:00:00. > :00:00.and on BBC One, we now join so it's goodbye from me

:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening. I'm Charlie McArdle.

:00:00. > :00:18.Aerial menace. Guernsey leads the way in tackling the use of drones to

:00:19. > :00:19.smuggle drugs into prison. An Uber style taxi app is coming

:00:20. > :00:22.to Jersey but drivers are divided whether it would be

:00:23. > :00:30.good for business. I think that would be brilliant. I

:00:31. > :00:34.spent some time in the UK and it was so convenient to be able to hail

:00:35. > :00:37.taxis on the streets rather than having to find a taxi rank.

:00:38. > :00:42.The Muratti Final sees Jersey and Guernsey battle to lift the cup.

:00:43. > :00:51.And after the showers today, it will be mostly dry over the weekend. If

:00:52. > :00:52.we see in the rain it will be overnight on Saturday night and

:00:53. > :00:56.slightly cooler on Sunday. A cutting-edge defence

:00:57. > :00:58.system has been installed at Guernsey Prison,

:00:59. > :01:01.in a world first. Drones are often used

:01:02. > :01:03.across the globe to illegally smuggle items to prisoners,

:01:04. > :01:07.but Guernsey Prison will now be able The Skyfence system seizes control

:01:08. > :01:13.of the drone if it comes Mike Wilkins went to see

:01:14. > :01:19.the system in action. This remarkable footage shows

:01:20. > :01:21.a drone being used to It's unclear how big

:01:22. > :01:26.a problem it is. The only drones they catch

:01:27. > :01:30.are the ones that crash. And here in Guernsey,

:01:31. > :01:33.prison chiefs are leading the way You're about to see a drone

:01:34. > :01:42.stopped mid-flight. The system hacks the frequency

:01:43. > :01:59.of the drone, halts it and You can see it has stopped. It kind

:02:00. > :02:05.of rears up. The aircraft is disconnect did and it is in return

:02:06. > :02:09.to home mode. And drones are getting smaller all the time. With this

:02:10. > :02:15.system cope with a swarm of tiny drones? When any type of drone is

:02:16. > :02:17.connected, the whole perimeter fence comes alive so no drones can cross

:02:18. > :02:18.the fans at all. It's the first prison in the world

:02:19. > :02:21.to be using a drone-detecting fence, It's part of a ?1.7 million security

:02:22. > :02:34.upgrade but some of it We brought the detector package

:02:35. > :02:39.which told us there were drones within the prison but didn't stop us

:02:40. > :02:44.coming in, and this new technology we were offered as an upgrade and

:02:45. > :02:50.didn't have to pay for that. The payback hopefully will be that other

:02:51. > :02:51.prisons will see it and both the present and the company will

:02:52. > :02:51.benefit. The anti-drone system will be

:02:52. > :02:54.activated at the end of next month. And experts tell me it

:02:55. > :02:57.could also be applied to Four men in Guernsey have been

:02:58. > :03:05.arrested in connection with the collapse of

:03:06. > :03:07.the Providence investment fund. Most of the ?37 million put

:03:08. > :03:09.into the scheme by investors The arrests were made yesterday

:03:10. > :03:15.at four separate island addresses in connection

:03:16. > :03:17.with suspected fraud offences. The men were bailed,

:03:18. > :03:21.pending further inquiries. The undersea electricity cable

:03:22. > :03:24.between Jersey and Guernsey is being switched off today

:03:25. > :03:27.so Guernsey Electricity can The work will take about

:03:28. > :03:32.two weeks to complete. During the outage, power will be

:03:33. > :03:35.provided by generators Taxi drivers in Jersey are divided

:03:36. > :03:41.over whether a new phone The Uber-style system, due to be

:03:42. > :03:47.launched in the next month, will allow you to hail a taxi

:03:48. > :03:51.without going to the ranks. But are there enough

:03:52. > :03:54.rank taxis to go round? Getting a taxi can be a challenge -

:03:55. > :03:59.especially at the weekend But a new app that lets you hail

:04:00. > :04:04.a taxi from your phone could It's for rank taxis and the app lets

:04:05. > :04:10.you use your phone to see what taxis We've got to move forward now,

