:01:11. > :01:22.But her death enabled others to live as she was an organ donor.
:01:23. > :01:25.I take great pride in what we did and what my mum did.
:01:26. > :01:28.We still receive cards and letters from the people that
:01:29. > :01:33.received my mum's organs, saying, "Thank you for another
:01:34. > :01:36.wonderful year," you know, "I've been able to see my grandchildren
:01:37. > :01:40.grow up, I've just had another grandchild just been born," and how
:01:41. > :01:49.amazing is that to have made a difference to make
:01:50. > :01:51.difference in their lives at such a sad time for us?
:01:52. > :01:53.But organ donors are a minority in Jersey.
:01:54. > :01:56.As only 12% of the islands population have registered,
:01:57. > :01:59.Jersey's sign-up rate is embarrassingly low and I think
:02:00. > :02:01.as an island we should be very embarrassed about that.
:02:02. > :02:04.Neil's daughter had a heart transplant ten years ago.
:02:05. > :02:09.He now campaigns for organ donation and thinks the low sign-up rate
:02:10. > :02:13.People aren't aware that there is only one register which is based
:02:14. > :02:17.in the UK and that Jersey people who live here have access to that
:02:18. > :02:26.register and it's to the UK we look for organs when we need them.
:02:27. > :02:29.But with eight people in Jersey and over 6,500 people in the UK
:02:30. > :02:32.currently waiting for a transplant, there is a shortage.
:02:33. > :02:34.Jersey's Health Minister is now considering adopting an opt-out
:02:35. > :02:37.system like Wales and France, but wants the public's view before
:02:38. > :02:47.Scotland are doing a consultation, Wales have done it,
:02:48. > :02:50.England are following suit, I think, with a consultation soon,
:02:51. > :02:57.So, we're on the English register, we should be in line
:02:58. > :02:59.with England as well, so I think it's a possibility,
:03:00. > :03:04.With changes being considered to try to grow the number
:03:05. > :03:07.of organ donors in Jersey, more lives could be saved in future
:03:08. > :03:18.There are plans to look into whether people with high energy
:03:19. > :03:21.bills in Jersey should get help to pay them.
:03:22. > :03:28.It's after an independent report concluded Jersey gas prices don't
:03:29. > :03:32.But the minister responsible says it is expensive and more support
:03:33. > :03:36.This drop-in centre for older people switched fully to electricity
:03:37. > :03:41.Beforehand, we had gas, oil and electric.
:03:42. > :03:46.It was quite expensive to run on gas, so when we did
:03:47. > :03:49.the refurbishment we decided to look at the providers, the costs
:03:50. > :03:54.and everything else, and we are now totally electric.
:03:55. > :03:58.Most people here told me they don't use gas at home.
:03:59. > :04:00.But those who rely on it said it's pricey.

:04:27. > :04:29.We need to make sure it's kept competitive, not necessarily
:04:30. > :04:33.Clearly, we don't have natural gas, we're importing gas which makes it
:04:34. > :04:36.But that's not to say we can't make sure the consumer's
:04:37. > :04:38.getting a fair deal, understands the prices, what they're
:04:39. > :04:46.Jersey Gas says it is cost-effective and that recent mild winters
:04:47. > :04:51.have reduced demand, driving up prices.
:04:52. > :04:52.But the politician overseeing competition believes
:04:53. > :04:58.Jersey Gas is a very expensive energy source for consumers,
:04:59. > :05:02.and over the next few weeks I now need to take this report to work out
:05:03. > :05:04.whether there are any options for government for reducing those
:05:05. > :05:17.consumers who are facing high energy costs.
:05:18. > :05:20.Meanwhile, there's a warning it's unlikely fuel prices in Guernsey
:05:21. > :05:27.At some garages, it's now more than ?1.20 for a litre of unleaded,
:05:28. > :05:29.higher than it would be at many UK garages.
:05:30. > :05:35.It's because the cost of oil has risen.
:05:36. > :05:37.The oil-producing companies of the world met and decided
:05:38. > :05:40.that they wanted to increase prices and the only way that they can do
:05:41. > :05:43.that is by dropping consumption - production, rather.
:05:44. > :05:46.Which they did, by 1.2 million barrels a day, which took effect
:05:47. > :05:49.When production is lower, prices rise and over
:05:50. > :05:57.the next few months, we'll see price rises.
:05:58. > :06:00.Outline plans have been submitted to turn a former brewery
:06:01. > :06:03.Channel Island developers Comprop want to build a 605-space
:06:04. > :06:06.multi-storey and 15 new homes on the site of the disused
:06:07. > :06:15.The ?19 million project includes keeping the listed brewery facade
:06:16. > :06:17.and replaces previous plans for a supermarket there.
:06:18. > :06:20.There are currently no plans to reconsider the decision to send
:06:21. > :06:22.Guernsey's waste to Sweden for recycling from next year,
:06:23. > :06:26.The Island's landfill site is almost full and there's been calls
:06:27. > :06:28.for Guernsey to look at options closer to home, such
:06:29. > :06:40.The authorities say despite falling exchange rates, they're
:06:41. > :06:43.still confident that the agreement to send it to Sweden provides
:06:44. > :06:46.Currently, Jersey is an unsuccessful bidder
:06:47. > :06:50.We will be looking at a contract for three years, with the option
:06:51. > :06:53.At the end of the three years, it is entirely likely
:06:54. > :07:00.that we will be re-tendering and Jersey can put in another bid.
:07:01. > :07:02.A Guernsey man will take on a challenge that few people
:07:03. > :07:07.Along with three crew members, 27-year-old James Plumley will row
