:00:09. > :00:10.Good evening. for the news where you are.

:00:11. > :00:13.There's a warning tonight about the use of glue traps to catch

:00:14. > :00:15.pests after two owls became stuck in them.

:00:16. > :00:18.The animals are being cared for at the West Hatch

:00:19. > :00:23.This one was unable to move its wings and wouldn't have survived.

:00:24. > :00:27.The RSPCA says glue traps cause unnecessary suffering to pests

:00:28. > :00:33.The charity is urging people not to use them.

:00:34. > :00:36.His primary wing feathers were stuck into his own flanks here.

:00:37. > :00:38.He had quite a few feathers missing on

:00:39. > :00:42.Without us intervening and actually washing the

:00:43. > :00:45.glue off, there is no way he would ever have flown again,

:00:46. > :00:49.so he would have slowly starved to death or died

:00:50. > :00:54.It's been a busy day on some of our roads,

:00:55. > :00:57.as people make the most of the Easter break, but two years

:00:58. > :01:00.through Bodmin Moor isn't quite over yet.

:01:01. > :01:03.It had been hoped work at Temple would be completed by today,

:01:04. > :01:06.but Cornwall Council says the problems won't continue

:01:07. > :01:12.It's been said that it's the only stretch of single carriageway

:01:13. > :01:17.on an A-road between Scotland and Cornwall.

:01:18. > :01:20.We have been promised that it will be open in time for the main

:01:21. > :01:22.holidays in the summer, which is, you know, good news.

:01:23. > :01:27.It just would have been great news if it was open today.

:01:28. > :01:29.About 2,000 people have turned out in one town in Devon

:01:30. > :01:32.as people across the South West have taken part in traditional

:01:33. > :01:34.Good Friday processions through the streets.

:01:35. > :01:37.Early Christians in Jerusalem would walk what they believed

:01:38. > :01:39.was Jesus' final journey carrying the cross.

:01:40. > :01:42.Many worshippers now act out their own Easter

:01:43. > :01:44.stories in towns and cities as Harriet Bradshaw

:01:45. > :01:51.A brutal story told without shying away from the drama of betrayal,

:01:52. > :01:56.We try to make it realistic enough for people to get a

:01:57. > :02:00.good sense of it, to be moved by it, but not too realistic that they are

:02:01. > :02:04.It was estimated a couple of thousand were

:02:05. > :02:09.in the crowd, with about 100 costumed actors and 70 crew.

:02:10. > :02:16.And at the heart of a tale that is centuries

:02:17. > :02:22.old, it was a young actor who took on the role of Jesus.

:02:23. > :02:25.Just like when you go on the stage in any other

:02:26. > :02:28.production, you do get that stage fright, when you see so many people

:02:29. > :02:30.before you. But it does give a sense

:02:31. > :02:32.of purpose to the way you were acting.

:02:33. > :02:34.Suddenly, you realised the meaning behind the words you were

:02:35. > :02:37.saying, so in a way, it sort of emboldened you, gave

:02:38. > :02:40.you confidence and an understanding of how everything fitted together.

:02:41. > :02:43.Thought to be the first Passion play for the town in living

:02:44. > :02:46.memory, but a tradition that could continue.

:02:47. > :02:50.Everybody was a very good actor, I thought.

:02:51. > :02:54.I liked about the play, when the guy screamed when he

:02:55. > :02:57.got pricked by the sword in his cheek.

:02:58. > :03:00.I thought it was quite powerful, and nice that

:03:01. > :03:05.I thought that the last bit was very well done, and very emotional,

:03:06. > :03:11.And the tale of Jesus' death isn't without his resurrection,

:03:12. > :03:20.touching upon the theme of hope that will be celebrated on Easter Sunday.

:03:21. > :03:26.Born in Dorset he shot to fame predicting the results of football

:03:27. > :03:31.A bit of fun at the time, but octopuses are very intelligent,

:03:32. > :03:34.and John Ayres has been discovering there's now some proper research

:03:35. > :03:38.into their thought processes at an aquarium in Torquay.

:03:39. > :03:41.The point of dropping plastic bricks into this tank is to see if Octavia

:03:42. > :03:43.can find her way through to the food.

:03:44. > :03:46.The test is repeated, and each time, she gets quicker.

