:02:17. > :02:19.Fishermen in the south west are being praised for the work

:02:20. > :02:22.they're doing to help clean up our seas.

:02:23. > :02:25.Marine litter and discarded fishing gear has been blamed for killing

:02:26. > :02:30.But now the fishermen are working with charities and other industries

:02:31. > :02:34.to tackle the problem as Eleanor Parkinson reports.

:02:35. > :02:37.These fishermen are not just hauling up fish.

:02:38. > :02:43.They have to sift through their catch to get rid of the rubbish

:02:44. > :02:45.but they're not throwing it back overboard.

:02:46. > :02:48.Instead, they put it in special sacks they've been given

:02:49. > :02:52.and they bring it all back to port to put in a dedicated skip.

:02:53. > :02:55.We bring in about two one-tonne bags every trip.

:02:56. > :02:58.I do a six-day trip and I bring in two one-tonne bags a week.

:02:59. > :03:01.And these are the bags that we give the fishing boats.

:03:02. > :03:04.And if you look through the skip, you can find just about anything.

:03:05. > :03:07.Somebody obviously not needing a kettle.

:03:08. > :03:10.The bags on the boats are provided by a project

:03:11. > :03:15.It's dangerous to be left in the sea, it's not good

:03:16. > :03:17.for the marine environment and they are more than

:03:18. > :03:22.The fishermen are also working hard to prevent ghost gear -

:03:23. > :03:25.broken nets and ropes getting left at sea.

:03:26. > :03:30.They see a bit of ghost gear floating in a water

:03:31. > :03:36.So they swim over it, round it, under it, through it.

:03:37. > :03:39.And it's the through it that gets them into trouble.

:03:40. > :03:41.These nylon nets won't be thrown away.

:03:42. > :03:44.They'll be recycled. They'll be sent to a factory

:03:45. > :03:47.in Eastern Europe, where they'll be turned into nylon carpets.

:03:48. > :03:50.And a Cornish company are using the recycled nylon

:03:51. > :03:56.We make the range of swimwear and rash guards that

:03:57. > :04:00.are particularly aimed at active watersport use, either wearing them

:04:01. > :04:03.under wet suits or jumping around, moving in the water.

:04:04. > :04:07.In the south-west, attitudes to marine litter are changing

:04:08. > :04:10.but the threat still exists from other shores.

:04:11. > :04:14.Ghost gear is often brought up into our seas on the Gulf Stream.

:04:15. > :04:17.For the fishermen and the volunteers, their work continues.

:04:18. > :04:21.Double Olympic gold medal winner Helen Glover from Penzance

:04:22. > :04:25.and her TV presenter husband Steve Backshall have

:04:26. > :04:27.raised more than ?60,000 after completing the Devizes

:04:28. > :04:33.It took the pair 22 hours and 58 minutes to finish the challenge.

:04:34. > :04:36.They're aiming to raise ?100,000 to help save an area

:04:37. > :04:42.The Miniature Pony Centre on Dartmoor has welcomed its first

:04:43. > :04:48.This little filly was born in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

:04:49. > :04:51.The new arrival doesn't have a name yet but the centre is holding

:04:52. > :04:53.a competition to find one, and the theme is British

:05:24. > :05:26.is going to be a beautiful day. Dry and bright, a lot of sunshine.

:05:27. > :05:29.I think more sunshine than we've seen over the last couple of days.

:05:34. > :05:36.during the afternoon and I think temperatures will reflect

:05:37. > :05:39.the sunshine - doing well with highs of 14 or 15 degrees.

:05:40. > :05:42.It looks like it is staying largely dry for the rest of this week.

:05:43. > :05:44.I think by day, we'll see plenty of sunshine

:05:45. > :05:48.and light winds but by night, it will be cold and we'll see
