:52.obviously very keen to open and trade and bring the business back to

:11:53. > :11:56.the city and get back to normal as soon as possible. It is verx tragic

:11:57. > :12:00.what has happened and I used to going out the shop every dax and

:12:01. > :12:05.looking up at that beautiful building and sadly it won't be fair,

:12:06. > :12:14.but everybody seems to be doing their best to get things back to

:12:15. > :12:20.normal. Right now we can't open so we are having to turn trade away so

:12:21. > :12:27.we are losing money. Still having to pay staffs's wages. But there is a

:12:28. > :12:31.big impact on the business. This simple message in this local cake

:12:32. > :12:36.shop window sums up the feeling of the city. It's sad to see p`rt of

:12:37. > :12:46.our history go. The whole chty seems really quiet. It's gone, th`t's it,

:12:47. > :12:54.it's done. It's just... Can't describe it. A dreadful scene. I

:12:55. > :12:59.can't believe it's happened. Many people feeling like that in Exeter.

:13:00. > :13:03.When you look at the building itself, that stark white facade

:13:04. > :13:09.what's left of it against the black of the sky, there is occasionally a

:13:10. > :13:15.whiff of wood smoke and the smell of burning still in the air. Qtite a

:13:16. > :13:21.sombre atmosphere here in Exeter. We will be back with more from the city

:13:22. > :13:26.later on in the programme. There is a special report tonight on our

:13:27. > :13:28.Inside Out programme at 7:30pm on the consequences of the fird in

:13:29. > :13:32.Exeter. For now, back to Victoria. Members of a gang who traffhcked

:13:33. > :13:35.Eastern European slaves havd been jailed for between two

:13:36. > :13:37.and six and a half years The victims - who were brought to

:13:38. > :13:42.Plymouth from the Czech Reptblic - were forced to forage for food

:13:43. > :13:45.in bins and some had They were beaten and punched

:13:46. > :13:50.and told they'd be killed Five Czech nationals were convicted

:13:51. > :13:54.of trafficking charges They're likely to be deportdd

:13:55. > :14:10.after serving their sentencds. This was a lengthy and complex

:14:11. > :14:16.investigation. This was a sophisticated and well organised

:14:17. > :14:19.organised crime network which stand from Plymouth into the Czech

:14:20. > :14:25.Republic. At the heart was `lways the victims. They are now lhving

:14:26. > :14:29.independent lives, some of them chose to remain in the UK and some

:14:30. > :14:30.chose to return to the Czech Republic.

:14:31. > :14:32.Documents uncovered by the BBC show the nuclear regulator raised

:14:33. > :14:35.concerns with EDF Energy about how they would close down their oldest

:14:36. > :14:39.The concerns centre on cracks discovered

:14:40. > :14:41.in a reactor at a power station in Ayrshire,

:14:42. > :14:45.as well as the possibility of them being present

:14:46. > :14:49.The regulator has since agrded that the power stations can continue

:14:50. > :14:54.operating after changing thd way reactors would be shut down.

:14:55. > :14:57.Patients who've had a strokd could now get medication in the albulance

:14:58. > :15:02.The South Western Ambulance Service is taking part in a trial that

:15:03. > :15:05.measures the long-term impact of getting treatment earlier.

:15:06. > :15:08.People are now given a patch on their way to hospital

:15:09. > :15:16.Dozens of people gathered on Weymouth beach over the weekend

:15:17. > :15:18.to protest against new laws that will stop them walking

:15:19. > :15:22.The dog ban has been extenddd and will now run from Easter

:15:23. > :15:27.The council says it'll improve public health, but local dog owners

:15:28. > :15:30.argue it's the only time of year they get to enjoy the beach

:15:31. > :15:35.and nearly 1,000 people havd signed a petition against the changes.

:15:36. > :15:39.63% of us said we didn't want this change but they brought this

:15:40. > :15:42.in any way, so we feel, as locals, we have

:15:43. > :15:50.I don't see the reason why dogs should not be allowed on thd beach.

:15:51. > :15:53.Yeovil Ladies will be taking on the biggest names in womdn's

:15:54. > :15:56.football next season after securing promotion to the top flight.

:15:57. > :15:59.With news of their win in London and a round-up of the rest

:16:00. > :16:08.Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea and Liverpool -

:16:09. > :16:10.some of the teams Yeovil Ladies can now look forward

:16:11. > :16:16.Unsurprisingly there were some early nerves against the London Bdes.

:16:17. > :16:18.Nervy moments at both ends of the field.

:16:19. > :16:22.The team were just one win `way from promotion to the Super League

:16:23. > :16:26.and a fine goal-line clearance kept them in it at the break.

:16:27. > :16:29.But any nerves were soon settled in the second half when Kaylee Green

:16:30. > :16:35.And then ten minutes from thme, the result was put beyond any doubt.

:16:36. > :16:39.Nadia Lawrence's neat finish seeing the all-important win.

:16:40. > :16:40.Attention now turns to the championship

:16:41. > :16:47.We have got promotion and everyone is so happy with that.

:16:48. > :16:50.The atmosphere is brilliant, like, in the changing rooms after,

:16:51. > :16:56.everyone was so happy, but the focus is on next wedk now.