:03:47. > :03:49.She may not be as famous as Paul the Octopus,

:03:50. > :03:55.What I could not really grasp about Paul,

:03:56. > :03:57.the World Cup octopus, is how he could distinguish between the

:03:58. > :04:01.technicalities of the Netherlands team and the flamboyance of the

:04:02. > :04:04.Spanish, or indeed, how he was able to watch the matches under

:04:05. > :04:10.But the difference with this is that the testing is

:04:11. > :04:15.actually real, and they believe that octopuses have intelligence similar

:04:16. > :04:20.Student Meghan Davitt is carrying out research for her veterinary

:04:21. > :04:25.She is measuring how long it takes Octavia to work

:04:26. > :04:30.Two of the puzzles that I am using for the study,

:04:31. > :04:33.a simple one is clip-lock boxes and screw-top containers,

:04:34. > :04:37.so she really has to figure out how to get into these boxes in order to

:04:38. > :04:40.get her food, and then I will present these challenges a few

:04:41. > :04:43.weeks later to see if she has learned how to do it, and the time

:04:44. > :04:46.They are inquisitive, they can work things

:04:47. > :04:48.out if we give them puzzles and things.

:04:49. > :04:51.It is just things that they have developed in the wild to

:04:52. > :04:55.Obviously, they have got that, and we need to keep that busy

:04:56. > :04:59.Her ability to do these puzzles has been

:05:00. > :05:01.entertaining the crowds this Easter holiday.

:05:02. > :05:04.Meghan will be carrying out a number of research projects for

:05:05. > :05:10.these animals to help with her degree.

:05:11. > :05:13.Plymouth Argyle must wait for promotion from League Two

:05:14. > :05:16.after drawing against Portsmouth at Fratton Park late this afternoon.

:05:17. > :05:28.it did look like today was going to be the day.

:05:29. > :05:34.Plymouth Argyle knew a win today would secure promotion, as long as

:05:35. > :05:41.other results went their way. And they started well, after this flying

:05:42. > :05:46.header from Jake Jervis puts them in front. But Plymouth moved from

:05:47. > :05:52.Portsmouth piled on the pressure. Portsmouth piled on the pressure.

:05:53. > :06:01.Eventually, a goalkeeping error allowed Portsmouth to equalise. The

:06:02. > :06:05.Green Army will have to keep the champagne on ice for now. The

:06:06. > :06:10.Pilgrims need one point from four games to guarantee their place in

:06:11. > :06:19.League 1. These are the other results today.

:06:20. > :06:22.Torquay United are now just four points from safety with two games to

:06:23. > :06:24.play. The weather may not be summer

:06:25. > :06:26.heat of last weekend, Hello, and a very

:06:27. > :06:31.good evening to you. Now, this Easter weekend is set

:06:32. > :06:34.to be a little fresher than last weekend, courtesy of this area

:06:35. > :06:37.of high pressure, which is drawing a north-westerly flow into our part

:06:38. > :06:40.of the world through the course This evening and tonight,

:06:41. > :06:43.we will continue to see the cloud building, and we do have a few

:06:44. > :06:47.outbreaks of rain in store as well. That rain will be patchy

:06:48. > :06:51.and will tend to come and go through the course of the night,

:06:52. > :06:53.overnight temperatures down to around 10

:06:54. > :06:57.degrees. First thing tomorrow morning,

:06:58. > :07:03.we will have some cloud lingering, some patchy outbreaks of

:07:04. > :07:06.rain for the morning, but gradually clearing through,

:07:07. > :07:08.the Channel Islands seeing that ease away

:07:09. > :07:09.by the Later in the afternoon,

:07:10. > :07:13.seeing some holes in that cloud, some good sunny

:07:14. > :07:15.breaks, and temperatures peaking at around 13 Celsius through the course

:07:16. > :07:19.of Saturday afternoon. Taking a look ahead

:07:20. > :07:22.to the remainder of the bank holiday weekend, and it is fine

:07:23. > :07:24.throughout, really. It looks like through

:07:25. > :07:34.the course of Sunday we will stay dry, one or two holes in that

:07:35. > :07:37.cloud yet again, so some bright An odd shower or two

:07:38. > :07:42.as possible, Monday, and it looks like we will have

:07:43. > :07:45.a frost overnight in to Tuesday I will be back with more as part

:07:46. > :08:12.of the BBC's News at 10. To think that this time last

:08:13. > :08:18.weekend, temperatures were in the 20s. They got up to 25.5. Much

:08:19. > :08:25.cooler across the country this weekend. And this headline is true

:08:26. > :08:29.for the weather next week. That cool air stream from the north will

:08:30. > :08:35.persist. The mild air tries to get in, but never really wins. What have

:08:36. > :08:39.we got for the rest of today? The rain we had across Wales earlier

:08:40. > :08:43.will move southwards, but once the rain reaches you, it will be much

:08:44. > :08:48.lighter. Across many northern areas, the skies will clear up altogether.

:08:49. > :08:49.It will be a nippy night. Certainly
