:00:31. > :00:39.if our livelihood is not thought about, we will end up with

:00:40. > :00:45.Also tonight, going for gold in Gotland, athletes get a financial

:00:46. > :00:46.boost to compete in the Island Games.

:00:47. > :00:48.Catch limits are set to be introduced for fishing

:00:49. > :00:51.boats in Guernsey - in a move which it's claimed

:00:52. > :01:02.will put at least one local fisherman out of business.

:01:03. > :01:04.It follows a long running dispute between the island

:01:05. > :01:06.and the UK government, which has resulted in a legal bill

:01:07. > :01:09.of more than a hundred and fifty thousand pounds.

:01:10. > :01:12.There's around 150 boats in Guernsey's fishing fleet.

:01:13. > :01:14.It's a tough and often dangerous profession -

:01:15. > :01:19.The States has agreed to change the terms of fishing licenses

:01:20. > :01:22.for all vessels over 10 metres in length, to bring the island

:01:23. > :01:27.into line with European fisheries management controls.

:01:28. > :01:30.It means they'll now have to comply with monthly fishing quotas

:01:31. > :01:40.A move which will put at least one local boat out of business.

:01:41. > :01:53.in a state court in Guernsey in 2009 was about 100 9000. That is what the

:01:54. > :02:02.last year, it was 180 tonnes. There is caught than 2009. I know other

:02:03. > :02:11.places have The island's government

:02:12. > :02:14.tried to fight the move - but lost a high court battle

:02:15. > :02:16.which cost more than ?150,000. Now the States say they've tried

:02:17. > :02:19.to strike the best deal they can for the Guernsey fleet,

:02:20. > :02:23.given the circumstances. promises were made to Guernsey

:02:24. > :02:26.should we're not here now we have should we're not here now we have

:02:27. > :02:32.lost the case, guess we have lost it but there were good positives that

:02:33. > :02:39.came out in relation to the discussions and but to be honest, we

:02:40. > :02:43.had to deal with the situation on they have the judgment of a High

:02:44. > :02:46.Court judge. We considered appealing it. But we decided there was no

:02:47. > :02:52.merit. We have had to do The larger boats in the fleet

:02:53. > :02:55.are the first to be affected - And there's concerns further

:02:56. > :03:13.sanctions could have these limits, and livelihoods it

:03:14. > :03:21.will I understand that is between four million and fish move in and

:03:22. > :03:26.out so what we cannot Discussions over

:03:27. > :03:27.further restrictions for smaller boats

:03:28. > :03:29.will begin in the New Year. Roisin Gauson, BBC Channel

:03:30. > :03:37.Islands News, Guernsey. Meanwhile, questions on fishing

:03:38. > :03:39.quotas was put to Guernsey's Head of Policy and Resources

:03:40. > :03:41.and Jersey's Chief Minister Deputy Gavin St Pier

:03:42. > :03:47.and Senator Ian Gorst spoke to the House of Lords on how

:03:48. > :03:50.the UK's decision to leave the European Union will impact

:03:51. > :03:52.the Crown Dependencies. The risks and opportunities facing

:03:53. > :03:54.the Channel Islands existing relationship with the EU

:03:55. > :03:56.is being assessed by Jersey athletes hoping to go

:03:57. > :04:01.to Gotland for the Island Games next The States has announced it

:04:02. > :04:10.will contribute over It's comes after some athletes

:04:11. > :04:13.dropped out claiming Gotland has a lot to live up too

:04:14. > :04:26.after Jersey's success The host island topped

:04:27. > :04:29.the medals table achieving one But with a host of better known

:04:30. > :04:33.athletes pulling out, Fortunately we've received some

:04:34. > :04:42.extra funding from events at Fort Regent this year and that

:04:43. > :04:45.cobbled with a little bit of underspend we've been able to pay

:04:46. > :04:48.for the deposits on the flights, which came to just over ?32,000,

:04:49. > :04:51.which we're really pleased to do and is going to make a difference

:04:52. > :04:55.in regards to the costs for athletes And those are costs that

:04:56. > :05:01.Jersey's Island Games Association tries to help with by fundraising,

:05:02. > :05:05.but it's not always enough. What a fantastic Christmas present

:05:06. > :05:11.for all of Team Jersey. It would help us a great

:05:12. > :05:14.deal in our fundraising to go away to Gotland,

:05:15. > :05:17.which everyone knows is an expensive It was a complete surprise to me

:05:18. > :05:22.yesterday when I got This was Lucy - one of Jersey's

:05:23. > :05:27.brightest medal prospects - practising for last year's

:05:28. > :05:31.Island Games at which she won gold. The Great Britain archer's competed

:05:32. > :05:34.at World, European and Commonwealth level but she wasn't planning

:05:35. > :05:37.on going to Gotland. The costs were going up and up

:05:38. > :05:40.and up, and I just thought it's Obviously, the funding

:05:41. > :05:48.from the States is absolutely Unfortunately, it's too late

:05:49. > :05:54.for me because I didn't submit my scores because I thought

:05:55. > :05:58.it was too much money. Obviously, I can't do anything

:05:59. > :06:02.about it now but hopefully it will help all these athletes

:06:03. > :06:05.who will hopefully win us golds. So for Lucy, it's back

:06:06. > :06:08.to training for a season that A senior Jersey police officer

:06:09. > :06:15.will get an award for saving the life of a walker who had a heart

