:00:20. > :00:32.Guernsey's Education Committee has survived a vote of no confidence.
:00:33. > :00:35.It follows concerns that members don't support the move away
:00:36. > :00:41.States members voted 22-13 against the motion placed
:00:42. > :00:44.by Deputy Emilie Yerby and signed by six other members.
:00:45. > :00:53.She's one of the new faces in the government.
:00:54. > :00:56.And Deputy Emilie Yerby has been leading an attempt to take down
:00:57. > :01:00.the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture.
:01:01. > :01:05.One of its members, Deputy Mark Leadbeater,
:01:06. > :01:09.And Deputy Yerby says she can't understand how
:01:10. > :01:13.I have said that this particular committee,
:01:14. > :01:22.who have not just said that selection is the right way forward,
:01:23. > :01:25.but has said in so many words that non-selection is unworkable
:01:26. > :01:27.I don't understand how they feel they can do it.
:01:28. > :01:29.But, in the States today, the remaining members
:01:30. > :01:33.Its Vice President says, despite all the pressure,
:01:34. > :01:40.We had difference of opinion in the selection debate,
:01:41. > :01:43.but in most things we have been unanimous in our decisions
:01:44. > :01:45.and we work well together, we have a balance.
:01:46. > :01:48.We can come back with a proposal that appeals to both
:01:49. > :01:54.You don't want to have five non-selectionists pioneering
:01:55. > :01:57.a cause that half the house will not support when it comes
:01:58. > :02:00.After a day's debate in the States' Chamber,
:02:01. > :02:05.So the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture survives
:02:06. > :02:14.But it's been a politically bruising start to the new year.
:02:15. > :02:16.Tomorrow on BBC Radio Guernsey's breakfast programme
:02:17. > :02:19.with Jim Cathcart, there will be reaction from the education
:02:20. > :02:27.Fishermen in Jersey claim they're being persecuted and effectively
:02:28. > :02:29.prevented from fishing in Guernsey waters.
:02:30. > :02:32.They say a fee of ?500 to renew current licences is unfair and can't
:02:33. > :02:35.be justified whereas Guernsey fishermen don't have to pay
:02:36. > :02:50.Alison Moss has been following the story.
:02:51. > :02:53.It all centres on the Guernsey waters which are between three
:02:54. > :03:06.It would be to renew a licence which allows fishing boats to work in
:03:07. > :03:11.water off Guernsey's post. The fishing industry here in Guernsey
:03:12. > :03:16.say it is unfair and they want politicians to step in. If we can
:03:17. > :03:21.believe the rhetoric that the islands are trying to work together,
:03:22. > :03:27.and I hope that is the case, then it should be a political matter to
:03:28. > :03:30.simply resolve this and have that ?500 fee removed. I think that is
:03:31. > :03:37.the way to go. When Jersey fishermen have asked for an explanation of
:03:38. > :03:42.what the ?500 actually represent, they are told that it is a political
:03:43. > :03:46.decision to charge Jersey fishermen. The main issue here is that Jersey
:03:47. > :03:52.fishermen feel it is unfair that they are expected to pay a ?500
:03:53. > :03:56.administrative charge but Guernsey fishermen don't. States of Guernsey
:03:57. > :04:00.have decided to subsidise their fishermen so they don't have to pay.
:04:01. > :04:04.The Department responsible here in Jersey say they aware of the issue

:04:20. > :04:21.Three staff on the Loveridge Ward at Princess Elizabeth Hospital
:04:22. > :04:24.are facing misconduct charges at a Nursing and Midwifery Council
:04:25. > :04:31.Today, the hearing was told senior nurse Lisa Granville investigated
:04:32. > :04:34.the baby's death and found no issues with its treatment.
:04:35. > :04:37.But later reviews revealed "inadequate" care and concerns that
:04:38. > :04:40.midwives were acting outside the scope of their practice.

:05:21. > :05:24.Jersey recently sold their assets after running
:05:25. > :05:28.But now fundraising plans are underway, and last night more
:05:29. > :05:32.than 100 club members met to find out about them.
:05:33. > :05:39.After successive years of financial losses,
:05:40. > :05:41.the Reds took the bold step of selling the clubhouse
:05:42. > :05:45.A short-term help - for the time being
:05:46. > :05:47.they're renting them, but now begins the work
:05:48. > :05:53.While the club hopes to bring in half of the money needed
:05:54. > :05:56.by selling a plot of land, the rest will need to be raised
:05:57. > :05:58.by supporters or sponsorship, including a big fundraising ball.
:05:59. > :06:01.We went through some dark days at the latter end of last year,
:06:02. > :06:04.but two really good things have come out of that, one is the fact
:06:05. > :06:07.we are back in control of our own destiny, and secondly
:06:08. > :06:10.the number of tremendously qualified individuals that have stepped
:06:11. > :06:13.forward and offered their help, both in financial terms,
:06:14. > :06:16.but more importantly, giving their time to drive efforts
:06:17. > :06:24.The club has also been considering its structure.
:06:25. > :06:26.They want to stay fully professional and continue playing
:06:27. > :06:31.To do that in a less risky way could mean more loan
:06:32. > :06:36.We have got to do it in a way that we can afford.
:06:37. > :06:39.We will be working with some premiership clubs to see how we can
:06:40. > :06:42.develop relationships with them to take loan players from them
:06:43. > :06:44.for an extended period of time, to supplement a core
:06:45. > :06:48.of professionals that we would put directly onto our books.
:06:49. > :06:51.A new stand at St Peter could also be on the cards -
:06:52. > :06:54.better facilities should attract bigger crowds, and therefore
:06:55. > :07:06.more cash to help get the Reds their home back.
:07:07. > :07:08.From plans to abolish public executions, to a man
:07:09. > :07:11.found guilty of bigamy - more than 150 records have been made
:07:12. > :07:14.available for the first time by Jersey Heritage.
:07:15. > :07:17.They've been closed to public access for up to 100 years but they're now