:04:11. > :04:15.haven't we, regarding these apps? If they can get an app

:04:16. > :04:21.together, I guess, something quick and easy, better

:04:22. > :04:24.than ringing, yeah, definitely. I mean, I spent some time in the UK,

:04:25. > :04:29.living in Edinburgh in Scotland, and it was so convenient to be able

:04:30. > :04:32.to hail taxis just on the street rather than having

:04:33. > :04:34.to find a taxi rank. While they wouldn't appear

:04:35. > :04:37.on camera, some drivers have told us they don't think the app will work,

:04:38. > :04:39.and fear it will take taxis away from the ranks

:04:40. > :04:42.they're supposed to serve. But their concerns

:04:43. > :04:44.have been rejected. We think it's a positive move

:04:45. > :04:48.and bringing the taxis It's important for

:04:49. > :04:55.the public to know it's a hailing app as we see it

:04:56. > :04:58.and by that I mean Our priority is still obviously

:04:59. > :05:01.to service the ranks. This isn't the first time a taxi app

:05:02. > :05:04.has been introduced in Jersey. Four years ago an app for private

:05:05. > :05:08.cabs was introduced and the States thinks the time is right for this

:05:09. > :05:11.one for rank vehicles. We're waiting for the Jersey Taxi

:05:12. > :05:13.Drivers' Association to demonstrate the app to us but I understand that

:05:14. > :05:17.they're focussing on immediate hire so those are people who'd

:05:18. > :05:19.otherwise walk to the ranks, so you're actually

:05:20. > :05:22.giving the customer a choice. The States is now working with rank

:05:23. > :05:25.taxi drivers to review Guernsey and Jersey's footballers go

:05:26. > :05:34.head to head this weekend Jersey are the reigning champions,

:05:35. > :05:40.but the Greens have home advantage. Following last year's game

:05:41. > :05:43.in Jersey, where bottles were thrown, an alcohol-free zone's

:05:44. > :05:46.been put in place With a preview of the match,

:05:47. > :05:52.here's our sports editor Tim Pryor. The Muratti Vase is one

:05:53. > :05:54.of the longest-running sporting It's almost always between

:05:55. > :06:02.Jersey and Guernsey. It's almost always a fiesty,

:06:03. > :06:05.passionate match. The Reds have beaten the Greens

:06:06. > :06:17.in the last two finals. We have to make sure we turn up for

:06:18. > :06:22.the game on Saturday. The last two years we haven't competed, we

:06:23. > :06:27.haven't battled and represented the shirt with the fight that you need

:06:28. > :06:32.to win our Muratti, so the players who have played in the last two

:06:33. > :06:34.years have reminded themselves of that and it has been key to our

:06:35. > :06:34.preparation. While Guernsey are desperate

:06:35. > :06:37.to get their hands back on the Vase, Jersey are focussed on securing

:06:38. > :06:40.a third Muratti triumph in a row. With the Island Games looming,

:06:41. > :06:51.it's the chance to It's a special day for everybody,

:06:52. > :06:55.walking to work to get people shouting little things and hoping

:06:56. > :06:59.we'd do well and that's nice for a small community to want us to do

:07:00. > :07:02.well liked in other sports, so we want to make sure we bring the

:07:03. > :07:02.trophy home. The last two years have seen two

:07:03. > :07:05.very different Murattis - one an exciting contest full

:07:06. > :07:07.of goals, the other a hard-fought It's hard to predict

:07:08. > :07:11.which side will be lifting the Vase this weekend,

:07:12. > :07:13.but neutrals will be hoping for another exciting

:07:14. > :07:16.and tense afternoon - but that said, there

:07:17. > :07:18.are very few neutrals And there'll be full match

:07:19. > :07:28.commentary on BBC Radio Guernsey and Jersey tomorrow afternoon

:07:29. > :07:32.on Sportscene, which is from 1pm. From the hill climbs

:07:33. > :07:39.to the classic car rallies and the sought-after number plates,

:07:40. > :07:41.the Channel Islands has But did you know Guernsey's

:07:42. > :07:46.Lieutenant Governor is And he has a car that'll turn a few

:07:47. > :08:11.heads - a replica AC Cobra, There are such individual things,

:08:12. > :08:18.they have so much character and history so just the complete

:08:19. > :08:19.package. This is an iconic car and I just love it.

