:05:52. > :05:54.Waves announced its plans to carry passengers to Jersey and Alderney
:05:55. > :05:56.before the end of the summer. But will these small businesses fill
:05:57. > :05:59.a gap in the market for passengers who want more flexibility

:06:09. > :06:10.the care offered to people with mental health issues,

:11:26. > :11:30.are calling for more support, with Devon and Cornwall having
:11:31. > :11:33.the third highest number of admissions to hospital in England.
:11:34. > :11:35.As Harriet Bradshaw reports, the campaigners want to see
:11:36. > :11:36.more preventative care made available locally.
:11:37. > :11:38.Exams fast approaching, but there's more on these students'
:11:39. > :11:43.Jennifer and Charlotte are campaigning for better services
:11:44. > :11:47.in Exeter to deal with eating disorders because they don't feel
:11:48. > :11:52.they've had enough help through their battles with anorexia.
:11:53. > :11:59.Because of the massive amount of hospital admissions in the Devon
:12:00. > :12:02.area, there wasn't any beds in Devon for me to be admitted
:12:03. > :12:06.as an inpatient with an eating disorder, so they sent me 4.5 hours
:12:07. > :12:08.away to the other side of the country to go and get
:12:09. > :12:11.treatment because that's the only bed they could find
:12:12. > :12:21.I'd like to see more available services for therapy for all kinds
:12:22. > :12:24.of eating disorders so that it doesn't have to get to the critical
:12:25. > :12:27.point of being told, you gain weight or you go to hospital.
:12:28. > :12:31.According to the latest official data, Devon and Cornwall as a region
:12:32. > :12:33.has the third highest number of hospital admissions relating
:12:34. > :12:40.And it's the North Eastern and Western Devon Clinical
:12:41. > :12:42.Commissioning Group that's had the biggest numbers
:12:43. > :12:47.in the south-west, with 121 admissions to its hospitals
:12:48. > :12:51.in 2015-16, almost double the numbers five years previous.
:12:52. > :12:58.And these students blame a lack of outpatient care.
:12:59. > :13:04.In response, the Devon CCG told us the Exeter-based inpatient unit
:13:05. > :13:06.for people with the most severe eating disorders is
:13:07. > :13:13.It also says that although it hasn't yet commissioned a dedicated
:13:14. > :13:18.eating disorders service but there is support for them
:13:19. > :13:20.within the overall community mental health service.
:13:21. > :13:24.We need people even higher up than the doctors to realise
:13:25. > :13:36.that there's a problem, to realise that the
:13:37. > :13:39.It's people's lives the messing around with
:13:40. > :13:43.NHS England is investing ?30 million nationally to enhance community
:13:44. > :13:44.eating disorder services for young people.
:13:45. > :13:52.Businesses in Bude in north Cornwall have turned to street art in a bid
:13:53. > :13:58.It started with one restaurant but, as Christine Butler has been
:13:59. > :14:08.finding out, it's been spreading to others in the town.
:14:09. > :14:20.needed. Bude is booming but can it needed. Bude is booming but can it

:15:40. > :15:43.in California image will create a new impact. -- they're bright and

:15:49. > :15:53.Good evening, on Spotlight tonight, what caused the collapse of a huge
:15:54. > :15:55.In a tiny wooded hollow in Devon, ancient woodland
:15:56. > :15:59.Volunteers on Dartmoor are bringing a derelict coppice back into use.
:16:00. > :16:02.They're using the wood to make items such as beanpoles -
:16:03. > :16:05.It's a process that takes time and patience,
:16:06. > :16:07.but as Clare Woodling found out, it could be good for
:16:08. > :16:11.High-tech doesn't come into it, but this hands-on approach
:16:12. > :16:13.is still a way to make a living in 2017.
:16:14. > :16:16.So say the coppicers here in Dartmoor.
:16:17. > :16:18.They are bringing these hazel trees back into use.
:16:19. > :16:22.My dream for this site is for it to be a fully working coppice,
:16:23. > :16:25.back to how it would have been hundreds of years ago when people
:16:26. > :16:28.used it for all the various things they wanted to make out of hazel,
:16:29. > :16:31.and the skills that they used, the traditional skills that actually
:16:32. > :16:33.are not as much appreciated as they used to be.
:16:34. > :16:39.Coppicing involves cutting a mature tree to the ground.
:16:40. > :16:41.The remaining stool grows small stems.
:16:42. > :16:46.These are harvested to make pea sticks, bean poles, fencing hurdles
:16:47. > :16:50.At the moment, many of these things are imported.
:16:51. > :16:54.Just take a pea stick or a beanpole, you go and look at an allotment
:16:55. > :16:56.site, there will be hundreds and hundreds of bamboo poles.
:16:57. > :16:58.They may have come all the way from China.
:16:59. > :17:00.Here in this woodland very soon, we will have
:17:01. > :17:04.Which are fantastic - locally made, locally produced,
:17:05. > :17:11.The coppice is divided into groups, which are cut back in rotation.
:17:12. > :17:14.This rod of hazel is exactly what the coppicers are looking for.
:17:15. > :17:16.It's long and straight and will clean easily
:17:17. > :17:21.to make spars and fencing and other things, too.
:17:22. > :17:27.So this is a quarter of a rod of hazel and we've now split it
:17:28. > :17:31.and now I just need to loosen the fibres and then give it
:17:32. > :17:33.a twist as a hairpin and now we've got a spar.
:17:34. > :17:42.It's what the thatcher drives into the roof material.
:17:43. > :17:48.The not-for-profit group behind this scheme says
:17:49. > :17:50.coppicing protects woodland, brings landowners and income
:17:51. > :17:54.People don't realise that a woodland that pays is more likely to be
:17:55. > :17:57.a woodland that stays because if a landowner has a piece
:17:58. > :17:59.of woodland they might just chop it down for firewood.
:18:00. > :18:01.Whereas if you have a really sustainable resource,
:18:02. > :18:11.like this, a coppice woodland, that can go on for every
:18:12. > :18:15.It will take the team seven or eight years to fully restore this hazel
:18:16. > :18:17.coppice and they hope it will protecting woodland
