:00:12. > :00:24.Because Jersey has a strong financial presence, it will

:00:25. > :00:25.naturally be a target for those outside criminal organisations that

:00:26. > :00:28.look to extort those businesses Good evening and welcome

:00:29. > :00:31.to the late news from BBC A warning to islanders as

:00:32. > :00:37.the first Guernsey teenager Businesses in Jersey are under

:00:38. > :00:46.growing threat from cyber crime according to experts who sax

:00:47. > :00:49.the island is a target becatse Companies, and Jersey's fin`nce

:00:50. > :00:54.regulator itself, are coming under cyber attack

:00:55. > :00:56.thousands of times a day. In this data room, a tech sdcurity

:00:57. > :01:12.company is working to protect Jersey Cyber attacks are happening all day

:01:13. > :01:19.every day, and it's getting worse. 2016 has seen a massive

:01:20. > :01:22.increase in certain attacks such as things like ransomw`re,

:01:23. > :01:25.which will hold your data As Jersey has strong financhal

:01:26. > :01:38.presence, it is naturally a target for those cyber criminal

:01:39. > :01:41.organisations that would look It's not just big finance

:01:42. > :01:48.companies though. Businesses of all sizes

:01:49. > :01:51.are vulnerable to cyber att`ck Recent figures from Jersey Police

:01:52. > :01:57.show a third of fraud cases A UK report suggests

:01:58. > :02:02.each data breach costs And the Jersey Financial

:02:03. > :02:07.Services Commission, the industry's regulator,

:02:08. > :02:10.has revealed it's subject But that number isn't unusu`l -

:02:11. > :02:17.it's the reality of Both for the commission

:02:18. > :02:27.and other businesses, It will be an escalating

:02:28. > :02:35.concern going forward. We're spending a material alount

:02:36. > :02:40.of money on protection and on training staff

:02:41. > :02:43.to recognise dangerous emails. Training and technology are key

:02:44. > :02:46.and are at the heart of the States strategy on cyber crime,

:02:47. > :02:53.being released in the coming weeks. For the first time, a teenager

:02:54. > :02:56.in Guernsey has been diagnosed Experts are warning it

:02:57. > :03:00.will be the first of many It's often down to people h`ving

:03:01. > :03:05.unhealthy lifestyles. A daily task for

:03:06. > :03:14.anyone with diabetes. A condition that affects

:03:15. > :03:17.6% of the adult population. And, when it comes to Type 2

:03:18. > :03:20.Diabetes, for the first timd We don't exercise enough

:03:21. > :03:27.and we eat too much. It has been a factor in adult life

:03:28. > :03:31.for a long time, but this is The availability of cheap,

:03:32. > :03:37.fast food is clearly It is a major issue

:03:38. > :03:44.and it will get worse. Matthew was diagnosed 25 ye`rs ago

:03:45. > :03:48.and wishes he'd done more b`ck then. Back in January his diabetes meant

:03:49. > :03:51.coming to this foot clinic Ten months on and he's just

:03:52. > :03:57.lost two toes. I got an infection and withhn two

:03:58. > :04:04.to three days the toe Kids who have these factors

:04:05. > :04:17.in their life need to be aw`re of developing this diabetes,

:04:18. > :04:22.that will affect you for thd rest of your life, if you

:04:23. > :04:24.don't control it now. Of course, if you could get children

:04:25. > :04:27.doing this all day, we prob`bly And the kids at this half tdrm

:04:28. > :04:31.club think more of this Maybe at school we could trx

:04:32. > :04:36.lots of different sports, maybe more PE sessions instdad

:04:37. > :04:40.of just one or two a week. We could maybe do a run every day

:04:41. > :04:43.at school around our fields, and at home maybe go

:04:44. > :04:45.to the park every day. I guess a run around

:04:46. > :04:48.may be more appealing But, if it helps children avoid

:04:49. > :04:51.illnesses like diabetes, Jersey Police want to hear

:04:52. > :05:02.from anyone who saw pensiondr John McCarthy on the day

:05:03. > :05:04.he was stabbed to Investigators have asked people

:05:05. > :05:09.to come forward if they spoke to, or saw, the 73-year-old between 8am

:05:10. > :05:12.and when he was killed Guernsey Police are still trying

:05:13. > :05:20.to establish the identity and cause of death of the middle-aged man

:05:21. > :05:22.whose body was found The marina manager said the body

:05:23. > :05:30.looked like it hadn't The authorities are trying

:05:31. > :05:39.to work out what happened. There's optimism among priv`te boat

:05:40. > :05:41.owners in Guernsey that conditions It follows a difficult few xears,

:05:42. > :05:45.with clashes between harbour authorities and boat users over

:05:46. > :05:48.issues such as mooring fees, security and the removal

:05:49. > :05:50.of some harbour facilities. But, as Mark Inchley's been finding

:05:51. > :05:53.out, a new survey is laying the foundations for better

:05:54. > :05:55.relationships and facilities When a survey of local boat owners

:05:56. > :06:03.was announced 12 months ago, there were hopes it could m`rk

:06:04. > :06:05.a new dawn for marine It followed a drop in the ntmber

:06:06. > :06:09.of local boat owners since the 2008 financial cr`sh,

:06:10. > :06:12.something not helped by ongoing disputes over mooring fees

:06:13. > :06:14.and harbour facilities. And, in the cold light of d`y,

:06:15. > :06:17.many of these issues remain. The problem over the last three

:06:18. > :06:25.years has been turmoil We have had people in power who have

:06:26. > :06:32.no marine experience whatsodver and the people running the larinas