:08:20. > :08:21.It sort of combines English, British style with American muscle.

:08:22. > :08:25.It's basic engineering, brute power and just raw engineering.

:08:26. > :08:27.There's very little to go wrong with it.

:08:28. > :08:31.I just love the idea of a car that weighs less than my wife's Mini

:08:32. > :08:33.but has a 420 horsepower engine in it.

:08:34. > :08:37.The first couple of times you take it out on these narrow roads

:08:38. > :08:39.and you really do have to be quite careful with the throttle.

:08:40. > :08:43.It was a little nerve-racking but I'm kind of getting used to it

:08:44. > :08:47.now, and it's great when it's sunny in Guernsey.

:08:48. > :09:00.What is your car history like? Mine is pretty sort of middle-aged

:09:01. > :09:03.parental. It has predominantly been designed about getting their kids to

:09:04. > :09:09.and from school so a big four by four. This is my first sojourn into

:09:10. > :09:15.the world of serious sports cars and something I always wanted to own and

:09:16. > :09:17.I'd got it when I came here. Great stuff.

:09:18. > :09:21.The Jersey food and cultural festival will be opening its doors,

:09:22. > :09:26.But first, David, how is the weather looking for that and the many other

:09:27. > :09:40.I think the weather will be pretty good to us. We will see some rain

:09:41. > :09:45.during the night time, Saturday night and Sunday night, so much of

:09:46. > :09:51.the weekend is dry, some spells of sunshine and perhaps a tiny bit

:09:52. > :09:54.fresher as we move into Sunday, a cold front going through overnight

:09:55. > :09:59.Saturday night into Sunday, but at the moment a risk of showers, they

:10:00. > :10:06.will continue for the next few hours. The area of low pressure, the

:10:07. > :10:10.focus for the showers, is moving north and once that process gets

:10:11. > :10:15.under way we see a temporary ridge of high pressure but this weather

:10:16. > :10:20.front from the West arrives later in the day tomorrow, a lot of sunshine

:10:21. > :10:26.at the VAT so don't expect sunshine all day, right spells in the morning

:10:27. > :10:32.and then cloudy in the afternoon, then a reasonable day on Sunday

:10:33. > :10:36.before this low arrives on Sunday night into Monday. The showers we

:10:37. > :10:40.have now will continue overnight, they will gradually fade away and

:10:41. > :10:47.temperatures will be lower than last night. Tomorrow is a reasonable day,

:10:48. > :10:52.maybe some quite thick cloud at times capable of producing the old

:10:53. > :10:55.light shower but much of the day dry with sunny spells and then

:10:56. > :11:03.increasing amounts of medium height cloud later in the day. These are

:11:04. > :11:09.the times of high water. For surfers there is a bit of serve, cleanest

:11:10. > :11:13.along the sheltered north coast of Guernsey and coastal waters as those

:11:14. > :11:19.winds increase, south-westerly five backing southerly, increasing by the

:11:20. > :11:25.end of the day, fair with good visibility. Daytime weather along

:11:26. > :11:30.the top, night-time weather in the middle, there is some rain around on

:11:31. > :11:34.Saturday and Sunday night and getting quite warm as we move into

:11:35. > :11:40.next week but a lot of cloud on Monday and Tuesday. Good to see it.

:11:41. > :11:46.A drive through the day at the weekend. -- good to see it will stay

:11:47. > :11:47.dry. Jersey's People's Park will be full

:11:48. > :11:49.of La Dolce Vita this weekend. A festival celebrating

:11:50. > :11:51.Italian Culture will be held at the park with wine tasting,

:11:52. > :11:54.a cinema tent and cookery demonstrations from celebrity

:11:55. > :11:55.chef Gino D'Acampo. Preparations were in full swing

:11:56. > :11:58.today and BBC Radio Jersey will have coverage from the festival

:11:59. > :12:06.over the weekend. That's it for the time being. I'm

:12:07. > :12:17.back at 8pm and then at 10:30pm. checks before appointing

:12:18. > :12:19.their Head Coach last season. This comes as Basketball Australia

:12:20. > :12:23.confirmed that Johnny White was not a registered coach

:12:24. > :12:25.with the Melbourne Tigers in 2016 On his appointment last July,

:12:26. > :12:32.the club initially stated Mr White had coached at the "highest level"

