:00:09. > :00:14.Three Guernsey midwives charged with misconduct by the Nursing

:00:15. > :00:17.and Widwifery Council will have to wait until the autumn

:00:18. > :00:20.Concerns were raised over the working practices

:00:21. > :00:24.of these midwives at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital

:00:25. > :00:30.Earlier today, I asked our reporter Mike Wilkins when the next meeting

:00:31. > :00:38.We were led to believe that we would have a result

:00:39. > :00:40.by the end of February, but following four weeks

:00:41. > :00:43.of evidence, the cases of Lisa Granville, Tuija Roussel

:00:44. > :00:45.and Antonia Manousaki have been adjourned for five months.

:00:46. > :00:49.And the hearing's due to resume on 17th July when the defence

:00:50. > :00:52.will have two weeks to put forward its case.

:00:53. > :00:54.And remind us of some of the key revelations

:00:55. > :01:02.Well, the nursing watchdog, the NMC, claims that the death of the baby

:01:03. > :01:06.on Loveridge Ward in 2014 could have been prevented if another fatality

:01:07. > :01:10.two years earlier had been investigated properly.

:01:11. > :01:13.The panel have heard that the midwives would administer

:01:14. > :01:15.drugs without speaking to a consultant and make

:01:16. > :01:18.decisions they wouldn't take anywhere else in Britain.

:01:19. > :01:23.And I'm hearing some of the midwives are trying

:01:24. > :01:29.That's right, Lisa Granville and Tuija Roussel have applied

:01:30. > :01:35.Though the panel has made its decision, it's

:01:36. > :01:39.delayed announcing it in case it's misinterpreted.

:01:40. > :01:43.Until the hearing resumes in July, the two midwives and a third,

:01:44. > :01:47.Antonia Manousaki, can continue to work without restriction.

:01:48. > :01:51.They admit some charges and deny others.

:01:52. > :01:56.A further two weeks has also been set aside in September.

:01:57. > :01:59.So, for all involved, particularly the bereaved parents,

:02:00. > :02:03.the wait to find out the truth goes on.

:02:04. > :02:07.High end office developments, improvements to retail space,

:02:08. > :02:10.more support to the tourism industry and even world heritage recognition.

:02:11. > :02:14.They are just some of the recommendations being put

:02:15. > :02:17.forward in three major strategies published today, that

:02:18. > :02:20.will form the basis of the Alderney Land Use Plan.

:02:21. > :02:27.More support is needed for small retailers,

:02:28. > :02:30.or new uses need to be found for empty retail spaces.

:02:31. > :02:34.These are just two of the recommendations

:02:35. > :02:41.It has also advised new, high-end office accommodation

:02:42. > :02:44.to boost the island's economy and more support to the dwindling

:02:45. > :02:47.tourism industry which has seen bed spaces drop by a third over

:02:48. > :02:52.In total there are over 200 recommendations made in the three

:02:53. > :02:56.strategies published today to shape the final part of the

:02:57. > :03:03.It is the first time a comprehensive plan has been produced,

:03:04. > :03:08.covering all areas, exconomic needs for housing, its heritage

:03:09. > :03:17.It documents all the work needed and it has taken some time to do,

:03:18. > :03:19.and the report bears witness to that and local people have

:03:20. > :03:29.The authors of the Land Use Plan, Arup, have also suggested that

:03:30. > :03:33.Alderney has the necessary credentials to apply for UNESCO

:03:34. > :03:37.World Heritage status, which has been welcomed

:03:38. > :03:43.It's a very good idea but I'm not sure it would succeed.

:03:44. > :03:50.A few years ago we discussed it becoming a UNESCO site.

:03:51. > :03:57.After a lot of work the conclusion was the only thing considered

:03:58. > :04:05.by most external people was what could make

:04:06. > :04:13.But will the economic, environment and heritage

:04:14. > :04:19.It's open for public feedback for the next month before the states

:04:20. > :04:29.Jersey farmers are trialling new fertilising methods

:04:30. > :04:35.It's after high levels of nitrates, which exceeded the legal limit,

:04:36. > :04:38.were found in the island's water supply.

:04:39. > :04:40.Rather than spraying the whole field with chemicals,

:04:41. > :04:43.measured fertiliser pellets are planted with the crops.

:04:44. > :04:47.It's hoped this will reduce the amount of nitrates that leak

:04:48. > :04:52.The corners of the field and the internal headlands make up

:04:53. > :04:55.about 10% of the field so that's an automatic 10%

:04:56. > :04:57.reduction straightaway where the crops aren't taking it up

:04:58. > :05:01.so that should help in the leaching of the nitrates into the water.

:05:02. > :05:05.But also in row because we're putting it very near to the potato,

:05:06. > :05:08.we're reducing by about 8% in the row as well.

:05:09. > :05:11.So we're looking at between a 15 and 20% reduction.

:05:12. > :05:15.Local football now, and there's renewed hope that the women's

:05:16. > :05:21.Guernsey originally pulled out of the game against rivals Jersey

:05:22. > :05:23.because they couldn't convince enough players to register

:05:24. > :05:26.directly with the island's Football Association.

:05:27. > :05:29.Now though, the Guernsey FA will revisit that decision

:05:30. > :05:33.to cancel the fixture, saying they've found

:05:34. > :05:37.Jersey boss Simon Petulla has told the BBC he can't see any reason not

:05:38. > :05:42.After a couple of days of fog and of course

:05:43. > :05:45.delays for air passengers, let s see what the weekend looks