:06:33. > :06:35.have no marine experience. Now that has all been alterdd,

:06:36. > :06:39.so I am hoping now we are going to see the harbours back on an even

:06:40. > :06:43.keel and we can all move forward. The survey gave a sense of who boat

:06:44. > :06:46.owners are, their habits, how much they spend,

:06:47. > :06:49.and highlighted concerns about issues such as security

:06:50. > :06:51.and the removal of hosepipes. The groups behind it say

:06:52. > :07:11.there were no real surprises, but it I don't think we will go back to the

:07:12. > :07:14.crazy days of 2006 or 2007 with everybody buying boats. I think

:07:15. > :07:17.those days are gone. I think it will be a much slower type of market in

:07:18. > :07:22.the future. For Guernsey harbours it follows

:07:23. > :07:25.what has been a long industry, with harbourmaster

:07:26. > :07:28.Chad Murray admitting he's neglected It is such a wide customer base

:07:29. > :07:32.and so many differing custoler sectors, whether it is commdrcial,

:07:33. > :07:35.local, visitors, that we ard always going to come under some

:07:36. > :07:39.sort of criticism. I think we need to be conschous

:07:40. > :07:42.of that and try to strive for better customer service,

:07:43. > :07:44.and try to listen to So optimism all round,

:07:45. > :07:50.but with future developments at the harbour very much

:07:51. > :07:52.under the spotlight, it's important they have

:07:53. > :07:59.everyone on board. There will be an ice skating rink

:08:00. > :08:02.at Jersey's Fort Regent this winter, despite organisers previously

:08:03. > :08:04.saying there wouldn't. It was thought the rink couldn't

:08:05. > :08:07.compete against a new one at the Weighbridge in St Helier

:08:08. > :08:10.but the States stepped in to run it after an online petition was signed

:08:11. > :08:13.by more than 1,000 people. They've crunched the numbers

:08:14. > :08:15.and believe the Fort rink In sport, Guernsey FC lost tonight's

:08:16. > :08:25.game against Faversham FC 2,4. Manager Tony Vance had told the BBC

:08:26. > :08:28.it would probably be the Green Lions biggest test

:08:29. > :08:30.of the season so far. It's Guernsey's sixth consecutive

:08:31. > :08:49.match without a win. Now, David has the weather forecast.

:08:50. > :08:53.Hello, good evening. Not a great deal of change in our weathdr

:08:54. > :08:58.pattern over the next few d`ys. High pressure well and truly in charge,

:08:59. > :09:02.giving us problems with mist and fog, but also sunshine, particularly

:09:03. > :09:06.in the afternoon. This was darlier on today, a beautiful shot looking

:09:07. > :09:10.out to sea with those blue skies. The clear skies allowing missed to

:09:11. > :09:16.form and fog will also form later on tonight. Tune in to BBC Guernsey or

:09:17. > :09:21.BBC Jersey for details. It hs a misty start, and there will be some

:09:22. > :09:25.sunshine once that mist has gone. Low cloud may give us some drizzle

:09:26. > :09:29.in the wind, but generally puite mild. The area of high pressure does

:09:30. > :09:32.not want to move too far from us right to the rest of this wdek. It

:09:33. > :09:36.is here for the middle of the day tomorrow, across as for the middle

:09:37. > :09:40.of the day on Friday. Just loving a bit further east on Saturdax,

:09:41. > :09:45.perhaps even an allowing sole warmth to dress up from Spain and Portugal.

:09:46. > :09:49.It will remain dry and largdly fine. The cloud we saw earlier today has

:09:50. > :09:53.been coming and going, and latest night it will thicken up and it

:09:54. > :09:57.might be capable of winning some drizzle in the morning, with

:09:58. > :10:05.overnight haemorrhages dipphng to ten or 11 degrees -- temper`tures.

:10:06. > :10:08.After a great start it should brighten up and we will losd any

:10:09. > :10:13.drizzle out of the wind and it will brighten up quite nicely, ghving

:10:14. > :10:19.some decent spells of sunshhne. 16, the maximum temperature. Warm across

:10:20. > :10:27.Spain and Portugal, a lot of cloud for much of the day across France.

:10:28. > :10:31.For us, it is a little bit brighter as we head into the weekend and also

:10:32. > :10:39.feeling quite mild at 16 or 17. Have a good night. That's all the

:10:40. > :10:41.news for this Wednesday night. If you have missed anything, you can

:10:42. > :11:00.catch up on the BBC iPlayer. Goodbye.

:11:01. > :11:02.out the outlook. Temperatures are looking very promising indeed. Nick

:11:03. > :11:13.Miller has the National forecast. If you like your forecast to include

:11:14. > :11:19.cold weather, this is not for you. Temperatures have been heading up,

:11:20. > :11:20.helped by sunshine showing off the autumn colours.
