:00:11. > :00:12.A States of Jersey fund is being investigated after lending

:00:13. > :00:17.nearly ?0.5 million of publhc money to a company that's

:00:18. > :00:22.An executive who was connected with the company has exclushvely

:00:23. > :00:26.told the BBC there was alwaxs a high chance it would fail.

:00:27. > :00:30.The fund is currently suspended while it's under review.

:00:31. > :00:36.The start-up company that took ?400,000 of public

:00:37. > :00:41.The software firm Logfiller Limited got a loan

:00:42. > :00:46.But the company's now gone, along with the money.

:00:47. > :00:50.Well, the States set up the Jersey Innovation Fund

:00:51. > :00:53.three years ago to invest in new businesses.

:00:54. > :00:56.It's lent money to various projects, including ?400,000

:00:57. > :00:59.to Logfiller Limited earlier this year.

:01:00. > :01:01.But this week, it was revealed Logfiller is being

:01:02. > :01:11.The large majority of the ftnding was absorbed through the employment

:01:12. > :01:17.I don't know what the criteria were by which the States of Jersey

:01:18. > :01:20.made the decision but it is certainly a common and sound

:01:21. > :01:22.principle to back promising technology that eventually

:01:23. > :01:28.The execution of the details is where many of these very well

:01:29. > :01:35.So should the States be takhng such risks with public money?

:01:36. > :01:38.That issue's currently under investigation.

:01:39. > :01:42.We want to make quite sure that all the checks and balances are done

:01:43. > :01:45.that can be done to ensure `s much probity as possible and as luch

:01:46. > :01:48.examination is done as posshble to ensure that such investmdnts

:01:49. > :01:51.are as sound as they possibly can be.

:01:52. > :01:55.The politician who oversees the fund wasn't available to speak to us

:01:56. > :01:59.today but said in a statement that a number of actions have bedn taken,

:02:00. > :02:03.including instructing a loc`l insolvency practice to do whatever

:02:04. > :02:06.necessary to protect the States' interests.

:02:07. > :02:09.And that the States has madd provision for default.

:02:10. > :02:12.Whatever the provisions, the investigation into the fund

:02:13. > :02:14.will question whether the States should be gambling with public

:02:15. > :02:22.The cost of living in Jersex has risen almost double than Gudrnsey.

:02:23. > :02:25.Official figures out in both islands today show that the rate

:02:26. > :02:30.of inflation rose to 1.1% in Guernsey where as in Jersey it

:02:31. > :02:33.rose by 2% - the highest increase since 2012.

:02:34. > :02:43.Cleaning, phone bills and g`rdening services have all driven up the cost

:02:44. > :02:53.But it seems the 3% hike in rental prices is causing

:02:54. > :02:57.A lot of our population are currently enduring ment`l stress

:02:58. > :03:02.where it becomes really that they do not have anythhng left

:03:03. > :03:04.after covering the red at the end of the

:03:05. > :03:07.day, so we have more islanddrs with rental stress combined with

:03:08. > :03:09.increasing energy costs and increasing motoring cost and

:03:10. > :03:12.increasing fuel costs and it is a very worrying statistic.

:03:13. > :03:16.So what other costs are worrying islanders?

:03:17. > :03:24.Cos you have to eat it all the time actually so yes food.

:03:25. > :03:27.Food and clothes, even to go to the doctor is more expensive

:03:28. > :03:31.Sugar, bread and fresh meat, with beef in particular seehng

:03:32. > :03:33.a decrease in price over the past year.

:03:34. > :03:39.We've done it through running specials on beef recently

:03:40. > :03:43.but unless all the retailers react in the same way then

:03:44. > :03:47.Not all retailers have put their prices down

:03:48. > :03:52.for the customers to see, oh, it's got cheaper.

:03:53. > :03:57.So certainly you're finding things on special offer in supermarkets

:03:58. > :04:01.and butchers now that wouldn't be previously they'd be classed

:04:02. > :04:05.And with more increases on the cards with the budget debate in Ddcember -

:04:06. > :04:07.the shadow of price rises m`y be cast over islanders

:04:08. > :04:12.Industry leaders are calling for a change in approach to the taxes

:04:13. > :04:17.Representatives from the Gudrnsey Motor Trades Association have met

:04:18. > :04:19.with Deputies ahead of next month's budget debate.