:07:36. > :07:39.Nine people died that day in Jersey, but now,
:07:40. > :07:43.thanks to the island's archivists, their stories live on.
:07:44. > :07:46.Here we have a list of the people who died in the air raids that took

:07:50. > :07:53.More than 150 records have been opened to the public
:07:54. > :07:58.They include notes from those inquests.
:07:59. > :08:01.These give the details of the planes coming over.
:08:02. > :08:03.We can see members of the family having to go
:08:04. > :08:09.We know those who died at the scene and those
:08:10. > :08:16.It just adds a bit more information to what we already know.
:08:17. > :08:19.Some of the records have not been seen for over 100 years.
:08:20. > :08:21.This is a petition by Frederick John Smith.
:08:22. > :08:26.He was sentenced to a year in prison for bigamy,
:08:27. > :08:29.but here he asked if he can join the Army instead.
:08:30. > :08:32.The request was granted and he was sent to the front.
:08:33. > :08:39.They are just a fascinating history of Jersey socially, politically,
:08:40. > :08:42.but also they tell the stories of the people who lived here,
:08:43. > :08:45.and I think that is what we like to try and do at the archive.
:08:46. > :08:47.We want to bring history to life for people.
:08:48. > :08:50.The records are now open for the public to view,
:08:51. > :08:52.ensuring that Jersey's history is preserved for all
:08:53. > :09:09.Hello, good evening. We have got a change in our weather over the
:09:10. > :09:13.coming days, but today has been a decent day across the islands with
:09:14. > :09:19.some sunshine and it has been a dry day. Tomorrow is a very different
:09:20. > :09:23.story. Wet and windy, very gusty up to 50 mph for some of us and it will
:09:24. > :09:26.feel bitterly cold. Quiet at the moment with a north-westerly
:09:27. > :09:31.airflow, a few showers lingering. Some respite for we see the rain
:09:32. > :09:35.pushing in. The bulk of the rain comes through tomorrow afternoon,
:09:36. > :09:38.most will be rain, but once it clear that it will be colder air so we
:09:39. > :09:46.could see some wintry showers following behind. The wind will be
:09:47. > :09:49.strong, perhaps even 60 mph. By Friday a northerly airflow, so much
:09:50. > :09:55.colder air and anything that falls out of the sky on Friday is likely
:09:56. > :09:58.to be wintry. Most of the showers dying away, but we will see is a
:09:59. > :10:04.more persistent rain pushing in towards dawn. The wins will ease,
:10:05. > :10:08.with Tebbit is down to 4 degrees. The rain on and off through the
:10:09. > :10:12.morning, by lunchtime the bulk of the rainbow push in and the wind
:10:13. > :10:17.will pick up giving us a wet end to the day. Torrential downpours,
:10:18. > :10:24.strong, gusty winds, so it is going to feel cold tomorrow. Much colder
:10:25. > :10:30.than both haemorrhages suggest. Dash-macro those temperatures.
:10:31. > :10:34.Tomorrow will be mostly rain. Once that weather system plays through
:10:35. > :10:40.the afternoon, that colder air digs in. Through Thursday night and into
:10:41. > :10:44.Friday, we have the risk of ice and wintry showers, there could be hail
:10:45. > :10:48.and sleet. Strong and gusty winds on Friday. It turns milder as we head
:10:49. > :10:52.That's your news this Wednesday evening.
:10:53. > :10:54.On Good Morning Jersey tomorrow, following recent revelations,
:10:55. > :10:56.reaction to a new report into Jersey's controversial
:10:57. > :11:01.start to the weekend. Time for the national weather prospects if you
:11:02. > :11:10.are on the move. Good evening, a lot going on with
:11:11. > :11:13.the weather in the next few days, numerous weather warnings in for so
:11:14. > :11:17.buried in mind if you have travel plans. Lots of isobars on the chart
:11:18. > :11:19.overnight which means it will be windy for all. The strongest winds
:11:20. > :11:23.in Scotland, lots of wintry showers with snow getting down to
:11:24. > :11:27.increasingly low levels and some wintry showers in Northern Ireland
:11:28. > :11:30.and northern England. A cold night for Northern England, particularly
:11:31. > :11:35.in more rural spots, frosty and I see for some and some of the snow
:11:36. > :11:38.really blowing around over higher ground in Scotland. Strong wind and
:11:39. > :11:41.further snow to take us into tomorrow. It may well make for some
:11:42. > :11:44.tricky travelling conditions. The forecast for tomorrow in the
:11:45. > :11:47.southern half of the UK's quite tricky. We have got mild air bumping
:11:48. > :11:48.into colder