:06:16. > :06:18.attack during the 48 Detective Superintendent Stewart

:06:19. > :06:24.Gull has been awarded a Royal Humane Society certificate

:06:25. > :06:26.for carrying out life-saving treatment for twenty minutes

:06:27. > :06:28.until and ambulance arrived. Paramedics say his

:06:29. > :06:47.action saved his life. I would like to think I only did

:06:48. > :07:04.what anybody in the early hours of this was very much I was helped by

:07:05. > :07:05.an off-duty nurse, and it was very much a

:07:06. > :07:08.Now you may have heard quite a few loud bangs along Jersey's

:07:09. > :07:11.coastline this year - that's because four times more

:07:12. > :07:14.Around twenty weapons left over from the island's past

:07:15. > :07:17.are uncovered every year, but that's shot up to eighty this

:07:18. > :07:19.year because of the changing landscape and more people out

:07:20. > :07:21.looking for them as Emma Chambers explains.

:07:22. > :07:23.Armed with a metal detector and a spade -

:07:24. > :07:28.Around 80 pieces of ammunition left over from battles and wars have been

:07:29. > :07:30.found along Jersey's beaches this year alone because of dropping sand

:07:31. > :07:51.levels and the growing number of enthusiasts like Tony.

:07:52. > :08:11.When uncovered they are passed onto Jersey's bomb expert to be

:08:12. > :08:15.Because even though they may look past their best -

:08:16. > :08:23.they can certainly remind you of what their intention was.

:08:24. > :08:31.The majority of what we call stream munitions are rusty. They look

:08:32. > :08:35.harmless. They contain explosives and at the end of the day they are

:08:36. > :08:43.generally as good as the day they were made in sight, it is just the

:08:44. > :08:46.external parts that are rusted. They don't deteriorate to become safe, to

:08:47. > :08:47.deteriorate to become more dangerous.

:08:48. > :08:50.That's why if you come across one, the message is to leave well alone -

:08:51. > :08:58.and call the experts in to dispose them safely.

:08:59. > :09:05.Now let's take a look at the weather forecast with David Braine.

:09:06. > :09:10.Good evening. Nothing too dramatic in our weather for the next couple

:09:11. > :09:16.of days. Having said that, the end of the week is particularly windy.

:09:17. > :09:20.We will see some quite heavy rain at times. Tomorrow, rain or drizzle at

:09:21. > :09:25.blustery, especially in the morning. blustery, especially in the morning.

:09:26. > :09:30.But still mild with temperatures in double figures. At the moment we

:09:31. > :09:33.have air coming in off the Atlantic, and that does not seem to want to

:09:34. > :09:36.change over the next few days. Not a great deal of change to the weather

:09:37. > :09:41.pattern. This weather front giving us patchy rain through the day.

:09:42. > :09:47.Rebels along it, so its progress is erratic. It will eventually clear.

:09:48. > :09:52.Thursday looks bright and dry. But this new area of low pressure is of

:09:53. > :09:57.some concern, particularly for the northern half of Britain. For us, we

:09:58. > :10:00.will see less strong winds but still quite unsettled. Quite wet as the

:10:01. > :10:05.weather front comes through. Patchy rain overnight petering out towards

:10:06. > :10:10.morning. Overnight temperatures dipping no lower than six or 7

:10:11. > :10:14.degrees. Tomorrow is quite a cloudy day, with outbreaks of rain off and

:10:15. > :10:17.on through the day. Perhaps for a time it will become drier but not

:10:18. > :10:21.necessarily that much brighter. We will keep a lot of cloud with

:10:22. > :10:25.outbreaks of rain through the end of the afternoon and into the early

:10:26. > :10:29.evening. 11 degrees will be the maximum temperature. Some bright

:10:30. > :10:33.weather for those heading to Spain and Portugal for the next few days.

:10:34. > :10:38.Bright and calls for a large part of France. Temperatures no more than

:10:39. > :10:46.two or three degrees. Also here, mainly dry. But not for us. Bright

:10:47. > :10:50.and fine on Friday. Quite windy with rain developing. That is all from

:10:51. > :10:51.me. Have a good night. That's your news this

:10:52. > :10:53.Tuesday evening. Alison will back at

:10:54. > :11:06.6.30 tomorrow night. country it's worth knowing the

:11:07. > :11:13.national forecast. Over now to Tomasz.

:11:14. > :11:16.So, the weather's going to blow a few cobwebs away in the coming days

:11:17. > :11:20.and maybe a few other things, as well. How stormy is it going to get?

:11:21. > :11:26.For most of us probably not too terrible. It is, however, going to

:11:27. > :11:33.be very nasty across parts of Scotland on Friday. The clouds are

:11:34. > :11:38.racing across the Atlantic and we will see a storm by the time we get

:11:39. > :11:39.to around about Friday and then