:12:33. > :12:35.in his native Australia. However following questions raised

:12:36. > :12:39.by BBC Spotlight last week into the validity of his resume,

:12:40. > :12:42.the club said he'd been an assistant The Raiders argue they

:12:43. > :12:48.have a supporting letter from the Chief Executive

:12:49. > :12:51.of the Melbourne Tigers and have stuck rigidly to the criteria laid

:12:52. > :12:54.down by Basketball England in order They're making the long trip north

:12:55. > :13:04.to take on Carlisle United in the first leg of their League Two

:13:05. > :13:08.play-off semi-final. Victory over two legs

:13:09. > :13:10.will mean a final at Wembley We are proud to have got to this

:13:11. > :13:15.point when you consider what a tough season it has been,

:13:16. > :13:19.especially early on, how much effort we have put him,

:13:20. > :13:22.and I think we also realistic to know that although we have

:13:23. > :13:25.got to the play-offs But I think we really have

:13:26. > :13:42.to take it for what it is. Up-and-coming squash players

:13:43. > :13:47.in Cornwall will have the chance to rub shoulders with the sports

:13:48. > :13:51.royalty this evening. Three-time world champion

:13:52. > :13:54.Nick Matthew and Cam Pilley, who holds the record for hitting

:13:55. > :13:57.the ball the hardest, will be putting on an

:13:58. > :14:12.exhibition match for fans. Thank you. Welcome to trouble's

:14:13. > :14:18.Squash club. The crowd appeared CDs goes and they promised me they would

:14:19. > :14:21.be a bit rowdy. To let you know who is here. They are in the presence of

:14:22. > :14:27.royalty. Cam Pilley the Aussie number one and Nick Matthew is

:14:28. > :14:29.arguably the greatest squash player Britain has produced. Three-time

:14:30. > :14:34.World jumping and former world number one. We will go to a quick

:14:35. > :14:38.word now. Any chance you can take a breather? Great to see you both in

:14:39. > :14:41.Cornwall. Nick, I gather apart from this you have been doing a bit of

:14:42. > :14:46.coaching. What is the best bit of advice? I just want to share the

:14:47. > :14:50.passion we have for this great sport of hours. If anyone has never seen

:14:51. > :14:54.it before it has been voted two years of the worlds healthiest sport

:14:55. > :14:58.in terms of calories burnt and how it challenges your body and mind.

:14:59. > :15:03.The skill level, in close contact with your opponent at all times but

:15:04. > :15:06.you have to use skill and not brute force especially against this guy,

:15:07. > :15:13.harder than anyone else. You will be trying to be timbered skill in a

:15:14. > :15:21.moment. Cam Pilley, you are committed to find animals. You won't

:15:22. > :15:25.want to lose. No. It will get competitive. We have been on tour.

:15:26. > :15:30.We have had battles in the past. It is an exhibition tonight so there

:15:31. > :15:34.are no ranking points but at the same time I don't really want to

:15:35. > :15:39.lose tonight. We have mentioned you or the world record ordered the --

:15:40. > :15:44.holder for hitting the ball the fastest. We want is you what it is

:15:45. > :15:47.like 200 mph. One of the organisers but some reason wanted to know what

:15:48. > :15:56.it felt like. Let's see what happened. How was that for you? That

:15:57. > :16:06.was a stinger but luckily he still hit the impact vests so I will

:16:07. > :16:11.settle with that as 1- 02 Cameron. Rather him than me. That jacket did

:16:12. > :16:15.a job but I saw bruises afterwards. A couple of guys who manage to get a

:16:16. > :16:20.bit of coaching earlier today, Jack, what was it like to meet these

:16:21. > :16:24.players? It was inspirational because they have done what I am

:16:25. > :16:28.trying to do. It is really good. Is that the dream for you, to follow

:16:29. > :16:33.these guys and become one of the top players in the world? I think so.

