:00:36. > :00:39.with Brexit to follow Jersey and not Guernsey's example when it comes

:00:40. > :00:44.He says Guernsey's population policy is killing the economy.

:00:45. > :00:47.But what do people in Guernsey think?

:00:48. > :00:50.Yes, I think we do need some, because the hotels, our locals don't

:00:51. > :00:58.If it's for work and somebody wants to come over

:00:59. > :01:04.and fill a space in, you know, tourism or...

:01:05. > :01:08.And we haven't got anybody to fill it, then, yes, fine.

:01:09. > :01:12.Look at the problem with the teachers.

:01:13. > :01:19.If teachers are here for five years and then everybody says

:01:58. > :01:58.in April in Guernsey, which the States insists will meet

:01:59. > :02:02.But according to the Chamber of Commerce, it's not that simple.

:02:03. > :02:04.The new population law is so complex.

:02:05. > :02:07.It's very difficult to get the balance of what you can do and

:02:08. > :02:10.The restrictions on the local market now are

:02:11. > :02:12.tremendous compared with the open market.

:02:13. > :02:16.Whatever happens, we must have a population here that can

:02:17. > :02:20.With an ageing population and with fewer people to pay for it,

:02:31. > :02:33.Deputy Neil Inder is working with the Economic Development Committee

:02:34. > :02:37.and the Fishermen's Association to make the popular

:02:38. > :02:44.The easy solution is to change the regulation of it,

:02:45. > :02:50.Those that sit in those bays can only sit in the hours

:02:51. > :02:54.of darkness, which as I understand it, is when most fish are caught and

:02:55. > :02:58.that leaves the daytime use of the shoreline

:02:59. > :03:03.safely for the surfers, body boarders, kayakers,

:03:04. > :03:13.Next tonight, they can't continue their work in Jersey,

:03:14. > :03:20.As far as the fish man is concerned, he doesn't want to lose any fishing

:03:21. > :03:26.rod. With netting, you catch more fish at night so the solution we are

:03:27. > :03:30.putting forward is to say, no surfing, even at night, and nothing

:03:31. > :03:33.during the day. Some rugby news now,

:03:34. > :03:35.and in the past hour, Jersey Reds pulled off one

:03:36. > :03:40.of the greatest wins They achieved a narrow

:03:41. > :03:42.24-19 triumph over The win boosts Jersey's chances

:03:43. > :03:46.of making the championship playoffs, as they're now just one place

:03:47. > :03:50.and one point outside the top four. Next tonight, they can't

:03:51. > :03:52.continue their work in Jersey, That's the story of two

:03:53. > :03:55.Salvation Army Captains who say their large social security

:03:56. > :03:58.contributions are forcing them It's taken four years for Mel

:03:59. > :04:05.and Steve to get this cafe and bakery in St Helier

:04:06. > :04:08.up and running. It's provided nine new jobs

:04:09. > :04:11.and is a sanctuary for local But the couple are now

:04:12. > :04:16.leaving their legacy behind, In part, because it's simply too

:04:17. > :04:22.expensive for them to stay. The Salvation Army have done

:04:23. > :04:25.everything that they can to try and help us with some of those extra

:04:26. > :04:28.costs of being here, but there is an ongoing effect

:04:29. > :04:31.and it does mean that every now and again, you have to dip even

:04:32. > :04:34.deeper into the small Of course, when that

:04:35. > :04:40.goes on and on and on, Despite receiving a small wage

:04:41. > :04:46.from the Salvation Army, Steve and Mel are classed

:04:47. > :04:48.as self-employed. It means they have to spend 12%

:04:49. > :04:52.of their income on social security payments and don't share those

:04:53. > :04:56.contributions with their employer. On top of that - Steve has a pension

:04:57. > :05:00.from the police, which in Jersey, is also included as part

:05:01. > :05:02.of his income. The Social Security Minister says

:05:03. > :05:05.she's tried to help, That is the law, so I'm afraid

:05:06. > :05:15.that is what people have She has, however, launched a review

:05:16. > :05:22.of social security payments - the results will be

:05:23. > :05:25.published next month. But Mel and Steve feel the time

:05:26. > :05:28.is right to leave island-life behind It will be hard for us

:05:29. > :05:34.to say goodbye because we have taken It's such a beautiful place to work

:05:35. > :05:40.and live, to go swimming It is one of the things I really

:05:41. > :05:46.love at the end of a busy day is to go down to the beach and just

:05:47. > :05:49.go for a swim for an hour. The couple's replacements

:05:50. > :05:51.will arrive in the summer. Jessica Banham, BBC

:05:52. > :06:11.Channel Island News, Jersey. Good even Inc. At the weekend is

:06:12. > :06:17.typical for the time of year. It is the cloudy, breezy times and there

:06:18. > :06:20.will be patchy rain around. High pressure has given us the fine

:06:21. > :06:23.weather today but it is moving out of the way and these were the funds

:06:50. > :06:56.increasing cloud, eventually some patchy rain. The winds freshening

:06:57. > :07:03.from the South West, top temperature of around 10 degrees. The forecast

:07:04. > :07:07.for Sunday is for us to seek light and dry weather, it may be that we

:07:08. > :07:12.have some morning sunshine but on the whole it is cloudy, not quite so

:07:13. > :07:19.breezy bubble winds pick up on the second half of the day. Turning

:07:20. > :07:22.colder and a mixture of sunshine and showers on Monday and Tuesday. In a

:07:23. > :07:25.second, forecast from the United Kingdom but from all of us here,