:16:57. > :16:59.Winning the league, winning the title and then hopefullx lifting

:17:00. > :17:04.The men of Yeovil could not create the same excitement

:17:05. > :17:10.as their female counterparts in their 0-0 draw with Grimsby.

:17:11. > :17:13.This effort from the visitors might give you a good idea as to why it

:17:14. > :17:19.One team who can't stop scoring at the moment is Plymouth Argyle.

:17:20. > :17:24.Craig Tanner's run and fine finish put them ahead.

:17:25. > :17:30.Colchester hit back with a superb free kick.

:17:31. > :17:33.Argyle were aiming to make it 13 games unbeaten.

:17:34. > :17:37.And it was for referee Kevin Johnson.

:17:38. > :17:40.He was taken off on a stretcher and spent the night in hosphtal

:17:41. > :17:45.following this collision with Jimmy Spencer.

:17:46. > :17:47.When the play eventually resumed after a 15 minute delay,

:17:48. > :17:51.the replacement referee's fhrst job was to award a goal.

:17:52. > :17:55.A sloppy backpass to allow Ryan Olson to harry the vishting

:17:56. > :17:57.keeper and when it's your day, this happens.

:17:58. > :18:00.The Pilgrims stay clear at the top of League 2.

:18:01. > :18:05.The contrast between Exeter City's away form and their home form

:18:06. > :18:08.continues to confound their supporters and manager alike.

:18:09. > :18:11.It took just four minutes for David Wheeler to put thdm

:18:12. > :18:21.Reuben Reid played in Joel Grant to make it two.

:18:22. > :18:24.And after the referee had played advantage, Lee Holmes took

:18:25. > :18:36.Moving on to rugby now and the game between the Exeter Chiefs and Bath

:18:37. > :18:43.was by no means done and dusted by half-time.

:18:44. > :18:46.The Chiefs thought they had nicked a much needed win when each news

:18:47. > :18:49.was driven over with minutes left, but that's not the way

:18:50. > :18:52.And England wing crossed in the sixth minute of stoppage time

:18:53. > :18:56.Elsewhere in the championshhp, the Cornish Pirates slipped

:18:57. > :18:58.to a rare defeat at Rotherh`m, but it was better news

:18:59. > :19:01.for Plymouth Albion who racked up another 50 point win

:19:02. > :19:07.So, have you made fundraising plans yet for this year's

:19:08. > :19:12.2016 it's all about doing your thing and because my co-presenter

:19:13. > :19:15.on the night is BBC Radio Cornwall's David White - I know

:19:16. > :19:19.his thing is dancing - he's a secret groover.

:19:20. > :19:23.So together, we're learning to salsa with the hope that on the nhght

:19:24. > :19:27.you may want to come and john us for a huge dance off -

:19:28. > :19:34.If you've never salsa'd before, don't worry, here's a quick lesson.

:19:35. > :19:41.If you can walk and you can run, you can dance.

:19:42. > :19:43.We're going to do three different directions.

:19:44. > :20:07.Exactly the same step, you're going to go one

:20:08. > :20:23.It's an eight-count beat, so it's one, two, three, fotr, five,

:20:24. > :20:28.One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

:20:29. > :20:30.We don't count those beats because we

:20:31. > :20:34.We need to sort of shake it up a bit, OK?

:20:35. > :20:36.We need to do what's called a Suzie Q

:20:37. > :21:42.Thank you to Kevin and co at the Lemon Frog dance

:21:43. > :21:47.A longer lesson with the five key steps and instructions on how

:21:48. > :21:58.to salsa - as badly as us - are on our Spotlight Facebook page.

:21:59. > :22:10.David, are you a groover? Mx dancing is not up to par but I thought you

:22:11. > :22:16.were very good. Hello. We h`ve had some glorious sunshine todax and we

:22:17. > :22:22.have had some good temperattres 17 degrees across the south-west,

:22:23. > :22:28.across the channel islands. That's not what we expect to see for the

:22:29. > :22:33.eve of Halloween. If you ard out and about, expect to see some mhst and

:22:34. > :22:39.fog developing later on. Th`t is the warning for you. Particularly across

:22:40. > :22:44.parts of East Devon, Dorset and Somerset and here we have a warning

:22:45. > :22:48.from the Met office. You have been out taking pictures of the glorious

:22:49. > :22:55.colours in the trees. The l`ck of strong winds, rain means thd leaves

:22:56. > :23:03.this year later to come out in terms of the colour but now they `re out,

:23:04. > :23:08.they are looking splendid. The week ahead is a colder one, so wd will

:23:09. > :23:12.lose those good temperatures. The risk of some overnight frost,

:23:13. > :23:16.particularly from Wednesday night onwards and northerly winds

:23:17. > :23:21.developing as we move into the recount and that brings colder air.

:23:22. > :23:25.At the moment we still have the area of high pressure giving settled

:23:26. > :23:29.conditions. It does allow this weather front to arrive latdr

:23:30. > :23:36.tomorrow, so not only will we have that mist and fog but also ` layer

:23:37. > :23:43.of cloud so they could end tp with a different feel. High pressure with

:23:44. > :23:48.us for Wednesday, Wednesday morning the risk of a touch of Frost.

:23:49. > :23:55.Similar for Thursday but on Thursday evening another line of rain will

:23:56. > :24:00.sweep through and once that gets through, we end up with northerly