:16:34. > :16:36.Louis, what about you? What is the best bit of advice? They have

:16:37. > :16:40.already said it is great for fitness, is a think you will take

:16:41. > :16:49.onto the court next time? I don't know, they have made me think about

:16:50. > :16:52.so much that I hadn't normally thought about. When I go onto the

:16:53. > :16:56.court next time I will take the tips and try to make the game better. It

:16:57. > :16:58.has been a dream come true for these great players just to come and play

:16:59. > :17:04.at our club is fantastic. You are both in the top 20 in the country we

:17:05. > :17:07.are age group. There is one thing you haven't shared with one of your

:17:08. > :17:11.clubmates here. But we have begun to meet them today but you will get to

:17:12. > :17:17.play them in court, what will that be like? I wait. Do you think you

:17:18. > :17:22.have a chance of beating him? That we will have to wait and see. Do you

:17:23. > :17:28.think they can make them sweat? I were going to win! I have played a

:17:29. > :17:32.couple of games of squash myself and when you have a couple of people of

:17:33. > :17:37.similar ability, you tend to get a good game. I have been in enough

:17:38. > :17:42.games with poor ability and it'll be good to see how these guys get on

:17:43. > :17:43.together. Good luck to the youngsters, the budding champions of

:17:44. > :17:46.the future. Really good. A team of refugees and asylum

:17:47. > :17:49.seekers in Plymouth is breaking down barriers thanks to the common

:17:50. > :17:52.language of football. Plymouth Hope is like

:17:53. > :17:55.a United Nations of football with players of more than a dozen

:17:56. > :17:57.nationalities in the line-up. As you're about to see it's

:17:58. > :18:00.a thriving part of the local We'll have the weather

:18:01. > :20:04.from David in a moment. But you may need your wellies

:20:05. > :20:07.and a brolly if you're heading out Our reporter Clare Woodling decided

:20:08. > :20:11.to take shelter from the weather to find out about one of the more

:20:12. > :20:28.unusual events taking Hello. Here I am 60 steps down, 150

:20:29. > :20:34.metres back into one of the cover here at Congolese. You might expect

:20:35. > :20:40.to find goblins, maybe nymphs or elves in a place like this, probably

:20:41. > :20:44.not a string quartet, but that is exactly who is upstairs shinning up

:20:45. > :20:48.ready to play for a crowd of 80 people will be assembling little

:20:49. > :20:53.deceiving. ... Tuning up. Playing in unusual venues is part of the course

:20:54. > :20:57.for the Modulus Quartet have already played in a slate mine in the Peak

:20:58. > :21:05.District and a barge in Bristol. Let's go and meet them. Upon the

:21:06. > :21:09.stage we have got Jonathan, Craig, nature and Michael Ritter. Jonathan,

:21:10. > :21:13.I understand you have some roots in this part of the world. What is it

:21:14. > :21:17.like coming back and playing near your family. Spent most of my

:21:18. > :21:21.childhood coming here holiday and rushing round the coast and coming

:21:22. > :21:30.back here is certainly very unexpected. Some interesting

:21:31. > :21:36.memories I expect. , Some good acoustics to mate. Luckily no

:21:37. > :21:39.stalagmites or stalactites. No, but the acoustics can be very

:21:40. > :21:44.challenging but at least we can all hear each other very well and close.

:21:45. > :21:50.Does the signed reverberate well, do you ever get many echoes? Not much

:21:51. > :21:55.reverb in this building because it is humid and quite dry and the

:21:56. > :22:00.instruments tend to get wet so that doesn't happen as much as you would

:22:01. > :22:03.get in a big marble room. So much to be looking forward to, can you give

:22:04. > :22:19.us a little taster of what is on tonight?

:22:20. > :22:25.Fabulous. Thank you very much indeed. Well, this is just one of

:22:26. > :22:28.the wonderful things going on across the south-west. Let's take a look at

:22:29. > :22:34.some of the others. It is Plymouth Pirate weekend on the Barbican

:22:35. > :22:39.Sutton Harbour and park on both Saturday and Sunday. It is open to

:22:40. > :22:44.youngsters so get along and do your best viral impression. In Dorset it

:22:45. > :22:47.is the most open water sailing Championships at the Weymouth and

:22:48. > :22:54.Portland sailing Academy. Food now and there is a free food festival in

:22:55. > :22:58.Taunton called Eat Taunton. It has lots of farmers and producers in

:22:59. > :23:03.castle green and bad place. Finally in Cornwall but is believed to be

:23:04. > :23:06.the UK's only food and drink Festival on the beach begins

:23:07. > :23:15.tomorrow. Please e-mail us your events to our e-mail address. We

:23:16. > :23:19.will be hearing a bit more from the Modulus Quartet in just a few

:23:20. > :23:22.moments. If you are coming here tonight you might want to wear a

:23:23. > :23:28.jumper because it is only 10 Celsius in here. And certainly you won't

:23:29. > :23:36.want to be wearing your stilettos, Justin and Natalie. Remember that,

:23:37. > :23:40.no stilettos! That goes for you as well, David, so you can take those.