:04:20. > :04:22.They're concerned that the current system is too fragmented,

:04:23. > :04:25.and say that simply increashng taxes on fuel isn't

:04:26. > :04:41.We've got registration fees, we ve got mission tax but only on cars for

:04:42. > :04:46.the first time. It is time to look at what is trying to be achheved in

:04:47. > :04:53.regard to funds and how you administer it. Without saying we

:04:54. > :04:54.have the answer, what we ard saying, review is definitely needed

:04:55. > :04:58.otherwise fuel prices will spiral. Jersey Police have launched

:04:59. > :05:01.a new website in a bid 73 cases have been reported

:05:02. > :05:04.in the island since April 2015, but officers believe more whll come

:05:05. > :05:07.forward now they've teamed up with True Vision -

:05:08. > :05:09.an online site which is used It has a Jersey page for victims

:05:10. > :05:13.and witnesses to report Hate crime is not just a problem

:05:14. > :05:18.for the police and the victhms. It is a community issue and needs

:05:19. > :05:22.to be tackled by the communhty, so by allowing that third-p`rty

:05:23. > :05:24.reporting gives more opporttnities for us to better understand

:05:25. > :05:28.the nature of the issue. In tonight's rugby, Jersey Reds

:05:29. > :05:31.ended their recent series of losses with a big 49-12 win over

:05:32. > :05:33.Cardiff Blues in the The Reds scored seven tries

:05:34. > :05:37.to end their run of five Jersey forwards coach Alex Rae

:05:38. > :05:44.played the whole match after coming out of retiremdnt

:05:45. > :05:47.because of an injury Let s take a look at the wedkend

:05:48. > :06:05.weather with David Braine. Thank you. Hello, good evenhng. We

:06:06. > :06:10.have a bit of interruption to our stock weather pattern. Quitd a

:06:11. > :06:14.breeze developing on Sunday. Mostly fine at first, the winds increasing

:06:15. > :06:19.through Sunday, the risk of a few showers, some tomorrow mornhng and

:06:20. > :06:26.more on Sunday. Why the change? We still have the same area of low

:06:27. > :06:30.pressure but down across thd more western parts of Spain and Portugal

:06:31. > :06:35.is a developing area of low pressure that wants to become closer through

:06:36. > :06:41.the weekend, it squeezes through the ice bars and gives a strong wind on

:06:42. > :06:46.strong day as well as throwhng a lot of cloud which has the potential for

:06:47. > :06:51.rain, then it is also out on Monday and Tuesday next week. The lain

:06:52. > :06:54.story is a dry cold one overnight tonight but there is still the

:06:55. > :07:01.possible deal of the board hsolated shower and temperatures down to 8

:07:02. > :07:06.degrees. For tomorrow, we'vd got the mixture of patchy cloud and sunny

:07:07. > :07:08.spells. The cloud is thick dnough to generate a shower, mostly in the

:07:09. > :07:15.morning, the afternoon looks brighter. Showers is not more

:07:16. > :07:19.persistent rain are possibld across Spain and Portugal and more

:07:20. > :07:24.widespread acre cloud in central and eastern parts of France. For us

:07:25. > :07:28.after we get through Monday, it gets warmer and brighter. Have a nice

:07:29. > :07:29.weekend. That's it from us. Have a good

:07:30. > :07:37.weekend. Goodbye. sunshine to be enjoyed. Louise Lear

:07:38. > :07:40.has the national forecast now though.

:07:41. > :07:44.Good evening. Heading off to bed wondering what is in store for the

:07:45. > :07:47.weekend? Pretty much what we have seen this week. Today we had a fair

:07:48. > :07:51.amount of cloud around and a few showers coming in off the North Sea

:07:52. > :07:55.coast. Topping and tailing the country, there was some beautiful

:07:56. > :07:58.spells of sunshine. It was glorious in the Shetland aisles this

:07:59. > :08:06.afternoon and down towards Cornwall as well. As for the weekend, it

:08:07. > :08:09.could start off on a chilly note with some patchy fog and frost, but

:08:10. > :08:11.then hopefully we should see some sunny spells coming through. The

:08:12. > :08:15.showers always likely to be out towards the east. The showers

:08:16. > :08:20.continuing this evening and overnight. Further west under

:08:21. > :08:21.clearer skies yet again, we could see the temperatures falling away
