:00:45. > :00:47.Food, fuel and household bills have all driven up the cost
:00:48. > :01:00.Inflation is nearly 3%, the highest for almost five years.
:01:01. > :01:01.Although it's always influenced by global prices,
:01:02. > :01:03.it's thought Brexit could be the driving factor as
:01:04. > :01:06.Living in Jersey has got more expensive.
:01:07. > :01:08.But are people on the street feeling the pinch?
:01:09. > :01:10.I think things are getting more expensive.
:01:11. > :01:25.I think a lot of people are turning to the Internet for food. I'm a
:01:26. > :01:28.student, when I come back here, I notice how expensive bidders.
:01:29. > :01:39.Do you think people's wages reflect that? Not at all.
:01:40. > :01:42.My bill at the Co-op seems to have gone up from 40
:01:43. > :01:45.Overall inflation is 2.9%, the highest rate since 2012.
:01:46. > :01:56.The driving factors behind the increase are:
:01:57. > :01:59.A hike in domestic oil made fuel costs rise by 10%.
:02:00. > :02:01.Retailers and businesses are blaming it on Brexit.
:02:02. > :02:03.Unfortunately what we are seeing is those cost prices being increased
:02:04. > :02:06.because of the impact of the devaluation of the sterling.
:02:07. > :02:08.We import a lot of goods, not only into the island
:02:09. > :02:11.but into the UK and a lot of people are trading currencies
:02:12. > :02:13.whether they are purchasing those from overseas.
:02:14. > :02:16.That's making it more difficult, suppliers are passing on those cost
:02:17. > :02:26.Which end up more often than not passed on to the customer.
:02:27. > :02:28.Citizens Advice say islanders may need to shop around more.
:02:29. > :02:30.You can shop and be competitive and find
:02:31. > :02:34.That's something you can control is exactly how much you spend,
:02:35. > :02:37.but of course inflation is very rarely driven by one factor there's
:02:38. > :02:42.normally a number of factors and it seems to be a couple of external
:02:43. > :02:44.factors that are driving inflation up that really
:02:45. > :02:51.No-one was available from the Treasury Department
:02:52. > :03:11.to comment on camera, but in a statement they said:
:03:12. > :03:14.But until then, people in Jersey may have to navigate through more
:03:15. > :03:18.cost increases predicted in the near future.
:03:19. > :03:21.New buses are set to roll out on Guernsey's roads next month.
:03:22. > :03:25.They're shorter and narrower than the existing fleet.
:03:26. > :03:29.And it's claimed the 12 vehicles will be more environmentally
:03:30. > :03:32.friendly, even though they'll still be pumping out diesel fumes.
:03:33. > :03:39.When it comes to Guernsey's buses, size matters.
:03:40. > :03:42.And the island's newest arrivals will be 7cm narrower and over
:03:43. > :03:48.Here's one of them, a new look for a new fleet.
:03:49. > :03:50.These smaller buses are promising to improve the passenger experience
:03:51. > :03:53.with high-backed seats, USB chargers and increased headroom
:03:54. > :04:01.They'll be running on diesel at a time when many see the end
:04:02. > :04:05.Milton Keynes has been using electric buses
:04:06. > :04:10.And the Mayor of London has pledged to stop buying pure diesel
:04:11. > :04:14.In fact the company providing Guernsey's new buses is testing
:04:15. > :04:17.a double decker hydrogen powered bus in London.
:04:18. > :04:22.The 12 buses cost more than ?1.5 million pounds.
:04:23. > :04:24.They're the first part of a phased replacement
:04:25. > :04:29.And the man responsible for Guernsey's buses says
:04:30. > :04:35.zero emission buses may be purchased in the next phase.
:04:36. > :04:38.What we want to do the next time is find an electric vehicle and
:04:39. > :04:42.technology has moved on from 2013, we know that battery life has
:04:43. > :04:45.increased so it is a real possibility even at stage to stage
:04:46. > :04:48.So what do bus users make of the new vehicles?
:04:49. > :04:52.Well they're very happy about the prospect.
:04:53. > :04:55.If you're a cyclist behind current diesels it's a pretty unpleasant
:04:56. > :04:58.There should be a marked improvement.
:04:59. > :05:01.If everything goes according to plan then the new buses will be
:05:02. > :05:07.A 39-year-old man has been jailed for six years

:06:19. > :06:21.took the opportunity to renovate the roof,
:06:22. > :06:26.For the past six months, St Anne's Church has been
:06:27. > :06:29.shrouded in scaffolding but the extensive renovations
:06:30. > :06:36.It's taken around 10,000 slates, and nearly ?1 million
:06:37. > :06:38.to restore the historic building that is owned by the
:06:39. > :06:43.While this is the most expensive renovation,
:06:44. > :06:46.it is certainly not the most extensive.
:06:47. > :06:48.Following the German Occupation, islanders returned to find
:06:49. > :06:57.St Anne's Church in a sorry state of repair.
:06:58. > :07:04.My grandfather and my father, who run the building business at the
:07:05. > :07:08.time, actually offered the Labour free where the states actually
:07:09. > :07:12.funded the repairs and the materials. But there was a great
:07:13. > :07:15.deal to do after the war to put it back. And my father, it
:07:16. > :07:18.driving ambition to see the church driving ambition to see the church
:07:19. > :07:21.restored as it was when it was built. And he did that up until his
:07:22. > :07:34.dying day. The community, events, births,
:07:35. > :07:40.marriages and deaths but concepts and I think everybody at some point
:07:41. > :07:46.will be utilising the church for their enjoyment or family reasons.