:23:41. > :23:48.He told me you stopped wearing women's shoes. I usually only wear

:23:49. > :23:53.them at weekends! Good evening. Not a bad weekend ahead of us. Most of

:23:54. > :23:56.the rain falling during the night. Some towards the end of the

:23:57. > :24:00.afternoon tomorrow. Some overnight Sunday into Monday but I think we

:24:01. > :24:06.will get away with some sunny spells evening or overnight rain and a bit

:24:07. > :24:11.fresher come Sunday. Eight usable weekend some pleasant weather. Some

:24:12. > :24:14.showers to get rid of at the moment. Still the low pressure close by.

:24:15. > :24:19.That moves away from us and between that and this line of rain that

:24:20. > :24:22.creeping towards us steadily through the day tomorrow there should be a

:24:23. > :24:25.lot of dry weather. The breeze picks up tomorrow. The best of the

:24:26. > :24:30.sunshine across parts of Dorset and Somerset as it clothes over but the

:24:31. > :24:34.West. Most of the more persistent rain not arriving until the end of

:24:35. > :24:38.the afternoon and early evening. The same on Sunday. Between the weather

:24:39. > :24:42.systems there is more wet weather racing towards us something into

:24:43. > :24:46.Monday, but it will not arrive until overnight and then it is draped

:24:47. > :24:50.across as for the start of the working week on Monday which means a

:24:51. > :24:55.rather great day and further up bags of rain. The same weather system

:24:56. > :25:01.will be close take on choose dates that could be more rain. Good news

:25:02. > :25:05.for the farmers and growers. The showers we have seen to date have

:25:06. > :25:09.begun to ease. They are moving northwards but they are taking their

:25:10. > :25:14.time and there have been some quite heavy rainfall. A lot of dry weather

:25:15. > :25:18.for tomorrow. The other feature of the weather by the end of the

:25:19. > :25:21.afternoon tomorrow is a strengthening southerly breeze ahead

:25:22. > :25:25.of the band of cloud and rain. There will be so bright weather around but

:25:26. > :25:29.it will be quite a breezy day. Tonight we lose a lot of the wet

:25:30. > :25:33.weather. A few showers, a few shallow mist patches here and there

:25:34. > :25:37.at a temperature is just a little lower than last night down to

:25:38. > :25:42.perhaps eight or nine Celsius. Tomorrow bright and breezy. A few

:25:43. > :25:45.light showers possible. The best of any prolonged sun General B East

:25:46. > :25:50.Devon, Dorset and Somerset as this weather front comes in from the West

:25:51. > :25:54.and giving some splashes of more widespread and persistent rain but

:25:55. > :25:58.it is moving quite fast. Before it gets to us some good temperatures,

:25:59. > :26:04.with the best of the sunshine, 16 or 17. For the Isles of Scilly very

:26:05. > :26:12.briefly brightened the morning but quickly clothing order with

:26:13. > :26:16.outbreaks of rain in the afternoon. A bit more for the surfers, a bit

:26:17. > :26:24.messy interfaces with the freshening breeze along the south coast, 3- the

:26:25. > :26:34.-- three 75 feet. South-westerly in the morning. Increasing force 5-6. A

:26:35. > :26:37.bright and bright day on Sunday. Wet weather overnight and pretty much

:26:38. > :26:42.the dreary day on Monday with further up bags of rain. Similar

:26:43. > :26:43.conditions for Tuesday. Some reasonable weather for once at the

:26:44. > :26:46.weekend. Back to you. We'll leave you with more

:26:47. > :26:49.from the Modulus Quartet They are playing The Bittersweet

:26:50. > :26:59.Journey By Elliott Lloyd Short. Whatever you're doing hope

:27:00. > :27:10.you have a lovely weekend.
